Why Was The 13th Amendment Important
The thirteenth amendment was the first amendment implemented into the United States Constitution
to ending slavery. The thirteenth amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude,
except as a punishment for a crime of which the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist
within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Library of Congress). Slavery
started in the year 1619 in the Northern American colonies and continued to grow until the nation
became divided between those who supported slavery and the others who did not support slavery
(History.com Staff, 2009). Slaves were beaten, worked to extreme exhaustion, and never given proper
care. Many of these slaves worked the tobacco farms and helped build the economic foundations of
the new nation. While this amendment alone was not enough to completely stop slavery, it was a
commencement to change the future. For every change, there must be a start, and the thirteenth
amendment offered a start to those who endured cruel unequal treatment. This amendment would
establish freedom and would allow Congress the power to define freedom. The thirteenth amendment
was extremely controversial. Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Benjamin Rush were some of the first to form
an abolition group against slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To me, this is more than just freeing slaves this was about making sure every human being regardless
of race had equal rights and equal opportunities. While further rights did not happen immediately after
this amendment was ratified it is was the foundation for creating those equal rights for all races.
Moments in history such as this thirteenth amendment is what defines our futures. The constitution of
the United States is what protects our country and our

United Law And International Law Essay
Jurisdiction is arguably the most versatile term in current international law. Frequently used in
international legal instruments and yet never defined, the term can have different meanings in different
contexts. Depending on the circumstances, jurisdiction may refer to the totality of the power or
authority that a state has or exercises, in which case it is fully identifiable with sovereignty, another
often used but likewise never clearly defined term in international law. Jurisdiction is an aspect of
state sovereignty. International law scholars have increasingly taken the view that the term sovereignty
means all and only those attributes which are given to a state under international law descriptive of the
scope of state freedom as a legal rather than factual matter sovereignty. In this conception does not
define, but is defined by the legal powers of a state within an international society of states. It does not
exist prior to law, but as a set of attributes of the legal construct that is the state, existing as a
consequence of law. As one scholar expressed it, sovereignty is nothing more or less than the legal
competence which states have in general. The power of a sovereign to affect the right of persons,
whether by legislation, executive decree, or by a judgement of a court is called jurisdiction. The power
of soveiregn, therefore to affect legal rights depends upon law; and upon the law must be based all
sovereign jurisdiction. Through the concept of

Alfred Hitchcock Identity And Identity
The greatest art in films is by the means of the ability to create an emotion in the viewers of the film
and by the means of and imagery. Alfred Hitchcock, for long time, has been a household name since
he began filmmaking. Hitchcock has been able to accumulate a well known and distinct cinematic
techniques making him stand out as one of the best filmmakers around the globe. What makes
Hitchcock s films must watch movies are how he draws his viewers emotion and leave them in
suspense (Maher 246). Hitchcock s The Birds is an American horror film dropped in 1963. The film is
loosely based on the 1952 story of Daphne Du Maurier and focuses on a sudden series, unexplained
powerful and violent birds attacking the people of Bodega Bay (Maher 247). In this movie, the fact
that viewers do not get to know the details of the birds makes it an interesting but a suspense film,
which evokes thoughts of the audience to know much about the birds. On the other hand, Identity,
which was directed by James Mangold in 2003, revolves around the life of ten people who seeks
refuge in an isolated motel when a vicious storm breaks out in the desert of Nevada (Falsafi,
Khorashad, and Khorashad 2521). As they seek refuge, a serious murderer, Taylor Vince awaits his
execution for killing a group of motel guests. This paper, using terminology resources and cinematic
techniques, seeks to expatriate the similar technique styles adopted in the two films to enhance
suspense. The cinematic techniques

Fatima Social Problem
Fatima has suffered from many social problems that affecting many members of the rural community.
Poverty, for example, has caused several problems of the family and they still suffer from them. Rural
poverty is very severe than other societies and is widespread in remote areas (Duncan Tickamyer,
1988). Since a father of Fatimah s family is drug addict, he is unemployed. He has spent most of his
time with his drug abusers. Therefore, the family gets financial income from the handicrafts performed
by the mother. However, this is not enough to provide a decent life and cover the basic needs of the

Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
Have you ever taken a step back and looked
How Coco Chanel Revolutionised Fashion
By Sienna Hollis at how fashion has revolutionised over the years? Well, this article is taking a step
back in time all the way to the early 1900 s to look at the way that Coco Chanel changed fashion.
Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how
women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays
society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971.
One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update for
the modern women, known for both its striking silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the
dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being
the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was
simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly
asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer responded, For
you, dear Monsieur. Touché!
One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were
only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who took worked in manual roles began to
wear trousers in the workplace. Coco Chanel loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her
boyfriend s suits,

The Process Of Making And Changing Laws Varies Throughout...
Mid Term #2 Prompt 1
The process of making and changing laws varies throughout regions, cultures and religions. This trend
applies to all religions, no matter how similar they may appear. Take for example, Catholicism and
Judaism; religions that share common traits in beliefs, customs and law. These similarities may lead
people to believe their legal process of legal change is also cognate, but that is not the case. Although
their process of legal change may appear as similar, the key differences are highlighted through the
legislators and the necessity of deriving law from an authoritative text. The factors that affect these
differences relate to the structure of the organization, the governing body, and the purpose behind the
creation of religious law in each system. Judaism s and Catholicism s legal process are alike in many
different ways. For example, although rabbinic responsa and papal decretals seem completely different
in definition, they share common characteristics. Responsa is defined as the answers to questions
submitted by someone having communal authority to someone having greater communal authority (
Law and religion in Judaism , 46) The community asks questions regarding law, and the rabbis, an
authoritative source, reply with a binding answer. On the other hand, papal decretals are laws and rules
issued by the pope. The denotation of these processes sound completely different, but their similarity
lies in the nature of papal decretals. The majority of

Walls In The Cask Of Amontillado
In the mid nineteenth century Romantic trend in American Literature, authors often used the idea of
walls that human beings place between themselves and others both physically and symbolically.
Unlike a fence of gate, which imply a way in or out, a wall is a sound structure. A wall is a barrier to
block someone else out, or is it used to block yourself in? First, walls of both kinds are seen in the
poetry and fiction of Edgar Allan Poe. In, The Cask of Amontillado, a physical wall is being built
around a chained, Fortunato, forever forcing him to remain among the catacomb. Montresor has built
this wall around his friend to seek revenge and be free of Fortunato. While physically free, he will
become trapped by a symbolic wall of guilt as he is laying the last of the stone. The Raven, also by
Poe, shows of a wall between the narrator and the refrained term, nevermore. The narrator does not
wish to see the association with his wife, Lenore and death. The angels know her name, therefore she
must have recently passed and he is unable to get over the emotional wall of never seeing his loved
one again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Father Hooper, a character in The Ministers Black Veil, has put a wall up between himself and his
parishioners with the simple adornment of a veil. The veil is symbolic of secret and sin the Father is
trying to hide from the world. A secret so massive, it is not even to be removed by his Fiancee ,
Elizabeth. While he, himself will not let his secrets be known until his earthly departure, it can be
presumed that they carry the weight of infidelity. On his deathbed, Father Hooper described seeing a
black veil on everyone he has met, perceiving that everyone has their own walls and

