Sport and Exercise Are Good for Your Health’
Sport and exercise are good for your health Introduction The saying sport and exercise are good for
your health appears at first to be an irrefutable fact. However in this assignment I am going to look the
information and facts that agree with this statement, and then compare and contrast with the
information that disagrees. To begin it would seem logical to define the words in the statement to gain
better understanding of their meaning. Sport has several meanings, such as one being a good sport by
showing honesty and respect even when defeated but for the purposes of this essay sport will be
defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes
against another or others (Oxford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with the obesity epidemic exercise has been proven to improve an individual s mental state. When
carrying out any form of strenuous exercise the pituitary gland in the brain releases chemicals called
endorphins. Exercise can lead to an improved mood, a feeling of euphoria often called the runners
high (Peak Performance, 2008). It has also been proven to increase neurogenesis, the creation of new
neurons in the hippocampus in the brain. Studies have shown that humans begin to lose nerve tissue at
approximately 30 years of age. The effect exercise has on the brain increases neural connections,
creating a denser network so we are able to process and store information. It has also been shown to
initiate brain derived neurotrophic factor or BDNF that acts as a protective response to stress and
improve synaptic plasticity which improves the efficiency of signal transmission between neurons.
This transfer is generally considered the basis for learning and memory (McGovern, 2005). Looking at
the information presented there is far more support to show exercise is more beneficial than it is
detrimental to an individual s health. The negative implications could become apparent when an
individual does not fully understand the way the body reacts or responds to exercise. The saying too
much of a good thing (Shakespeare, 1623) comes in to play when planning a programme of exercise.

The And New England Colonies
Everyone has an external force that motivates them in some way that allows them to be able to go
about their everyday lives and fulfill their ambitions. Within the years of 1580 and 1763 this force
took the form of God. Around this same time was when the Chesapeake and New England colonies
were in the process of being founded. As a result, these two settlements did nothing without
referencing their actions to God. Due to this heavy focus on God as the reason behind every aspect of
their lives, chaos began to sprout soon after the settlers began settling and started living their new lives
in the colonies. Since the colonist believed that God dictated their entire lives; they never felt that they
were in the wrong. Not once did the colonists stop to think that they had no right to steal the natives
land. If God had not smitten them, then they thought that God approved of what they were doing. In
this case, the colonists were in the process of acquiring land that the earth bringeth foorth all things in
aboundance, as in the first creation, without toile or labour... the most plentifull, sweete, fruitfull, and
wholesome [soil] of all the world . The new land that the colonists wanted to take appeared similar to
the Garden of Eden. Since they successfully made their voyage to the new land, it looked as if God
allowed them to enter a land similar to one of his own. If God gave the colonists access to the land,
then wouldn t that mean that the colonists were entitled to the land

The Treatment Of Young Victims Of Child Sexual Abuse
Abstract
The treatment of young victims of child sexual abuse can be demanding for the victim, the victim s
family, and the counselor. The trauma associated with the abuse and the time it may take the child to
heal can become very overwhelming. There are barriers, such as a lack of family support and lack of
disclosure, which may block victims of child sexual abuse from successful treatment. Overcoming
these barriers and incorporating multiple methods of treatment can be beneficial for the victim.
Specifically, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and relational cultural play therapy with
additional resources have proven effective in including family support and in defeating the fears of
victims of child sexual abuse.
McPherson, Scribano, and Stevens (2012) defined child sexual abuse as, engaging a child in sexual
activities that the child cannot comprehend, for which the child is developmentally unprepared and
cannot give informed consent (p. 27). The number of affected women in the United States is about
26% and the number of affected men is 16% (Perez Fuentas, Olfson, Villegas, Morcillo, Wang,
Blanco, 2013). However, as all crimes go, not every single case has been reported. Whether reported
or not, child sexual abuse is a very serious crime that can affect the victims tremendously. Retrieving
counseling for these victims of child sexual abuse is substantial in helping the child live a fruitful live
post abuse. Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy as

Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald deals on one level with Jay Gatsby s hopes and dreams, but
on a deeper level also deals with the Great American Dream. The novel starts and ends with a
reference to the green light at the end of the dock, indicating an important symbolism. The first time
Nick catches sight of Jay Gatsby, Gatsby stretched his arms towards the dark water [...] [Nick]
distinguished nothing except a single green light [...] that might have been at the end of a dock.
(Fitzgerald 2000:25). Fitzgerald ends the novel by again referring to the green light at the end of Daisy
s dock. (171).
The protagonist of the novel is Jay Gatsby, a wealthy young man from the Midwest, who has moved
to the New York in the East to pursue his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The green light at the end of Daisy s dock also symbolises the inability to control time, the
irretrievability of the past and the futility of trying to recreate the past, despite Gatsby s belief to the
contrary. When Nick asserts that one can t repeat the past, he exclaims: Can t repeat the past? [...] Why
of course you can! (106). Gatsby naively believes that Daisy can erase the past by simply telling Tom
that she never loved him. He tells Nick that [he s] going to fix everything the way it was before (106)
and that he and Daisy would be married from her house just as if it were five years ago. (106).
The similarity between Gatsby s dream and the Great American dream is a central theme of the novel.
People pursue their dreams, regardless of the cost to themselves and others, with little regard for the
attainability and reality of the dream. In Gatsby s case, his dream eventually costs him his life.
Similarly, the singleminded pursuit of wealth and pleasure eventually costs people their lives, if not in
the literal sense, then in the moral sense.

What Is The Treaty Of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles resembles more of a forceful ultimatum than a peace treaty between nations.
The United States president Woodrow Wilson himself privately admitted that he would have refused
to sign the Treaty of Versailles if he were a German (1). Although, the Treaty of Versailles was meant
to be the core of the peace settlement after World War I it did very little in serving as a peace treaty.
Possibly because the Germans input were not asked for during the negotiations of the Treaty of
Versailles, furthermore, the Germans had only two options; sign the treaty and be oppressed by the
terms and conditions or do not sign and face invasion that would lead to a war that they were not
capable of winning. The treaty caused great resentment

The Importance Of Safe Sex In America
The reason why high risk sex still occurs among the well educated reasonably affluent Americans is
because in the heat of the moment they tend not to think about it. It s more that they think about the
lust and passion they re having for the other person that is distracting their mind even if they re
knowledgeable on the subject of safe sex. I believe that people should really focus on protecting
themselves from diseases by keeping protection always on you if you feel that it s likely that you will
end up in a eventful night that day. Education plays a huge role in educating children around their teen
years and above about how they can protect themselves from sexual transmitted diseases, and what
they are. Studies has shown that a well implemented

The Nature Of Face Processing Impairments
PY3003 Autistic Spectrum Disorders
What is the nature of face processing impairments in autism?
Student ID: 1310023
Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are
processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have
found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et
al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka,
2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed.
Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory
mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010).
Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls
could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people
process faces in a qualitatively different manner.
Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or
possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and
affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could
ameliorate these difficulties. Understanding of the deficits causes is only possible in the context of
typical face

