June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. The Prevalence Of Stressors And Anxiety Disorders
Introduction
Stress and anxiety affect a large segment of the child and adolescent population. Numerous stressors
from a wide range of domains contribute to the current levels of subclinical anxiety and diagnosed
anxiety disorders. Without effective coping strategies, the cumulative effect of these stressors can lead
to the clinical diagnosis of one or more anxiety disorders. Left untreated, these disorders can carry
severe long term consequences, including social, cognitive, and academic impairments. Furthermore,
these deficiencies can lead to significant limitations in adulthood, such as reduced career choices,
substance abuse, and an increase in the use of both mental and physical health care.
This paper will first review the prevalence of stressors and anxiety disorders, as well as the associated
negative outcomes. It will then investigate the merits and limitations of several programs designed to
treat and prevent anxiety disorders. Lastly, this article will discuss the FRIENDS for Life program,
and a means of implementation.
Background Significance
Prevalence of Stressors and Anxiety
Numerous studies have demonstrated the impact of stress on the lives of youth. Adolescents are
exposed to a plethora of stressors that range from family discord (Omizo, Omizo, Suzuki, 1988) to
peer relationships (Newcomb, Huba, Bentler, 1986; Patterson McCubbin, 1987) to economic
hardships (Lempers, Clark Lempers, Simon, 1989). However, the most frequently reported stressors

Population Growth in Perspective
Introduction
To anyone even remotely acquainted with the situation, the ever expanding world population can
easily be a cause of grave concern. Indeed, the simple realization that the total world population will
most likely be doubling within the next century may seem to imply catastrophe. Considering the strain
our current huge population puts on the world, is it not natural to presume that two times our number
will spell disaster? While this is the view held by many prominent voices, there also is a less noticed
group of people who contend that the resiliency of the earth and the ingenuity of its people will keep
the planet a decent place to live.
In this paper, I attempt to critically examine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, people have operated under the assumption that the world was (or was on its way to being)
overpopulated.
I began my research in this topic with the same outlook. I initially wanted to research overpopulation
because I was deeply concerned with its implications. I wanted to understand the causes of population
growth and to learn what might be done to ameliorate the problem. Soon into the research, however, I
happened upon pieces of literature opposing the idea of an overpopulation crisis and immediately
respected certain aspects of their arguments. Quickly, I was forced to change the scope of my question
from what will be the consequences of overpopulation? to what exactly does overpopulation mean?
and does an overpopulation problem even exist? .
History of Population Crises
The seed of my doubt that an overpopulation crisis was imminent was planted when I began to
examine the historical record of population concerns. As a history major, I have at least some respect
for patterns in history. While I recognize that new things can emerge, often a current event is a variant
on an earlier expressed theme.
Regarding population, the first documented concerns over population size date from a Babylonian
epic from 1600 BC (Cohen, 1995). More writings on the topic across the globe have continued since
then, themselves probably increasing at a rate faster than the

4. Repression In Psychology
Do all memories hold the same value in one s mind? Certainly the memory of last year s history test
does not carry the same significance as the memory of a traumatic event of the past. In either case, the
memory can be lost; however, the process in which this takes place has been a crucial question in the
debate between repression and ordinary forgetting. The controversy over manners involved in
forgetting traumatic events has generated powerful discussions between experts in the field of
psychology. The phenomenon of repression has been researched and expanded upon from Sigmund
Freud s views in 1915 by the recent works of Jennifer Freyd, Dennis Bull, and Linda Williams. Their
position on the matter is consistent with the notion that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The first and most striking bit of evidence for dissociation out of William s study is that out of 129
women with documented cases of sexual abuse, 38 percent had no recollection of the abuse 17 years
later (Williams, 1994, p. 1167). The fact that the 129 cases were reported to a city hospital at the time
the abuse occurred gives validity to the research because it takes the false memory debate out of the
picture. As Williams (1994) stated, The finding that such a high proportion, 38% of the women, did
not tell the interviewer about the child sexual abuse that was documented in the hospital records from
the 1970s was quite dramatic...this is a significant proportion of the sample (p. 1170). Some may argue
that this number could be flawed due to the possibility that some women did not want to tell the
interviewer about the abuse; however, as stated by Williams (1994), although some of these women
may have simply decided not to tell the interviewers about the abuse, additional findings discussed
later suggest that the majority of these women actually did not remember the abuse (p. 1170). These
additional findings include the willingness of subjects to disclose many other personal matters to their
interviewer, including other experiences of childhood sexual or physical abuse; in fact, 68 percent of
the women who did not recall the documented abuse reported other sexual assaults (Williams, 1994, p.
1170). The second piece of evidence for repression introduces a new support in line with Fryed s
theory of betrayal trauma, which is that recollection is higher in cases where the sexual abuse was
committed by someone they