Comparing The Bet And The Cathedral
It is impossible to really understand why people react as they do to difficult situations .
Discuss the ways in which two of the stories reveal this.
In The Bet by Anton Chekov and The Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the authors use irony to show
that It is impossible to really understand why people react as they do to difficult situations , because
they do not even know themselves. In, The Bet, two men, both impulsive and proud, enter into a
foolish bet to prove whether capitol punishment or life imprisonment is more humane. In the
conclusion, irony takes over, the characters last acts free one another. Instead of killing the lawyer, the
banker plants a kiss on his head. Then the prisoner escapes, freeing the banker from having to pay his
debt. Checkov uses irony to reveal that neither man is aware of his true nature. In The Cathedral two
blind agnostics, seek to communicate, while drawing a cathedral. Carver uses irony to show that the
narrator is incapable of understanding another person until he learns ... Show more content on

He maintains that the death penalty is more moral , later revealing complete moral bankruptcy when
he plans murder to avoid honouring the bet. While the banker is emotionally affected by the letter,
when he feels so great a contempt for himself that he weeps, Chekov is ambiguous about the nature of
his remorse. Is his contempt for his murderous heart or for the rashness which almost led to financial
ruin? Is he weeping tears of shame or relief? The dramatic irony of he took from the table the writing
in which the millions were renounced, and when he got home locked it up in the fireproof safe
suggests that his moment of self awareness has not been life changing. He still doesn t know

Essay On Irish Dancing On Gait And Flexibility
Research Proposal.
Title:
An examination into the effects that Irish dancing has on gait and ankle flexibility.
Introduction
The topic that will be discussed in this proposal is the effects of dancing on gait and ankle flexibility
in dancers. The population being researched is dancers and will make comparisons between dancers
and non dancers. The purpose of this research is for examining the effects dancing has on ankle
flexibility and gait patterns in dancers and determining whether or not there is a difference between
the gait patterns of dancers in comparison to non dancers. Dancing requires extreme ankle postures
and unique balance. Intensive and long term practice of extreme ankle postures can cause changes in
gait patterns in dancers during normal walking (Lung, Chern, Hsieh, Yang, 2008).
Literature Review:
The aim of the research carried out by Lung, Chern, Hsieh, and Yang (2008), was to investigate the
differences in gait patterns between dancers and non dancers. This study hypothesized that gait
patterns in dancers will be significantly different to non dancers. Thirty three subjects were recruited
for the purposes of the study. Thirteen of the subjects were dancers and twenty of the ... Show more

These injuries that occur as a result of dancing have a clear knock on effect on the gait and foot and
ankle kinetics of a dancer as shown in the research articles outlined in the literature review. There are
numerous studies surrounding the injuries caused by dancing and the effect these injuries have on gait,
however the majority of these studies focus on Ballet or modern dance and do not focus on Irish
dancing. There appears to be a gap in research surrounding Irish dancing and its effects on normal gait
and ankle flexibility. The purpose of carrying out this research is to acknowledge this gap in previous

Basic Laws Of Obeying Manslaughter
The average time of imprisonment for committing manslaughter is 13 years; Murder is a crime and we
strongly enforce this today. God states You shall not murder. God says this to set a minimum standard
for humanity and the people of Israel. This is a basic law to keep one Holy and to abstain from sin. To
disobey this is a crime against man, and a crime against God. Obedience to this law only brings
goodness, as following the law ensures safety and tranquillity. God places this law to keep his

Plain and pleasure are a result of modern technology . Usage of cell phones as a boon or a bane ; the
answer lies in our hands! Why mobile phone is a Bane? The other day, my daddy was telling me his
childhood stories. He shared his evergreen memories of having a great time with his relatives. In the
olden days, people used to visit friends and relatives often. But look at about our generation. How
often we get to see our relatives? We just make a phone call to talk to them instead of visiting. We call
our grandparents through phones to check if they are doing okay. We wish them Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year by sending a text message. We are living in a fast moving world where social life is
centered around the mobile phones. Mobile phones are the No:1 culprit in damaging our social life
and family life. People have started Texting instead of talking and visiting. What more, I have seen
people talking through phone to the family members in the next room instead of just getting up from
the chair and walking over there. Leave aside the social life. Think about the health problems because
of excessive use of mobile phones. It is a scientific fact that cell phones emit radio frequency energy, a
form of radiation, which can be absorbed by tissues in your body. The nervous system of children is
still developing and is more vulnerable to factors that may cause cancer. Considering the fact that over

Ku Klan And Ku Klux Klan
Ku Klux Klan 2
Abstract
The Ku Klux Klan was formed in Tennessee during December, 1865. They were originally made by
former confederate soldiers to keep balance in society. After their job was done they went years
without being heard of again. This time they grew in popularity and used their power to intimidate
others to get their way. They killed and harassed many people.
After years of destruction beginning from the late 1800 s all the way through mid 1900 s, they lost
their power. There are still many small Klans heard of today, but less extreme.
Ku Klux Klan 3
Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is known today as one of the most hated terrorist groups in
American history. They began as a group to do good and help others, but as they grew in popularity
good becomes terrorism. After many years of this groups massive destruction, they slowly subside.
Although the terrorism has ended, there are still groups today with multiple cases of discrimination
towards other races. Creation of Klan In December of 1865, a group of six former Confederate
veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866.
Ku Klux supposedly derived from the Greek word kyklos. 1 Another member then added Klan to tie
the name together ( Ku Klux Klan , 2001, para. 3). In the summer of 1867, local branches of the Klan
met in a general organizing convention and established what they called an Invisible Empire of

Examples Of Stereotyping In Grendel
In chapter four, Grendel brings a corpse to the mead hall and attempts to shows his sympathy to the
dead man by saying, Mercy! Peace! (Gardner 51). He also said, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52), he tries
to be friends with human by showing his sorrow. However, people in the meadhall think that Grendel
kills the man and he brings to the corpse to show off his strength and warns mankind to stay away,
people sees Grendel as a threat to them. People misunderstand Grendel s because of Grendel s
appearance, Grendel looks like a monster, and monster is always evil and violent in human s
perspective, they judge solely base on one s appearance, thus they are stereotyping Grendel.
Stereotyping is a very common phenomenon in today society, people tend to impose everything that
they acknowledged about a specific kind of people on to every one of them, we categorized people by
their skin colors, sex, religions, cultural background, etc. I have seen a lot of examples of stereotyping
in school community, when people say, That s so Asian when they see people have kimchi or chow
mein for lunch; when boys think girls are not strong enough to play soccer; and when people think
blonde is stupid than the others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Margaret Atwood Strengths And Weaknesses
Weaknesses: He won t ever be able to decapitate someone s head off with an axe, though seriously he
isn t made for being in melee combat. While he ironically is a tad durable than what you would expect
for a mage, Jared is nonetheless a dedicated supporting character who resists direct combat unless
around his allies. He is vulnerable to electric magic, (in fact he has a phobia of lighting,) as well as
Earth magic. Also he can be tempted and corrupted into becoming a dark mage and/or becoming evil.
School: Jared was believed to been a part of a clergy and therefore he comprehends some light healing
spells. He is known to have graduated a mage school in his hometown. Occupation: Supporting
character (in both aspects of the term.) Alignment: Lawful good, neutral good, (can become lawful
evil if tempted.) Bio: Jared grew up in a small town called Peachton. This humble and rural village

darkness if he s not careful. Appearance: Jared is a somewhat short, yet somewhat muscular male. He
is known to possess chestnut brown hair that is curly and jade green eyes that can sometimes be seen

