The Effects of Market Orientation and Service Innovation...
Abstract This study examines how market orientation affects a firm s service innovation and
consequently, the firm s market and financial performance. The findings indicate that if firms use
customer orientation, the firm is more likely to adopt incremental service innovation, while if a
firm uses competitor orientation, the firmis more likely to adopt radical service innovation. Finally,
incremental and radical service innovations lead to greater market performance and in turn, greater
financial performance.
1 Introduction
How service firms use market orientation has attracted great attention in innovation literature
(Agarwal et al. 2003; Manzano et al. 2005). Market orientation refers to the organizational culture
that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inter functional coordination, a third component of market orientation, coordinates a firm s
resources and market related activities. Because customer and competitive orientations are two
primary ways that service firms use to cope with markets (Zhou et al. 2009), this study focuses on
the customer and competitor orientations and regards inter functional coordination as a control
variable.
The degree of service innovation ranges from a totally new or discontinuous innovation to a
service involving a minor improvement or a dramatic change (Griffin, 1997; Avlonitis et al., 2001;
Garcia and Calantone, 2002). Although several service innovation types have been proposed
(Gadrey et al. 1995; Debackere et al. 1998; Avlonitis et al. 2001; Berry et al. 2006; Paswan et al.
2009), in this study, because we are concerned with the greatest and the least degree of service
innovation, service innovation is differentiated into incremental and radical innovation. Such a
differentiation has been frequently used in similar innovation research (Olsen and Sallis 2006; Min
et al. 2006; Song and Thieme 2009).
Incremental service innovation is related to customer led strategies that focus on manifest needs
(Connor 1999; Slater and Narver 1999) and is posited to be the most common form of innovation
(Bell et al. 2002; Slater and Narver 1999). Customer led businesses focus on understanding the
expressed desires of the customers in their

Music As A Predictor For Personality
For years, music has been an important part of the lives of millions of people all over the world.
Music is one of the earliest forms of expressive art and is part of many cultures. It is used by all
people of different ages, ethnicities, and gender for many purposes. For many, music is a part of
everyday life, being used in social situations. For others, it may be used just as a way to unwind
after a long, stressful day, but can it be used to as a predictor for personality? Do people who
experience high/low levels of aggression and self esteem listen to particular genres? Psychologists
have started to study how musicexactly can lead to an understanding on human behavior.
Over the past years, numerous researchers have shown interest in musical preferences and how
they relate to personality traits as well (Cattell Anderson, 1953; Dollinger, 1993). However,
because of changes in music and its lyrical content over time, music itself has become an issue of
interest and concern. Music and lyrical content have become gradually more explicit with
references to drugs, sex, and violence. The anti social themes overall have lead many adults,
mostly parents of young children and teens, to rally against it, especially heavy metal and rap. The
anti social themes have also lead the study of music s impact on emotion and behavior.
Statement of Problem
Despite the growing interest and concern, there has been limited research analyzing the relationship
between music, personality,

Optimal Performance Of Java Encryption
Optimal Performance of Java Encryption
Abstract:
The usage and developments of computer and Internet technology in our life, is inseparable from
the Internet. The Growth of emerging internet and web based applications will be significant in
future. With these developments, users are enjoying quicker and more convenient services offered
by the Internet based web applications. However, we face potential security threat to sensitive
information. The data transferred over the internet or network between web applications or legacy
systems can be exposed. It is very essential to have more sophisticated protection mechanisms for
web application data transferred over the network. In addition to this, the data stored by web
application in persistent storage needs to be encrypted so as to avoid any data exposure or chance
of hacking. Data encryption is an efficient method of guaranteeing information security. There are
many encryption methodologies available to encrypt the data. As Java language used for majority
of WEB application development with its good features of portability and object oriented
programming, this paper describes about the Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) API and its
performance over 128 bit and 256 bit encryption techniques.
1.Introduction:
The Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) provides a standard framework and implementations for
data encryption, the key generation, key agreement and the message authentication Code

What Are Ah Goong s Achievements In The Book China Men
Weekly Reflection: Week 11 China Men Question #2 Known for her notable achievements in
memoirs and fiction, Maxine Hong Kingston published China Men: a literature composed of stories
about Chinese men in her family. One story distinguishes the heroic journey of grandfather Ah
Goong. Ah Goong worked to build the railroad, but was driven out when it was completed in 1869;
he then became a homeless wanderer in San Francisco. Upon hearing this fact, Kingston s family
called him Fleaman as they did not understand his accomplishments as an American ancestor, a
holding, homing ancestor of this place (Kingston 151). What Kingston actually meant by Ah Goong
being an American ancestor was that he had many accomplishments, but those achievements weren
t communicated to Kingston s family. To support this claim, I will talk about how Ah Goong s
accomplishments were silenced by photography and by unfortunate circumstances.... Show more

He moved his scaffold to the next section of cliff and went down in the basket again, with bags of
dirt, and set the next charge (Kingston 131). Ah Goong and his Chinese laborers worked their
shifts day and night with little pay; a railroad strike demanding more pay later gave the Chinese
workers four extra dollars. Finally, when Ah Goong and his team finished the transcontinental
railroad, their works weren t credited. The white demons covered up their hard work and instead
had Anglo Saxon whites pose for railroad photographs. While the demons posed for photographs,
the China Men dispersed (Kingston 145). There was no portraits of Ah Goong actually being

Transcendental Anticipation Report
In English class we did a Transcendental Anticipation Guide which would lead us into a bigger
project. This assignment gave us multiple controversial statements and we would write down
whether we agreed or not and why. We also had to come up with our own definitions to words we
did not recognize and compare these to the definitions of other people and those in the dictionary.
We would then talk about our answers and what we wrote down among the classroom. We would
discuss why we put what we put which would sometimes lead people to change their answers.
Before our actual class discussion we did a little preparing. This included looking up the definitions
to several words and writing them down. If we didn t understand what a statement was saying

Proctor and Gamble Scope Case Essay
Proctor and Gamble Scope Case Analysis 1) What significant changes have occurred in the
Canadian mouthwash market in the past three years? The mouthwash market had grown on an
average increase of 3% per year for 12 years. Then in 1987, with the introduction of new flavors it
shot up 26%, and after that it continued at a steady increase of 5% per year. Originally, Listerine
was the market leader. It positioned itself as a germ killing mouthwash that eliminated bad breath.
Scope was introduced in 1967 as a green, mint tasting mouthwash that was mouth refreshing and
provided bad breath protection. Scope branded itself not only protection to bad breath, but also that
it tasted better than the other mouthwashes available. Competitors of Scope... Show more content on

In food stores, Scope held a 42% market share, whereas in drugstores, it only held a 27$ market
share. This is significant because drugstores are where 65% of mouthwash sales come from, and
only 25% of sales come from food stores. Scope is priced slightly below average at food stores
and 16% below average at drugstores. Listerine and Listermint are priced above average at food
stores and slightly below average at drugstores. Overall, Scope has a strong presence in the
market for mouthwash. It has the leading market share in the Canadian market. Consumers that
purchase Scope do so because it is better tasting than other mouthwashes that prevent bad breath.
Scope excels in food stores, but has room to increase sales in drugstores because that is where
most mouthwash purchases occur. With the introduction of Plax, Scope s market share could
potentially be threatened. The market is shifting towards health related benefits of mouthwash
and not just fresh breath and good taste. 3) What are the pros and cons of the options available
for Scope? A) Do nothing: One option available for Scope is to remain status quo. Scope is
already the leading market shareholder in mouthwash in the Canadian market. The cost of Scope
is below market averages and is already perceived as a quality product. Two of the most important
reasons for consumers to buy a mouthwash include to get rid of bad breath and that it

