This is a characterization report on a short story by...
Brother Death
Control has many different meanings for many different people. To most, however, this word
brings to mind one person forcing another do his or her will, but other things have control over
people as well. Sherwood Anderson shows two examples of control in Don and Ted. These two
characters have problems created by their difficult lives. The other characters personalities either
help or hinder the children, creating a family with a constant conflict until one of the characters
either changes, or disappears from the story all together.
Brother Death by Sherwood Anderson is a short story about power. Don and Ted both want to be in
control of their life, but different circumstances take that away from them. Ted wants to live... Show

She describes what they look like and even gives a little background on them so the reader can
get a better idea of their personalities. Ted changes once during the story, with the help of his
sister, Mary. Before this change occurred, the family always made him upset by never letting
him do the things that he wants to do. They constantly watched him and told him to be careful,
not letting him run or play. Mary, seeing the injustice of this, decided to do something about it.
One day, when Ted and Mary got back from swimming in the creek, Louise, their mother, told
Ted he mustn t. The rest of her sentence left unsaid, but nonetheless clearly understood. He
mustn t do all the dangerous things he does. While Ted left out of anger, Mary stayed her ground
and argued for her brother, telling Louise she should stop reminding Ted of his illness and leave
him alone to do as he pleased. Her argument took Louise by surprise so much that she decides, to
Ted s great joy, to give the children their freedom. When he dies at the end of the story, Mary
feels he had a happy life. Don, in Mary s mind, had the hardest life of all.
The conflict between Don and his father John shows another way situations in life can have control
over someone. Anderson describes Don as almost an exact copy of his father in everything from his
personality to his looks. Anderson shows her readers using direct characterization a

The Comanche Tribe
The Comanche Tribe is made up of brilliant horsemen who took control of the Southern Plains.
They are most known for playing a large role in Texas frontier during most of the eighteenth and
nineteenth centuries. Although the Comanche s lived near the upper reaches of the Platte River in
eastern Wyoming, they later established themselves from western Oklahoma to the TexasPanhandle
into New Mexico. Today, currently 5,000 Comanches live near Lawton, Oklahoma; their tribal
headquarters. Although the name Comanche fits the tribe, considering that the meaning of the
word is enemy or, in literal terms, anyone who wants to fight me all the time , the tribal members
call themselves Nermernuh, or the People . According to the website, Texas... Show more content on

The relationship that developed between trades quickly faded due to the new Texans settling on the
Comanches traditional hunting ground. The Comanches often raided settlements from San Antonio
to Mexico. Information coming from the website, Texas State Historical Association Comanche
Indians suggests that In May 1836 a particular destructive raid occurred at Fort Parker, a
settlement of some thirty four persons near the Navasota River in the future Limestone Country.
Comacnhes and their Kiowa allies attacked the blockhouse, killed several settlers, and took five
hostages, including nine year old Cynthia Ann Parker, who lived with the Comanches for twenty
four years (18). Trying to stop the Comanche attacks, Sam Houston focused on creating peace and
friendship, but Texas congress refused to come to an agreement. After succeeding Sam Houston,
Mirabeau B. Lamar closed the door to the peace policy and favored going to war with the

Break Up Research Paper
Breakups are commonly messy and hard to get through. A myriad of emotions follow a bad
breakup anger, frustration, pain, and depression is just a few. More than just these negative
feelings, breakups usually entail negative thoughts that often occupy one s mind most of the time,
especially if the incident had recently occurred. For some, moving on seems like the biggest
hurdle of all and getting used to being single again is just as tough. Studies have shown that
different events trigger different chemical reactions in the brain and that the more one particular
reaction occurs, the more the brain will develop this kind of thinking and affect one s emotions.
This means that the more one dwells on the negative emotions after a breakup, the more it will be
difficult for the brain to adjust and try to be positive again.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While most people find it easier to sulk and dive into depression, it is better to proactively deal
with your emotions before it takes over you. One way of truly moving on and getting rid of
negative emotions is to face these thoughts and let them out in various ways. You can let off steam
by going to the gym and working out, talking it out with a friend or participating in activities that
will get your mind off your thoughts and feelings. Even if you end up alone and still depressed in
your bed at the end of the day, at least you have let out your feelings through communicating with
your friends or de stressing through exercise. Remember that the more you let out your emotions,
the less stress you will feel

Earth Bound Telescopes
Clearly the better and stronger our telescopes and other methods used to evaluate the sky will
result in further discoveries. Not only do we have Earth bound telescopes; we have telescopes in
the sky that can get even closer to other matter whether that be planets, stars, comets, asteroids, etc.
The textbook also notes radial velocity and how the gravitational pull of a planetresults in the star
wobbling. If the wobble happens to occur along our line of sight to the star, then we see small
fluctuations in the star s radial velocity, which can be measured using the Doppler effect (Chaisson
McMillan, 2014, p 371) allowing us to estimate the mass of the planet (Chaisson McMillan, 2014, p
371). I found this website: http://www.planetary.org/explore/space topics/exoplanets/how to search
for exoplanets.html that gives three ways. They are noted as radial velocity (already stated); transit
photometry (having to do with the brightness or lack thereof of a star when another planet passes
between it and the Earth(How to Search for Exoplanets)), and Microlensing (stated as the only real
method that is capable of discovering other planets at huge distances from Earth (How to Search for
Exoplanets)). It further notes that while radial velocity can identify them within 100 light years,
transit photometry can identify them more than 100 light years (100 s in fact), and transit
photometry can find those that are thousands of light years away. I need to understand... Show more

Theme Of Male Desire In Philadelphia Fire
Objects of Male Desire
In his novel, Philadelphia Fire, John Edgar Wideman takes on the task of reimagining the African
American male. While this role may seem daunting to some it was a challenge that Wideman
accepted. Through various forms of written and spoken language Wideman follows the male
narrative of Cudjoe as he tries to understand what happened on the day of the MOVE bombing.
Wideman challenges the reader s idea of a typical novel. He aims to give a new perspective on the
African American and does so in a unique and descriptive way. Wideman s re representation of the
African American male fails in a major way. The violation, objectification, and silencing of the
Euro American women in the novel prevents Wideman from changing the perspective the reader
has on African Americans (males specifically). On the back cover of Philadelphia Fire, the novel
is described as, ...the story of Cudjoe, a writer and exile who returns to his old neighborhood
after spending a decade fleeing from his past, and his search for the lone survivor of the fire a
young boy who was seen running from the flames. Based off this description, one would find it
hard to believe that much of the novel depicts Cudjoe oppressing women. To Cudjoe, women are
sexual objects. While on Mykonos he meets a dark haired woman and, She will teach him the
Greek for her body parts. (6) This woman is not given a name, and not given any direct dialogue.
Cudjoe says that he forgets the words as soon as she

Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood
The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed.
But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a
cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main
character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a womans power to exercise their control
over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain
code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows
her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence.
In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her
standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box
seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this
represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved
and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her
perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that
Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others
and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute.
Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics.
Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is

Essay about History of Home Schooling
History of Home Schooling
Before public schools emerged, children were educated in the home by their parents. They were
taught arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a
tutor for their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead
a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued
that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. As a
result of their efforts, public elementary schools evolved in American society by the end of the 19th
century. Massachusetts was the first state to pass a compulsory attendance law, ruling that all
children had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many parents followed Holt in his ideas about education and still home school their children based
on Holt s philosophy (Koetzsch, 1997).
The Christian home school movement began in the United States during the 1980 s. Conservative
Christian families believe in a literal translation of the bible and generally have conservative social
views. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative
Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by
violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home
schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents
were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws
allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997).
Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling
There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be
divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children
for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children
better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). Parents decide to home school due to
religious reasons because parents have

Logan Feys Arguments On Being Individual
Being individual means being unique and like no other; however, the conflicting norms of society
wear down upon the abilities of people who stand out amongst others. Logan Feys argues that we
are under constant pressure to give up our individuality while living in society. In agreeance with
Feys argument we should have our own values and we shouldn t try to be like everyone else.
Society does pressure us constantly to give up our individuality, but we should have our own
values. Society tends to judge others who stand out just because they don t look like everyone
else in the crowd. For instance, Society looks down upon freakish and extraordinary individuals
alike and views them with suspicions (Feys 4). This proves that society looks down on
individuals who are completely different from them. However, the Leopard Man doesn t care if
society isn t happy with his appearance. He doesn t live off of society s approval. He seeks his
own values and happiness with the choices he makes. As long as you re happy with what you re
doing then society s opinion shouldn t matter. Your life shouldn t be based on their approval of you.
We are different from one another and that should be noted. ... Show more content on

We are individual human beings and that shouldn t be given up. Thus, To be human is to be an
individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values, and dreams that are distinct from those
of others (6). We should be free from social pressures with our individuality while living in
society. Society wants everyone to not stand out from each other. We are pressured to give up our
individuality publicly, but others want to stand out from the crowd. They would like to be the
odd ones out. There is no need to be like everyone else when we were all born differently because
we all want to do different things in our

Socrates, A Classical Greek Philosopher
Socrates, born in 470 BC in Athens, Greece, was a classical Greek philosopher and is believed to
be one of the founders of Western philosophy. He lived a good 71 years until his death in 399 BC.
Although Socrates never wrote anything down, we still know quite a bit about him. Everything we
know, we have learned through the writings of one of Socratesstudents, Plato. One very famous
phenomenon we learn from Socrates is Socrates Socratic method. It essentially laid down the
building blocks of Western logic and philosophy and it consists of five steps. The first step is to
make a statement; the second is to then look for exceptions. The third step comes in two parts. It
states that if an exception is found then the statement is either imprecise, or flat out false.
Further comes step four that says that if the statement is imprecise then to revise it. Finally step
five is to repeat. A lot of people were not Socrates biggest fans, which leads us to the charges and
trial of Socrates. He was put into trial for being impious and corrupting the youth. Although some
may argue that Socrates was an evil, unjust person that led a bad life and was a troublemaker, I
affirm that Socrates led a good and honorable life due to his great wisdom in admitting that he
knows nothing. His awareness of his own ignorance makes him an admirable person. To begin
with, Socrates was quite the character. His soul life mission consisted of using philosophy to
achieve practical results for the

Advantages And Objectives Of Indian Drug Industry
Chapter 2
Pricing Strategies of Indian Drug Industry
2.1 Introduction:
Price is the value which is paid by the buyer to the manufacturer against the products and services.
It is the value of the product mentioned by the seller to the consumers Pricing decisions are one of
the crucial factors that shapes by cost factors, profit margin, and possibility of sales at different
price levels and the competitor s pricing policy as well as with the number of existing competitors in
the market. Pricing is the most critical element of the marketing mix and firms must make strategic
preferences about how to price their product to achieve their business goals in the best possible
manner by considering the demand and supply relationship. Unlike the three ... Show more content

In present times, loss leaders pricing technique has become the popular method of sales promotion
of product. The purpose of making a product loss leader is to encourage customers to make further
purchases of profitable goods while they are in the shop. Departmental Store or Retailers used to
adopt this strategy for increasing the foot fall in store.
Pricing is a key competitive weapon and a significant part of the marketing mix. If a business
reduced its prices than competitors, new customers may be attracted and existing customers may
become more loyal. Hence using a loss leader pricing can help to divert loyal customers. Using a
loss leader is a short term pricing tactic for any product.
One risk of using a loss leader pricing is that customers can take the opportunity to bulk buy . If the
price discount is sufficiently enough, then it makes sense for customers to buy as much as they can
(assuming the product is not perishable) which leads loss for the manufacturer.

Overview of Cash Flow Management
Cash Flow Management
Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon.,
2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur.
Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This
requires good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow
projections helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without
understanding the cash flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure.
Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for
January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the
January expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits
from February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget
shows enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working
capital for expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget.
Mr. Morello would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can
sometimes be unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the
business needs are met in a timely manner.
In efforts to reduce the interest expense from a loan, community banks and the Small Business
Administration offer lower interest

Real and Cyber World Threats
Every day we are prone to threats against our lives that may harm us in many ways, in the real
world and cyber world. In the cyber realm, we have a big issue with something called malware;
malware is malicious software that comes in many forms. It may attack in many ways at any time
or place; that is why there is a lot of research going into figuring out how malwareworks.
Malware costs people in the US alone billions of dollars yearly (Consumer Reports Magazine).
There are many types of malware such as: Viruses, Trojan horses, Phishing, Worms, and
Spyware. They work in many different ways but they all corrupt something in the everyday lives
of the computer users. First off, Phishing, poses as a real legitimate such as: bank websites. It
wants you to go to the link while it fishes for the data you provide on the site. Spyware is a
monitor of your personal use on your computer. It sends advertising info after it has your data,
this is one of the most difficult to get rid of. Trojan horses, like Phishing, may be covered and
look like a real program and have actual function but it can delete data and compromise security.
A Virus, we all have heard of a virus before. It is the most common known to man. A Virus infects
your computer by overtaking the control of the computer it also looks for sensitive data like, credit
card info, passwords, etc. Lastly, there are Worms. Worms are usually sent through email and they

Cultural Backgrounds And Community Attitudes Prevent Girls...
Thesis statement: The diverse cultural backgrounds and community attitudes prevent girls from
attending schools and thereby act as the barrier in maintaining gender equality in India. The sex
ratio, which is the number of girl students per 1000 male students, in the Indian high schools is 3:1
(boy: girl). The primary reason for the decline in the birth ratio of females in India is mainly
because of the intense treatments inflicted to the girls at the time of their birth. The lowest sexratio
in India is witnessed in Haryana, which reflects 877 females to that of 1000 males. However in
Kerala, the number of females is more than that of males, a ratio of 1000:1084. The major cause