Sacrifice A Tooth For A Worm
Sacrificing a Tooth for a Worm Jonathan Swift uses a series of metaphors to illustrate the process of
gaining knowledge on a deeper level, rather than just simply acquiring facts. Several of the metaphors
that he writes express the benefits of more thorough investigation, like when Swift likens wisdom to
drinking a mixed hot drink called a sack posset. He states, wherein the deeper you go, you will find it
the sweeter, this suggests the reward of looking past the surface for a more in depth understanding of a
concept or an idea (Swift 298). This metaphor promotes the value of inquiry and curiosity to find
wisdom or sweetness. Great value is to be found in the picking apart and the investigating the things in
your everyday life. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses the metaphor of choosing a nut to dispute his previous analogies, which unless you choose
with judgment, may cost you a tooth, and pay you with nothing but a worm (Swift 298). Instead of
receiving a sweeter drink or an egg for their work, one metaphorically gave up their own tooth for a
worthless worm. This idea strongly opposes Swift s previous four comparisons, one would expect to
gain great intelligence for giving up a tooth, or in other terms giving up a lifetime of research and
questions for nothing. This last statement challenges the idea that further inspection is worth while and
suggests that this inspection requires you to give up a lot for little in return. It proves that not
everything needs to be prodded and examined and that some things are better left unanswered. Swift
now suggests that a life where you know the answer and explanation for every query is one with little
reward. It can be beneficial to find all of the answers for particular questions, but not every question
that anyone has ever had. In addition to intelligence, wisdom also means accepting that some things
happen without any reason at all, however hard that is to

Compare And Contrast Michelangelo And Raphael
The Renaissance was a period in Europe civilisation that immediately followed the Middle Ages. It
was an era of cultural growth that was introduced in Italy and was carried on throughout northern
Europe lasting the 14th to 17th century. Many artists and scholars of that time period believed that
they were contributing in a revival of the ideals and worth of the periods that arrive before them. The
Renaissance period open doors for individuals to rediscover one s will and obligations of observing
the environment. It was an opening for them to express themselves in human terms. They shifted their

figural composition and made it Michelangelo esque. The painting was self confined and the essence
of scroll in both paintings were present, only Raphael evolved the way it is being held by Isaiah. This
similarity is carried on throughout the Stanze. But somehow, Raphael could never rise up to

implying that somehow if Holden keeps going on this downward path down, he could possibly even
end up dead as well, however that might happen. Mr. Antolini is trying to warn him of this fall and try
to help him, before he hits the ground. Mr. Antolini was not able catch James Castle and is trying to
make sure the same thing does not happen to Holden. Mr. Antolini says to Holden, So they gave up

The Role Of Playing Game ( Mmorpg )
Runescape is one of the first massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) that many
gamers have started with. Released in 2001, there were no games like it out there for its time. For
many of us gamers, Runescape was the beginning of an amazing journey. The game was free to play
on your web browser, no download necessary. Once your account was created you were able to start
your adventure in the exploration of Runescape, there is no better game you can get lost in. Runescape
is the missing piece of achievement, adventure, and connection that you are searching for. The concept
of the game was revolutionary from the questing to the combat system. Players would have complete
control on what they wanted to do. There was a ray of activities such as what type of combat, crafting,
merchanting, cooking, mining, hunting, and many others. With each milestone you hit a player would
feel a sense of accomplishment. The longer it took to reach that goal the more satisfying it was. This
sense of achievement was what all of us craved. For many players this system of gameplay at this
level was never seen before. We were used to the console games such as Zelda or Super Mario that
had a set storyline to follow and a goal to reach, once completed the game was over. Unlike the typical
game of the time Runescape was a never ending story. There was always something to achieve and
conquer within the game setting it apart from Zelda and Super Mario. Each day there is always

Nazi Propaganda, Myths, And Common Stories Essay
Between February 13, 1945 and February 15, 1945, the German city of Dresden was decimated by
Allied bombers. The bombing run, carried out by the RAF and USAAF, raised ethical and moral
debates because the city was neither a industrial nor a political center contributing to the Nazi war
effort. In order to determine the underlying motives behind the Allied attack and the extent to which
the attack was justified, the investigation will analyze Nazi propaganda, myths, and common stories in
response to the attack, the Yalta Conference in February 1945 with events in the winter of 1945
leading up to the attack, and the impact of the attack on the German war efforts. Word Count: 213

Dresden by indiscriminately dropping incendiary bombs, causing civilian causalities. On the evening
of February 13, 1945, 800 British RAF bombers indiscriminately delivered 1,400 tons of high
explosive bombs and 1,100 tons of incendiaries on Dresden. The Allies pointed out that unless
Dresden was bombed, the Germans could route rail traffic through Dresden to compensate for any
damage caused to Berlin and Leipzig. Nazi Propaganda German Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph

to have amazing results in its work, on a global scale. The key attributes of GM, were primarily in the
changes initiated by Mary Barra after the GM ignition switch recall crisis. Some of those attributes
include her willingness to openly acknowledge the undesirable aspects of the GM culture and her
efforts to take action towards a resolution. There are also several noticeable strengths and weaknesses
within the organization. One of the biggest weaknesses is the company s repeated inability to
acknowledge that, lack of functional culture and leadership are truly the root cause of the company s
issues. Based on my reading I would describe the current behavioral organizational model as a
Custodial Model. I chose this model because the managerial orientation is money, employee
orientation is security and benefits and performance results are passive cooperation. All of these
attributes were described in the reading.
Below are the four models that compare the current behavioral organizational model used above to
other models.
I. Autocratic Model
1. Depends on power.
2. Managerial orientation is authority.
3. Employee orientation is obedience.
4. Employee psychological result depends on the boss.
5. Employee needs met is subsistence.
6. Performance result is minimal.
Example: Military/ Soldiers.
II. Supportive Model
1. Depends on leadership.
2. Managerial orientation is