5. Vandalism Vs Graffiti
Art comes in different types of styles and forms. However, its evaluation has become problematic
since the turn of the twentieth century with a new controversial art form of graffiti becoming popular
by many artists. On two sides of the spectrum, works of art that are produced by graffiti artists
demonstrate a broad spectrum of personal and cultural expressions through past experiences of
economics and social policies set by the state. Throughout this paper, I will look at three areas of
whether increases graffiti is related to the city policies. First is the social relation of inequality and
power within the urban cities as a whole. Second is the current policies implemented in St. Catharines,
Ontario and whether they are decreases the amount of graffiti seen on the street or not. Finally, is the
approach I would like personal take within the city of St. Catharines and the policies that I would
implement to decrease case of graffiti on private business property.
Social Relations of Inequality and Power in Cities
With the origin of graffiti dating all the way back to ancient civilization in Ancient Romans and
Greece, we can see that in the past graffiti was used as a form communicating their names on
buildings. Graffiti defined by Oxford is writing, or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly
on a wall or other surface in a public place (Oxford 2017). Many institutions looked at graffiti as being
vandalism due to the definition that graffiti is with as being

7. Puritans In New England
The Puritans were a widespread and diverse group of people who took a stand in the 16th and 17th
century in Europe. Their rise was directly related to the increased knowledge that that came to the
common people during the Enlightenment. As people learned to read and write, and as the bible
became more accessible to the commoners, many began to read the bible for themselves. The word
Puritan first came as a term for those who advocated more purity in the church. Under siege from
church and crown, it sent an offshoot in the 3rd and 4th decades of the seventeenth century to the
northern english colonies in the New World a migration that laid the foundation for the religious,
intellectual, and social order of New England. (history.com staff Delbanco) ... Show more content on

The basic beliefs of Puritans were Unconditional Election, which meant God chose who would be
saved and who wouldn t. A person could not persuade to change God s choice, and being a member of
the Puritan church did not mean you would be saved. Limited Atonement, which meant that Christ s
atonement did not extend to everyone, only those who were chosen to be saved by him. Only those
whom God elected received the salvation benefits of God s salvation. Irresistible Grace, Puritans
believed that once chosen by God s grace, you cannot resist it. Being chosen meant that a person had
found the right path to salvation. Being choses internally meant that God changed a person s heart.
Finally, Perseverance of the Saints, which meant a person elected by God s grace would never depart

8. The Relationship Between Asperger Syndrome And Autism
Introduction The relationship between Asperger syndrome and autism has been a controversial topic in
psychology. There is not a definite correlation which has been decided upon between the two and
chiefly due to the fact that they are both overly similar. Concisely, psychologists seek to identify the
main difference between them. In a simpler way, it is not yet clear whether autism and Asperger
syndrome should be defined as independent (distinct) terms, or whether Asperger syndrome should be
categorized under the wider realm of autism. In their researche, multiple scholars have come upon
differing opinions and theories in support of their own perceptions of the two disorders which either
agree or disagree at some point. Asperger syndrome is derived from Hans Asperger who is highly
recognized for his efforts in defining the disease which many scholars had described as not
diagnosable (Mayes, Calhoun Crites, 2001). Context of research To understand the standoff between
autism and Asperger syndrome, it is important to understand the common basis of the two disorders as
provided by Frith (1991). Autism, which is usually termed as the parent disorder that may give rise to
Asperger syndrome, is a brain abnormality resulting from brain disease, brain insult, or faults arising
from genetic factors. Additionally, it is developmental, meaning that it manifests itself differently
depending on factors such as ability or age. Since the disorder affects the brain, it is termed as a

9. The Greensburg Tornado Essay
On May 4, 2007, the town of Greensburg, Kansas was devastated by an exceptionally strong tornado.
With maximum winds estimated to be in excess of 205 miles per hour, and leaving a damage path as
wide as 1.7 miles, the storm would go on to be rated a rare EF5, the first recorded in the United States
since 1999. When the storm finally subsided, 95 percent of Greensburg had been destroyed, killing
eleven people.
h3 The Setup /h3
May 4 began in much the same way as many other spring days in the Great Plains. Cool, dry air from
the north clashed with warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, creating the sort of unstable
atmosphere that is so common to Tornado Alley. An intense low pressure system moved in and stalled

On the evening of May 4, atmospheric conditions made it possible for a number of these supercells to
sustain themselves for long distances, spawning twisters in cycles across their path.
h3 The Greensburg Tornado /h3
After prompting several warnings across the area, storm chaser groups reported that a particularly
violent supercell had spawned a funnel just southwest of Greensburg at 9:20 p.m. By 9:38 p.m., the
storm had grown to a half mile wide wedge as it approached the town, with several satellite vortices
observed rotating around the main vortex. At 9:41 p.m., the National Weather Service station located
in Dodge City, Kan. issued an emergency statement for the town of Greensburg, indicating the
extreme peril of the situation.
Shortly after the emergency statement was issued, the storm entered the town near its peak strength.
The twister stayed on the ground for a total of 22 miles, passing entirely through Greensburg and
leaving 95 percent of the city destroyed, with the remaining five percent significantly damaged.
Damage surveys done after the storm found areas in which significant damage extended well in excess
of a mile in width. Maximum wind speeds were estimated at 205 miles per hour, though the extent and
degree of damage don t rule out a significantly higher wind speed.
The Greensburg storm was unique for several reasons. In addition to its ferocious intensity, the
structure of the storm as recorded by storm chasers and weather