Moreover, the girls after hitting the stage of puberty are believed to be baby makers, where the
only work they have is in the house, raising their child and do various household chores. The two
major factors by which puberty affects well being are self perception and peer association. It is
also seen that the girls suffer a lot because of lack of infrastructure like proper functioning of
toilets and disposals. However, the preference to a male child is mainly because they will act as a
source of support to their family in the near future. There is a patriarchal thinking that the
daughters will get married one day, after which they will be someone else s., after which there
will be no one to look after her family whereas boys, even after getting married, will continue to
be a support for his family in the future. Because of a girl s less earning potential and increased
expectation towards domesticity, the families consider the educational cost (monetary and
psychological) to be a waste, where the economic benefit is not apparent to most of the families.

The Great Flood Of 1889
Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam
failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake.
On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam
was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of
water to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS).
There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of
rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania
. Just before the dam broke, 6 8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show

These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO).
As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water
levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP).
The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the
reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO).
The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The
structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO).
Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or
about 40 mph (National Geographic).
The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA).
The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families
(Begos, 2014).
As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting
family identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014).
1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014).
Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013).

only negative thing I would say is their chips are made too thin for their queso. The queso weighs
too heavily on the chip breaking them in half 9 out of 10 times you go in for a delicious bite. The
chips themselves are excellent, but I would suggest making them a bit thicker in order to enjoy ...

The Distribution of Wealth
Dramatic facts surround the nature of the distribution of wealth becoming more concentrated
during the period between 1983 and 2004. In good parts of the period, labor unions were defeated
and implementation of tax cuts for the rich took place. 42% of the entire financial wealth generated
by the economy of the United Statesduring the 21 year period went to the richest 1%.
The Current Statistical Trends of the Wealth Inequality in the United States Before the onset of
the 2007/2008 global financial crisis, the 10% richest Americans group owned 80% of entire
financial assets in the United States. The top 20% richest Americans possessed 85% of the
nation s wealth meaning the bottom 80% of Americans only owned 15%. At this time, the
richest 1% owned 35% of the total wealth of America. After the great financial recession that
began in the last quarter of 2007, these figures changed dramatically. The portion of American
wealth owned by the 1% richest Americans rose from 35% to 37.2% while that owned by the
20% richest Americans increased from 85% to 87.8%. The global financial crisis led to a drop

my lord! You even you cannot return, I know you cannot bring away our shipmates. (Book 10,

faces Circe, Without a word, I drew my sword and in one bound held it against her throat. (Book

Edmund Booth
Edmund Booth was an extraordinary man, especially considering the difficult pioneer era he lived
in. He was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on August 24, 1810. On March 8th, 1815, at the age of
four, Edmund contracted meningitis, and was not expected to survive this horrible disease. After
being very ill for three months, to the surprise of many, Edmund survived. Unfortunately, the
meningitis cost him his hearing(slight hearing left in one ear), and the sight in one eye. By age
eight, his remaining hearing in the one ear had dissipated, and he was now profoundly deaf.

The content of Edmonds writings clearly showed his above average education, passion for reading,
and concerns for proper education for the deaf. Around 1830, Edmund was invited to be a
temporary teacher at the American School for the Deaf, as the current teacher had become ill.
His first class contained four girls and eleven boys. One of the students was named, Mary Ann
Walworth. Mary Ann was a cute young teenager that also became deaf due to spotted fever.
Mary Ann left quite an impression on her young teacher. Edmund now age 21, six foot and three
inches tall, and built like a horse, was a strapping figure of a man. In the fall of 1831 Edmund
became a full time instructor at the American School for the Deaf. Unfortunately, Edmond was
struggling to survive on his teacher s salary. In time, Edmund because disillusioned by his
financial struggles and low salary and decided it was time to leave. During Edmund s travels to
find himself he settled in Amanosa, Iowa. This is where Edmund founded the, Iowa School for
the Deaf. Additionally, this is where he came across the young deaf student that caught his eye in
his previous classroom, Mary Ann Walworth. In time, they dated, married, and began a family.
Edmund never thought he would leave his family. However, the gold fever struck, and the
adventurer in him wanted to leave so he could provide a better life for his family. On May 9th,

Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush And The Lost Baby Poem
Imagine a time when you or someone you know has gone through loss; how alone that feeling
was. Yet, the hardship it brought did not last forever. There was always something that made life
worth living again. Life is filled with sad endings and bright, new beginnings. It is an inevitable
cycle that everyone can relate to on some level. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a
century, both Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardyprove that endings can be difficult, yet there is
some form of hope within each of their poems. Hardy s The Darkling Thrushand Clifton s The Lost
Baby Poem have different styles due to the poets vastly different backgrounds, yet both poems
posses a similar somber tone throughout, with a glimmer of positivity by the end of each. Lucille
Clifton and Thomas Hardy have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their
dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton, a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful
poetry, and her use of lowercase type in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as
understanding to the average reader. Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The
Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not
feel worthy of writing in a distinguished manner. My interpretation of her lack of punctuation makes
her tone seem dismal and depressed. Hardy, who comes from English descent, lived through lots of
turmoil, including WWI, and his

Racial Discrimination And Gender Discrimination
Discrimination is an ongoing problem that exists in many forms and is often studied by social
psychologists. According to Bordens and Horowitz (2014), discrimination is defined as overt
behavior often negatively directed toward a particular group and often tied to prejudicial attitudes
which involves behaving in different ways toward members of different groups (p. 106). Although
discriminatory behaviors have seemed to simmer down over the past decades, individuals still to
this day continue to face discriminationbased on characteristics such as their race, religion, age,
gender, and sexual orientation. My paper focuses on three studies about gender discrimination, or
sexism. These studies target gender discrimination in the workplace, people s perceptions and levels
of supportiveness towards situations which entail gender discrimination, and factors that influence
their perceptions. The first portion of the paper consists of summaries of the articles while the
second section includes an analysis of these studies. In one study conducted by Hess (2013), mock
job interviews were completed with female college students to investigate nonverbal gender
discrimination. The hypothesis was that experienced interviewers would show more unfavorable
behaviors towards women applying for a masculine, or incongruent, job and more favorable
behaviors towards those interviewing for job that is considered to be feminine, or congruent. The

The four specific databases that were used in this research are, Cinahl, Medline, Joanna Briggs
and Cochrane Library. All of these databases were chosen because they provided up to date peer
reviewed evidence that was relevant to the search terms. This ensures that the evidence that was
found was relevant and reliable. The Cinahl website was useful to gather background information
on the topic such as how a UTI is contracted and how it effects the body. The Cochrane Library
and Medline website was useful to because it gave specific information on studies that had already
been done by other researchers. This helped to ensure that the study that is being undertaken was
searching for the right results.
Types of Evidence
The five types of evidence that have been secured when researching are as follows. The pieces of

Craig, Jepson, Mihaljevic provided a clear and understandable analysis of the use of cranberries in

evidence was relevant to the PICO question.