European Colonialism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart, and the reading African Challenge both look at the
consequences and benefits of European colonialism on the Igbo people and African culture. The novel
s main character is Okonkwo, who is the head the Umuofia clan, a Nigerian tribe. One of Okonkwo s
personal mission is to not be like his father, who he viewed as a coward and weak. Okonkwo s
accomplishes this mission by being obsessed with masculinity and viewing feminity in a derogatory
way. Okonkwo s hold over his clan is tested by the infusion of missionaries and along with them
colonialism into Nigeria. The African Challenge also talks about the European missionaries and their
mission to spread Christianity amongst the Igbo people and also about the beliefs that both societies
had about eachother. Through the incorporation of the Igbo language throughout his novel, and the
interactions of the Europeans with the Igbo people and their customs presented in both the novel and
African Challenge, we can see both the benefits and consequences that European colonialism had on
the Igbo society and African culture.
Both readings highlight how the Igbo people s insistence on sorcery and ancestral spirits leads to
conflict between the Europeans and the Igbo people. The first instance of conflict that arises in the
novel, is when a missionary to convert a village woman to Christianity, and accidentally kills an
ancestral spirit. This leads to the villagers burning the missionary s huts. The

The Struggle for Nuclear Power
Nuke em The struggle for nuclear power has been a problem since the dawn of the nuclear age.
Governments continue to use the threat of a nuclear attack as a deterrent. However, small terrorist
groups may not feel threatened by a nuclear attack due to their mobility. Thus, the question remains;
are nuclear weapons a necessary safety, or a danger. The solution is therefore to observe the pros and
cons of nuclear capabilities, and to look at some precautions that can be taken to help protect people.
The benefits of having nuclear weapons may not be quite as obvious as some of the downfalls of
having such capabilities. The entire purpose of nuclear weapons is to act as a deterrent the countries
possess these weapons but hope to never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As long as the plug and the cylinder and the plug are separated, nothing happens. Both parts quietly
emit a small amount of radiation, however, neither of the two pieces has enough mass to cause a
serious reaction. Some Uranium atoms are reacting and producing radiation, but there are not any
other atoms that are close enough for a chain reaction to start. However, when the two pieces are
brought together, a violent reaction occurs. This happens because there is such a high density of
Uranium that when one atom reacts it causes another atom to react and this sets off a chain reaction
(Dr. Donald Nye). In a nuclear generator rods of Uranium, that are producing radiation, are inserted
into giant tanks of water, the reaction occurring by the proximity of the Uranium atoms causes the
rods to generate heat, this in turn heats the water producing steam. The steam is the used to push a
turban, or something else to create work, which in turn gives us energy. There are also certain safety
measures put in place in case of an emergency to help keep the Uranium from reaching critical mass.
The fact that the rods are in water is mainly what keeps the explosion from happening and not as much
Uranium is used. If there is an emergency lead panels will drop between the rods preventing the
reaction from continuing to occur and cold water is pumped into the tanks

Similarities Between The American Society In The 1950s And...
American society today has been shaped by years past. After the Second World War, U.S. inhabitants
dedicated their lives and time to shape and improve America s culture to the way it is today. Through
the decades of the 1950s and today, the society has changed through scientific and technological
advances. On the other hand, aspects of the culture have not changed because its citizens have yet to
advance in those areas. American culture in 1950s and today have numerous similarities In the 50s,
cars were flashier and more luxurious than ever...and used as a symbol of status. Similarly, today,
upscale vehicles are still flashy and sleek...and upper class consumers use them to show the status of
their wealth. Depending on the income that people earn, cars that contain more features are of better
quality and class. Secondly, in the 1950s, ads had begun to seek out the attention on marketing for
children. The products sold have cartoon characters and bright colors. In the modern era, citizens use
similar tactics, using bright colors that are put at eye level. Children appeal to bright colors and
characters when a company advertises on T.V. or in stores. Next, huge department stores became
popular due to middle class increased power on spending. Now, the large chain department stores of
Dillard s and Macy s are still very popular. People enjoy going out and just spending their money on
the inventories that each department store has. Then in the 50s, fast food became a

Founders are able to maintain control of the startup. As theyput their blood sweat into their startup; the
thought of losing control is frightening and this structure gives them comfort
2. Other smaller stockholders are not be able to collectively overrule the founder on company
decisions
3. Allows strong leadership to put long term interests first while seeing beyond the near term financial
situation
4. Ownership stakes in managers hands tend to improve corporate performance
Cons:
1. Might scare off potential investors or even future hires
2. Allows a small group of privileged shareholders to maintain control while others (with less voting
power) provide the majority of the capital.
3. Heavy voting control by insiders weakens the corporate structure
4. These stocks tend to under perform

The Effects Of Birth Control And Abortion
On March 2, 1873, the Comstock Act was passed which forbade the sending through the mails of any
drug or medicine or any article whatever for the prevention of conception (Case Western University,
2010). Although this act did not focus on fertility, it remained as a statute for birth control. Birth
control and abortion were both considered obscenities (Case Western University, 2010). The
Comstock Laws declared family planning and contraception illegal and obscene (Planned Parenthood
Federation of America, 2014).
In 1916 Margaret Sanger, her sister, and a friend, opened the first Birth Control Clinic in Brooklyn,
New York (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). According to the Planned Parenthood
Federation of America (2014), Margaret Sanger witnessed the sickness, misery, and death that result
from unwanted pregnancy and illegal abortion . Her mother was one of those women who had endured
eighteen pregnancies, raised eleven children, and passed away at the age of 40 (Planned Parenthood
Federation of America, 2014). It was already a difficult era for women. During this time, women did
not have many rights. They were not allowed to vote, sign contracts, have bank accounts, or divorce
abusive husbands (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). The clinic provided
contraceptive advice to poor, immigrant women, until police raided it and the three women were
convicted of disseminating birth control information (Planned Parenthood Federation of America,
2014).

Descriptive Essay On Guest House
Crash A typical day at my grandparent s cabin in the Black Hills consists of a lot of sitting around and
just hanging out. Some days the whole family will go on a four wheeler ride for most of the day.
Sometimes we will go do something like visit a cave or drive to Rapid City or Custer or Hill City or
some other town out there. My Grandma cooks the best meals. You look forward to every single meal
knowing that it was going to be a great one. My dad s side of the family includes Stetson and Nick.
Not many people outside of my family have been to my grandparent s cabin, so I ll give you a little
description, it s not very small. The main house consists of 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, plus a lot of
space in the kitchen and living room. Next, you have a smaller guest house which consists of 3
bedrooms and 1 bathroom, plus a garage.
So Stetson, Nick, and I always hangout together out there and do the same things. We sleep in one of
the guest house rooms where there are 3 beds with a TV. One of the beds is a full size bed where
Stetson sleeps, and Nick and I sleep in 2 twin size beds. However, the twin size beds will give you a

Analysis on the Shift of Business Strategy for Ge Into the...
Question 1: In what ways has Jeff Immelt redirected the strategy of GE?
In 2001, shortly after Jeff Immelt became the CEO of GE, a series of events changed and impacted the
corporate landscape. The immediate challenges that he faced included 9/11, and a subsequent series of
high profile corporate scandals (Enron, WorldCom). In 2008, the financial crisis hit and had a severe
impact on GE s primary growth source, GE Capital causing it to accumulate bad debts and asset write
downs. These events caused slow domestic economic growth, crisis of confidence among investors
and more global competitors.
Due to the change in environment and the need to adapt Immelt shifted the focus of GE from cost