The Main Difficulties With Multi Agency Partnerships
What are the main difficulties with multi agency partnerships in safeguarding children? Discuss with
reference to social science literature and official reports.
Safeguarding children can best be described as an action taken to promote the welfare of children and
protect them from harm, this involves protecting children from abuse and maltreatment and preventing
harm to children s health or development. (NSPCC, 2016).
Multi agency partnerships in safeguarding children look to identify the goals, circumstances and needs
of children, agencies must agree with both the contribution each agency will have Ensuring it meets
the every child matters guidelines, the main aims are to improve the sharing of information between
the agencies and Oversee arrangements for agencies to work collaboratively in the commissioning,
delivery and integration of services. (Cheminais R, 2009:2).
There are many benefits to working within a multi agency partnership, it not only allows for
professional views from different professionals from a variety of different professions but it also
allows for an individual to receive specifically tailored help top overcome their own situations in
regards to health and welfare, However despite the benefits to multi agency partnerships in
safeguarding children there are many difficulties that need to be acknowledged.
This essay will use case studies with reference to social science literature and official reports to further
explain and discuss the difficulties

RELATIONSHIPS THESE DAYS
In a world characterized by loneliness, alienation, and isolation, admirable relationships have become
increasingly rare. Today we have social media, but the noticeable part is Facebook posts tweets and
blogs just seem to provide more opportunities to display how dysfunction we really are?
Networking might be increasing the number of those with whom we are connected but those
connected are more superficial. Our physical presence has been replaced by texts, voice messages,

A Study On The Protective Immunity
In this study, the CRPV/HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model was used to assess the protective immunity
generated by DNA vaccines delivered using the gene gun, the tattoo gun or the microneedle system.
The focus was to determine whether the tattoo gun and the microneedle delivery systems were useful
DNA vaccination alternatives to the gene gun. Our laboratory has successfully utilized the gene gun in
our DNA vaccination studies for both protective and therapeutic purposes (17,34). However, the gene
gun system is costly, and we are constantly looking for alternatives to back up our vaccine
development program. Tattoo gun has been reported to deliver a DNA vaccine successfully in both
mice and non human primates (21 23). Compared with the gene gun and microneedle, tattoo gun
delivery is more cost effective but more invasive which generates trauma and scars the vaccinated
tissues. Microneedle delivery has achieved comparable protection in mice with twice the dose of gene
gun delivery (24 ). However, no studies have been attempted in rabbits for DNA vaccination with
either a tattoo gun or a microneedle. In the current study, we compared the gene gun with the tattoo
gun as well as the tattoo gun with microneedle DNA vaccine delivery using our well studied DNA
epitope vaccines and our unique HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model (39). Read out was tumor
outgrowth rates and tumor size. We demonstrated that these two novel DNA delivery systems can be

from Mexico because the Texans had trouble being a part of Mexico and wanted their own
independence because the Texans had objected Mexico s way of governing. The Texans were justified
in declaring their independence, and they were honorable men fighting for their freedom. One reason
is that the government had not exactly listened to the Texans. Another reason is that the Texans should

The Lovely Bones Symbolism Essay
Susie lies there motionless while a large, corpulent man moves on top of her. She tries to escape by
thinking of her mother calling her for dinner or her baby brother trying to show her a picture. Yet, no
matter how hard she attempts to remove her mind from the situation, Susie cannot ignore the great,
shining kitchen knife now looming over her. In this opening scene from The Lovely Bones by Alice

narrator, is murdered at the young age of fourteen by her sinister neighbor, Mr. Harvey. Susie then
reports on the happenings on Earth from a place she calls, the Inbetween a kind of purgatory that
insists Susie and her family find closure. Throughout the novel, Sebold uses the cornfield, the
Salmons porch light, and an icicle as major symbols to help develop the setting and the characters.
The first symbol readers are introduced to is the cornfield, a setting representative of loss. Before Mr.

Poverty Is The Problem Of Poverty
Poverty is the issue that many countries are facing and try to figure out a method for managing
poverty in order to ensure the wellbeing of their citizens, Developed countries like Australia is also
confronting a destitution issue in their citizen. Poverty can be characterized from various perspectives,
which depend on each country s standard. Here, poverty can be defined as an economic condition of
lacking both money and basic necessities needed to successful in life, particularly for those who are
socioeconomically and educationally disadvantaged. As a matter of fact, all around the world,
indigenous people are the underprivileged groups in terms of economy, society and education
compared to their counterparts on the range of social indicators. International research has been
discovered that one of the most disadvantaged groups in the world is Indigenous Australians (Cooke,
Mitrou, Lawrences, Guimond, Bravoing, 2007; Hill, Barker, Vos, 2007; Ring Brown, 2003). For this
situation, Australian governments are finding the solution to poverty by establishing many policies
and programs. this essay will demonstrate that education is considered to be a long term solution for
poverty and current policies and programs for disadvantaged groups in Australia will be evaluated.

the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in
the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly

effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its

Pope Pius XII s Neutrality Essay
Is it possible for a Pope to be infallible? When one looks at events, such as the Holocaust, the answer
of this question becomes twofold. Were Pope Pius XII s actions an attempt to save the Catholic
Church from persecutions or were they a lack of understanding of Hitler s ethnic cleansing? Nearly six
million Jews were slaughtered during the Holocaust, and when the world became aware of the mass
murders that were taking place in Europe, World War II became a moral obligation rather than a fight
for power. The Allied powers, Nazi resistance group, and even some Catholic groups invaded
Germany to not only save Jews, but also to force the Nazis out of power in Germany. Surprisingly, the

If the BVP could be diminished, the Nazi Party would be able to grow and eventually gain complete
control of Germany. By 1937, the German government violated the Reich Concordat of 1933. Pius XI,
with help from Cardinal Michael Faulhaber and editing by Pacelli, wrote Mit Brennender Sorge, an
encyclical read to all German churches on Palm Sunday of 1937 in response to the German violations
(Sanchez 17). This encyclical objected to the German government abuse of the Reich Concordat and
criticized the Nazi doctrines of racism and statism (Mit Brennender). There were no further actions
made regarding Germany s infraction of the agreement. Two years later and just before the outbreak of
World War II, in February 1939, Pope Pius XI died. Cardinal Pacelli was then elected Pope and
became Pope Pius XII. Due to his previous anti Nazi ideals, the future Allied powers were confident
that Pius XII would fully support their part in WWII; however, Pope Pius XII would remain neutral
throughout the war (Sanchez 17). At the beginning of his papacy, Pius XII told Vatican officials that to

international trade agreements in the future, but the global activity will likely be characterized by
varying standards and improved enforcement, reflecting evolution in social, cultural and political
attitudes, and a deeper understanding of the relationships among innovation, creation and the more
efficient distribution of intellectual property. Increased cooperation might occur at the governance
level. Many of the fast and unprecedented changes in intellectual property law and policy over the past
two decades are due to their intersection with international trade and the numerous international trade
agreements negotiated and brought into force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Underlying this activity are changes to intellectual property rights laws and policies. The following are
the major enforcement inadequacies in the protection of intellectual property rights: No preliminary or
final injunctive relief, lack of seizure and impoundment relief, lack of exclusion of infringing imports,
lack of compulsory court process and/or discovery, inadequate civil remedies, usually in monetary
dam ages, limits on recoveries preclude deterrent effects, fine or other criminal penalties inadequate,
unreasonably slow enforcement process during which illegal activity continues, enforcement officials
systematically discriminate against foreigners, training and resources for enforcement inadequate,
court decisions biased or political, and corruption. The efforts to protect intellectual property rights
suffer from three major problems: institutional issues, philosophical issues, and handling of new
technologies. The institutional issues refer to the shortcomings of existing regimes and their
enforcement. To begin with, the signatories to specific agreements are limited. Thus, countries that are
not a part of the agreement do not have to subscribe to its provisions. Further, the agreements lack
enforcement powers. In addition, the agreements per se are limited

Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland Essay
Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland, introduces the question, Do resources like diamonds, drugs,
and state sponsors turn insurgent groups into thuggish people or do they help build a more disciplined
organization? The reason this question is asked is because in some cases it suggests that resource
wealth encourages the degeneration of armed groups into greed and criminality and other evidence
shows that external sponsorship and criminal activity can help leaders build organizations in the face
of state repression (p.142). This question is being presented because with different insurgent groups
like the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hizbul Mujahidden, having very similar
interactions with state sponsors, could have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the article Staniland states The Taliban s ability to create and maintain both central and local
institutions was facilitated by its access to an overlapping social base of Islamists linked to one
another through camps and schools of western Pakistan while remaining embedded in local
communities (p.171). Within this passage, it explains that because of the basis of the Islamist religion,
the insurgent group was able to spread throughout Pakistan making the Taliban stronger. Similarly to
the Taliban, in having a strong basis, are the rebels of Darfur. Before the Darfur genocide occurred, the
conflict originally began as an insurgency group against the government. Rebel groups drew from
main African tribes of Darfur because they were being oppressed by governmental policies and were
looking for a change. The goal of theses rebels was to assert the social, economic and political rights
of all the people of Darfur; this goal was likely to resonate with the majority of the population, making
the insurgency stronger. Just like the Taliban, the rebels in Darfur had a goal in mind that represented a
basis that resonated with the majority of the population making them stronger and explaining why
they were such a threat to the government. Subsequently, the basis of the insurgency also has
something to do with the effects resources, such as diamonds,

Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place
on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for
seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with
rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they
were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type
of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only
one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until
she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire
lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her
past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked
as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the
red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album,
whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story
by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really
are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her
classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a
person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her
classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This
makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are
uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the
classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came
out, one of the rare events that Margot was greatly looking forward to, the classmates ...surged about

Vietnam Memorial Dbq
Vietnam Memorial Rough Draft
The Vietnam War was gruesome and it was terrible for the United States. A little after the war ended,
there was a contest for the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. Maya Lin was chosen as the
designer of the memorial, but John Carhart has some problems with her design. After reading Carhart
s article, he does make some good points about the memorial, but others are not quite right.
The Vietnam Memorial is a very effective memorial. The main goal of Maya Lin for choosing this
design is for everyone that goes there is to resolve and come to terms with their losses. It is a quiet
place meant for personal reflection and private reckoning (Source D). This is why she chose the
simple, clean design of it being black with white letters. Black can be considered a very depressing
color, so it adds to the effect and the feeling that this memorial should give someone. The thing that
makes it very special is that it honors the dead instead of the living. This memorial has every single
name of a fallen soldier that fought in the Vietnam War. Also, the design is good because it is different
from all the other memorials in D.C. Every other memorial recognizes the great ... Show more content

John Carhart said, The jurors know nothing of the real war in Vietnam the television portrayal was far
from adequate. The net result is that the design the jury chose as the winner was necessarily a function
of their perception of the war they lived through in America (Source E). There were really two wars
going on at this point. The first one was a military war fought in Vietnam and the other was a political
war going on here at home (Source E). When the civilians who voted for the memorial, they only
knew and experienced the political war. If veterans would have chosen the design, it would not be this
one. People who lived through the war, like John Carhart, should have chosen what the design would

The Poetry Of An Author
Many critics of poetry are of the opinion to approach the poems or works of an author ignoring or
disregarding their biographical features , as if did not influence at all on the design and creation of his
poems . While it is true that some sepsis can help when it comes to not fall into false interpretations or
twisted and complicated analogies , which amounts to combine meanings of certain verses to personal
circumstances experienced by its author, it is no less true that a good biographical knowledge of vital
events of the authors can greatly help clear this or that dark side that we find in a poem or a work, the
reasons why the title of one form or another or even the way they were ordered poems.
In the case that concerns us Sylvia Plath I could not shake that biographism; What s more, thanks to
him I met the poetry of this woman who, otherwise, would never have aroused my curiosity. So,
biographical circumstance for some critics is almost like a curse. It has been the key element that led
me to the poetry of this woman. My first approach to Sylvia Plath came after seeing the film Sylvia (a
biopic, to increase my biographer fault) starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig in the role of the
poet and her husband respectively. Already knowing the tragic end of Sylvia Plath, was the suicide
scene in that movie that led me to delve into his life and therefore in his work . Sylvia s life had an end
for me very attractive: suicide. It was from there, motivated by the

PARENTAL INTRUSION Parental intrusion in youth sports is nothing new. There will always be
adults who act inappropriately or disrupt the league. A lot of the problems lie with adults who use
youth sports to gratify their own egos, adults who can t deal with the emotional ups and downs of
youth sports and there are even those who see the time and money spent on their child as an

However, when we talk about youth sports, our main concern is with providing players with a
positive, character building experience. Winning is not the only acceptable outcome for youth players,
and coaches need to understand this principle. With a winning philosophy young athletes may lose out
on opportunities to develop their skills, to enjoy participation, and to grow socially and emotionally.
Well informed coaches realize that success is not equivalent to winning games, and failure is not the
same as losing. (Enhancing Coach Parent Relationships in Youth Sports, 15)
Sadly, dealing with unreasonable, loud, obnoxious parents can be the most challenging part of
coaching. Many coaches just want to make a difference in young lives instead of having to deal with
the extra baggage of a high strung parent. If a parent does not like what you are doing as a coach, then
there is no reason that parent can t become a coach. One of the most difficult problems in coaching
youth sports is dealing with an irate parent, but this problem can be diminished by holding parent
meetings before and during the season. (Put Em In Coach, 33)
So when it comes to specifically handling those situations where parents become unruly, whether it is

The evidence for genetic contribution to individual intelligence are (1) Family studies indicate that
intelligence occurs in families, (2) Twin studies illustrate a greater link within identical twins in IQ
than between non identical, or fraternal , twins. This is true even when identical twins raised apart are
contrasted with fraternal twins reared together. (3) Adoption studies suggest that adopted children are