What If I Just Lost Weight Essay
What if I just lost some weight... says most girls once in their life. Woman are constantly putting
their bodies through awful diets and harsh workouts, just to become perfect in someone else eyes.
Woman and young girls see figures of other women with a double zero pants size and ask why
can t I look like that? Today society puts too much pressure on young women to have the perfect
body. What society needs to say is all women are beautiful, there is no such thing as the perfect
body. Today, women are putting down other womanfor being a size fourteen. The men in our
society are not helping either, by making a woman feel her body is not excepted, by saying they
have a preference of a woman. Images like this get stuck in the average Americans mind and
they start to paint a picture of perfection. Women tend to be judged on the basis of what they
look like, not who they are, and the more positive the evaluation, the more likely a woman is to
be valued by others... (Strelan, P., Hargreaves, D. May 2005). America has this problem today
because of the media, the objectification of woman, and how women carry themselves. Within the
Media The media takes a big part in how people in society get their image of perfect. From music
videos, TV, beauty pageants, magazines, and social media all contribute to building the image of a
perfect woman. There is no way to avoid seeing these types of images because everyday citizens
encounter these types of media throughout the day.

Irony In The Cask Of The Amontillado
Trust can crumble in the hands of anybody, even friends; once they have a hold of it, it can be
easily extinguished. Trust is an extremely fragile being that you need to be careful who you allow
to hold it. Montresor, the narrator, shows us this with his plan for revenge on Fortunato. The story
takes place during an annual carnival in Italy. Montresor and Fortunato, the two main characters are
friends except Fortunato insults Montresor causing him to want revenge. Amontilladois a fine wine
and both characters would consider themselves to be superb wine experts. In The Cask of the
Amontillado, Edgar Allan Poeuses foreshadowing, irony, and symbols to convey the theme that
one never truly knows a person s innermost thoughts and actions, not even of a person believed to
be a close friend. Poe uses foreshadowing in order to show that a person s actions may not be
what you perceive them to be. While Montresor leads Fortunato down into the catacombs to see the
Amontillado he claims to have, Fortunato asks if he is a Mason. Fortunato is referring to the

Avoiding Physical Punishment In Child Rearing Essay
Avoiding Physical Punishment In Child Rearing
Is sparing the rod spoiling or saving the child? Is violence, resentment, anger or fear worth the risk
taken when striking him or her. Whether your for or against using physical punishment in child
development, as a parent, you will someday have to face this issue. Many parents are taught this
method in their childhood, and are not aware of any other way. Often originating from religion,
physical or corporal punishment is seen as an important ingredient in child rearing. This tool is used
to accomplish total authority by the parent and to receive total submission from the child. Physical
punishment may be convenient and achieve temporary conformance, but produces negative results,

Teaching total authority by the parent, most Conservative Protestants use corporal punishment
today as their forefathers did. In Spare the Child, Philip Greven points out, Modern forms of
Christian Fundamentalism share the same obsessions with obedience to authority characteristic of
earlier modes of Evangelical Protestantism, and the same authoritarian streak evident among
seventeenth and eighteenth century Anglo American Evangelicals is discernible today, for
precisely the same reasons: the coercion of children through painful punishments in order to teach
obedience to divine and parental authority (198).
The idea many years ago is obvious, society felt that physical punishment was necessary for
obedience. With study and research over time, successful child rearing has changed to produce
better results. Dr. Benjamin Spock adds, In the olden days, most children were spanked, on the
assumption that this was necessary to make them behave. In the twentieth century, as parents and
professionals have studied children here and in other countries, they have come to realize that
children can be well behaved, cooperative, and polite without ever having been punished physically
(437). Realizing the impact this old fashioned method can have on a child, society is changing their
views on how we should discipline. We are moving away from intimidation and pain tactics to more
effective, positive methods.

Listening Is The Conscious Processing Of Auditory Stimuli...
Developing Interpersonal Skills
Listening
Listening is the conscious processing of auditory stimuli perceived through hearing. According the
website skillsyouneed.com, adults spend upwards of 70% of our time in communication, of which
45% is listening. Active listening is essential in the business setting, from communicating with team
members, customers or suppliers if you are not paying attention to what is being conveyed, you
will miss vital information necessary to make a decision or provide direction. Active listening
requires that, the listener rely on more than what they hear. Much of what is conveyed during a
conversation is done through gestures, facial expression, vocal inflection, pitch, or other non vocal
actions. In marketing, part of understanding what to build or add as new features to an existing
product is gaining insight from the customer through in depth interviews, and focus groups. If you
do not know what should be done to prepare the environment and yourself for the interview or focus
group, you will likely miss valuable information that would affect your product enhancement or

Tesla Motors, Inc. was founded in 2003 and joined the automobile industry out of Silicon Valley.
The company is located in 30 different countries with 18 stores worldwide (Mangram, 2012, p.

How Student Loans Have Affected The Cost Of Tuition
In the 1980s a first year college student could attend a public four year university for $2,500 and a

average educational cost of 5,974 and England follows with an estimated average cost of 5,288. In
spite the tuition in the United States being more than twice that of its allies; the main problem
contributing to the continuing rise of tuition are the billions of dollars owed in both federal and

The Daffodils Comparison
Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William
Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers
wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The
Daffodils quot; inspired
quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworthwrote creates a unique
situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in
which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he
has, William
Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a
beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In
the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words
that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so
alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem.
The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a
multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from
creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy.
Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it
involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique
is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of
Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and
identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him
and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge
ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very
obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on
him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for
himself and learn from it. William

Jekyll). But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a
publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. The novel had been
considered by some people, mainly the higher ranked and important persons of the 19th
centaury, as a criticism of Victorian double morality meaning they felt it was presenting a false
image of what went on in London. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other
people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the
behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. The novel also creates a lot of tension as you
progress through the text. It rises every time something is discovered in the mystery of Hyde
which strengthens it s the detective/mystery genre. At the beginning all is calm but as Hyde
comes to life, the tension rises. A really damnable man this shows us how much Hyde is hated,
but this also shows us where the tension begins to rise. The tension is near enough sky high
when the quotes something wrong with his appearance and He must be deformed are used to
make the audience worry and wonder what will prevail from the mystery of Hyde. The weather
is a ladder for the tension, described as a wild, cold, seasonable night of March ... pale moon this
was used when Utterson searched for Hyde, showing us a mysterious side of London. Although it
doesn t show much duality, it does play a part in making the novel s mystery