At the heart of Immelt s growth strategy for General Electric s was the development of new Growth
Platforms, which could be either extensions of the existing businesses or entire new commercial areas.
Even though Immelts core focus was on organic growth, repositioning to take advantage of the
emerging market trends and opportunities would require acquisition. Then once a new Growth
Platform was identified, GE would build a leading position in those sectors through small strategic
acquisitions and the deployment of its financial, technical and managerial resources.
GE was entering a new generational era, one where technology is at the forefront of growth and
adaptation. Immelt identified Technology as one of GE s major drivers for future growth which was
signaled by his expansion of GE s R D budgets. He shifted the importance of Technology within GE
by focusing on the R D projects that offered large scale market potential, reffered to as Imagination
breakthroughs .
Within this new business environment that GE was facing, customers needs, wants and expectations of
what products can offer them is forever changing. Immelt saw and understood this from the amount of
time spent with customers, and implemented this idea within GE through the IT

Creative Thinking
Creativity In Schools: A Maltese Perspective
Paper presented during the First International Conference on Strategic Innovation and Future Creation,
Malta, March 2009
Shirley Pulis Xerxen

The knowledge and skills needed in the future may not even be known at the time a person attends
school or university. As a result, these institutions cannot limit themselves to the transmission of set
contents, techniques and values, since these will soon be useless or even detrimental to living a full
life. (Cropley, 2006, p. 136)1

A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in
schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching
creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting, exciting
and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative in order to
capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of teaching that are
intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour. (NACCCE Report, 1999:
103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the teacher who wants to make any
learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to better teaching, whereas teaching for
creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning objective in teacher s planning of lesson
material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi faceted approach to creativity, an approach
that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3.
Creativity may be considered as one of the most important targets that education should aim for. When
a teacher aims to stimulate learners creativity, this can be fostered in a variety of ways, amongst which
there is the strategy of regarding students as active consumers of

Threats Against Big Companies And People Across The World
Threats against big companies and people across the world isn t a trending topic. A lack of protection
from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people and business
companies. Internally, hackers try to compromise computers and gather sensitive information from the
inside as if it was their private property. Externally, hackers gather information for their own personal
gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or person s home because they can find
access into the system a lot easier with new advanced technology. Over time, computer hacking has
grown into something that is essentially a worldwide problem in countries like North Korea, Russia,
the United States, and China that is. Overall, some these countries are trying to eliminate and capture
hackers and produce a stronger more secure based program for all of the computer platforms. The
literature points out that the only way of fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more
money into producing a more secure security system for all platforms that is basically impossible to
decode or enter the program.
The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they corroborated
each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the platforms. Myra
Din (2015) wrote an article called Breaching and Entering: When Data Scraping Should be a Federal
Computer Hacking Crime. In this study, she notes that

INTRODUCTION The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) promoted by Fama (1970) is considered an
important theory in financial area. However, the existence of momentum profits has threatened EMH.
One typical study in this issue is done by Jegadeesh and Titman (1993). They found that momentum
strategy realizes significant abnormal returns in each of the 12 months after portfolio s formation date.
In addition, Rouwenhorst (1998), Doukas and Macknight (2005) and Antoniou et al (2007) confirm
the existence of momentum profits in European markets. Liu et al (1999); Hon and Tonks (2003),
Galariotis et al (2007) and Li et al (2008) find significant momentum profits available in UK markets
over the sample period. Hart et al (2003) report momentum profits in 32 emerging markets. Griffin et
al (2003) observe the profitability of momentum strategy internationally, as too did Richards (1997),
Chan et al (2000) and Balvers and Wu (2006). A study by Hameed and Kusnadi (2002) address the
existence of momentum profits in Asian markets, whereas Demir et al (2004) prove its existence in
Australian markets 2 years later. The profitability of this strategy is also shown by Naughton et al
(2008) when they examine Chinese markets. Sources of momentum profits are an important issue that

Hierarchical Social Constructs Among Chinese Americans
Hierarchical Social Constructs amongst Chinese Americans
Introduction
There are many aspects of the Chinese American culture that other ethnic groups do not understand.
Social hierarchy, an overarching aspect of the Chinese American community, is a paradigm that shapes
Chinese American culture. This social hierarchy often affect personal decisions that may prompt a
Chinese national to want to immigrate to the United States. Once here, many of these now Chinese
Americans are forced to transact with the larger American population while negotiating their spot in
their expatriate hierarchy. As a Chinese family immigrates into the US, they are faced with many
decisions in regards to their acculturation and eventual assimilation. While negotiating these obstacles,
individual Chinese Americans are faced with the dilemma of what customs they want to retain and
what cultural nuances they want to discard. As there are many thriving Chinese American
communities in large US cities, it becomes imperative that social workers further understand Chinese
American culture. According to Barnes and Bennett, Immigration and births now account for
2,734,841 Chinese Americans living in the United States, the largest Asian American population
reported in the 2000 census (as cited in Dorton Lantz, 2007, p. 121). People want to emigrate out of
China for various reasons. Some people may decide to emigrate due to prospects of a better education,
improving one s family life, or as

Stepfamilies In Cinderella And The Brady Bunch
Q: There are all types of stepfamilies some are happy and satisfying, some are grim and stressful.
Most stepfamilies, like most other family forms, fall somewhere between these extremes. FATRA,
Chapter 22, page 357
A: The readings form this week primarily focused on familial relationships, particularly dealing with
divorce and remarriage. The reaction of children within the aforementioned families was also
examined. Divorce, although traditionally thought of as a detriment to the quality of family life, was
found to be perfectly appropriate and even positive in certain instances. This same concept can be

idea that families that faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one end of the spectrum, there is the wicked stepmother and stepsiblings, doing everything they
can to make Cinderella s life awful and miserable. On the other end, the Brady Bunch encompasses an
idea of the perfect, blended family; always able to work out their issues, learn valuable lessons, and be
happy at the end of the day. Clearly, neither of these symbols are realistic to the everyday divorced and
remarried family. The issue with Cinderella is that the research used to support the real life likelihood
is too simplified, not taking into account other factors. For example, maybe the tendency for
stepparents to provide fewer resources to their stepchildren is due to the added on need to support
biological children elsewhere. In the Brady Bunch, the new, challenging dimensions of a reformed
family seem to be largely avoided and even ignored. These inaccurate portrayals motivate their
research because they seek to explore stepfamilies as they really are and delve much deeper than the
superficial images in the media. They want to get past the early, deficit comparison approaches, and
explore the histories of the individuals rather than comparing them to other groups that are simply

Study on Delhi
The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison
of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of
how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a
standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been
reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9]
Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%,
depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of
injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a broad
definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with running
activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they found an
injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of
running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they
found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to
the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast
to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of