Walden As A Mirror, Walden
Reflections: Walden as a Mirror, Walden as a Lens
When Henry David Thoreau went to Walden Pond on July 4, 1845, he had no way of knowing that
200 years later, Walden would be required reading for anyone with even a passing interest in
American literature, environmental literature, or intentional living. But Walden is so much more
than the story of one man s retreat into the woods to transact some private business. Thoreau s
disarming directness and naturalistic style aside, Walden not an incidental text. With extensive
revisions, distilling a little over two years into one, every chapter, sentence and word of Walden
has a purpose and place. Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo is credited with saying, Every block of
stone has a statue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, aside from a brief reference to the cycle of the seasons, where Thoreau says that he lived a
summer and a winter life; saw how [he] could let the years run off, buffet the winter through and
see the spring come in, this chapter gains seasonal association through the knowledge that Thoreau
went to Walden in the summer. The Ponds brings us explicitly into autumn progressing from a
calm September afternoon, to such a day in September or October, to a November after the severe
frosts have come. The Pond in Winter brings the seasonal theme into the title and finally the
culmination of, Spring. Where I Lived, and What I Lived For begins Walden s central narrative.
Economy addresses the practicalities and the surface narrative, but Where I Lived, and What I
Lived For lays out the groundwork for the extended metaphor that serves as Walden s symbolic
backbone. Time is but the stream I go a fishing in, I drink at; but while I drink I see the sandy
bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink
deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars, Thoreau tells us at the end of the chapter.
This quote illustrates two concepts that recur again and again in Walden. First, the idea of water as
simultaneously shallow and deep. Thoreau first proclaims that he can see the bottom of the stream
but then elaborates, implying that there is something beyond the

Socrates Reflection Paper
In 470 B.C.E Greek Philosopher, Socrates developed a theory that is supposed to clarify how
humans obtained knowledge through the soul. Through the Recollection theory, Socrates tells and
shows how human were supposedly born with non empirical knowledge by stating how humans
remembered what they past knew from re living the experience. Therefore he claims that the soul
existed before birth, proving that the human soul is immortal.
Socrates began to describe how humans don t obtain knowledge by learning instead, he stated
that we humans simply recollect what we already know. Our idea of a triangle, for instance,
didn t derive from sitting in a geometry class and learning about different shapes, we simply
were already born with this knowledge. He believes that humans were already so familiar with
many things/aspects of life because we already knew about them and thus seen them, through
the world of forms. He states that we recollect by experiencing. So if we live life and experience,
our knowledge will slowly come back to us. Socrates believes that humans know what we know
now because of our souls engagement in the world of forums. Socrates then states that when the
soul connects to a body, we then depend on the body to help us recollect that obtained and given
knowledge to us by our souls. How does this process work exactly? How do we recollect our
knowledge? Well according to Socrates by simply living life. Socrates states that there are three

The Use Of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth
3.1Subtitle: Introduction
Gingival enlargement is the overgrowth of gingiva characterized by an expansion and accumulation
of the connective tissue with occasional presence of increased number of cells.
Drug induced gingival overgrowth is known as an adverse effect with three types of drug:
Phenytoin, an antiepileptic;
Cyclosporine A, an immunosuppressant; and
Calcium channel blockers, such as dihydropyridines (nifedipine), diltiazem, and verapamil,
which are widely prescribed for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases.
п‚—This is characterized by an accumulation of extracellular matrix within the gingival connective
tissue, particularly the collagenous component, with various degrees of chronic inflammatory
inflammation. (Yamasaki, 1987)
п‚—It remains unknown why drugs with such different pharmacological actions induce similar
gingival overgrowth.
п‚—The genetically determined capacity of the host to deal metabolically with chronically
administered drugs, the responsiveness of gingival tissue to the drugs, and preexisting gingival
condition, including inflammation may, differ among individuals.
п‚—Although the pathology of drug induced gingival overgrowth is not definitively known
п‚—These disorders seem to be induced through the disruption of the homeostasis of collagen
synthesis and degradation in gingival connective tissues.

Essay Skylock in ShakespeareВґs Merchant of Venice Villian
One of the earliest idioms taught to students of all ages is Don t judge a book by its cover.
Oftentimes, a quote like that can easily be disregarded, however, it is applicable to people who
aren t always who they seem to be. Shakespeare s play the Merchant of Venice is an outstanding
work that contains a very strange villain in Shylock, who is hated by all, although he has not
wronged them in the past. Thusly, his habits and personality evolved from his interactions with the
Venetian populous. By examining the changes Shylock displays in tone, Shylock the villain s
motivations can be seen and ultimately display that no matter how twisted a person is or may seem,
the motivations behind their actions indicate that innately they have a... Show more content on

This correlates almost directly to how most of the other major characters of Merchant of Venice
also treat him (e.g. Antonio). However, as is with most cases, there are two sides to each story.
To understand the motivation behind Shylock s obsession with money, the beginning of the play
has to be referenced. In Shylock s negotiations with Bassanio and Antonio, Shylock recalls,
Signior Antonio, many a time and oft in the Rialto you have rated me about my moneys and my
usances... You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog and spet upon my Jewish gabardine... You called
me dog; and for these courtesies I ll lend you thus much moneys? (1.3.104 126). From this
passage, Shylock s motivations are presented clearly. He loathes Antonio for how poorly he has
treated him in the past, insulting both his character and his religion. Therefore, the motivating
factor in lending money to Bassanio is so Shylock has the ability to hold some form of power over
Antonio. Therein lies the key to Shylock s obsession with wealth. In the referenced Venetian
culture, Jewish people were persecuted for their religion and were branded unsavory by the
predominantly Christian community. Shylock, being ridiculed and domineered his whole life by
his Christian counterparts, saw an opportunity to finally even the odds and jumped at it. Shylock
clings onto his wealth because it is the only thing that gives him power in Venetian

Medieval Castles the Start of the Modern Age Essay examples
Medieval castles were the start of the modern age. They had forms of government, and everyone
had a specific job. It was, however, still primitive to modern standards, because they still had a
King and Queen and no indoor plumbing. This blend of primitive and modern makes medieval
castle life an interesting and intriguing time to live. A medieval castleusually had five main
buildings: The hall, the kitchen, barracks/living quarters/supply buildings, water rooms, and a
chapel. The chapel was the most influential and sacred place of the entire castle. Usually the chapel
would be two stories tall to separate the royal familyfrom servants. The royal family would be on

The royal family would sit astride him on wooden benches. Most halls were arranged much as a
church was with wooden benches facing the king. The tables that everyone would sit around
had white linen cloth on them and the tables could also be easily removed. If the king was
especially prestigious he would have a stationary table that would never move. The hall often
had stone or wooden pillars the supported its wooden roof and if the hall was on the second floor
it was supported by stone or wooden pillars as well. The floor that these pillars supported was
almost always wooden or if they could afford it stone vaulting. The floor was often wooden and
covered in rushes and herbs that would be changed periodically. Carpet was only used on walls
and tables until the fourteenth century. The windows of the hall were often just wooden shutters
although some did have tinted glass in later time periods. The hall was often the most beautiful
and decorated place of the castle with the church being a close second. The kitchen was the main
area for food preparation and storage. There were often chicken coops, pens, and other locations
where animals were kept for food nearby the kitchen. There were many fruit trees and orchards
placed closely as well. The kitchen usually consisted of several fireplaces with a central hearth

Plato s Levels Of Reality
Final Essay: Plato s Levels of Reality 1.Introduction Plato, arguably one of the most famous
philosophers in history is known for his dialogues and theory of Forms. The theory of Forms
argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses
perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be
divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level
which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality
in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different
perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along
with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be
done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An
extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality
and knowledge, the Divided Line extrapolates on the relationship between the two realities and
their corresponding knowledge. The line is divided into two unequal parts the smaller part would
be the Visible Realm while the larger part would be the Intelligible realm . The two parts are then
divided into two unequal parts again of the same ratio the smaller part of the Visible realm is

Rock Canyon in Utah
Rock Canyon is an excellent site for geologic research and has been investigated by geologists
from around Utah and neighboring states. With outstanding extrusions of quartzite, tillite and
limestone, it s a favored destination for hikers, rock climbers and scientists. The quartzite is
considered the most unique feature of Rock Canyon as it s one of the few clear and distinct
examples of the sedimentary processes involved with a shallow marine setting. The tillite beneath
the quartzite draws attention to the ancient glaciers to the past. In conjunction with the active
Wasatch Fault found at its doorstep, Rock Canyon is an important place in Utah for geologists.
To begin, the mouth of the canyon features a hilly landscape with scars from landslides created
from the uplifting of land by the Wasatch Fault. The fault, responsible for the creation of the
Wasatch Mountains 25 million years ago, is a normal fault (Eldredge, 2014). Unlike some faults,
vertical movement of the terrain is limited and slippage only occurs every several hundred or
thousand years. Signs of the fault at work can be seen through the mouth of the canyon with the
orange Tintic Quartzite which is dated back to the Cambrian Age. Layered beneath the quartzite is
tillite from the Precambrian Age. To the west and separate from the Quartzite and tillite by the
Wasatch Vault are limestone sections from the Missippian Age. (Rigby, Hintze, 1968, pg 23). The