So, twin studies suggest that genes play a very important role, but are not the only factor, since if they
were; the correlation between identical twins would be 1.
Identical twins raised in separate environments are almost as similar in g measurements as those raised
together. Adopted children and their adoptive parents have a g correlation of zero, of course, while
adopted children and their biological parents are likely to have the same correlations as any parent
child set. So although genes do not seem to be the sole factor mediating intelligence, their effects do
seem to be unvarying and likely not superseded by environment.
In this way, twin studies give psychologists greater insight into the role of genes in intelligence.
Critics of twin studies suggest that twin similarities may be a result of chance rather than evidence of
heredity at work. Also, because adopted twin children tend to be placed in similar settings, critics
suggest that the trait similarities may be a matter of comparable experience rather than one of heredity.
Adoption studies allow psychologists to decide on the influence of genetics and environment on
human development by determining whether adopted children are more like their biological parents,
who provide their genetic makeup, or their adoptive parents, who provide the environmental
influences. These studies show that

Unfulfilled Dreams Exposed in Hughes Harlem Essay
Unfulfilled Dreams Exposed in Hughes s Harlem
Most of us have dreams that we one day hope to fulfill. They could be little dreams that will take little
time and effort to accomplish, or they could be big dreams that will take more time and energy to
fulfill. Nevertheless, whether one s dream is as mundane as hitting the numbers or as noble as hoping
to see one s children reared properly, each dream is equally important to the person who has it (Bizot
904). Each dream is also equally painful when it is taken away; or if we never have the opportunity to

For some of the words, he uses the dictionary meaning, yet for others he uses the connotative
meaning. When Hughes uses a word connotatively, he wants the reader to receive a deeper meaning
than the dictionary definition would give. For example, the word deferred in Harlem means
unfulfilled. The dictionary meaning, however, is to postpone. In the dictionary, postpone means will
happen at a later date or time. However, the dreams that Hughes refers to are ones that will never
come true.
Hughes also uses the connotative meaning for the word fester (line 4). The dictionary meaning is to
form pus, yet this definition does not seem strong enough for the emotion the word is trying to
express. The word fester in the poem means to become a source of pain or anger. This is exactly what
becomes of a person s deferred dream. It becomes painful because that dream never leaves the person
s mind. The person might forget about it for a little while and go on with his or her life, but like most
painful memories, it will pop up when the person least expects it to.
Each line in the poem Harlem gives an imaginative description of what a person with a deferred dream
can become. Since this poem does not define or give examples of the dream, we ll have to make up
our own (901). Lines two and three ask, Does it dry up / like a raisin in the sun? We know that a

Primary Effusion Lymphoma
Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is caused by clonal expansion of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8;
also known as Kaposi s sarcoma associated herpesvirus) infected B cells (Nador et al., 1996). HHV8
is an oncogenic herpesvirus that pathogenically infects endothelial cells and B lymphocytes. Besides,
PEL is also implicated in the pathogenesis of Kaposi s sarcoma and multicentric Castleman s disease
(Carbone et al., 2009; Cai et al., 2010).
The replicative cycle of HHV8 exists as latency and lytic replication. During latency only a restricted
subset of viral transcripts is expressed, (including LANA, v FLIP, and v cyclin) that contribute to
HHV8 associated malignancies by the manipulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis (Cesarman et

There are ample evidences that show potential chemotherapeutic efficacy of EGCG against cancers of
the skin, lung, breast, colon, liver, stomach and prostate (Kanwar et al., 2012). EGCG is auto oxidized
in both cells and culture media, and the oxidized EGCG induces apoptosis in cells. Recent studies
demonstrate that EGCG can induce the preferential death in cancer cells is due to the cancer specific
induction of ROS (reactive oxygen species) (Min et al., 2012). EGCG was also shown to block EBV
induced transformation and the expression of viral lytic proteins (Chang et al., 2003; Choi et al.,
2009). However, the effects of EGCG on PEL cells and HHV8 replication in PEL cells have not yet
been reported.
In this study, we investigated the antitumor and antiviral activity of EGCG against human primary
effusion lymphoma cells. Our data demonstrate that EGCG induces cell death of PEL cells via a
mechanism involving generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). We also examined the effects of
EGCG on HHV8 replication and reactivation. Even though EGCG induced ROS generation in PEL
cells, it reduced the production of progeny virus from PEL cells without causing HHV8 reactivation.
These results suggest that EGCG may represent a novel strategy for the treatment of HHV8 infection
and HHV8 associated

other regions of the cluster is largely unknown. An intergenic SNP (rs1015164 A/G) downstream of
the CCRL2 gene was shown to associate with HIV viral load control [6] and progression to AIDS [7]
in two independent cohorts of HIV infected patients. Importantly, the SNP showed genome wide
significant association with HIV outcomes in meta analyses that collectively examined genotyping
data from 6,315 HIV infected patients [8]. The SNP is in close genomic proximity to a non coding
RNA gene RP 11 24F11.2 (Fig. S1). We were able to detect and quantify the polyadenylated lncRNA
transcript in the total RNA from peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) using quantitative PCR
(qPCR). Specificity of the primers was confirmed by sequencing of the amplicons. We designated this
lncRNA as Lnc11.2. The rs1015164A allele, which associated with higher viral loads (OR=1.4, p=3.3
×10 5) [6] and more rapid disease progression (HR=1.4, p=8.6 ×10 6) [7] correlated with higher
expression levels of Lnc11.2 in PBLs (Fig. 1).

Compare And Contrast The Dollhouse And The Fall Of The City
In the stories of The Dollhouse , by Katherine Mansfield, and The Fall of the City , by Alden Nowlan.
The two characters I am mainly focusing on are Teddy from The Fall of the City , and Lil from The
Dollhouse . These two characters were quite hard to find something in common, due to the different
time periods, and how Lil is not the main character in her story. But there are a few similarities with
both these stories. The reasons why i choose this story is that there are definitely some things that
there is a common ground. And also the challenge of finding those common grounds in these two
stories. My for connection I made from these story is that they are both lonely. We see that they don t
have entertainment given to them by their

Essay A Sorrowful Woman
A Sorrowful Woman The story that is A Sorrowful Woman seems to be a story told from the point of
view of a narrator who focuses only slightly on the inner conflict of one of the main charters in the
story. The character of which I am speaking is never referred to by name, instead is called she, the
woman, mommy, and wife throughout the entire story which lends credence to the conclusion of the
viewpoint as being told from the outside. The first indication that the focus of the story will be not of a
warm and loving nature is the line The sight of them made her so sad and sick she did not want to see
them again (1). This is where a hypothesis can begin to be formed as to who the antagonist of the story
is, bearing the statement above in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then in the next line there is no mention of the woman speaking to the child or acknowledging that
the child ever spoke to her. The purposeful shunning of the child by the woman is appalling and
baffling at the same time. The child in the story is an innocent, wanting to please and gain
acknowledgement and love from the very woman that is sickened by the very sight of the child. The
mysterious reasons for the shunning of the child can be guessed at in committee, but without more
history as to reasoning: the idea of the woman seeing the child as the one reason for her illness is the
most conclusive idea to be had. A supporting clause for the woman being ever more resentful of the
child is the description given when during the course of play, the woman is scratched enough to draw
a small bead or two of blood, One of his sharp little claws ripped her flesh, just above the wrist... a
thin red line materialized on the inside of her pale arm and spill over with tiny beads (6). The reaction
to this was not to grimace and clean her arm or to take time to trim the child s finger nails to prevent
such from happening again. Instead the woman says clearly Go away (6). Then lock herself away from
the child. No explanation or reason given to the child but to ignore and satisfy vengeance towards
what the woman views as something that