Warld War II
World War 2 was a gruesome war that had a terrible outcome. Millions of people were killed. Cities
were destroyed. Countries were bankrupted. During this war, the US played a significant role. The US
had a major strategy called Island Hopping, in which the US would take over islands in the
Philippines while slowly moving towards striking distance of Japan. Another important happening in
this was not necessarily a slow moving conquering, but a date. This day was D Day. A few years in
through World War 2, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This caused the US to take
action. The US came up with a very clever strategy to get back at Japan. They knew that the bombing
of Pearl Harbor had a very heavy emotional tone on Americans so they knew they needed to bomb
Japan back. However, US bombers could not make it across the Pacific Ocean. So, the US came up
with an idea to defeat many islands in the Philippines while slowly creeping towards Japan. This idea
was then called Operation Cartwheel . The first objective of the US in Operation Cartwheel was to
take Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands of the Philippines. On August 7, 1942, the US Marines
invaded the islands after naval preparatory shelling. They landed on the north beaches which were east
of the Tenaru River. For three months they suffered from diseases such as: diarrhea, dysentery,
malaria, and skin fungus. But they still managed to take over an airfield. At the end of

The Proposed Solution1 Builds A Framework For Add Static...
The proposed solution1 builds a framework to add static probes. This solution was designed and
implemented by me as part of VProbes[7] project during summer internship 2014 at VMware, inc. The
solution in this paper covers a high level overview of the framework. It builds on top of the existing
VProbes[7] design1. User space applications or the existing kernel source can add static probes using
this framework. The paper describes adding static probes in a user space application to keep the
explanation simple. Figure 1 shows a simple user code. The application contains two probe points
defined viz. FuncEntry and FuncExit. These are static probes which are added by the developer. The
probe points are expanded in a macro which is defined in the header file probes.h. Each of these probe
points are declared as a volatile integer variable. However, these integer variables are declared in a
separate section in the ELF file as shown in Figure 2. Thus all the defined probe points are part of new
section called probes_uwsection. The probe points are padded with a name called PROBE_ and
_PROBE to avoid name mangling issue in C++. Hence, after pre processing stage, every probe name
is padded. The application is compiled and loaded. During application load in the kernel, the binary is
intercepted at the ELF loader. In the ELF loader, the binary is checked for the presence of the new
section probes_uwsection. If the new section exists, all the probe points declared in the new