Long Distance Relationship Essay
Long distance relationships can be a pain. The word distance is why. Many individuals who have
been in a relationship since high school are trying to continue their relationship in separate colleges.
When being in a long distance relationship some of the love can become lost, unless it is true love.
Although, many people think that long distance relationships are impossible to maintain, there are
solutions to this problem for college students who are separated by distance.
A problem that many people do not realize until they reach college is the distance of a previous
relationship. A long distance relationship can be defined as a relationship where two individuals are
separate from each other. Many young relationships begin the freshman year of high school and
some even make it to the senior year which is when things start going South. The problem begins
once college acceptance letters comes both people go separate ways. In many cases the two
people involved have views that differ as far as school goes which then causes turmoil when one
decides to go to school out of state in which they reside. Through having trust, in a college
relationship the both of the individuals have to be open with one another about what is going on
while at college. Though it is not a guarantee that he or she will always tell the truth if they really
know the person they are romantically involved with he or she will know if they are telling them
lies to spare their heart. Many times, young

Machiavelli’s Views on Government Essay
At first glance Machiavelli s writings could be mistaken for evil and satanic beliefs, but in
reality there are many good underlying points as to how to rule a nation. I believe that the New
Yorker s description of Machiavelli is the best example of his life and beliefs, because it not only
touches upon the high points, but the low points of beliefs as well. The New Yorkergoes into great
detail about how Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government
official/ ambassador just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an
unstable country through means of war and fear. Machiavelli wasn t only a government official he
was a strategic genius, but only because as ambassador he had... Show more content on

For example, Machiavelli wrote about the young leader Borgia who conquered many nations in the
name of Spain. He explained how it was necessary for a prince... to work against what is merciful,
loyal, humane, upright, and scrupulous. . This makes a ruler look bad, however in reality what the
ruler does make a ruler look bad may improve the quality of the nations he is conquering and
ruling. Machiavelli wrote that Borgia conquered many nations, but these nations had weak
rulers, who had let the nations become over run with crime and filth, but once conquered by
Borgia and his men were brought up to a good quality standard with less crime and more peace
and order, due to the enforcement of Spanish law. That is why Machiavelli s misconceived
writings were actually meant to show that even though a ruler may look bad in people s eyes, his
actions actually create good within the nations he controls. A more recent example of a leader who
would fit under Machiavelli s theory was Adolf Hitler. Hitler was an extremist whose views should
never be tolerated, but in reality he had helped his people get out of an economic depression and
improved the quality of life for many Germans. What Machiavelli is trying to imply is to be a good
leader isn t to be the most well liked person, but to get results that improve people s lives even if
you have to be seen in a negative light. I do

Courage can be found in the most unexpected places. In the ladies room commercial by Secret
deodorant. Dana, a transgender female feels discomfort while leaving the restroom after she hears a

This commercial illustrates the fear that members of the transgendercommunity face in a seemingly
non harmful place like the restroom. Through appealto higher order needs, credibility and appeal to
broad cultural values, the commercial effectively persuades millions of American women about the
fear that many men and women feel around the world. One of the most important human need is
acceptance. Humans strive to appear normal as much as possible. Unfortunately, normality is often
associated with heterosexuality and binary genders which is a myth Secret dispels in this

normal to send a social message. The commercial does not persuade its audience of women, that in
order to be normal they must use secret deodorant, rather it persuades them to understand that
despite their differences they are accepted and are fit to use the deodorant. This persuasion
technique is effective because minorities frequently feel the urge to assimilate with the majority,
but with Secrets message which says there is no wrong way to be a women , the brand displays an

things, what ethnographyis and its relationship to various media as well as self ethnography and

Ruth Behar, in her book, The Vulnerable Observer, humorously claims that nothing is stranger than
this business of humans observing other humans in order to write about them, so naturally,
presenting the information gathered through such observations can be seen as something of a
challenge for ethnographers (Behar, 5). While many ethnographers have continued using literal
media to present their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways.
Fortunately, with the growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and
the digital media have become increasingly intertwined in their use. Arguably, the most effective
ethnographic research incorporates new media and technologies into how its narratives are
portrayed. According to Underberg and Zorn, ethnography that uses a diverse set of media such
as videos, photographs, or digital media to communicate multisensory experience[s] and
knowledge is known as multisensory ethnography (Underberg and Zorn, 18 19). In using various
media to present research, not only are ethnographers able to have more control over how their
audience perceives their findings, but they also make those findings more accessible to audiences
of all ages. For example, a two hundred page book documenting a year spent in the villages of sub
Saharan Africa is largely appealing only to those in academia, but an interactive exhibit

In the poem, The Mending Wall Frost creates a lot of ambiguity in order to leave the poem open
for interpretation. Frost s description of every detail in this poem is very interesting, it leaves the
reader to decide for themselves what deductions they are to be making of the poem. To begin with,
Frost makes literal implications about what the two men are doing. For instance, they are physically
putting the stones back, one by one. Their commitment and constant drive shows how persistent
these men seem about keeping the wall intact. On the other hand, there are inferences that
something deeper is occurring.

As the poem continues, we see that what they are doing is somewhat of a game. The speaker even
states, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game. The speaker goes on to say, We keep the wall
between us as we go. Almost as if there is a competition between the two. He is all pine and I am
apple orchard It seems to indicate that these two men are very different, but despite this difference
they form a unique bond.
Frost also uses an application of the stone itself. Stay where you are until our backs are turned. By
personifying the stone, it shows that the speaker may be so bored that he is willing to speak with
inanimate objects. Also, this shows that his partner may not be all that talkative as was expected.
After all, the neighbor only says one thing, Good fences make good neighbors. :
However there is also a separation or segregation. In addition to the separation of the two men,
Frost contrasts his wall of separation with the idea of segregation in our society. He uses this wall
to display a separation between people in the current social climate. Lastly, there is the recurring
idea that the wall should not be there. We do not need the wall This sentence implies that the wall
separating us as people, needs to

Wireless Vulnerabilities
The world of wireless networks as we all know is one of the most rapidly growing areas in our
world today. With the massive amount of data that is going on, the cloud the security of all of our
data is questioned. As well with so many of our day to day tasks relying on our wireless
capabilities it make you wonder how safe is it to rely so heavily on something. We have to ask
the questions what are the key vulnerabilities of wireless networks and even just of networks in
general. Different types of networks have different levels of safety and it is a good idea to know
not only which are safe but the vulnerabilities of said networks to keep our information out of the ...

Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia Essay
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM), also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, is a
type of low grade non Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by bone marrow infiltration with
lymphomasmacytic cells. WM was named after Jan Waldenstrom, a Swedish doctor who came
across the disease and labeled the disorder in 1944. It is an incurable, rare disease affecting 1 in
3 million people with a medial life span of 5 9 years after it is diagnosed. The cause of this
disease is unknown but recent indications and research show that the cause can be due to changes
in the DNA. Age and gender are the main factors with most occurrences in men over 50. WM s
cancercells are similar to multiple myeloma except that WM has lymphocyte features that are not

Prognosis is influenced by factors such as how advanced the disease is at diagnosis, and how
rapidly it is advancing. Effective treatments are traditional chemotherapy agents such as
chlorambucil, cyclophosphamide and melphalan. These can be given as a single agent or
combination with others such as rituximab. This monoclonal antibody has been found to be
effective. Because WM is a rare disease, there are minimal research trials to support this disease.
But none the less, there are clinical trials available. Ongoing research has introduced new therapies
including inhibitors and alkylating agents. These ongoing clinical trials have shown that when
compared to conventional chemotherapy agents, can not only treat the symptoms of the disease,
but also continue to further medicine s knowledge as to patient s prognosis while providing
patients increased therapeutic efficacy, longer remissions and most important, a better quality of
life. Stem cell transplant is also an option. This process involves removal of blood forming stem
cells which are restored to the patient following chemotherapy treatment while the transplanted
cells return to the bone marrow and produce new blood cells. Another option for patients with a
swollen spleen is the removal of the spleen. This would also help stabilize and stop the progression