INTRODUCTION It is common consensus that the levels of light and noise in a Neonatal Intensive
Care Unit (NICU) ward has always been and presently unacceptable, although historically there has
been ongoing debate about the exact level and type of impact this environment has on preterm infants
in terms of their sleep patterns and neuropsychological development. There has been some support by
substantial research that has previously found stimulation in the NICU has a detrimental effect on the
development, growth and quality of sleep of infants. Long term implications have also been found to
have a negative effect on the motor and neurological functioning of preterm infants. However, other
studies argue that they had found no significant effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to provide premature babies with the many undisturbed rest hours they require for their
development, health and well being. The investigation was done by three different principal designers
and a team in three stages, understanding the problem (vision building), verifying (specifying) by
conducting a feasibility study, and project management (preparation for strict development). Despite
the positive results of many academic and company studies, several physicians reported in personal
communication that the actual sound levels at the ward has only changed marginally (if at all) over the
years. Sound levels at the NICU are problematic for the neonate infants, because noise is a direct
cause of long lasting auditory problems and a significant cause of neurologic impairment,
cardiovascular and respiratory problems. There were new technology measures proposed to minimise
or overcome these problems, including a central system connecting all medical equipment, centrally
controlled sound generating units with redesigned sounds and user interfaces. Despite only having
found two studies on the variable of movement, both researchers agreed that movement
(tactile/kinaesthetic stimulation) had positive effects on a range of developmental outcomes of preterm
infants. Only two studies suggested new solutions for this ongoing problem, but yet again none of
these have been tried, tested or proven in real cases. The fact that there are barely any studies done on
the variable of constant movement makes problems in this field of research even more challenging to
solve, hence the need for further interest and research on the specific variables of constant movement,
light and noise if we are going to provide and create a

Season ending injuries: Psychosocial aspect of rehabilitation within the athlete
In all levels of sport, involvement there is a high incidence of injuries that are bound to occur. These
injuries can range in severity, from simple cuts and bruises to season or even career ending injuries. In
many cases, the injured athlete is initially assessed and diagnosed with whatever ailment they may
have. Next, the athlete is treated for that injury whether it be surgery, physical therapy, or both and
then is given time to physically recover from that injury. This execution of treatment is known as the
biomedical model, which the majority of physicians in today s practice use. This plan seems to be
universal and effective in many cases. What many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with this form of post injury goal setting program. I believe that if we as a consultant can keep
the athlete striving for his or her own goals they can still feed the competitive drive that remains
within the athlete. By continuing to set goals for the athlete we need to keep in mind that these goals
need to be task oriented and not ego oriented. In other words, these goals set forth by the athlete and
his physical therapist or consultant need to be concerned with the development of competence within
the rehabilitation of the athlete. Doing so will promote self efficacy through the value and
commitment of the rehabilitation. What we should try to avoid, is setting ego based goals where the
athlete is compared to previous or current athletes with the same injury. This only lowers self
confidence and increases the already high anxiety levels within the injured athlete.
In the second journal by (Rapp, 2006) the researcher conducted a test by which, Individual responses
of injured athletes varied from those who took injury in stride to those who required psychiatric
intervention. Rapp (p. 9) This seemed to significantly designate the further examination of the
importance of not simply Assuming mood disturbances nor overlooking a serious emotional response
in the injured athlete. Rapp (pg.13) Therefore, the athlete can be diagnosed in a clinical sense with the
appropriate testing to confirm or rule out the need for psychiatric help at the time

A shareholder theory of firm and a stakeholder theory of firm may differ in their respective evaluation
method of firm performance. Both theories however recognize the importance of value creation as the
economic role of firms as institutions. The New Institutional Economics (NIE) emphasizes incentives
alignment, while also viewing stakeholder engagements as methods to expand the boundaries of firms.
The difference in performance evaluation between the two approaches can be reduced if stakeholders,
while formulating incentive alignment, also evaluate the mechanisms of establishing a common
currency value. The concomitant development of stakeholder engagement, incentive alignment, and
value currency creation is argued to be an evolutionary process with the efficiency implications of the
two theories tending to converge.
Business sustainability, which originally was viewed as a question of corporate governance, has now

corporate boards and managers to focus on business sustainability by creating enduring value for
shareholders and managing the interests of other stakeholders, including creditors, employers,