There Should Be Guidelines To Human Experimentation
The modern understanding of medicine was created by the many people who were subjected to
medical testing without their consent. There should be guidelines to human experimentation. Human
experimentation should only be performed on consenting adults that understand what is going to
happen. In other words, the doctors should get informed consent from their patients. There have been
many unethical human experimental trials performed on people that had no idea what was happening
to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been different guidelines
and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki.
An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. This
happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in 1932. The men that were in the
trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399 men had syphilis beforehand and 201
did not. Funding was cut for the experiments but they still continued to study these men even though
the antibiotic penicillin had come out in 1947. They told the men that they had something called bad
blood and they refused to tell the men that they had syphilis. This trial was continued until 1972 when

Thomas Jefferson Pirates Chapter Summaries
Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates is about the US Tripoli War of 1801 1805 that took place
during Jefferson s presidency. The book starts off with the newly independent United States facing the
difficulties of all the states that operated in the Mediterranean faced, which was the risk of trade
disruptions and capture by the Barbary States. The first four chapters talk about the efforts and
struggles the United States faced when dealing with Barbary during the 1780s and 1790s before war
actually breaks out in chapter five.
For years and years the leaders of Tripoli which is located in the Middle East had been taking over
merchant ships from either the Americans or the or the Europeans. The Tripoli pirates would take over
ships and sell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crews from the ships would be held captive and tortured for years and months on end. The United
States tried their hardest to keep the peace in line but nothing was working. So the United States army
set off on the USS George Washington to Algerines and Tripoli to settle things. A man by the name of
Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as president in the year of 1801 and not long after he would send
warships to Tripoli and confront the pirates face to face for their doings. This caused a blockade so no
pirates would be able to attack the merchant ships. What this action would do was not what Jefferson
thought would happen but as an outcome an all out war broke loose between Jefferson s army and the
Tripoli pirates and their allies. The war would go on and on off the coast. The blockade only held for
so long. Finally the pirates would make their way through and ships started to come up on shore. The
USS Philadelphia hit shore in Tripoli s harbor and the pirates captured it. A young navy member then
snuck onto the ship and set it on fire during an enemy gun fire, destroying any goods the pirates could
get their hands on or even stop them from rebuilding the ship and turning it against the United States
Navy. The war would continue for a while until finally peace agreements were made and the U.S
Navy fled the scene. This whole action by Jefferson showed braveness in not only him but the U.S
Navy to

How Did Abigail Adams Influence Her Husband
First Lady, from 1797 to 1801. In 1800 the first First Lady to live in the White house, she resided there
for four months, arriving in November 1800. During that time she famously hung her family s laundry
in the unfinished East Room to dry. Throughout President John Adams career, his wife, Abigail
Adams, served as an unofficial adviser. On New Year s Day 1801 she opened the mansion, soon to be
known as the White House. When he was elected President Adams wrote to his wife, I never wanted
your Advice and assistance more in my life... Adams often defended her husband s positions. She
attacked was, at times, for being too much an influence on her husband s decisions. She bore all the
criticism well, but was glad to be out of the public eye ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas Jefferson defeated John Adams in his attempt to win a second term, Abigail Adams was ready
to leave politics, she was Sick, sick, sick of public life. When her husband became vice president the
next year, Abigail Adams stayed with him in the capitol for only part of the time. Often returning to
Massachusetts to look after their farm and to tend other business matters. She helped First Lady
Martha Washington with entertaining dignitaries and other officials. Of the four years her husband
served as President, Abigail Adams was actually present in the temporary capital of Philadelphia and
then, finally, the permanent Federal City, of Washington, D.C. for a total of only eighteen months. She
nonetheless made a strong impression on the press and the public. Abigail Adams couldn t help herself
from writing/saying exactly what she thought. When she looked directly at Alexander Hamilton, she
declared she had just looked into the eyes of the devil himself. Abigail Adams saw her role largely as a
hostess for the public and partisan symbol of the Federalist Party. Almost immediately, the President s
Lady became a popular target of attack. Anti Federalist Albert Gallatin shot back, dubbing her Mrs.
President, not of the United States, but a faction. However, sharp, the nickname was accurate. It would
stick with Abigail Adams for the rest of history. Wounded as she was, the remark did not make Abigail
recede in public. She was unofficially titled Lady

People And The Thai Born Talent That Hit The Fashion Runway
Thailandese Americans and the Thai born Talent that Struck the Fashion Runway Within the last few
decades, there has been a great influx of Asians who have migrated to the United States. In 1985,
Asian immigrants made up less than half of the total immigrant population, many of which have
settled in New York City and California. The selective phenomenon known as migration has been
impelled by the demographic, economic, social and psychological attributes of the location (Desbarats
305). Migration on a global scale is influenced by factors such as available alternatives to those
considering the move, how much distance is covered, ways of transportation and the state policies,
both complex and restrictive, that oversee who enters and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Occupation became the driving force for some; the numbers of professional immigration, however,
were lower than compared to other Asians. Unlike the low rate of workers, there is an increasing
number of Thai youngsters, in keeping with the national tradition of openness to Western influences
(Desbarats 306). It was believed that education through the United States would lead to professional
success. Student visas were only obtained if the student had financial support as well as the incentive
to go back to Thailand usually in the form of financial ties with their home country (Desbarats 307).
Many immigrants found themselves burdened by the conditions of living in the states. The financial
and psychological struggles were not worth it when immigrants were risking to construct networks,
maintain homeland ties and, ensure that remittances reach families left behind (Barkan 19).
Immigrants who stay in the states try to balance assimilation to the dominant American culture while
still want to feel a sense of their homeland. They try to make a connection whether it be through food,
familiar neighbors or the knowledge of language and dance which gets lost in the later generations.
The primary contact with American culture happens through interaction with their American peers
(Tangsujjapoj 3). Social participation is what breaks the way for