Thermodynamic Optimization of Flow Over an Isothermal...
Boundary layers are thin regions next to the wall in the flow where viscous forces are important.
The above mentioned wall can be in various geometrical shapes. Blasius [1] studied the simplest
boundary layer over a flat plate. He employed a similarity transformation which reduces the partial
differential boundary layerequations to a nonlinear third order ordinary differential one before
solving it analytically. The boundary layer flow over a moving plate in a viscous fluid has been
considered by Klemp and Acrivos [2], Hussaini et al. [3], Fang and Zhang [4] and recently Ishak

Low Frequency Noise And Its Effects On Community Health
Environment consist of noise from aircraft, motor vehicle, and trains which collectively
contribute to the noise created in the surrounding. In urban setting, car horns, boom cars, car
alarms and public transit system may be the concern. In suburban setting noise pollution can be
initiated from leaf blowers, barking dogs, and other power equipments. adverse health effects
appear in relation to total noise exposure from all sources rather than a single source. Low
frequency noise is strong immediate concern because of its pervasive nature as it arises from
multiple sources. Adverse health effects from low frequency noise are more severe than any other
form of community noise. VULNERABLE GROUPS The vulnerability may be referred to the
susceptibility of a person, society, group, society or system to the physical or emotional injury or
attack. Also, it has been described to the degree at which the people, resources, property system and
cultural, environmental and social, and economic activity are susceptible to harm, destruction or
degradation on being exposed to an agent or a factor. Groups at risk as mentioned in the literature
are the children, the elderly, the chronically ill and people with hearing impairment. The other
group of people is those of sensitive persons, shift workers, people with mental illness like

Fountainhead Essay Outline
Ayn Rand, the author of the book Fountainhead, had very strong and insightful beliefs. One such
belief, as quoted by Ayn Rand, pertains to the idea of people that do not follow trends. She
believes that throughout history there have been people that decided to step off of the path that
everyone was on, in order to create their vision that no one has had before. The second someone
does something different many people start to think they are crazy and do not think their ideas are
practical. Although the inventors face much opposition, they still manage to come out on top. Ayn
Rand s believes that people who want something should not give up on their dreams just because

book series to be written. Not only was the story told through writing, it was also made into
multiple movies. Rand mentions how even though they were not liked, they still came out on
top. J.K. Rowling s books were not liked at first, but eventually they became one of the best
selling book series and she came out on top. Another individual that fits Ayn Rand s quote is Miley
Cyrus. Miley Cyrus is known for a lot of things, especially her being a disney star. At the beginning
of her career, she starred on Hannah Montana, a disney channel tv show, and was a popstar as both
Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus. Because of Disney Channel s reputation of being mostly a
kids tv channel, Miley Cyrus was seen as a kids actor and singer. As she got older, she began to
star in movies for teenagers, such as The Last Song, and started to sign more edgy songs. Many
people continued to love her not only as an actor, but as a singer too. A few years ago, Miley
Cyrus took a huge turn. She started singing in a very different style and dressing in crazy
provocative outfits. Ayn Rand states that when people start to go off the path that everyone else is

The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning
Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution,
culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides
people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has
seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime,
cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive
cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996).
Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations
in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their
groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum,
Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential
characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural
evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous
generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across
generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call,
Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for
example, by observing others

Microsoft Swot Analysis Paper
Founded in 1975, Microsoft is a global competitor , that is, a global corporation following a
unified strategy to coordinate many national operations (Porter, 2011); is the oldest major
producer of software for personal computers (PCs) and the world s largest software company with
a strong, leading market share for its core products that make up over 80% of its revenue (Moody s,

Microsoft entered the market at the beginning of the new global economy with an initial strategic
intent (Macmillan Tampoe, 2000) to capitalise on software back in an era when PCs were too

Early market domination allowed Microsoft to build huge momentum and gain dominant market

Rapid Application Development And The Agile Development...
In this paper, Rapid Application Development (RAD) and the Agile Development Method
(ADM) are compared and contrasted. The paper begins with a summary of each of the articles
referenced on the title page, including the pros (benefits) and cons (risks) of each method. The
paper then addresses how the two methods might be applied to my company, Parametric
Technology Corporation (PTC), an enterprise software solutions provider headquartered in
Needham, MA, with about 6,000 employees in over 70 offices worldwide. Finally, the paper
concludes with my views on which of the two methods would be more valuable in a development
setting. The authors of the article, Risks of Rapid Application Development, open by cautioning that
software development includes or should include more than the speed at which an application is
delivered, identifying maintainability and reusability as equally important characteristics. The
purpose of the article is to fill a gap in the literature (at the time of the writing of the article) about
the long term implications of RAD tools on both the software itself and the organizations and
developers who use it. The authors emphasize that the choice to use RAD is not just a capability
decision, it is also a human resources management decision. In addition to a much faster
development lifecycle, RAD tools also include requirements planning, design and modeling, code
writing, and testing, with the requirements and design phases accounting for about 30% of

Historical, Social, And Political Factors In The Book Of...
The book of Isaiah has a lot of unique historical, social, and political factors to it. The prophet
Isaiah prophesied during the reign of King Ahaz and Hezekiah (740 681 BC). Isaiah mainly
worked during the reign of Hezekiah, However; his first narrative was under King Ahaz in 734
733 BC. In which, King Ahaz was dealing with crisis regarding foreign powers and was struggling
on how to protect his people. One of main themes in the book of Isaiahis that not to trust in human
power but instead one should trust in God. Isaiah prophesied under a very complicated social
setting, Isaiah lived during a time of rapid corruption in the government of Israel. He preached
that the government was not following God s covenant. He also preached to the people of Israel
who rebelled against God s covenant. The prophet Isaiah also guided the leaders of Israel during
very tough political times.
The leaders of Israel were struggling to maintain power due to its neighbors. The prophet Isaiah
guided Hezekiah by preaching that he should place his trust in God and not Assyrian alliance.
However, King Hezekiah was not consistent with his trust in God, which later resulted in the fall
of reign. The book of Isaiah can be broken down into three sections. Chapters 1 to 39 represent the
call of judgement for the city of Jerusalem. Chapters 40 to 55 represent the prophet Isaiah in exile,
and chapters 56 to 66 represent the return from exile to a new Jerusalem. Each section highlights a

are great for families that do not have a high income. FHA insured loans are government backed
loan programs designed to help families get new loans of their homes at extremely low costs
compared to conventional mortgage loans.

loans. It is worth knowing that the Federal Housing Administration does not give out loans. Instead,

These drawbacks have somewhat affected borrowers demand for FHA loans. Some of these
drawbacks are as follows.
One of such disadvantages is the limits set by FHA on loan amount that can be taken by
borrowers. This measure is to ensure that the privilege is not abused by borrowers and only
families that fall within the approved income bracket benefit from the loan.
Another drawback of FHA insured loans to some people is the requirement that borrowers must
reside in the house and use it as their primary residence. This condition makes the loan not suitable
for persons that are looking to purchase a home as a vacation spot or as an investment property.
The reason for the restriction is that the loans are designed for families that are trying to get a home
for themselves.
One of the major features of getting an FHA insured loan is that borrowers need to go through an
FHA approved lending institution. However, this is only part of the process, and fortunately, there
are tens to hundreds of lending institutions approved by the Federal Housing Administration to

Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago)
whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or
not profits are made on a sustainable basis.
Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand too many people
willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to
what is produced.
Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers

Arguments Against Circular Reasoning
Logic, as most people know, is the art and science of reasoning well. Studied logicians use facts
to craft clear, convincing arguments that support various positions. Correct arguments state
reliable facts or premises, as some call them and then draw a conclusion based on those facts.
Only a single error in an argument can bring the whole thing crashing down, which causes the
debater to lose both the point and part of their reputability. Circular reasoning has become one
fault that occurs far too often. Dictionary.com, which research shows as a reputable website,
defines circular reasoning as a use of reason in which the premises depends on or is equivalent to