A White Heron
One s view on something often changes when you look at it from more than one point of view.
Morality plays a significant role in any decision making process. It is hard to justify any decision
that is not moral. Sarah Orne Jewett s A White Heron has many elements of nature, and of the
preservation of what Sylvia holds dearly. The thought provoking short story evokes emotions of
caring, loving, and fear. All of these emotions are shown by different settings and characters in the
story. It is difficult to sacrifice something that is loved to acquire a personal gain. Sylvia is not
willing to disrupt the beauty of the forest for a personal gain. She and her grandmother really do
need the reward that is being offered to them by the hunter.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At that moment her mind was made up. This is when she knew what to do. She was not going to
sell out the heron for a reward. Getting payed at the expense of others leaves one with an empty
feeling. Love is a key emotion that is brought about in the story. It is first depicted with Sylvia s
feelings for the hunter. On the contrary, she seems to have an equal love for the forest. Both of
these feelings of love are strong, however, she can choose only one. Sylvia s initial love for the
hunter is shown here: What a spirit of adventure, what wild ambition! What fancied triumph and
delight and glory for the later morning when she could make known the secret! It was almost
too great for the childish heart to bear (391). Sylvia is quite eager to impress the hunter, and
prove herself worthy to him. Her love of the hunter is simply infatuation, whereas her love of the
forest is real. She becomes infatuated with the hunter after she hears his kind voice: I have been
hunting for some birds, the stranger said kindly, and I have lost my way, and need a friend very
much. Don t be afraid, he added gallantly. Speak up and tell me what your name is, and whether
you think I can spend the night at your house, and go out gunning

Beethoven Biography Essay
Many questions go around about what day Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. Most do not know
and most likely will not ever know. They say that he was born a day or two before he was
baptized on December 17th, 1770. That was the beginning of one of the greatest musicians alive.
Ludwig had two younger brothers that had survived into adulthood. One was named Casper and
the other was named after their father Johann. His mother was a woman who stuck to her morals
and his father was a man who was a court singer, but he was more known for being an alcoholic
than a musician. This is one of the reasons Beethoven was closer with his mother rather than his
father. Also, Beethoven s grandfather was a well known musician which was a source of endless
pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His father, Johann, taught him how to play instruments day in and day out. When March 28th
1778 rolled around, Beethoven performed for the first time in front of a crowd in Cologne. At
that time Beethoven was seven and a half years old, but his father said he was six years old.
This always made Beethoven think he was younger than he actually was. Beethoven s father
could only teach him so much, though, so he went to go be taught by a professional musician
named Gottlob Neefe. Neefe noticed how talented Beethoven was, so he decided to not only
teach him about music but about the works of philosophers as well. As Beethoven grew, he
created pieces of music that became very popular. His first piece, published before the age of
twelve, was Nine Variations of C Minor. After that piece came out, his teacher wrote in a
magazine article about him saying he s to be, The next Mozart if he keeps his work up. Prince
Maximillian Franz, who was the prince of Austria at the time, knew about Beethoven s music and
decided to send him to Vienna to go meet Mozart in 1787 so he could further his music education.
When Beethoven and Mozart met, Mozart was said to have spoken, Do not forget his name! It
will be spoken often! . Sadly, whilst Beethoven was in Vienna, he received a letter saying that his
mother was dying. She was the only person Beethoven had a strong relationship with. She passed

The Importance Of Violence In Schools
When it comes to violence in schools, it s nothing new. Every day, the news media covers a story
over violence happening in school. My views over violence in school is there needs to be better
protection. The safety in schools is important because the kids in school is our future. They are our
future engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc., and if they don t have the protection they need, the kids in
schoolcan t learn. A couple suggestions to make the schools safer are practice the A.L.I.C.E. more
than once, go over what to do when an intruder is in the building, and how to protect themselves
and the people around them.
A way for the schools to be safer is to practice the A.L.I.C.E. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert,
Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate (Eells). It s effective to practice it because the kids
and teachers have a chance to practice how to protect themselves during a real life events. School
intruder situations can last anywhere between five to seven minutes (Eells). When the school is
alerted that they are on lockdown, teachers are advised to use plain and simple language. They
are advised to use plain and simple language because it won t confuse the children and they can
escape quicker. If the class can t escape through the windows or through the doors, the school urges
them to barricade and lockdown the classroom. Barricading the classroom may include moving file
cabinets to the door, shoving desks against the door also, and covering all windows. After lockdown,

My New Body Of Work
I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe
mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or
viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses
so that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to
observe unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work.
My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a
series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on
Italian linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean to fat technique. I used to
paint women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial
expressions. Coming to an understanding about how the body alone is a vehicle to convey
emotions and how those moods can be exuding from a flat surface.
Throughout my artistic growth, the contemporary British artist Jenny Saville, that dedicated her
career to traditional figurative oil painting, has acted a massive part in my developing work. The
subjects of her paintings, the large canvasses and bodies exposing the flesh. The explanation of her
work, tends to be eccentric and encompasses discourses about feminism i.e.: 1 feminist aesthetics of
disgust , her use of uneven scratch marks, the strong and

Discuss Why Scale And Resolution Are Important For Your...
Concepts and Philosophies
Discuss why scale and resolution are important for your dissertation research
Scale can be a confusing definition in geography with its multiple referents. Scale is about size,
either relative or absolute, and involves a fundamental set of issues in geography. Scale primarily
concerns space in geography. However, the domains of temporal and thematic scale are also
important to geographers. Temporal scale deals with the size of time units, thematic scale with the
grouping of entities or attributes such as people or weather variables. Whether spatial, temporal, or
thematic, scale in fact has several meanings in geography. (Montello, 2001) .The definition of

from soil sample to cantena to catchment or watershed. The problem with this is that
generalisations made at one level or scale does not always hold at other scales. Sampling can be
done at the regional scale with sampling the sediment load at mouth of river to estimate catchment
erosion.
Scale and resolution are very important for dissertation research as they help monitor the
environment via measuring cross sections with stratigraphic logging, this is not trying to control
realist but still interfering. An act of measurement is always considered an act of intervention.
There is less control over variables in final based experiments such as erosion plots, but still want
to replicate variability present in reality. However there are scaling issues strict scaling of materials
and forces cannot be applied. Experiments (laboratory and numerical) are the most extreme form of
intervention:

Internment of Japanese Americans in World War II Essay
On December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor,
bringing the United States into World War II (Prange et al., 1981: p.174). On February 19, 1942,
United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 authorizing the
Secretary of War and Military Commanders to prescribe areas of land as excludable military zones
(Roosevelt, 1942). Effectively, this order sanctioned the identification, deportation, and internment
of innocent Japanese Americans in War Relocation Camps across the western half of the United
States. During the spring and summer of 1942, it is estimated that almost 120,000 Japanese
Americans were relocated from their homes along the West Coast and in Hawaii and... Show more

officials eventually began to recruit these internees into the American army. Not only was WWII
a war about political alliances and geographical sovereignty, but it was also a war about race and
racial superiority throughout the world. Propagating this idea, Dower (1986) argues, World War
Two contributed immeasurably not only to a sharpened awareness of racism within the United
States, but also to more radical demands and militant tactics on the part of the victims of
discrimination (War Without Mercy: p.5). In elucidating the racial motivations and fallout from
WWII, Dower helps one realize the critical role that race and racial politics played during the war
and are still at play in our contemporary world. An analysis of this internment process reveals how
the ultimate goal of the U.S. internment of Japanese Americans and the United States subsequent
occupation of Japan was to essentially brainwash the Japanese race into demonstrating allegiance to
America. Startled by the surprise attack on their naval base at Pearl Harbor and anxious about a full
fledged Japanese attack on the United States West Coast, American government officials targeted
all people of Japanese descent, regardless of their citizenship status, occupation, or demonstrated
loyalty to the US. As my grandfather Frank Matsuura, a nisei born in Los Angeles, California and
interned in the Granada War Relocation Center (Camp Amache) often