16. Why We Should Reclaim The Appalachian Mountain
As a young Kentuckian, I recognize the importance of coal to the world s energy supply and its
increasing use worldwide. Coal does indeed power the nation, but at what cost? At the cost of
Appalachian qualities of life, at the cost of their health, the environment, and the economy. No one
should suffer like the Appalachian region has due to the extensive devastation resulting from
mountaintop removal. We, as a country, should stand up and defend Appalachia. We should come up
with clean alternative energy sources or methods of obtaining coal rather than explosively destroying
the entire Appalachian region one mountaintop at a time. We call upon anyone who is eager to learn
more about coal and mountaintop removal to get educated and involve yourself in the fight to reclaim
the Appalachian mountains for the environment and the well being of our nation.
After weeks of in depth research, I feel that I am well educated on the issue of mountaintop removal. I
have seen many of the negative side effects of the blasting, harvesting, mining, and reclamation of the
mountains and its impact on the environment. The natives of Appalachia, as well as in many nearby
regions, are exposed to harmful toxins in the air, water and even the land. The mining business is
dangerous and risky. It puts the miners in peril on the job and brings worry to the families waiting for
them back home. I realize the danger and costs of mountaintop removal and will begin with a simple
question: is coal worth it?

Pediatrics is my career passion. My life ambition is to become a remarkable and respected physician.
I was born in the small farming community of Rose Hall, in my home country St. Vincent and the

village where everybody knew one another and cultivated genuine community spirit. At the age of

Consequently, I spent most of each year away from my family. Despite this sudden change and the
uncertainties that shadowed it, I was blessed with various life impacting opportunities that I would not
have gained in a school in my rural district. After high school, I was the first in my family to enter and

Audience in Mind What makes a good writer? Many people have differing opinions on what makes a
person a good writer, or the standard in which one can write. One of the main things to remember
about writing is to always keep your audience in mind, and adjust you writing style and language
accordingly. Also remember that writing is process which takes time to perfect. English has never
been one of my favorite subjects, mainly just because I never really consider myself to be a good
writer and by the normal standard I may not be. In a sense though, I found contrary to my belief that
my writing wasn t all that bad. Now it took time for me to see that for myself, because ... Show more

There some people that are incredibly street smart but do not fair so well in school but in Gerald Graff
s Hidden Intellectualism Graff argues that street smarts are just as important as book smarts. Graff
says that It is a matter of finding points of convergence and translation, moments when student
discourse can be translated into academic discourse and vice versa, producing a kind of bilingualism
on both sides of the student teacher divide (Graff, Hidden Intellectualism). In other words, for a
student with street smarts to learn to read academically, students need to read things that interest them,
encouraging them to dive into their reading, forming an opinion and arguing their point. When you
think about it this does makes sense, you can t get that student to read more intellectual readings
without first starting with something that interest them and then let them naturally move toward more
intellectual reading. I myself was this way in high school, I was always uninterested in the required
readings. Many times, failed to even read them and when I did it was just to get a grade. I never really
formed my own opinion of the reading, except for the fact that I just didn t like it. However, when we
could pick our own reading material, something that interested me, I was more drawn in and able to
form my own opinion, caring about what I was reading. By doing so this allows students with street
smarts, to not only become drawn toward the more intellectual reading, it will get to a point where
they want to argue their points and form their own opinions. The question though is being street smart
better than book smart, and in my opinion, this can be situational, depending on what you are doing
would determine which one is better but when coupled they work well together. In writing which
would you rather have, someone who can express their opinion, and

19. Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator Essay
Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator
In the 19th Century, Russia had no zemstva, very little education, industry and railway building, a
biased judicial system and very few freed peasants. Czar Alexander II, who succeeded Nicolas I in
1855, went some ways to remedying these deficiencies through a series of reforms. Alexander II
became the great modernizer of Russia, walking a delicate line between preserving Russia s Slavic
identity and enabling its people to benefit from Western advancements. For this reason he was known
to some as the Czar Liberator . However, indeed he was a liberator in name only.
Alexander II initiated substantial reforms in education, the government, the ... Show more content on

For the educational reform, the Czar adopted a more liberal education. Censorship was relaxed, the
universities were given freedom and independence, and more Western ideas were introduced to
scholars and students. People were more open minded and became to demand more under these liberal
reforms.
Though Czar Alexander II returned to reactionary rule when an attempt was made to assassinate him
in the 1860s, he did turn once more to reform in 1880. He made plans to set up a General Commission
which would include representatives from the Zemstva. This would not be a parliament but would be a
consultative voice when the Czar required it. But this was an attempt towards a parliamentary
government.
Superficially, Czar Alexander II seemed to be so liberate from his series of reform. Yet,
notwithstanding these measures, it would be wrong, as is sometimes done, to describe Alexander II as
a liberal. He was in fact a firm upholder of autocratic principles, sincerely convinced both of his duty
to maintain the God given autocratic power he had inherited and of Russia s unreadiness for
constitutional or representative government.
For the emancipation of serfs, it was actually essential more than out of the Czar s willingness. The
bulk of the Russian population, about 80%, were the peasants and serfs. Alexander II recognised that
emancipation was vital. Freed

The Rose That Grew from Concrete by Tupac Shakur
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete
Proving nature s laws wrong it learned to walk without having feet

Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared!