Unfortunately, it requires circular reasoning in order for the text to so prove itself. Since the

what? The basic faith of Christianity becomes unstable when the Word of God becomes
untrustworthy. Entire lives will fall apart and hundreds of people will become unstable and
confused, and all because they put faith in an unreliable document. Why does that matter to me?All
humans instinctively know not to follow something that they cannot trust, but many refuse to obey
these instincts when it comes to religion. People should begin to think and realize the
foolhardiness of a conservative Christian faith that heavily relies on the infallibility of the Bible,
for if the Bible cannot be trusted, then they have wasted their lives on a fool s errand. Whether a

of the employee (Mondy, Noe Gowan, 2005). Performance management consists of a cycle of
interrelated activities. The first stage of the cycle is the clarification of expectations. Employees
have to be involved at this point since it is the main determinant of their actions. This stage focuses
on the setting of the goals and standards of the evaluation of performance that are both attainable
and realistic according to the capabilities of the employee. The second stage in the performance
management cycle is the planning and development of the performance. The stage concerns itself
with the actual actions that the employees will undertake in order to reach their key performance
indicators in their respective result areas. The performance management planning acts as the basis
of control on the performance. The third step is the monitoring of the performance. Performance
management has to be conducted as an ongoing case for the attainment of the overall goals of the
organization. Current performance management helps in the creation of the right information
concerning the performance of a certain group. It is also the primary basis for the evaluation of the

Difference Between Jacobean And Elizabethan Play
In general, Elizabethan as well as Jacobean plays, not only those of Shakespeare, were more or
less influenced by the tradition from which they had arisen, by the sources of information on
which they were based, and also by the current political situation in which they were written.
While scholars have disagreed about the direct influence of Seneca on Elizabethan drama. The
Elizabethan era was a time of relative hope and confidence. In the early seventeenth century,
however, the national mood seems to have become tense and anxious, partially because James
was not as skillful a ruler as Elizabeth. This period, called Jacobean from the Latin form of James
s name, also is known as the early Stuart era after James s family name. William Shakespeare...

Every fresh addition to the knowledge of the history and thought of ancient Greece and Rome was
eagerly welcomed. Sir Thomas North s translation of Plutarch s Lives, which was first published in
1579, provided the framework, and sometimes, even the wording, of the Roman plays of
Shakespeare, Beaumont and Fletcher, Ben Jonson and Massinger. These plays and their leading
figures undoubtedly made a special appeal to the Elizabethan playgoer, who perhaps drew a
parallel between the history of those days and the stirring times in which he himself was living. We
may, indeed, note here that it was easy for the English to identify themselves with the Romans,
whose occupation of Britain had left so firm an impression on their life, laws, and language, and
whose feeling for order, justice, and personal integrity in administration they had inherited. In later
times, when the English, like Romans, became great Empire builders, their writers and orators
often expressed their pride in this similarity of ideals and achievements.Shakespeare himself must
have been keenly conscious of this affinity between his countrymen and their ancient

Radio Frequency Identification in Warehouse Management
Radio frequency identification in warehouse management
Introduction
Radio Frequency identification involves a small electronic device that has a small chip and
antenna. 2,000 bytes of data can be carried by this chip. RFID devices give an object or product
its unique identifier, just in the same way that bar codes and magnetic strips which are placed
behind credit, ATM or debit cards. The data stored on the chip is only accessible when on scans the
device and then the information is captured on the computer. Though one needs to scan the RFID
device to gain access to the data, it is not mandatory that one places the scanner directly beside the
chip. The chips can be read from approximately 20 feet as it does not use line of sight. This gives
RFID a greater advantage over the other methods for automated data collection. RFID use radio
waves to transmit a signal that can be read by a reader thus enabling the chip to transmit
information to the scanner which then converts the data to machine readable
information(Taghaboni Dutta Velthouse, 2006).
RFID devices can be semi passive, active, or passive. Passive devices are powered when
electromagnetic waves are sent to it thus inducing electric current to the devices antenna. Semi
passive devices use battery and waves that are sent from the scanner. Active devices use batteries
to power the chip in order for it to broadcast a signal to the scanner. Semi passive and active devices
are mostly used for goods that need to be scanned

Anthrax was slaughtering farm animals mostly, sheep; through investigations of healthy and
diseased animals he was able to cultivate a vaccine to control the bacteria. (Toledo Pereyra,

the viral disease called rabies. Rabies attacks the central nervous system of warm blooded

appearance of being sick, crazed, act vicious or may be over friendly, docile, and confused.
Human symptoms may be pain or tingling sensation from the bite site, high fever, confusion,
seizures and coma. Once an animal or individual is infected and they show signs of symptoms
they rarely live. (Symptoms). Pasteur began his investigations by studying infected rabies
animals to get an understanding of the disease s cycle. He discovered that the spinal cords of
dying rabbits with rabies could be kept no infected by maintaining them in a sterile, dried air for
two weeks. He developed a system of various concentrations of inoculated material; he was able

How Did Iago Sabotage Othello s Relationship With Desdemona
After reading and studying William Shakespeare s classic story of Othello, I have concluded that
Iago sabotages Othello s relationship with Desdemona because he was jealous of him. While
analyzing different critics opinions and views on Iago s motives, I found many contrasting ideas
and discovered that not all are aligned with my initial hypothesis. What I am going to examine is:
Why did Iagosabotage Othellos relationship with Desdemona? How did Iago sabotage Othello s
relationship with Desdemona? And what were the effects of him sabotaging Othello s relationship
with Desdemona? Through my chosen critics analyses and my own reading and studying of the
text, I hope to prove my statement is correct. I expected my research to prove that Iago s... Show

Paris also states that Iago is afraid of love and of any other passion which would undermine his
self sufficiency or interfere with his calculated pursuit of his own interests. Love for him means
weakness and vulnerability. He also believes that Iago relies upon his intellectual powers for the
manipulation of others and the mastery of life, and he dreads anything which will disturb their
functioning. Paris thinks that the reason for Iago acting as he did is because his vindictiveness
stems from impulses to take revenge for humiliations suffered in childhood . Iago abandons love
as a value, defends himself against his frustration by scorning what he cannot have, and tries to
overcome his feelings of self hate and worthlessness through the pursuit of mastery and triumph.
Paris also thinks Iago needs to be liked, trusted and approved but he cannot admit these desires to
himself because they conflict with his aggression and would expose him to rejection. By playing
the role of honest Iago , he gains the confidence of Othello, Cassio and Desdemona and he assures
himself that he is only fooling them to further his aggressive ends. The lieutenancy was the
immediate prize for which Iago had been scheming. Gaining it would have verified his estimate of
his own abilities, assured him of Othello s love and admiration and

During Odysseus journey back home to Ithaca, him and his crew encountered many evils and
troubles. Almost every one of these took at least one of his men. Scylla is an example of this.
This monster took six of Odysseus men while on the journey home. Nearly ever was it Odysseus
fault. His men caused most of the problems that haunted them back to Ithaca. His hardships started
when he was sent off to fight in the Trojan War. He had to fight because he had made an oath to
Helen s husband that he would always defend her honor. When Paris abducted Helen he was then

Essay On Universal Healthcare
Universal Healthcare
Ashley Powell
Simpson College
Abstract
People today consider America one of the world s greatest countries. Many Americans enjoy a high
standard of living compared to many other parts of the world. Yet somehow the health care system
in America ranks number 37 in the world. (The World Health Organization s ranking of the world s
health system) Although the United States is known to be one of the most advanced countries in the
entire world, they spend more money on healthcare than any other country. (Zablit) America does
not have universal healthcare coverage. Ultimately, lives are being lost due to proper and
affordable healthcare being out of reach for some citizens.
Without universal healthcare coverage each American is responsible for obtaining their own health
insurance. This can be done through their employer or private insurance companies and the person
is responsible for the monthly premium as well as a deductible, co pay, or other portion of the
healthcare service. The insurance company covers the remaining costs. (Q A: US healthcare reform)
The American health care system does accommodate all its citizens. Medicare is one of the most
important arrangements in the healthcare scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by a supplementary tax on their income. Here every citizen is under health coverage their entire
lifetime regardless of any other requirement. Due to such a structure, preventive medication may be
used for the overall health of the country. This pattern also helps in keeping the cost of prescription
drugs low, thus making healthcare affordable.