  • 2. Why Was The 13th Amendment Important The thirteenth amendment was the first amendment implemented into the United States Constitution to ending slavery. The thirteenth amendment states that neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime of which the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Library of Congress). Slavery started in the year 1619 in the Northern American colonies and continued to grow until the nation became divided between those who supported slavery and the others who did not support slavery (History.com Staff, 2009). International law scholars have increasingly taken the view that the term sovereignty means all and only those attributes which are given to a state under international law descriptive of the scope of state freedom as a legal rather than factual matter sovereignty. In this conception does not define, but is defined by the legal powers of a state within an international society of states. It does not exist prior to law, but as a set of attributes of the legal construct that is the state, existing as a consequence of law. As one scholar expressed it, sovereignty is nothing more or less than the legal competence which states have in general. The power of a sovereign to affect the right of persons, whether by legislation, executive decree, or by a judgement of a court is called jurisdiction. The power of soveiregn, therefore to affect legal rights depends upon law; and upon the law must be based all sovereign jurisdiction. Through the concept of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coco Chanel was all about empowering women through her designs by throwing stereotypes of how women should dress out of the window. She introduced many trends that we still see within todays society with many of her original products still on sale even after her death in 1971. One of her original designs in the early 1920 s was the little black dress. The dress was an update for the modern women, known for both its striking silhouette and dark tone. Since the Victorian times the dark tone was commonly associated mourning. However this was soon changed after, with Coco being the one of the causes that made black a colour which could be worn everyday, for Coco black was simple elegance. Rival couturier Paul Poiret reportedly scoffed at Chanel in the street, mockingly asking her, What are you in mourning for, Mademoiselle? The quick witted designer responded, For you, dear Monsieur. Touché! One of the ways that she broke the female stereotype was breaking the social rule that trousers were only for men. When WWI broke out in 1914, many women who took worked in manual roles began to wear trousers in the workplace. Coco Chanel loved wearing trousers herself, often borrowing her boyfriend s suits, ... • 7. The Process Of Making And Changing Laws Varies Throughout... Mid Term #2 Prompt 1 The process of making and changing laws varies throughout regions, cultures and religions. This trend applies to all religions, no matter how similar they may appear. Take for example, Catholicism and Judaism; religions that share common traits in beliefs, customs and law. These similarities may lead people to believe their legal process of legal change is also cognate, but that is not the case. Although their process of legal change may appear as similar, the key differences are highlighted through the legislators and the necessity of deriving law from an authoritative text. The factors that affect these differences relate to the structure of the organization, the governing body, and the purpose behind the creation of religious law in each system. Judaism s and Catholicism s legal process are alike in many different ways. For example, although rabbinic responsa and papal decretals seem completely different in definition, they share common characteristics. Responsa is defined as the answers to questions submitted by someone having communal authority to someone having greater communal authority ( Law and religion in Judaism , 46) The community asks questions regarding law, and the rabbis, an authoritative source, reply with a binding answer. On the other hand, papal decretals are laws and rules issued by the pope. The denotation of these processes sound completely different, but their similarity lies in the nature of papal decretals. • 8. Walls In The Cask Of Amontillado In the mid nineteenth century Romantic trend in American Literature, authors often used the idea of walls that human beings place between themselves and others both physically and symbolically. Unlike a fence of gate, which imply a way in or out, a wall is a sound structure. A wall is a barrier to block someone else out, or is it used to block yourself in? First, walls of both kinds are seen in the poetry and fiction of Edgar Allan Poe. In, The Cask of Amontillado, a physical wall is being built around a chained, Fortunato, forever forcing him to remain among the catacomb. Montresor has built this wall around his friend to seek revenge and be free of Fortunato. While physically free, he will become trapped by a symbolic wall of guilt as he is laying the last of the stone. The Raven, also by Poe, shows of a wall between the narrator and the refrained term, nevermore. The narrator does not wish to see the association with his wife, Lenore and death. • 10. Essay On Irish Dancing On Gait And Flexibility Research Proposal. Title: An examination into the effects that Irish dancing has on gait and ankle flexibility. Introduction The topic that will be discussed in this proposal is the effects of dancing on gait and ankle flexibility in dancers. The population being researched is dancers and will make comparisons between dancers and non dancers. The purpose of this research is for examining the effects dancing has on ankle flexibility and gait patterns in dancers and determining whether or not there is a difference between the gait patterns of dancers in comparison to non dancers. Dancing requires extreme ankle postures and unique balance. Intensive and long term practice of extreme ankle postures can cause changes in gait patterns in dancers during normal walking (Lung, Chern, Hsieh, Yang, 2008). Literature Review: The aim of the research carried out by Lung, Chern, Hsieh, and Yang (2008), was to investigate the differences in gait patterns between dancers and non dancers. • 17. Sacrifice A Tooth For A Worm Sacrificing a Tooth for a Worm Jonathan Swift uses a series of metaphors to illustrate the process of gaining knowledge on a deeper level, rather than just simply acquiring facts. Several of the metaphors that he writes express the benefits of more thorough investigation, like when Swift likens wisdom to drinking a mixed hot drink called a sack posset. He states, wherein the deeper you go, you will find it the sweeter, this suggests the reward of looking past the surface for a more in depth understanding of a concept or an idea (Swift 298). This metaphor promotes the value of inquiry and curiosity to find wisdom or sweetness. Great value is to be found in the picking apart and the investigating the things in your everyday life. In ... He uses the metaphor of choosing a nut to dispute his previous analogies, which unless you choose with judgment, may cost you a tooth, and pay you with nothing but a worm (Swift 298). Instead of receiving a sweeter drink or an egg for their work, one metaphorically gave up their own tooth for a worthless worm. This idea strongly opposes Swift s previous four comparisons, one would expect to gain great intelligence for giving up a tooth, or in other terms giving up a lifetime of research and questions for nothing. This last statement challenges the idea that further inspection is worth while and suggests that this inspection requires you to give up a lot for little in return. It proves that not everything needs to be prodded and examined and that some things are better left unanswered. Swift now suggests that a life where you know the answer and explanation for every query is one with little reward. It can be beneficial to find all of the answers for particular questions, but not every question that anyone has ever had. In addition to intelligence, wisdom also means accepting that some things happen without any reason at all, however hard that is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of those attributes include her willingness to openly acknowledge the undesirable aspects of the GM culture and her efforts to take action towards a resolution. There are also several noticeable strengths and weaknesses within the organization. One of the biggest weaknesses is the company s repeated inability to acknowledge that, lack of functional culture and leadership are truly the root cause of the company s issues. Through the incorporation of the Igbo language throughout his novel, and the interactions of the Europeans with the Igbo people and their customs presented in both the novel and African Challenge, we can see both the benefits and consequences that European colonialism had on the Igbo society and African culture. Some Uranium atoms are reacting and producing radiation, but there are not any other atoms that are close enough for a chain reaction to start. However, when the two pieces are brought together, a violent reaction occurs. This happens because there is such a high density of Uranium that when one atom reacts it causes another atom to react and this sets off a chain reaction (Dr. Donald Nye). In a nuclear generator rods of Uranium, that are producing radiation, are inserted into giant tanks of water, the reaction occurring by the proximity of the Uranium atoms causes the rods to generate heat, this in turn heats the water producing steam. The steam is the used to push a turban, or something else to create work, which in turn gives us energy. There are also certain safety measures put in place in case of an emergency to help keep the Uranium from reaching critical mass. The Effects Of Birth Control And Abortion On March 2, 1873, the Comstock Act was passed which forbade the sending through the mails of any drug or medicine or any article whatever for the prevention of conception (Case Western University, 2010). Although this act did not focus on fertility, it remained as a statute for birth control. Birth control and abortion were both considered obscenities (Case Western University, 2010). The Comstock Laws declared family planning and contraception illegal and obscene (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). In 1916 Margaret Sanger, her sister, and a friend, opened the first Birth Control Clinic in Brooklyn, New York (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). According to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (2014), Margaret Sanger witnessed the sickness, misery, and death that result from unwanted pregnancy and illegal abortion . Her mother was one of those women who had endured eighteen pregnancies, raised eleven children, and passed away at the age of 40 (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). It was already a difficult era for women. During this time, women did not have many rights. They were not allowed to vote, sign contracts, have bank accounts, or divorce abusive husbands (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). The clinic provided contraceptive advice to poor, immigrant women, until police raided it and the three women were convicted of disseminating birth control information (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2014). ... • 30. Descriptive Essay On Guest House Crash A typical day at my grandparent s cabin in the Black Hills consists of a lot of sitting around and just hanging out. Some days the whole family will go on a four wheeler ride for most of the day. Sometimes we will go do something like visit a cave or drive to Rapid City or Custer or Hill City or some other town out there. My Grandma cooks the best meals. You look forward to every single meal knowing that it was going to be a great one. My dad s side of the family includes Stetson and Nick. Not many people outside of my family have been to my grandparent s cabin, so I ll give you a little description, it s not very small. The main house consists of 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, plus a lot of space in the kitchen and living room. Next, you have a smaller guest house which consists of 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, plus a garage. So Stetson, Nick, and I always hangout together out there and do the same things. We sleep in one of the guest house rooms where there are 3 beds with a TV. One of the beds is a full size bed where Stetson sleeps, and Nick and I sleep in 2 twin size beds. However, the twin size beds will give you a massage and can sit up and lay down. During the day we usually lie around