Tupac Shakur was a rapper from California, known for his socially conscious songs that concern
violence, racism, and hardship. Outside of the booth, the rapper was characterized for his vocalness on

Nature s laws represent that, in the ghetto, you re not expected to make it out and make something
good of yourself. It s the law. When Shakur says he learned to walk without feet, it symbolizes how he
is self made, and got through the struggle on his own. While he doesn t specifically mention it, I
attribute him being able to make it out of the ghetto to his education, as he was more privileged than
most of the kids in his surroundings. Growing up, Shakur attended the Baltimore School for the Arts,
where he studied poetry, music, and acting. I believe this gave him the skills to rise above his
surroundings, because his art skills gave him a way to express himself, which lead to his success.
Next, Shakur says, Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air (5 6) The
dream or goal of a rose is to live, as with any plant. Also, the dreams mentioned here could serve as a
double entendre. Shakur, as the rose, could be stating that he just wants to live, as thats the goal of

21. Venus And The Greenhouse Effect
Today in everyday life, the Greenhouse effect has been heating up our planet Earth. But not only has
Earth been effected, Mars, the moon Titan, and most importantly Venus. Because Venus is so closely
related to Earth, scientist have used Venus s problem to predict what could happen to Earth in the
future. Most of Venus s problem come from being so close to the sun, the thickness of its atmosphere,
and its past experience with the Runaway Greenhouse Effect.
The definition of greenhouse effect is, as the planet absorbs the sun s energy, it also releases a
different form of energy called radiation which gets absorbed by the greenhouse gases making the
atmosphere warmer. One of the main Greenhouse gases is Carbon Dioxide, which is very effective at
trapping heat in an atmosphere, and is being added to the atmosphere faster than Venus can naturally
remove it. Carbon Dioxide is trapped in Venus s atmosphere due to the absence of its magnetic field,
making it easier for lighter gases to escape into outer space, and for heavier ones to be trapped like
Carbon Dioxide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it yellow coloring which make it difficult to observe the planet. Due to the thickness and composition
of Venus s atmosphere, the planet does not experience a temperature change daily or seasonally. Venus

23. The Battle Of The Roman Republic
As the Roman Republic found its way into the third and second centuries BC, it could not have
anticipated its level of military engagement nor the number of conflicts it would find itself in over the
next two hundred years. A series of wars allowed the Roman Republic to consolidate power on the
Italian peninsula, emerge as a major force in the Mediterranean area, and lay the groundwork for what
eventually would become the Empire. The series of wars Rome fought had profound impacts on the
political, economic, social and cultural areas of Roman life. Ultimately Rome would emerge as a
powerhouse city with a thriving political system within it, dominate the economic situation in the
region before extending further, and saw the dramatic change of Roman society as it experienced a
cultural influx from foreigners. The series of wars in response to Pyrrhus invasion and the rebellion of
Italian tribes would ultimately lead to the unification of the Republic on the peninsula, as well as
secure a period of reprieve from foreign invasion forces. The recently defeated Samnite tribe in central
Italy resented Roman control and when tensions between the Tarentines and Romans escalated, they
would play a major role in the civil unrest and eventual war. The Romans decision to develop a navy
was met with harsh and immediate response from Tarentum, who also called upon King Pyrrhus of
Epirus to help them engage the Roman forces. Despite his superb and fairly large invasion force, the

Hagrid arrives at the shack. Before Hagrid s arrival Harry Potter was a normal boy living in a normal
world. However, that is until he is informed about Hogwarts, his famous parents. the fact that he is a

acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Originally Harry was supposed

unknown(wizard world.)

Refusal of the Call: Harry refused the call when he didn t think he could be a wizard. I think you must
have made a mistake. I don t think I can be a wizard. It was all too surreal for him from living half of
his life as an average teenage boy bullied by his family to finding out he is a wizard. It was hard for
him to grasp. His reaction is normal in a sense, but the way he reacted was due to his insecurity. In his
mind, how can he be a wizard if he couldn t protect himself(perform magic) from his Uncle Vernon,
Dudley, and Aunt Petunia.

maintained after reaching established weight loss goal should be done. Survival analysis can be used

Children cannot live up to the expectations of their parents. These expectations are often impractical
and not apt per the age .
Children are held responsible for other people s behaviour. They may be consistently blamed for the
actions and feelings of their parents.
Disapproval toward children is aimed at their entire beings or identity rather than a particular