Media Effects On Children And Adolescents
The world that we lived in is all surrounding with media, people use the media every day and
everything; such as watching television, using the computer, and talking on the phone. On the
media we could learn and find out the information that we need. And we can also share our
personal information on the media. Media gives us a lot of convenient in our life, but there are
also some negative impacts. Media has a lot of negative impacts which it could be affected on
children and adolescents. The article Media and Risky Behaviors by Escobar Chaves is discussed
about the media effects that cause the risky behavior of the adolescents. In the article there are five
types of teenager health risk behaviors identified by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC): obesity, smoking, drinking, sexual risk taking, and violent. Escobar also
mention those risk behaviors in his article. Adolescents and children who spend more time on
watching television and movie will more likely to be overweight. Study shows that most people
increase their energy intake when they were watching television and movie. But also, long period
of sitting time is another reason that may cause the obesity. Furthermore, when people are
watching television and movies, they will stay in one position for a long period of time. Children
and adolescents who are overweight are more likely to become overweight when they were adult.
Also poor eating habit will also cause obesity; for example, when watching

The Effects of Media on Women s Self Esteem Essay
In 2001, actress Kate Winslet caused controversy over a statement she made about her weight.
She told Britian s Radio Times that she needed to lose weight or I won t work. She was referring
to the nearly fifty pounds she gained during her pregnancy, but fans were still upset over the
famously curvy actress s confession. Then, in 2003, Winslet shocked fans and critics alike when
she expressed her distaste for GQ Magazine s digitally slimmed pictures of her (Tauber, 2001).
The most recent criticism of Winslet was in 2008. She appeared in Vanity Fair Magazine looking
slightly thinner than normal, and many people were judging Winslet for being hypocritical. Winslet

Also, because Barbie s body proportions are so extreme, she would have to walk on her hands
and knees. Her bust is so big and her feet are so small she would just topple forward trying to
walk normally (Page, n.d.). Knowing this, why are children still given this doll, if it portrays
such an unrealistic body type that young girls are going to learn to strive for? Another example
of the unattainable body portrayed to young women is magazine covers with airbrushed women.
Like previously discussed, Kate Winslet was under a critical eye for this issue. Many magazines
like Teen Vogue, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan market to young girls, and portray unattainable
beauty. On top of the airbrushing done to make the cover women to appear thinner, actresses and
models are constantly pressured to be thinner. Actress Charlize Theron confessed in an interview
that she is naturally a size eight and she feels weak when she is not her natural size (Tauber,
2001). While flipping through the channels, it is rare that the average person would not come
across one of reality television s new fads: plastic surgery reality shows. Most of these shows have
average women competing for plastic surgery to make them look extraordinary. This gives a
message to young girls that everyone is getting plastic surgery and they are not attractive if they do
not. With all these examples of unattainable beauty constantly

Analysis of Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum
Why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria ; by Beverly Daniel Tatum Ph.D. is a
book of many subjects, theories, ideas, as well as opinions that are discussed, challenged and
criticized. Are we free from racism? Why, are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria?
These questions I hope to answer for myself and for others.
One of Beverly Tatum s major topics of discussion is racial identity. Racial identity is the meaning
each of us has constructed or is constructing about what it means to be a white person or a person
of color in a race conscious society. (Tatum, pp Xvii) She talks about how many parents... Show

They are all examples of groups who are seen as more dominant or of a more advantaged social
group not mentioning so. They don t seem to think that they belong to a more dominant or
advantaged group than the others so why mention it.
She goes on about Affirmative action in the workplace and the views and opinions of all
different kinds of people. Tatum believes in Affirmative action because of the many encounters
and experiences she had witness and encountered. She goes on to say, Affirmative action is
needed to lessen bias in the paid labor force because affirmative action is the only legal remedy
in the United States for discrimination that does not require the victims (or someone with a
stake in their welfare) to notice their condition and come forward with a grievance on their own
behalf. ; (Tatum pp 123) In my opinion Affirmative action is a touchy subject, just like abortion.
There are places where it should belong and places it shouldn t. I think it should be implemented
in places of business where needed. For example if two candidates for a position are interviewed
for a job and one happens to be white and the other black, and the black candidate is obviously
more qualified for the job but doesn t get the job then that is a place where Affirmative action
needs to b added to the system. It is sad that something like Affirmative action even had to be
thought of but it is a reality that racism still exists and probably will continue to

Death Foretold Themes
Gabriel Garcia Marquez s novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, bring attention to many factors in
Colombian culture that relate to multiple themes. One of the most prominent themes in the novel
would be collective responsibility. As a person reads the novel they would notice how collective
responsibility ties in with the many different aspects of Colombian culture and helps the other
themes to show this along. Gabriel connects these different themes seamlessly to the point where
they are hard to pick out. However, as mentioned before as the most prominent theme, collective
responsibility was the most distinguishable. Gabriel seamlessly blends this into the novel
throughout it, with the people knowing about the plan to murder Santiago and... Show more content