  • 2. Sport and Exercise Are Good for Your Health’ Sport and exercise are good for your health Introduction The saying sport and exercise are good for your health appears at first to be an irrefutable fact. However in this assignment I am going to look the information and facts that agree with this statement, and then compare and contrast with the information that disagrees. To begin it would seem logical to define the words in the statement to gain better understanding of their meaning. Sport has several meanings, such as one being a good sport by showing honesty and respect even when defeated but for the purposes of this essay sport will be defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others (Oxford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with the obesity epidemic exercise has been proven to improve an individual s mental state. When carrying out any form of strenuous exercise the pituitary gland in the brain releases chemicals called endorphins. Exercise can lead to an improved mood, a feeling of euphoria often called the runners high (Peak Performance, 2008). It has also been proven to increase neurogenesis, the creation of new neurons in the hippocampus in the brain. Studies have shown that humans begin to lose nerve tissue at approximately 30 years of age. The effect exercise has on the brain increases neural connections, creating a denser network so we are able to process and store information. It has also been shown to initiate brain derived neurotrophic factor or BDNF that acts as a protective response to stress and improve synaptic plasticity which improves the efficiency of signal transmission between neurons. This transfer is generally considered the basis for learning and memory (McGovern, 2005). Looking at the information presented there is far more support to show exercise is more beneficial than it is detrimental to an individual s health. The negative implications could become apparent when an individual does not fully understand the way the body reacts or responds to exercise. The saying too much of a good thing (Shakespeare, 1623) comes in to play when planning a programme of exercise. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The And New England Colonies Everyone has an external force that motivates them in some way that allows them to be able to go about their everyday lives and fulfill their ambitions. Within the years of 1580 and 1763 this force took the form of God. Around this same time was when the Chesapeake and New England colonies were in the process of being founded. As a result, these two settlements did nothing without referencing their actions to God. Due to this heavy focus on God as the reason behind every aspect of their lives, chaos began to sprout soon after the settlers began settling and started living their new lives in the colonies. Since the colonist believed that God dictated their entire lives; they never felt that they were in the wrong. Not once did the colonists stop to think that they had no right to steal the natives land. If God had not smitten them, then they thought that God approved of what they were doing. In this case, the colonists were in the process of acquiring land that the earth bringeth foorth all things in aboundance, as in the first creation, without toile or labour... the most plentifull, sweete, fruitfull, and wholesome [soil] of all the world . The new land that the colonists wanted to take appeared similar to the Garden of Eden. Since they successfully made their voyage to the new land, it looked as if God allowed them to enter a land similar to one of his own. If God gave the colonists access to the land, then wouldn t that mean that the colonists were entitled to the land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Treatment Of Young Victims Of Child Sexual Abuse Abstract The treatment of young victims of child sexual abuse can be demanding for the victim, the victim s family, and the counselor. The trauma associated with the abuse and the time it may take the child to heal can become very overwhelming. There are barriers, such as a lack of family support and lack of disclosure, which may block victims of child sexual abuse from successful treatment. Overcoming these barriers and incorporating multiple methods of treatment can be beneficial for the victim. Specifically, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and relational cultural play therapy with additional resources have proven effective in including family support and in defeating the fears of victims of child sexual abuse. McPherson, Scribano, and Stevens (2012) defined child sexual abuse as, engaging a child in sexual activities that the child cannot comprehend, for which the child is developmentally unprepared and cannot give informed consent (p. 27). The number of affected women in the United States is about 26% and the number of affected men is 16% (Perez Fuentas, Olfson, Villegas, Morcillo, Wang, Blanco, 2013). However, as all crimes go, not every single case has been reported. Whether reported or not, child sexual abuse is a very serious crime that can affect the victims tremendously. Retrieving counseling for these victims of child sexual abuse is substantial in helping the child live a fruitful live post abuse. Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy as ... • 5. Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald deals on one level with Jay Gatsby s hopes and dreams, but on a deeper level also deals with the Great American Dream. The novel starts and ends with a reference to the green light at the end of the dock, indicating an important symbolism. The first time Nick catches sight of Jay Gatsby, Gatsby stretched his arms towards the dark water [...] [Nick] distinguished nothing except a single green light [...] that might have been at the end of a dock. (Fitzgerald 2000:25). Fitzgerald ends the novel by again referring to the green light at the end of Daisy s dock. (171). The protagonist of the novel is Jay Gatsby, a wealthy young man from the Midwest, who has moved to the New York in the East to pursue his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The green light at the end of Daisy s dock also symbolises the inability to control time, the irretrievability of the past and the futility of trying to recreate the past, despite Gatsby s belief to the contrary. When Nick asserts that one can t repeat the past, he exclaims: Can t repeat the past? [...] Why of course you can! (106). Gatsby naively believes that Daisy can erase the past by simply telling Tom that she never loved him. He tells Nick that [he s] going to fix everything the way it was before (106) and that he and Daisy would be married from her house just as if it were five years ago. (106). The similarity between Gatsby s dream and the Great American dream is a central theme of the novel. People pursue their dreams, regardless of the cost to themselves and others, with little regard for the attainability and reality of the dream. In Gatsby s case, his dream eventually costs him his life. Similarly, the singleminded pursuit of wealth and pleasure eventually costs people their lives, if not in the literal sense, then in the moral sense. BIBLIOGRAPHY Fitzgerald, F.S. 1926 (rpt. 2000). The United States president Woodrow Wilson himself privately admitted that he would have refused to sign the Treaty of Versailles if he were a German (1). Although, the Treaty of Versailles was meant to be the core of the peace settlement after World War I it did very little in serving as a peace treaty. Possibly because the Germans input were not asked for during the negotiations of the Treaty of Versailles, furthermore, the Germans had only two options; sign the treaty and be oppressed by the terms and conditions or do not sign and face invasion that would lead to a war that they were not capable of winning. • 9. The Nature Of Face Processing Impairments PY3003 Autistic Spectrum Disorders What is the nature of face processing impairments in autism? Student ID: 1310023 Word count: 1257 Face processing deficits in ASD are not a result of inability how well faces are processed but rather a matter of mechanism in what way this is accomplished. Although some have found no differences in performance compared to controls (Adolphs, Sears Piven, 2001; Neumann et al., 2006; Celani et al., 1999), abnormalities on the behavioural (e.g. Langdell, 1978; Joseph Tanaka, 2002;) and neural (Schultz et al., 2000; Pierce et al., 2001) level are consistently observed. Abnormalities might not always be detected, since autistic individuals could utilise compensatory mechanisms, thus performing similarly to controls on some tasks (Harms, Martin Wallace, 2010). Methodological differences, higher functioning and older samples, and lack of consistency in controls could also account for the conflicting results. Still, the literature mostly suggests that autistic people process faces in a qualitatively different manner. Insight into the causes of this alternative mechanism can help reverse its effects to an extent, or possibly diagnose autism earlier. Moreover, face processing deficits might underpin the social and affective difficulties associated with autism, in which case improving face processing abilities could ameliorate these difficulties. Understanding of the deficits causes is only possible in the context of typical face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. A Study On The Protective Immunity In this study, the CRPV/HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model was used to assess the protective immunity generated by DNA vaccines delivered using the gene gun, the tattoo gun or the microneedle system. The focus was to determine whether the tattoo gun and the microneedle delivery systems were useful DNA vaccination alternatives to the gene gun. Our laboratory has successfully utilized the gene gun in our DNA vaccination studies for both protective and therapeutic purposes (17,34). However, the gene gun system is costly, and we are constantly looking for alternatives to back up our vaccine development program. Tattoo gun has been reported to deliver a DNA vaccine successfully in both mice and non human primates (21 23). Compared with the gene gun and microneedle, tattoo gun delivery is more cost effective but more invasive which generates trauma and scars the vaccinated tissues. Microneedle delivery has achieved comparable protection in mice with twice the dose of gene gun delivery (24 ). However, no studies have been attempted in rabbits for DNA vaccination with either a tattoo gun or a microneedle. In the current study, we compared the gene gun with the tattoo gun as well as the tattoo gun with microneedle DNA vaccine delivery using our well studied DNA epitope vaccines and our unique HLAA2.1 transgenic rabbit model (39). This can be the case for Lego due to to its long term factory moulds, its specialisation in producing building brick and its unique history and brand concept. For a competitor to enter the market it would have a high Economies of Scale. To exemplify this if Lego wanted to produce x units it would cost $y. If a competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. Fig 1.5 In the diagram above (Fig1.5) it shows the average costs to the output of Lego and a new competitor. As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue. This is effective as there is little to no room for profit. That s where Healthcare Flexible Spending Accounts (HCFSA), Limited Purpose Flexible Spending Accounts (LPFSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) come in particularly handy. As a Benefits Administration Professional, I ve become acquainted with the various types of accounts available to cover healthcare costs. The similarities and differences in these account structures will be covered in this essay. One thing these accounts all have in common is their very specific rules that are governed by IRS guidelines in Publications 502 969. Misuse of the accounts will lead to hefty penalties and other unfavorable tax ramifications. Each has specific eligible expenses and deviating from those strict guidelines is a recipe for a tax disaster. HSAs are to be used in conjunction with a high deductible health plan, which in the current plan year is defined as a medial plan with a minimum annual deductible of $1300 for self only and $2600 for family coverage (wherein family consists of any combination of ... • 25. Pope Pius XII s Neutrality Essay Is it possible for a Pope to be infallible? When one looks at events, such as the Holocaust, the answer of this question becomes twofold. Were Pope Pius XII s actions an attempt to save the Catholic Church from persecutions or were they a lack of understanding of Hitler s ethnic cleansing? Nearly six million Jews were slaughtered during the Holocaust, and when the world became aware of the mass murders that were taking place in Europe, World War II became a moral obligation rather than a fight for power. The Allied powers, Nazi resistance group, and even some Catholic groups invaded Germany to not only save Jews, but also to force the Nazis out of power in Germany. Surprisingly, the Vatican did not assist these resistance groups. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the BVP could be diminished, the Nazi Party would be able to grow and eventually gain complete control of Germany. By 1937, the German government violated the Reich Concordat of 1933. Pius XI, with help from Cardinal Michael Faulhaber and editing by Pacelli, wrote Mit Brennender Sorge, an encyclical read to all German churches on Palm Sunday of 1937 in response to the German violations (Sanchez 17). This encyclical objected to the German government abuse of the Reich Concordat and criticized the Nazi doctrines of racism and statism (Mit Brennender). There were no further actions made regarding Germany s infraction of the agreement. Two years later and just before the outbreak of World War II, in February 1939, Pope Pius XI died. Cardinal Pacelli was then elected Pope and became Pope Pius XII. Due to his previous anti Nazi ideals, the future Allied powers were confident that Pius XII would fully support their part in WWII; however, Pope Pius XII would remain neutral throughout the war (Sanchez 17). At the beginning of his papacy, Pius XII told Vatican officials that to me the German question is the most important; I will reserve handling it to myself. He added, Naturally I will follow German matters closer than all others (Phayer 44). Pius XII hoped that remaining neutral in the war would evade battles in Vatican City. At ... The efforts to protect intellectual property rights suffer from three major problems: institutional issues, philosophical issues, and handling of new technologies. The institutional issues refer to the shortcomings of existing regimes and their enforcement. To begin with, the signatories to specific agreements are limited. Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland Essay Organizing Insurgency by Paul Staniland, introduces the question, Do resources like diamonds, drugs, and state sponsors turn insurgent groups into thuggish people or do they help build a more disciplined organization? The reason this question is asked is because in some cases it suggests that resource wealth encourages the degeneration of armed groups into greed and criminality and other evidence shows that external sponsorship and criminal activity can help leaders build organizations in the face of state repression (p.142). This question is being presented because with different insurgent groups like the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and the Hizbul Mujahidden, having very similar interactions with state sponsors, could have ... Similarly to the Taliban, in having a strong basis, are the rebels of Darfur. Before the Darfur genocide occurred, the conflict originally began as an insurgency group against the government. Rebel groups drew from main African tribes of Darfur because they were being oppressed by governmental policies and were looking for a change. • 28. Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came out, one of the rare events that Margot was greatly looking forward to, the classmates ...surged about her, caught her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A little after the war ended, there was a contest for the Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. Maya Lin was chosen as the designer of the memorial, but John Carhart has some problems with her design. After reading Carhart s article, he does make some good points about the memorial, but others are not quite right. The Vietnam Memorial is a very effective memorial. The main goal of Maya Lin for choosing this design is for everyone that goes there is to resolve and come to terms with their losses. It is a quiet place meant for personal reflection and private reckoning (Source D). This is why she chose the simple, clean design of it being black with white letters. Black can be considered a very depressing color, so it adds to the effect and the feeling that this memorial should give someone. The Poetry Of An Author Many critics of poetry are of the opinion to approach the poems or works of an author ignoring or disregarding their biographical features , as if did not influence at all on the design and creation of his poems . While it is true that some sepsis can help when it comes to not fall into false interpretations or twisted and complicated analogies , which amounts to combine meanings of certain verses to personal circumstances experienced by its author, it is no less true that a good biographical knowledge of vital events of the authors can greatly help clear this or that dark side that we find in a poem or a work, the reasons why the title of one form or another or even the way they were ordered poems. Adopted children and their adoptive parents have a g correlation of zero, of course, while adopted children and their biological parents are likely to have the same correlations as any parent child set. So although genes do not seem to be the sole factor mediating intelligence, their effects do seem to be unvarying and likely not superseded by environment. In this way, twin studies give psychologists greater insight into the role of genes in intelligence. Critics of twin studies suggest that twin similarities may be a result of chance rather than evidence of heredity at work. Also, because adopted twin children tend to be placed in similar settings, critics suggest that the trait similarities may be a matter of comparable experience rather than one of heredity. For some of the words, he uses the dictionary meaning, yet for others he uses the connotative meaning. When Hughes uses a word connotatively, he wants the reader to receive a deeper meaning than the dictionary definition would give. For example, the word deferred in Harlem means unfulfilled. The dictionary meaning, however, is to postpone. In the dictionary, postpone means will happen at a later date or time. However, the dreams that Hughes refers to are ones that will never come true. Hughes also uses the connotative meaning for the word fester (line 4). The dictionary meaning is to form pus, yet this definition does not seem strong enough for the emotion the word is trying to express. The word fester in the poem means to become a source of pain or anger. This is exactly what becomes of a person s deferred dream. It becomes painful because that dream never leaves the person s mind. The person might forget about it for a little while and go on with his or her life, but like most painful memories, it will pop up when the person least expects it to. The replicative cycle of HHV8 exists as latency and lytic replication. The main types of sleep apnea are obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when the throat muscles relax, central sleep apnea occurs when the brain does not send the proper