28. Chemistry Practical on Rate of Reaction
Aim: The rate at which a reaction occurs, or takes place, is affected by various factors, such as the
temperature at which the experiment is conducted in, the pressure which is given, the surface area
which is exposed, use of catalysts, and the concentration. In this investigation, I would be
investigating the affect of surface area, or particle size, in the rate at which a reaction occurs.
Background Information: The more finely divided the solid is, the faster the reaction happens. A
powdered solid will normally produce a faster reaction than if the same mass is present as a single
lump. The powdered solid has a greater surface area than the single lump. Note: Why normally? What
exceptions can there be? Imagine a case of a very fine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And then take the powder of the same reactant and react it with equal amount of the liquid. This factor
will be manipulated by keeping the mass of both the stripe/ribbon and the powder constant. As if the
mass is different of the stripe/ribbon and the powder, the results won t be accurate. Dependent
Variable: The dependent variable in this investigation will be the time required for the reaction
between the liquid and the stripe/ribbon and the powder to be completed. Because, the investigation is
based on the affect of surface area in the rate at which reaction occurs. Constant Variable: The
constant variable in this investigation will be the temperature, pressure, concentration, catalyst, and
the amount of the reactants used. This is because, these are some of the other factors, which affect the
rate at which a reaction occurs. A rise in temperature will result in an increased rate of reaction and
vice versa. This is because the energy in the particles, which will react, will have higher energy
resulting in a higher frequency of effective collisions to take place. An increase in concentration and
pressure will also increase the rate of reaction. This is because, the reacting particles become more
crowded resulting in an increased chance of particles colliding. A catalyst is a substance that speeds up
a reaction without itself being used up. The amount of both the reactants will also be kept constant by
using the same mass of the ribbon/stripe for

29. Freedom In Ender s Game
The Vietnam War was a long, costly armed conflict that pitted the communist regime of North
Vietnam and its southern allies. The war, was increasingly unpopular at home, ending with the
withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973 and the unification of Vietnam under Communist control two years
later. More than 3 million people, including 58,000 Americans, were killed in the conflict. Scott Card
in his science fiction Ender s Game conveys that humans are free until their government needs to
protect its citizens, then drafts its young citizens into war. This government action seems to pretty
much sum up Colonel Graff s thinking, as to why he himself is involved. It is why he pushes Ender to
the boy s limits.
I agree with General Graff s approach because just as in the Vietnam War, Americans were free until
the government needed them to fight for our country. With this action, Graff takes on the limits of
human freedom because humans aren t free, ever, because the species force individuals to do
something. Early in the book, Ender pushes somewhat against this idea. Graff explains to Ender the ...

The tropical rainforest is located all around the world. For example, the Amazon Rainforest, the
Colombian Rainforest and other small rainforests located in Central America. In 1990, rainforests
were plentiful however until 2010, around an eighth of all the rainforests were cut down. The
rainforest is mostly endangered by human interaction and climate change. Forests are undergoing
deforestation and are changed into non productive forests which are forests that are cut in such a way
they produce minimal trees per year. Also, mining usually occurs in the rainforest which causes

Did you know that 100% of people who choose to not trust enchantresses when they are willing to

Golden Fleece to secure the kingdom, which is rightfully his. Now, Jason is so close to gaining the

Everyone agrees Medea is powerful, but some say that Jason should trust Medea, while others say
Jason should not trust Medea. Jason should trust Medea for these three reasons: Jason does not desire

NOT Jason s, and Jason would not be able to truthfully say that he had obtained the Golden Fleece.
However, this reason is also inadequate because Jason has a one in infinity chance of completing the
overwhelming task even with all the help he currently has. Therefore, neither the possibility of Medea
tricking Jason nor the notion that Jason needs to prove himself alone are enough to dissuade Jason

37. Risks of Just in Time Inventory Systems Essay
The Risks of Being Just In Time
The following is a guest article written by Nick Koletic, an economics specialist at UCLA. In addition
to giving a brief background on Just In Time inventory system s benefits, the article s main focus is
the risks that JIT systems face.
Just In Time inventory (JIT) is part of a production system whereby a firm vastly reduces inventory
from its production processes so that utilization of production inputs and delivery of finished products
are accomplished without incurring significant holding costs. While JIT inventory systems are quite
attractive for this reason, they are a double edged sword. And though a JIT system might even be a
necessity given the inventory demands of certain business types, ... Show more content on

Shipping the same quantity of a product to different retail outlets, for example, might not make much
sense if the demand for that good is significantly greater at one location relative to another. This
approach to delivery cost savings also facilitates decreases in aforementioned holding costs by not
overstocking certain locations with a product. The same principle holds for inputs in production; parts
are not delivered and held at production centers where they might lay idle.
Some positive externalities may also result from a firm s decision to implement a JIT system.
Suppliers of such a firm, for example, might then be able handle larger orders but fulfill them with
smaller shipments. That is to say that for any given order size, supplying a customer that utilizes JIT is
typically easier to do because individual shipments tend to be smaller for these customers and thus
tend to be less demanding of the supplier. So it might be possible for suppliers, merely by the nature of
their customers JIT system, to greatly expand their ability to fill larger orders without having to
increase production capacity.
Several factors, however, make JIT systems a risky proposition. A key concern here is the extent to
which firms are dependent upon particular suppliers under such an inventory system. For example, if a
firm were to commission a highly proprietary product to a single supplier (single suppliers being
common in JIT), a JIT

38. Speech On Video Games
Since the first video games were developed in the 1950 the gaming industry haven t looked back
since. Throughout the century video games has gone through a huge development where the entire
planet spend more than 3 billion hours a week playing video games. In the speech Online Harassment
and Cyber Mobs Anita Sarkeesian, who is a female gamer, talks about the stereotypes of gaming. The
type of people who don t think women should be a part of the gamer world. A world, which is
dominated by men and where online harassment of the other gender is something we see everyday.
This is the stereotype Sarkeesian talks about and this is the stereotype she tries to get rid of.