  • 2. The Effects of Market Orientation and Service Innovation... Abstract This study examines how market orientation affects a firm s service innovation and consequently, the firm s market and financial performance. The findings indicate that if firms use customer orientation, the firm is more likely to adopt incremental service innovation, while if a firm uses competitor orientation, the firmis more likely to adopt radical service innovation. Finally, incremental and radical service innovations lead to greater market performance and in turn, greater financial performance. 1 Introduction How service firms use market orientation has attracted great attention in innovation literature (Agarwal et al. 2003; Manzano et al. 2005). Market orientation refers to the organizational culture that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inter functional coordination, a third component of market orientation, coordinates a firm s resources and market related activities. Because customer and competitive orientations are two primary ways that service firms use to cope with markets (Zhou et al. 2009), this study focuses on the customer and competitor orientations and regards inter functional coordination as a control variable. The degree of service innovation ranges from a totally new or discontinuous innovation to a service involving a minor improvement or a dramatic change (Griffin, 1997; Avlonitis et al., 2001; Garcia and Calantone, 2002). Although several service innovation types have been proposed (Gadrey et al. 1995; Debackere et al. 1998; Avlonitis et al. 2001; Berry et al. 2006; Paswan et al. 2009), in this study, because we are concerned with the greatest and the least degree of service innovation, service innovation is differentiated into incremental and radical innovation. Such a differentiation has been frequently used in similar innovation research (Olsen and Sallis 2006; Min et al. 2006; Song and Thieme 2009). Incremental service innovation is related to customer led strategies that focus on manifest needs (Connor 1999; Slater and Narver 1999) and is posited to be the most common form of innovation (Bell et al. 2002; Slater and Narver 1999). Customer led businesses focus on understanding the expressed desires of the customers in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Music As A Predictor For Personality For years, music has been an important part of the lives of millions of people all over the world. Music is one of the earliest forms of expressive art and is part of many cultures. It is used by all people of different ages, ethnicities, and gender for many purposes. For many, music is a part of everyday life, being used in social situations. For others, it may be used just as a way to unwind after a long, stressful day, but can it be used to as a predictor for personality? Do people who experience high/low levels of aggression and self esteem listen to particular genres? Psychologists have started to study how musicexactly can lead to an understanding on human behavior. Over the past years, numerous researchers have shown interest in musical preferences and how they relate to personality traits as well (Cattell Anderson, 1953; Dollinger, 1993). However, because of changes in music and its lyrical content over time, music itself has become an issue of interest and concern. Music and lyrical content have become gradually more explicit with references to drugs, sex, and violence. The anti social themes overall have lead many adults, mostly parents of young children and teens, to rally against it, especially heavy metal and rap. The anti social themes have also lead the study of music s impact on emotion and behavior. Statement of Problem Despite the growing interest and concern, there has been limited research analyzing the relationship between music, personality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. What Are Ah Goong s Achievements In The Book China Men Weekly Reflection: Week 11 China Men Question #2 Known for her notable achievements in memoirs and fiction, Maxine Hong Kingston published China Men: a literature composed of stories about Chinese men in her family. One story distinguishes the heroic journey of grandfather Ah Goong. Ah Goong worked to build the railroad, but was driven out when it was completed in 1869; he then became a homeless wanderer in San Francisco. Upon hearing this fact, Kingston s family called him Fleaman as they did not understand his accomplishments as an American ancestor, a holding, homing ancestor of this place (Kingston 151). What Kingston actually meant by Ah Goong being an American ancestor was that he had many accomplishments, but those achievements weren t communicated to Kingston s family. To support this claim, I will talk about how Ah Goong s accomplishments were silenced by photography and by unfortunate circumstances.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He moved his scaffold to the next section of cliff and went down in the basket again, with bags of dirt, and set the next charge (Kingston 131). Ah Goong and his Chinese laborers worked their shifts day and night with little pay; a railroad strike demanding more pay later gave the Chinese workers four extra dollars. Finally, when Ah Goong and his team finished the transcontinental railroad, their works weren t credited. The white demons covered up their hard work and instead had Anglo Saxon whites pose for railroad photographs. While the demons posed for photographs, the China Men dispersed (Kingston 145). • 6. Transcendental Anticipation Report In English class we did a Transcendental Anticipation Guide which would lead us into a bigger project. This assignment gave us multiple controversial statements and we would write down whether we agreed or not and why. We also had to come up with our own definitions to words we did not recognize and compare these to the definitions of other people and those in the dictionary. We would then talk about our answers and what we wrote down among the classroom. We would discuss why we put what we put which would sometimes lead people to change their answers. Before our actual class discussion we did a little preparing. This included looking up the definitions to several words and writing them down. If we didn t understand what a statement was saying ... • 7. Proctor and Gamble Scope Case Essay Proctor and Gamble Scope Case Analysis 1) What significant changes have occurred in the Canadian mouthwash market in the past three years? The mouthwash market had grown on an average increase of 3% per year for 12 years. Then in 1987, with the introduction of new flavors it shot up 26%, and after that it continued at a steady increase of 5% per year. Originally, Listerine was the market leader. It positioned itself as a germ killing mouthwash that eliminated bad breath. Scope was introduced in 1967 as a green, mint tasting mouthwash that was mouth refreshing and provided bad breath protection. Scope branded itself not only protection to bad breath, but also that it tasted better than the other mouthwashes available. Competitors of Scope... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In food stores, Scope held a 42% market share, whereas in drugstores, it only held a 27$ market share. This is significant because drugstores are where 65% of mouthwash sales come from, and only 25% of sales come from food stores. Scope is priced slightly below average at food stores and 16% below average at drugstores. Listerine and Listermint are priced above average at food stores and slightly below average at drugstores. Overall, Scope has a strong presence in the market for mouthwash. It has the leading market share in the Canadian market. Consumers that purchase Scope do so because it is better tasting than other mouthwashes that prevent bad breath. Scope excels in food stores, but has room to increase sales in drugstores because that is where most mouthwash purchases occur. With the introduction of Plax, Scope s market share could potentially be threatened. The market is shifting towards health related benefits of mouthwash and not just fresh breath and good taste. 3) What are the pros and cons of the options available for Scope? A) Do nothing: One option available for Scope is to remain status quo. Scope is already the leading market shareholder in mouthwash in the Canadian market. The cost of Scope is below market averages and is already perceived as a quality product. Two of the most important reasons for consumers to buy a mouthwash include to get rid of bad breath and that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, aside from a brief reference to the cycle of the seasons, where Thoreau says that he lived a summer and a winter life; saw how [he] could let the years run off, buffet the winter through and see the spring come in, this chapter gains seasonal association through the knowledge that Thoreau went to Walden in the summer. The Ponds brings us explicitly into autumn progressing from a calm September afternoon, to such a day in September or October, to a November after the severe frosts have come. The Pond in Winter brings the seasonal theme into the title and finally the culmination of, Spring. Where I Lived, and What I Lived For begins Walden s central narrative. Economy addresses the practicalities and the surface narrative, but Where I Lived, and What I Lived For lays out the groundwork for the extended metaphor that serves as Walden s symbolic backbone. Time is but the stream I go a fishing in, I drink at; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars, Thoreau tells us at the end of the chapter. This quote illustrates two concepts that recur again and again in Walden. First, the idea of water as simultaneously shallow and deep. Thoreau first proclaims that he can see the bottom of the stream but then elaborates, implying that there is something beyond the ... • 12. Socrates Reflection Paper In 470 B.C.E Greek Philosopher, Socrates developed a theory that is supposed to clarify how humans obtained knowledge through the soul. Through the Recollection theory, Socrates tells and shows how human were supposedly born with non empirical knowledge by stating how humans remembered what they past knew from re living the experience. Therefore he claims that the soul existed before birth, proving that the human soul is immortal. Socrates began to describe how humans don t obtain knowledge by learning instead, he stated that we humans simply recollect what we already know. Our idea of a triangle, for instance, didn t derive from sitting in a geometry class and learning about different shapes, we simply were already born with this knowledge. He believes that humans were already so familiar with many things/aspects of life because we already knew about them and thus seen them, through the world of forms. He states that we recollect by experiencing. So if we live life and experience, our knowledge will slowly come back to us. Socrates believes that humans know what we know now because of our souls engagement in the world of forums. Socrates then states that when the soul connects to a body, we then depend on the body to help us recollect that obtained and given knowledge to us by our souls. How does this process work exactly? How do we recollect our knowledge? Well according to Socrates by simply living life. Socrates states that there are three principal means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Use Of Drug Induced Gingival Overgrowth 3.1Subtitle: Introduction Gingival enlargement is the overgrowth of gingiva characterized by an expansion and accumulation of the connective tissue with occasional presence of increased number of cells. Drug induced gingival overgrowth is known as an adverse effect with three types of drug: Phenytoin, an antiepileptic; Cyclosporine A, an immunosuppressant; and Calcium channel blockers, such as dihydropyridines (nifedipine), diltiazem, and verapamil, which are widely prescribed for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases. п‚—This is characterized by an accumulation of extracellular matrix within the gingival connective tissue, particularly the collagenous component, with various degrees of chronic inflammatory inflammation. (Yamasaki, 1987) п‚—It remains unknown why drugs with such different pharmacological actions induce similar gingival overgrowth. п‚—The genetically determined capacity of the host to deal metabolically with chronically administered drugs, the responsiveness of gingival tissue to the drugs, and preexisting gingival condition, including inflammation may, differ among individuals. п‚—Although the pathology of drug induced gingival overgrowth is not definitively known п‚—These disorders seem to be induced through the disruption of the homeostasis of collagen synthesis and degradation in gingival connective tissues. ... Oftentimes, a quote like that can easily be disregarded, however, it is applicable to people who aren t always who they seem to be. Shakespeare s play the Merchant of Venice is an outstanding work that contains a very strange villain in Shylock, who is hated by all, although he has not wronged them in the past. Thusly, his habits and personality evolved from his interactions with the Venetian populous. By examining the changes Shylock displays in tone, Shylock the villain s motivations can be seen and ultimately display that no matter how twisted a person is or may seem, the motivations behind their actions indicate that innately they have a... However, as is with most cases, there are two sides to each story. To understand the motivation behind Shylock s obsession with money, the beginning of the play has to