or ride four wheelers around the area.. In 2001, shortly after Jeff Immelt became the CEO of GE, a series of events changed and impacted the corporate landscape. The immediate challenges that he faced included 9/11, and a subsequent series of high profile corporate scandals (Enron, WorldCom). In 2008, the financial crisis hit and had a severe impact on GE s primary growth source, GE Capital causing it to accumulate bad debts and asset write downs. These events caused slow domestic economic growth, crisis of confidence among investors and more global competitors. Due to the change in environment and the need to adapt Immelt shifted the focus of GE from cost cutting and deal making to new products, services ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the heart of Immelt s growth strategy for General Electric s was the development of new Growth Platforms, which could be either extensions of the existing businesses or entire new commercial areas. Even though Immelts core focus was on organic growth, repositioning to take advantage of the emerging market trends and opportunities would require acquisition. Then once a new Growth Platform was identified, GE would build a leading position in those sectors through small strategic acquisitions and the deployment of its financial, technical and managerial resources. GE was entering a new generational era, one where technology is at the forefront of growth and adaptation. Immelt identified Technology as one of GE s major drivers for future growth which was signaled by his expansion of GE s R D budgets. He shifted the importance of Technology within GE by focusing on the R D projects that offered large scale market potential, reffered to as Imagination breakthroughs . Within this new business environment that GE was facing, customers needs, wants and expectations of what products can offer them is forever changing. As a result, these institutions cannot limit themselves to the transmission of set contents, techniques and values, since these will soon be useless or even detrimental to living a full life. A holistic approach An important distinction needs to be made when dealing with creativity in schools, that is the difference between teaching creatively and teaching for creativity. Teaching creatively refers to teachers using imaginative approaches to make learning more interesting, exciting and effective. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 102). Teachers often need to be highly creative in order to capture learners interest and attention. Teaching for creativity refers to forms of teaching that are intended to develop young people s own creative thinking or behaviour. (NACCCE Report, 1999: 103). The way I see it, teaching creatively is a tool in the hands of the teacher who wants to make any learning experience meaningful, creative teaching as a means to better teaching, whereas teaching for creativity implies the inclusion of creativity as a learning objective in teacher s planning of lesson material. Teaching for creativity must acknowledge a multi faceted approach to creativity, an approach that takes into account all the aspects of creativity where education is concerned (Prentice, 2000) 3. Creativity may be considered as one of the most important targets that education should aim for. When a teacher aims to stimulate learners creativity, this can be fostered in a variety of ways, amongst which there is the strategy of regarding students as active consumers of ... • 34. Threats Against Big Companies And People Across The World Threats against big companies and people across the world isn t a trending topic. A lack of protection from within the platforms can create internal, external, and political problems for people and business companies. Internally, hackers try to compromise computers and gather sensitive information from the inside as if it was their private property. Externally, hackers gather information for their own personal gain and to pose a great threat from outside of the business or person s home because they can find access into the system a lot easier with new advanced technology. Over time, computer hacking has grown into something that is essentially a worldwide problem in countries like North Korea, Russia, the United States, and China that is. Overall, some these countries are trying to eliminate and capture hackers and produce a stronger more secure based program for all of the computer platforms. The literature points out that the only way of fixing the problem with hackers is to invest much more money into producing a more secure security system for all platforms that is basically impossible to decode or enter the program. The six sources I examined on this topic agreed on many aspects. The first way that they corroborated each other was on the issue that companies have a lack of secure security among the platforms. Myra Din (2015) wrote an article called Breaching and Entering: When Data Scraping Should be a Federal Computer Hacking Crime. In this study, she notes that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the existence of momentum profits has threatened EMH. One typical study in this issue is done by Jegadeesh and Titman (1993). They found that momentum strategy realizes significant abnormal returns in each of the 12 months after portfolio s formation date. In addition, Rouwenhorst (1998), Doukas and Macknight (2005) and Antoniou et al (2007) confirm the existence of momentum profits in European markets. Liu et al (1999); Hon and Tonks (2003), Galariotis et al (2007) and Li et al (2008) find significant momentum profits available in UK markets over the sample period. Hart et al (2003) report momentum profits in 32 emerging markets. Griffin et al (2003) observe the profitability of momentum strategy internationally, as too did Richards (1997), Chan et al (2000) and Balvers and Wu (2006). A study by Hameed and Kusnadi (2002) address the existence of momentum profits in Asian markets, whereas Demir et al (2004) prove its existence in Australian markets 2 years later. The profitability of this strategy is also shown by Naughton et al (2008) when they examine Chinese markets. Hierarchical Social Constructs Among Chinese Americans Hierarchical Social Constructs amongst Chinese Americans Introduction There are many aspects of the Chinese American culture that other ethnic groups do not understand. Social hierarchy, an overarching aspect of the Chinese American community, is a paradigm that shapes Chinese American culture. This social hierarchy often affect personal decisions that may prompt a Chinese national to want to immigrate to the United States. Once here, many of these now Chinese Americans are forced to transact with the larger American population while negotiating their spot in their expatriate hierarchy. As a Chinese family immigrates into the US, they are faced with many decisions in regards to their acculturation and eventual assimilation. While negotiating these obstacles, individual Chinese Americans are faced with the dilemma of what customs they want to retain and what cultural nuances they want to discard. As there are many thriving Chinese American communities in large US cities, it becomes imperative that social workers further understand Chinese American culture. According to Barnes and Bennett, Immigration and births now account for 2,734,841 Chinese Americans living in the United States, the largest Asian American population reported in the 2000 census (as cited in Dorton Lantz, 2007, p. 121). Most stepfamilies, like most other family forms, fall somewhere between these extremes. FATRA, Chapter 22, page 357 A: The readings form this week primarily focused on familial relationships, particularly dealing with divorce and remarriage. The reaction of children within the aforementioned families was also examined. Divorce, although traditionally thought of as a detriment to the quality of family life, was found to be perfectly appropriate and even positive in certain instances. This same concept can be applied to the quality of life within families dealing with remarriage as well. It also focused on the idea that families that faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one end of the spectrum, there is the wicked stepmother and stepsiblings, doing everything they can to make Cinderella s life awful and miserable. On the other end, the Brady Bunch encompasses an idea of the perfect, blended family; always able to work out their issues, learn valuable lessons, and be happy at the end of the day. Clearly, neither of these symbols are realistic to the everyday divorced and remarried family. The issue with Cinderella is that the research used to support the real life likelihood is too simplified, not taking into account other factors. For example, maybe the tendency for stepparents to provide fewer resources to their stepchildren is due to the added on need to support biological children elsewhere. In the Brady Bunch, the new, challenging dimensions of a reformed family seem to be largely avoided and even ignored. These inaccurate portrayals motivate their research because they seek to explore stepfamilies as they really are and delve much deeper than the superficial images in the media. They want to get past the early, deficit comparison approaches, and explore the histories of the individuals rather than comparing them to other groups that are simply unlike ... • 40. Study on Delhi The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9] Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%, depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a broad definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with running activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they found an injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of ... During this war, the US played a significant role. The US had a major strategy called Island Hopping, in which the US would take over islands in the Philippines while slowly moving towards striking distance of Japan. Another important happening in this was not necessarily a slow moving conquering, but a date. This day was D Day. A few years in through World War 2, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This caused the US to take action. The US came up with a very clever strategy to get back at Japan. They knew that the bombing of Pearl Harbor had a very heavy emotional tone on Americans so they knew they needed to bomb Japan back. However, US bombers could not make it across the Pacific Ocean. So, the US came up with an idea to defeat many islands in the Philippines while slowly creeping towards Japan. This idea was then called Operation Cartwheel . The first objective of the US in Operation Cartwheel was to take Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands of the Philippines. On August 7, 1942, the US Marines invaded the islands after naval preparatory shelling. They landed on the north beaches which were east of the Tenaru River. For three months they suffered from diseases such as: diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, and skin fungus. But they still managed to take over an airfield. At the end of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Proposed Solution1 Builds A Framework For Add Static... The proposed solution1 builds a framework to add static probes. This solution was designed and implemented by me as part of VProbes[7] project during summer internship 2014 at VMware, inc. The solution in this paper covers a high level overview of the framework. It builds on top of the existing VProbes[7] design1. User space applications or the existing kernel source can add static probes using this framework. The paper describes adding static probes in a user space application to keep the explanation simple. Figure 1 shows a simple user code. The application contains two probe points defined viz. FuncEntry and FuncExit. These are static probes which are added by the developer. The probe points are expanded in a macro which is defined in the header file probes.h. Each of these probe points are declared as a volatile integer variable. However, these integer variables are declared in a separate section in the ELF file as shown in Figure 2. Thus all the defined probe points are part of new section called probes_uwsection. The probe points are padded with a name called PROBE_ and _PROBE to avoid name mangling issue in C++. Hence, after pre processing stage, every probe name is padded. The application is compiled and loaded. During application load in the kernel, the binary is intercepted at the ELF loader. In the ELF loader, the binary is checked for the presence of the new section probes_uwsection. If the new section exists, all the probe points declared in the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