Many gamers felt that the accusations made against them were unfair and therefore we need to see it
from two sides, Saarkeesian side and the gamer s side. From a gamers point of view many people will
argue that Sarkeesian s journalistic integrity isn t so reliable and here is why: At the beginning of the
speech Sarkeesian tells us about how she always used to play games since she was 10 years old, but
this isn t entirely true. Because Sarkeesian actually admit during an interview with a professor called
Melanie that she don t play videogames at all. But then again Sarkeesian talks to an audience, who is
already taking her side of the story, so her integrity isn t on the line here. Its therefore important to

39. Anselm s Ontological Argument Paper
In this paper, I will deliver a reconstruction of Anselm s Ontological argument for the existence of
God, and its adequacy for the existence of the greatest conceivable being. I will establish this by
proving that Anselm s premises are sound and that the deductive arguments follow through a valid
conclusion.
Prior to reconstructing the argument, I will inspect the a priori ontological argument, an argument that
is solely justified through reasoning alone and based upon concepts and logical relations. To begin
with, Anselm introduces the fool , one that denies the existence of a greater conceivable being. He
argues that this fool understands what is conceived but does not believe it to actually exist. The fool
merely conceives of such a being to exist in his mind, because he has been told of its existence.
Anselm adopts the fool s understanding of God s existence to prove his a priori argument, as if God
exists in the understanding alone, but can be conceived to exist in reality, then God must exist in
reality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To portray this, he depicts how something can exist in the mind, but also reality. To further explain
this, the analogy of a painter is exemplified. Before a painter illustrates his masterpiece, the painter
has an understanding in his mind, yet knows it not to exist; the painter only understands it as a
concept. However, upon completion of the masterpiece, the painter will come to understand that the
concept exists in his mind, as he had the visual of the painting before he had constructed it, and also in
reality, because the painting can now be seen in reality, and can be understood to

40. European Fascination With The Acquisition And Exploitation
European fascination with the acquisition and exploitation of territory began centuries before King
Leopold II of Belgium s birth. The Portuguese were among the first Europeans to explore and settle
territories in Africa in the 15th century, arriving in the Congo in 1482 (Hochschild, p. 7). The newly
arrived Europeans built missions, and began to take part in the slave trade that was already established
in the region. Although African rulers took part in the slave trade, the scale of it was not as large and
systematic as the one that European involvement quickly developed it into. Methods similar to those
applied in the Congo during the reign of King Afonso became common practice throughout portions
of Africa during the ensuing centuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a king of a small country with no public interest in colonies...a colonial push of his own would
require a strong humanitarian veneer (Hochschild, p. 42). In order for civilized western countries to
allow for Leopold to conquer territory in Africa, he would have to do it in the name of philanthropy. In
the 19th century, Christian ideals such as moral empire the religious duty to bring modern civilization
to undeveloped countries were popular among the general public (Hochschild, p.213). Knowing this,
Leopold decided that he would use curbing the slave trade, moral uplift, and the advancement of
science in his pitch to colonize Africa; not profits (Hochschild, p. 42). Leopold held a Geographical
Conference in Brussels in 1876 to discuss bringing civilization to Africa, using the guise of a
humanitarian effort to hide his true intentions. The outcome of the conference was the creation of the
International African Association, of which he was elected chairman. This was the first of a series of
seemingly altruistic ventures that allowed for Leopold to claim territory in Africa, and in the decades
after that first achievement Leopold engaged in many other faux philanthropic pursuits. Leopold
utilized well positioned political allies to imply that he was building infrastructure in the Congo, gave
interviews discussing his Christian duty to help the native peoples, financed his operations by selling
bonds under the pretext of assisting Africans, and

Although the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts collection holds many treasures from a variety of
eras and cultures, three pertained most to this course. Within the Ancient World exhibit, a Cycladic
Idol, a Roman copy of Greek artist Praxiteles s statue of Aphrodite, and a Red figure Krater are on
display. All three artworks trace the progression of Greek culture and the later Romans who imitated
much of Greek culture and art. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, or MFA, is curated both by
era and by culture. For example, the Ancient World room contains art from a particular time period
and a variety of cultures; however, the Art of the Americas room is made up of art from a specific
culture over a large amount of time. All of the works mentioned above were placed within the Ancient
World room. The curator chose to place the statue of Aphrodite on a pedestal in the center of the room,
so it is the first thing visitors see when they enter the room. To its right, the Cycladic idol and other
sculptures from the ancient world are on display. At the other end of the room, a collection of Ancient