be referenced. In Shylock s negotiations with Bassanio and Antonio, Shylock recalls, Signior Antonio, many a time and oft in the Rialto you have rated me about my moneys and my usances... You call me misbeliever, cutthroat dog and spet upon my Jewish gabardine... You called me dog; and for these courtesies I ll lend you thus much moneys? (1.3.104 126). From this passage, Shylock s motivations are presented clearly. He loathes Antonio for how poorly he has treated him in the past, insulting both his character and his religion. Therefore, the motivating factor in lending money to Bassanio is so Shylock has the ability to hold some form of power over Antonio. Therein lies the key to Shylock s obsession with wealth. In the referenced Venetian culture, Jewish people were persecuted for their religion and were branded unsavory by the predominantly Christian community. Shylock, being ridiculed and domineered his whole life by his Christian counterparts, saw an opportunity to finally even the odds and jumped at it. It was, however, still primitive to modern standards, because they still had a King and Queen and no indoor plumbing. This blend of primitive and modern makes medieval castle life an interesting and intriguing time to live. A medieval castleusually had five main buildings: The hall, the kitchen, barracks/living quarters/supply buildings, water rooms, and a chapel. The hall often had stone or wooden pillars the supported its wooden roof and if the hall was on the second floor it was supported by stone or wooden pillars as well. The floor that these pillars supported was almost always wooden or if they could afford it stone vaulting. The floor was often wooden and covered in rushes and herbs that would be changed periodically. Carpet was only used on walls and tables until the fourteenth century. • 16. Plato s Levels Of Reality Final Essay: Plato s Levels of Reality 1.Introduction Plato, arguably one of the most famous philosophers in history is known for his dialogues and theory of Forms. The theory of Forms argues that ideas (non physical forms) are more real than tangible objects or what our senses perceive. According to Plato, there is the visible realm and intelligible realm. Reality could be divided into three different levels; the level of appearances, the real level, and the ideal level which he explains through the analogy of the Divided Line in The Republic. By viewing reality in this bifurcated way, it is still philosophically useful to an extent as it provides different perspectives to worldly problems. It forces humans to critically evaluate their knowledge, along with ethical and practical considerations and practices When adopting this view, it should be done so with caution as there are still some flaws within this way of thinking. 2.Main Body An extension of the Sun simile where Plato attempts to explain goodness and the nature of reality and knowledge, the Divided Line extrapolates on the relationship between the two realities and their corresponding knowledge. The line is divided into two unequal parts the smaller part would be the Visible Realm while the larger part would be the Intelligible realm . The two parts are then divided into two unequal parts again of the same ratio the smaller part of the Visible realm is labelled Shadows and Images while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With outstanding extrusions of quartzite, tillite and limestone, it s a favored destination for hikers, rock climbers and scientists. The quartzite is considered the most unique feature of Rock Canyon as it s one of the few clear and distinct examples of the sedimentary processes involved with a shallow marine setting. The tillite beneath the quartzite draws attention to the ancient glaciers to the past. In conjunction with the active Wasatch Fault found at its doorstep, Rock Canyon is an important place in Utah for geologists. To begin, the mouth of the canyon features a hilly landscape with scars from landslides created from the uplifting of land by the Wasatch Fault. The fault, responsible for the creation of the Wasatch Mountains 25 million years ago, is a normal fault (Eldredge, 2014). Unlike some faults, vertical movement of the terrain is limited and slippage only occurs every several hundred or thousand years. Signs of the fault at work can be seen through the mouth of the canyon with the orange Tintic Quartzite which is dated back to the Cambrian Age. Layered beneath the quartzite is tillite from the Precambrian Age. To the west and separate from the Quartzite and tillite by the Wasatch Vault are limestone sections from the Missippian Age. Although, many people think that long distance relationships are impossible to maintain, there are solutions to this problem for college students who are separated by distance. The New Yorkergoes into great detail about how Machiavelli came up from a mid level family to achieve a role as a government official/ ambassador just to be thrown in prison after years of trying to stabilize and unify an unstable country through means of war and fear. While many ethnographers have continued using literal media to present their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways. Fortunately, with the growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and the digital media have become increasingly intertwined in their use. To begin with, Frost makes literal implications about what the two men are doing. For instance, they are physically putting the stones back, one by one. • 30. The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call, Tomasello, 2009). The paper begins with a summary of each of the articles referenced on the title page, including the pros (benefits) and cons (risks) of each method. The paper then addresses how the two methods might be applied to my company, Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), an enterprise software solutions provider headquartered in Needham, MA, with about 6,000 employees in over 70 offices worldwide. Finally, the paper concludes with my views on which of the two methods would be more valuable in a development setting. The authors of the article, Risks of Rapid Application Development, open by cautioning that software development includes or should include more than the speed at which an application is delivered, identifying maintainability and reusability as equally important characteristics. The purpose of the article is to fill a gap in the literature (at the time of the writing of the article) about the long term implications of RAD tools on both the software itself and the organizations and developers who use it. The authors emphasize that the choice to use RAD is not just a capability decision, it is also a human resources management decision. In addition to a much faster development lifecycle, RAD tools also include requirements planning, design and modeling, code writing, and testing, with the requirements and design phases accounting for about 30% of ... Another drawback of FHA insured loans to some people is the requirement that borrowers must reside in the house and use it as their primary residence. These plays and their leading figures undoubtedly made a special appeal to the Elizabethan playgoer, who perhaps drew a parallel between the history of those days and the stirring times in which he himself was living. We may, indeed, note here that it was easy for the English to identify themselves with the Romans, whose occupation of Britain had left so firm an impression on their life, laws, and language, and whose feeling for order, justice, and personal integrity in administration they had inherited. • 43. Radio Frequency Identification in Warehouse Management Radio frequency identification in warehouse management Introduction Radio Frequency identification involves a small electronic device that has a small chip and antenna. 2,000 bytes of data can be carried by this chip. RFID devices give an object or product its unique identifier, just in the same way that bar codes and magnetic strips which are placed behind credit, ATM or debit cards. The data stored on the chip is only accessible when on scans the device and then the information is captured on the computer. Though one needs to scan the RFID device to gain access to the data, it is not mandatory that one places the scanner directly beside the chip. The chips can be read from approximately 20 feet as it does not use line of sight. This gives RFID a greater advantage over the other methods for automated data collection. RFID use radio waves to transmit a signal that can be read by a reader thus enabling the chip to transmit information to the scanner which then converts the data to machine readable information(Taghaboni Dutta Velthouse, 2006). RFID devices can be semi passive, active, or passive. Passive devices are powered when electromagnetic waves are sent to it thus inducing electric current to the devices antenna. The most recent criticism of Winslet was in 2008. She appeared in Vanity Fair Magazine looking slightly thinner than normal, and many people were judging Winslet for being hypocritical. Winslet s rep said that she was not airbrushed to look thinner, that that is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, because Barbie s body proportions are so extreme, she would have to walk on her hands and knees. Her bust is so big and her feet are so small she would just topple forward trying to walk normally (Page, n.d.). Knowing this, why are children still given this doll, if it portrays such an unrealistic body type that young girls are going to learn to strive for? Another example of the unattainable body portrayed to young women is magazine covers with airbrushed women. Like previously discussed, Kate Winslet was under a critical eye for this issue. Many magazines like Teen Vogue, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan market to young girls, and portray unattainable beauty. On top of the airbrushing done to make the cover women to appear thinner, actresses and models are constantly pressured to be thinner. Actress Charlize Theron confessed in an interview that she is naturally a size eight and she feels weak when she is not her natural size (Tauber, 2001). While flipping through the channels, it is rare that the average person would not come across one of reality television s new fads: plastic surgery reality shows. Most of these shows have average women competing for plastic surgery to make them look extraordinary. This gives a message to young girls that everyone is getting plastic surgery and they are not attractive if they do not. With all these examples of unattainable beauty constantly ... • 52. Analysis of Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together... Analysis of Why are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria by Beverly Daniel Tatum Why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria ; by Beverly Daniel Tatum Ph.D. is a book of many subjects, theories, ideas, as well as opinions that are discussed, challenged and criticized. Are we free from racism? Why, are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria? These questions I hope to answer for myself and for others. One of Beverly Tatum s major topics of discussion is racial identity. Racial identity is the meaning each of us has constructed or is constructing about what it means to be a white person or a person of color in a race conscious society. (Tatum, pp Xvii) She talks about how many parents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are all examples of groups who are seen as more dominant or of a more advantaged social group not mentioning so. They don t seem to think that they belong to a more dominant or advantaged group than the others so why mention it. She goes on about Affirmative action in the workplace and the views and opinions of all different kinds of people. Tatum believes in Affirmative action because of the many encounters and experiences she had witness and encountered. She goes on to say, Affirmative action is needed to lessen bias in the paid labor force because affirmative action is the only legal remedy in the United States for discrimination that does not require the victims (or someone with a stake in their welfare) to notice their condition and come forward with a grievance on their own behalf. ; (Tatum pp 123) In my opinion Affirmative action is a touchy subject, just like abortion. There are places where it should belong and places it shouldn t. I think it should be implemented in places of business where needed. For example if two candidates for a position are interviewed for a job and one happens to be white and the other black, and the black candidate is obviously more qualified for the job but doesn t get the job then that is a place where Affirmative action needs to b added to the system. It is sad that something like Affirmative action even had to be thought of but it is a reality that racism still exists and probably will continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most prominent themes in the novel would be collective responsibility. As a person reads the novel they would notice how collective responsibility ties in with the many different aspects of Colombian culture and helps the other themes to show this along. Gabriel connects these different themes seamlessly to the point where they are hard to pick out. However, as mentioned before as the most prominent theme, collective responsibility was the most distinguishable. Gabriel seamlessly blends this into the novel throughout it, with the people knowing about the plan to murder Santiago and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