signals to the muscles that control breathing, and complex sleep apnea syndrome that occurs when someone has both obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea (Pack, 2002). Sleep apnea appears in about 25 percent of men and almost 10 percent of women. This sleep disorder can affect people of all ages, including little babies, young children and especially people over the age of fifty and people that are overweight. There are specific physical traits and clinical features that are similar in patients with obstructive sleep apnea including a large neck, obesity, and essential irregularities that reduce the diameter of the upper airway, such as nasal blockage, a low hanging soft palate, inflated tonsils, or a small jaw with an overbite (ClevelandClinic.org, ... • 44. Essay On Eminent Domain Eminent Domain is the actual inherent power of the government to take over a citizens property for public use without the owner s consent. This was initially a part of public policy that originated in the middle ages throughout the world. It was adopted by into British Common law before reaching the Americas where it was then established into the U.S. Constitution in 1791 called the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. This grants the federal government the right to exercise eminent domain, provided protect to citizens, and protect the property rights of citizens. Shortly after the Just Compensation Clause of the Fifth Amendment was introduced making the federal guarantee of just compensation applicable to the states. Property owners are offered the fair market value for their property and if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Using Quantitative Pcr For Hiv Viral Load Control Results An HIV GWAS SNP marks expression of a long non coding RNA (lncRNA). Human chromosome 3p21 22 harbors a cluster of chemokine receptor genes, several of which serve as major or minor co receptors of HIV 1 [1]. The genetic associations of CCR5 and CCR2 gene polymorphisms with HIV 1 pathogenesis are well known [2 5], but any potential role of variation in other regions of the cluster is largely unknown. An intergenic SNP (rs1015164 A/G) downstream of the CCRL2 gene was shown to associate with HIV viral load control [6] and progression to AIDS [7] in two independent cohorts of HIV infected patients. Importantly, the SNP showed genome wide significant association with HIV outcomes in meta analyses that collectively examined genotyping data from 6,315 HIV infected patients [8]. The SNP is in close genomic proximity to a non coding RNA gene RP 11 24F11.2 (Fig. S1). We were able to detect and quantify the polyadenylated lncRNA transcript in the total RNA from peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) using quantitative PCR (qPCR). Specificity of the primers was confirmed by sequencing of the amplicons. We designated this lncRNA as Lnc11.2. The rs1015164A allele, which associated with higher viral loads (OR=1.4, p=3.3 ×10 5) [6] and more rapid disease progression (HR=1.4, p=8.6 ×10 6) [7] correlated with higher expression levels of Lnc11.2 in PBLs (Fig. 1). Characterization of the Lnc11.2 transcript Amplification of the 3 and 5 ends of the Lnc11.2 transcript uncovered the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Compare And Contrast The Dollhouse And The Fall Of The City In the stories of The Dollhouse , by Katherine Mansfield, and The Fall of the City , by Alden Nowlan. The two characters I am mainly focusing on are Teddy from The Fall of the City , and Lil from The Dollhouse . These two characters were quite hard to find something in common, due to the different time periods, and how Lil is not the main character in her story. But there are a few similarities with both these stories. The reasons why i choose this story is that there are definitely some things that there is a common ground. And also the challenge of finding those common grounds in these two stories. My for connection I made from these story is that they are both lonely. Essay A Sorrowful Woman A Sorrowful Woman The story that is A Sorrowful Woman seems to be a story told from the point of view of a narrator who focuses only slightly on the inner conflict of one of the main charters in the story. The character of which I am speaking is never referred to by name, instead is called she, the woman, mommy, and wife throughout the entire story which lends credence to the conclusion of the viewpoint as being told from the outside. The first indication that the focus of the story will be not of a warm and loving nature is the line The sight of them made her so sad and sick she did not want to see them again (1). Then in the next line there is no mention of the woman speaking to the child or acknowledging that the child ever spoke to her. The purposeful shunning of the child by the woman is appalling and baffling at the same time. The child in the story is an innocent, wanting to please and gain acknowledgement and love from the very woman that is sickened by the very sight of the child. The mysterious reasons for the shunning of the child can be guessed at in committee, but without more history as to reasoning: the idea of the woman seeing the child as the one reason for her illness is the most conclusive idea to be had. A supporting clause for the woman being ever more resentful of the child is the description given when during the course of play, the woman is scratched enough to draw a small bead or two of blood, One of his sharp little claws ripped her flesh, just above the wrist... a thin red line materialized on the inside of her pale arm and spill over with tiny beads (6). The reaction to this was not to grimace and clean her arm or to take time to trim the child s finger nails to prevent such from happening again. Instead the woman says clearly Go away (6). Then lock herself away from the child. No explanation or reason given to the child but to ignore and satisfy vengeance towards what the woman views as something that ... • 48. There Should Be Guidelines To Human Experimentation The modern understanding of medicine was created by the many people who were subjected to medical testing without their consent. There should be guidelines to human experimentation. Human experimentation should only be performed on consenting adults that understand what is going to happen. In other words, the doctors should get informed consent from their patients. There have been many unethical human experimental trials performed on people that had no idea what was happening to them. This is unethical and very dangerous for the people. There also have been different guidelines and codes for human experimentation, such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki. An example of such unethical human experimentation is The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. This happened in Alabama and was performed by the U.S government in 1932. The men that were in the trial were given free health care, meals and burial insurance. 399 men had syphilis beforehand and 201 did not. Funding was cut for the experiments but they still continued to study these men even though the antibiotic penicillin had come out in 1947. They told the men that they had something called bad blood and they refused to tell the men that they had syphilis. This trial was continued until 1972 when the ... The United States tried their hardest to keep the peace in line but nothing was working. So the United States army set off on the USS George Washington to Algerines and Tripoli to settle things. A man by the name of Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as president in the year of 1801 and not long after he would send warships to Tripoli and confront the pirates face to face for their doings. This caused a blockade so no pirates would be able to attack the merchant ships. What this action would do was not what Jefferson thought would happen but as an outcome an all out war broke loose between Jefferson s army and the Tripoli pirates and their allies. The war would go on and on off the coast. The blockade only held for so long. Finally the pirates would make their way through and ships started to come up on shore. The USS Philadelphia hit shore in Tripoli s harbor and the pirates captured it. A young navy member then snuck onto the ship and set it on fire during an enemy gun fire, destroying any goods the pirates could get their hands on or even stop them from rebuilding the ship and turning it against the United States Navy. The war would continue for a while until finally peace agreements were made and the U.S Navy fled the scene. This whole action by Jefferson showed braveness in not only him but the U.S Navy to ... People And The Thai Born Talent That Hit The Fashion Runway Thailandese Americans and the Thai born Talent that Struck the Fashion Runway Within the last few decades, there has been a great influx of Asians who have migrated to the United States. In 1985, Asian immigrants made up less than half of the total immigrant population, many of which have settled in New York City and California. The selective phenomenon known as migration has been impelled by the demographic, economic, social and psychological attributes of the location (Desbarats 305). It was believed that education through the United States would lead to professional success. Student visas were only obtained if the student had financial support as well as the incentive to go back to Thailand usually in the form of financial ties with their home country (Desbarats 307). Many immigrants found themselves burdened by the conditions of living in the states. The financial and psychological struggles were not worth it when immigrants were risking to construct networks, maintain homeland ties and, ensure that remittances reach families left behind (Barkan 19). Immigrants who stay in the states try to balance assimilation to the dominant American culture while still want to feel a sense of their homeland.