43. Wells Fargo Case Summary
Introduction
Wells Fargo was established in 1852 by Henry Wells and Williams Fargo who joined a group of other
investors to form a transportation and banking company. In 1849, gold was discovered in California,
which encouraged a huge demand for its cross country shipping and by 1852 Wells Fargo shipped its
first consignment of gold. Wells Fargo also established merger deals with Pony expresses which made
them one of the pioneers of pony transportation. This company later expanded to a company that
offered not just pony and gold transportation services, but also offered banking services by purchasing
gold and selling paper bank drafts as good as gold. In 1905, the banking branch of the company
merged with the Nevada National Bank and established its new headquarters in San Francisco. ( Wells

Until the intent or motive is recognized, a problem cannot be described or solved. This should be a
major question to ask in the Wells Fargo case. Most workers, especially in sales and marketing jobs
are known to be compensated and promoted based on their performances (number of products and
services sold, number of set targets met). So it is possible that Wells Fargo compensation and
promotion structure motivated these employees to engage in such fraudulent acts in order to boost
their incentives and bonuses which was measured based on their performance. Because it is surprising
that such huge number of employees would engage in such acts to cheat customers for a period of five
years. Both former and current Wells Fargo employees told regulators that their motivation to open
unauthorized accounts was because of the compensation policies and felt extreme pressure to do that
to benefit from such policies (Corkery

There are several soil results might happen after the tree removal in this case, from limited influence
to significant damage. As this case just mentioned the site soil classification of this reclaimed land is
H1 but not mention the soil type. If it s sandy area, removal trees might cause less damage to the soil
because sand does not swell or shrink with changes in moisture (Victorian building authority, 2015).
However, if these trees are used to take more moisture from the underground water system in clay soil
land, the tree removal land will become more wet or dry due to the different surrounding agricultural
situation. For example, if there are heavy rainy after the tree removal and there are no other trees or
shrubs around the site, too much accumulated water will stay on the hole and change the clay soils to
be more reactive. On the other hand, if there are other big trees and shrubs around the site, the extra
moisture will be absorbed by these trees and the site soil is going to be dry. Thus, the classification of
the soil will be changed and it lead to change the footing construction system as well. All in all, tree
conditions should be considered before the removal and a more careful site filling and cleaning jobs
should be

The Last Supper is his meal before he is crucified. While he was in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus
prays to his father to give him the strength to go through with his will. While there Jesus is betrayed
by Judas and is arrested. Judas betrays Jesus for a sack of coins, he feels bad after and he hangs
himself. This connects to the time that Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden. Jesus being the new
Adam who disobeyed God does not disobey God when Judas Eve is tempted by Satan. Jesus is
stripped of his garments and crucified on the mountain of Calvary. His crucifixion is the fulfillment
told by the prophets. His crucifixion showed his last words, his suffering, his love for his mother, and
his trust in his divine Father. He died for our sins.
Jesus death is recognized during Easter week , Easter is the day of Jesus rising from the dead. His

46. Love Song With Two Goldfish Essay
As coined by the Father of His Country, It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company. This is
doubly appropriate as love is nothing more than a series of traumatic and disappointing events. Certain
authors utilize their works to portray love from their perspective and/or experience. In Love Song,
with Two Goldfish by Grace Chua, the author illustrates rejection in the most heartbreaking way
possible. In the poem What Love Isn t by Yrsa Daley Ward, she depicts love as unbearable and somber
rather than the joyful and wholesome experience consistently shown throughout pop culture. In the
short story, Was It a Dream? by Guy de Maupassant, the narrator grieves the loss of his beloved only
to have his feelings of woe amplified by betrayal. Through their illustrations, the authors show that
love is an extraordinary experience that is often filled with pain, distrust, and despair. ... Show more

One may have feelings for another; it is natural. When faced with rejection, however, the result is
ruinous. In the poem, Love Song, with Two Goldfish , a goldfish was infatuated with another fish.
However, the former was rejected because he could not give a life beyond the bowl. She rejected him
because of the rash promises he had made, something that made the latter miserable. He expected joy,
but was met with pain. Intolerance is common among relationships as most don t see them as a
pleasure, but more of a detriment. In the poem, What Love Isn t , Ward reflects on her experience with
love and how much it irritated her. She says, it is weight and it is too heavy to feel good sometimes. It
is discomfort. Instead of the passion and happiness one experiences in a relationship, Ward had none
of it and only went through pain. The pressure of such a romance gave her unneeded agony. While
love is depicted as a passionate and beautiful experience, it is a painful one filled with rejection and

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka can be interpreted in many different ways. Considering the story
from a psychological perspective, one could compare reading The Metamorphosis to a psychiatrist or
psychologist listening to their patient converse about their day, or life. In Jerome S. Gans analysis
Narrative Lessons for the Psychotherapist, he compares the effect the author s story has on the
therapist reader versus the effect that the patient s narrative has on the therapist (Gans 352). Gans

consulting a patient. A different reader may have a different view or opinion on the book, whereas a