  • 2. This is a characterization report on a short story by... Brother Death Control has many different meanings for many different people. To most, however, this word brings to mind one person forcing another do his or her will, but other things have control over people as well. Sherwood Anderson shows two examples of control in Don and Ted. These two characters have problems created by their difficult lives. The other characters personalities either help or hinder the children, creating a family with a constant conflict until one of the characters either changes, or disappears from the story all together. Brother Death by Sherwood Anderson is a short story about power. Don and Ted both want to be in control of their life, but different circumstances take that away from them. Ted wants to live... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She describes what they look like and even gives a little background on them so the reader can get a better idea of their personalities. Ted changes once during the story, with the help of his sister, Mary. Before this change occurred, the family always made him upset by never letting him do the things that he wants to do. They constantly watched him and told him to be careful, not letting him run or play. Mary, seeing the injustice of this, decided to do something about it. One day, when Ted and Mary got back from swimming in the creek, Louise, their mother, told Ted he mustn t. The rest of her sentence left unsaid, but nonetheless clearly understood. He mustn t do all the dangerous things he does. While Ted left out of anger, Mary stayed her ground and argued for her brother, telling Louise she should stop reminding Ted of his illness and leave him alone to do as he pleased. Her argument took Louise by surprise so much that she decides, to Ted s great joy, to give the children their freedom. When he dies at the end of the story, Mary feels he had a happy life. Don, in Mary s mind, had the hardest life of all. The conflict between Don and his father John shows another way situations in life can have control over someone. Anderson describes Don as almost an exact copy of his father in everything from his personality to his looks. Anderson shows her readers using direct characterization a ... They are most known for playing a large role in Texas frontier during most of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Although the Comanche s lived near the upper reaches of the Platte River in eastern Wyoming, they later established themselves from western Oklahoma to the TexasPanhandle into New Mexico. Today, currently 5,000 Comanches live near Lawton, Oklahoma; their tribal headquarters. Comacnhes and their Kiowa allies attacked the blockhouse, killed several settlers, and took five hostages, including nine year old Cynthia Ann Parker, who lived with the Comanches for twenty four years (18). Trying to stop the Comanche attacks, Sam Houston focused on creating peace and friendship, but Texas congress refused to come to an agreement. After succeeding Sam Houston, Mirabeau B. • 4. Break Up Research Paper Breakups are commonly messy and hard to get through. A myriad of emotions follow a bad breakup anger, frustration, pain, and depression is just a few. More than just these negative feelings, breakups usually entail negative thoughts that often occupy one s mind most of the time, especially if the incident had recently occurred. For some, moving on seems like the biggest hurdle of all and getting used to being single again is just as tough. Studies have shown that different events trigger different chemical reactions in the brain and that the more one particular reaction occurs, the more the brain will develop this kind of thinking and affect one s emotions. This means that the more one dwells on the negative emotions after a breakup, the more it will be difficult for the brain to adjust and try to be positive again.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While most people find it easier to sulk and dive into depression, it is better to proactively deal with your emotions before it takes over you. One way of truly moving on and getting rid of negative emotions is to face these thoughts and let them out in various ways. You can let off steam by going to the gym and working out, talking it out with a friend or participating in activities that will get your mind off your thoughts and feelings. Even if you end up alone and still depressed in your bed at the end of the day, at least you have let out your feelings through communicating with your friends or de stressing through exercise. Remember that the more you let out your emotions, the less stress you will feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not only do we have Earth bound telescopes; we have telescopes in the sky that can get even closer to other matter whether that be planets, stars, comets, asteroids, etc. The textbook also notes radial velocity and how the gravitational pull of a planetresults in the star wobbling. If the wobble happens to occur along our line of sight to the star, then we see small fluctuations in the star s radial velocity, which can be measured using the Doppler effect (Chaisson McMillan, 2014, p 371) allowing us to estimate the mass of the planet (Chaisson McMillan, 2014, p 371). I found this website: http://www.planetary.org/explore/space topics/exoplanets/how to search for exoplanets.html that gives three ways. They are noted as radial velocity (already stated); transit photometry (having to do with the brightness or lack thereof of a star when another planet passes between it and the Earth(How to Search for Exoplanets)), and Microlensing (stated as the only real method that is capable of discovering other planets at huge distances from Earth (How to Search for Exoplanets)). It further notes that while radial velocity can identify them within 100 light years, transit photometry can identify them more than 100 light years (100 s in fact), and transit photometry can find those that are thousands of light years away. • 6. Theme Of Male Desire In Philadelphia Fire Objects of Male Desire In his novel, Philadelphia Fire, John Edgar Wideman takes on the task of reimagining the African American male. While this role may seem daunting to some it was a challenge that Wideman accepted. Through various forms of written and spoken language Wideman follows the male narrative of Cudjoe as he tries to understand what happened on the day of the MOVE bombing. Wideman challenges the reader s idea of a typical novel. He aims to give a new perspective on the African American and does so in a unique and descriptive way. Wideman s re representation of the African American male fails in a major way. The violation, objectification, and silencing of the Euro American women in the novel prevents Wideman from changing the perspective the reader has on African Americans (males specifically). On the back cover of Philadelphia Fire, the novel is described as, ...the story of Cudjoe, a writer and exile who returns to his old neighborhood after spending a decade fleeing from his past, and his search for the lone survivor of the fire a young boy who was seen running from the flames. Based off this description, one would find it hard to believe that much of the novel depicts Cudjoe oppressing women. To Cudjoe, women are sexual objects. While on Mykonos he meets a dark haired woman and, She will teach him the Greek for her body parts. (6) This woman is not given a name, and not given any direct dialogue. Cudjoe says that he forgets the words as soon as she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gender Roles In Fantomina, By Eliza Haywood The 18th century was a time where there were very strong gender norms that were strictly followed. But in Eliza Haywood s Fantomina, those gender norms are challenged with the creation of a cunning, and manipulative female protagonist. We are given a text that empowers the main character, Fantomina, throughout the story and shows us a womans power to exercise their control over men. As a women of a higher class, Fantomina would have been expected to follow a certain code of conduct and uphold a good reputation. However, her ability to deceive Beauplaisir shows her power over him, as well as her skill and intelligence. In the start of the story, Haywood places Fantomina in an unusual place for a woman of her standard to be, a playhouse. She is seen observing the actions of those around her in her box seat. By purposefully placing Fantomina above the men in her location at the playhouse, this represents her power over men who are in the pit seats below her. Men are casted as depraved and deeply judged by the eye of Fantomina. (227). By allowing us to see the story from her perspective, Haywood furthers the division between men and women by showing the power that Fantomina currently holds while also foreshadowing the power she will gain by observing others and learning different mannerisms, such as those of a prostitute. Haywood s use of female power is continued throughout the novella through gender politics. Beauplaisir believes that he has asserted his dominance and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay about History of Home Schooling History of Home Schooling Before public schools emerged, children were educated in the home by their parents. They were taught arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a tutor for their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. As a result of their efforts, public elementary schools evolved in American society by the end of the 19th century. Many parents followed Holt in his ideas about education and still home school their children based on Holt s philosophy (Koetzsch, 1997). The Christian home school movement began in the United States during the 1980 s. Conservative Christian families believe in a literal translation of the bible and generally have conservative social views. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997). Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children for religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children better than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). • 9. Logan Feys Arguments On Being Individual Being individual means being unique and like no other; however, the conflicting norms of society wear down upon the abilities of people who stand out amongst others. Logan Feys argues that we are under constant pressure to give up our individuality while living in society. In agreeance with Feys argument we should have our own values and we shouldn t try to be like everyone else. Society does pressure us constantly to give up our individuality, but we should have our own values. Society tends to judge others who stand out just because they don t look like everyone else in the crowd. For instance, Society looks down upon freakish and extraordinary individuals alike and views them with suspicions (Feys 4). This proves that society looks down on individuals who are completely different from them. However, the Leopard Man doesn t care if society isn t happy with his appearance. He doesn t live off of society s approval. He seeks his own values and happiness with the choices he makes. As long as you re happy with what you re doing then society s opinion shouldn t matter. • 10. Socrates, A Classical Greek Philosopher Socrates, born in 470 BC in Athens, Greece, was a classical Greek philosopher and is believed to be one of the founders of Western philosophy. He lived a good 71 years until his death in 399 BC. Although Socrates never wrote anything down, we still know quite a bit about him. Everything we know, we have learned through the writings of one of Socratesstudents, Plato. One very famous phenomenon we learn from Socrates is Socrates Socratic method. It essentially laid down the building blocks of Western logic and philosophy and it consists of five steps. The first step is to make a statement; the second is to then look for exceptions. The third step comes in two parts. It states that if an exception is found then the statement is either imprecise, or flat out false. Further comes step four that says that if the statement is imprecise then to revise it. Finally step five is to repeat. A lot of people were not Socrates biggest fans, which leads us to the charges and trial of Socrates. He was put into trial for being impious and corrupting the youth. Although some may argue that Socrates was an evil, unjust person that led a bad life and was a troublemaker, I affirm that Socrates led a good and honorable life due to his great wisdom in admitting that he knows nothing. His awareness of his own ignorance makes him an admirable person. To begin with, Socrates was quite the character. The purpose of making a product loss leader is to encourage customers to make further purchases of profitable goods while they are in the shop. If a business reduced its prices than competitors, new customers may be attracted and existing customers may become more loyal. Hence using a loss leader pricing can help to divert loyal customers. Using a loss leader is a short term pricing tactic for any product. One risk of using a loss leader pricing is that customers can take the opportunity to bulk buy . • 13. Overview of Cash Flow Management Cash Flow Management Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon., 2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur. Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This requires good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow projections helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without understanding the cash flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure. Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the January expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits from February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget shows enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working capital for expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget. Mr. Morello would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can sometimes be unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the business needs are met in a timely manner. In efforts to reduce the interest expense from a loan, community banks and the Small Business Administration offer lower interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Malware costs people in the US alone billions of dollars yearly (Consumer Reports Magazine). There are many types of malware such as: Viruses, Trojan horses, Phishing, Worms, and Spyware. They work in many different ways but they all corrupt something in the everyday lives of the computer users. First off, Phishing, poses as a real legitimate such as: bank websites. The war left the country in disarray, with little government authority and resources to rebuild. Foreign aid quickly rushed into the country, including the WASH sector that lacked coordination and focus. This made the country highly dependent on foreign aid to continue building efforts of sanitation materials. In 2006, an estimated 30 percent of people in Sierra Leone had access to improved sanitation and only 17 percent in rural areas. The inadequate sanitation rates play a major role in Sierra Leone s high under 5 mortality rate, which is one of the highest in the world at 182 deaths per 1,000 live births. Sanitation... • 17. Cultural Backgrounds And Community Attitudes Prevent Girls... Thesis statement: The diverse cultural backgrounds and community attitudes prevent girls from attending schools and thereby act as the barrier in maintaining gender equality in India. The sex ratio, which is the number of girl students per 1000 male students, in the Indian high schools is 3:1 (boy: girl). The primary reason for the decline in the birth ratio of females in India is mainly because of the intense treatments inflicted to the girls at the time of their birth. The lowest sexratio in India is witnessed in Haryana, which reflects 877 females to that of 1000 males. However in Kerala, the number of females is more than that of males, a ratio of 1000:1084. Moreover, the girls after hitting the stage of puberty are believed to be baby makers, where the only work they have is in the house, raising their child and do various household chores. The two major factors by which puberty affects well being are self perception and peer association. It is also seen that the girls suffer a lot because of lack of infrastructure like proper functioning of toilets and disposals. However, the preference to a male child is mainly because they will act as a source of support to their family in the near future. There is a patriarchal thinking that the daughters will get married one day, after which they will be someone else s., after which there will be no one to look after her family whereas boys, even after getting married, will continue to be a support for his family in the future. Because of a girl s less earning potential and increased expectation towards domesticity, the families consider the educational cost (monetary and psychological) to be a waste, where the economic benefit is not apparent to most of the families. The Great Flood Of 1889 Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake. On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS). There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania . These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO). As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP). The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO). The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO). Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or about 40 mph (National Geographic). The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA). The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos, 2014). As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting family identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014). 1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014). From people giving it such a positive review, I decided to give it a try. As someone who is a lover of tacos, including breakfast tacos, I knew I would be a tough critic over Torchy s. After I went to Torchy s twice, I decided to give it two thumbs up. I love Mexican food, and as a native of Texas I ve had plenty of it in my sixteen years of life. Just as a disclaimer, if you are not a fanatic of spicy foods, I would not suggest Torchy s to you. From my first trip, I tried the queso first which contains green chile, quacamole, and diablo hot sauce, but as a lover of fiery foods, I fairly enjoyed this. Their chips are made homemade style and the only negative thing I would say is their chips are made too thin for their queso. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a century, both Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardyprove that endings can be difficult, yet there is some form of hope within each of their poems. Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton, a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful poetry, and her use of lowercase type in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as understanding to the average reader. Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not feel worthy of writing in a distinguished manner. Although discriminatory behaviors have seemed to simmer down over the past decades, individuals still to this day continue to face discriminationbased on characteristics such as their race, religion, age, gender, and sexual orientation. Trust is an extremely fragile being that you need to be careful who you allow to hold it. Montresor, the narrator, shows us this with his plan for revenge on Fortunato. In The Cask of the Amontillado, Edgar Allan Poeuses foreshadowing, irony, and symbols to convey the theme that one never truly knows a person s innermost thoughts and actions, not even of a person believed to be a close friend. Poe uses foreshadowing in order to show that a person s actions may not be what you perceive them to be. In Spare the Child, Philip Greven points out, Modern forms of Christian Fundamentalism share the same obsessions with obedience to authority characteristic of earlier modes of Evangelical Protestantism, and the same authoritarian streak evident among seventeenth and eighteenth century Anglo American Evangelicals is discernible today, for precisely the same reasons: the coercion of children through painful punishments in order to teach obedience to divine and parental authority (198). The idea many years ago is obvious, society felt that physical punishment was necessary for obedience. With study and research over time, successful child rearing has changed to produce better results. Dr. Benjamin Spock adds, In the olden days, most children were spanked, on the assumption that this was necessary to make them behave. How Student Loans Have Affected The Cost Of Tuition In the 1980s a first year college student could attend a public four year university for $2,500 and a private university for a little over $5,000. Although, most of these universities are offering the same mediocre education from the last three decades; the cost of tuition has more than tripled for public universities and for private universities, it has gone up a staggering 85%. Canada holds an average educational cost of 5,974 and England follows with an estimated average cost of 5,288. In spite the tuition in the United States being more than twice that of its allies; the main problem contributing to the continuing rise of tuition are the billions of dollars owed in both federal and private studentloans. Unfortunately, out of 15 countries the United States held the number one position when it came down to the cost of a higher education(including books, fees, room and board). With that being said, I will thoroughly explain in the following essay how student loans have affected the cost of tuition, compare US tuition to other countries, and analyze the average spending budget for most universities that prove to influence the rise in tuition. At some point, it was said that the United States had a high credit card debt that could take a few decades to pay off. Now student loans are the talk of the Federal Reserve, with the amount of loans accumulating up to $829.785 billion, surpassing the infamous credit card debt. • 40. The Daffodils Comparison Two poems that share or have a similar meaning are quot; The Daffodils quot; written by William Wordsworth and quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; written by Gillian Clarke. Both writers wrote their poems in different times but share a very similar meaning. The poem quot; The Daffodils quot; inspired quot;Miracle on St David #39;s Day quot; that William Wordsworthwrote creates a unique situation, which occurs in Clarke #39;s poem. William Wordsworth had never seen the daffodils in which he wrote about in his poem. Although with a unique imagination and a few details that he has, William Wordsworth could use the details and create it into a special and unique poem which sets for a beautiful scenery. Which allows the reader to participate and feel the true beauty of the scene. In the poem, a conflict presents itself in the beginning of the poem, when he uses such specific words that are very contradictory with other parts of the poem such as when he describes not being so alone, but with other people in the other parts of the poem. The beginning of the first poem focuses on the writer #39;s use of a strong imagination to create a multitude and vivid set of pictures that you can imagine yourself. The happiness he gains from creating these images in his mind, fulfill him up with even more happiness and joy. Likewise, Clarke #39;s experience is very similar in that it s also heartwarming and joyful, it involves many people just like William s poem. In the poem, the daffodils by William s technique is to reconstruct an imaginary trip in which he flies above the countryside. Showing the good side of Garcia 2 things and the good side of his mood. He describes the location of the daffodils and identifies them by quoting something he distinctly remembers. Their beauty not only affects him and his emotions but also the rest of the environment around him. He also comments on the huge ability that these daffodils have raised the human spirits, and in parts of the poem he makes it very obvious that he has been completely unaware of the huge impact the daffodils would have had on him and how William, in the future would continuously visit this imaginary scene he has created for himself and learn from it. One of these variations of the duality is among the minor characters, for example Utterson and Enfield. Their similarity is that they are both respectable Victorian gentlemen, that both like to discuss stories but they feel it is gossiping about their friend and say let us make a bargain to never refer to this again , this shows that they feel that they have over stepped the mark and have stumbled upon something that is better left alone, this is also the first mention of a mystery giving us a clue in to the genre. But the novel was also partly based on a play Deacon Brodia (1880) which is about a publicly respectable gentleman but privately a thief and rakehell. The novel had been considered by some people, mainly the higher ranked and important persons of the 19th centaury, as a criticism of Victorian double morality meaning they felt it was presenting a false image of what went on in London. They may have also have felt that it was encouraging other people to do things considered wrong like. This shows duality between the novel and the behaviour in London during the 19th centaury. The novel also creates a lot of tension as you progress through the text. It rises every time something is discovered in the mystery of Hyde which strengthens it s the detective/mystery genre. At the beginning all is calm but as Hyde comes to life, the tension rises. A really damnable man this shows us how much Hyde is hated, but this also shows us where the tension begins to rise. The tension is near enough sky high when the quotes something wrong with his appearance and He must be deformed are used to make the audience worry and wonder what will prevail from the mystery of Hyde. The weather is a ladder for the tension, described as a wild, cold, seasonable night of March ... pale moon this was used when Utterson searched for Hyde, showing us a mysterious side of London. Ludwig had two younger brothers that had survived into adulthood. One was named Casper and the other was named after their father Johann. His mother was a woman who stuck to her morals and his father was a man who was a court singer, but he was more known for being an alcoholic than a musician. Concepts and Philosophies Discuss why scale and resolution are important for your dissertation research Scale can be a confusing definition in geography with its multiple referents. Scale is about size, either relative or absolute, and involves a fundamental set of issues in geography. Scale primarily concerns space in geography. However, the domains of temporal and thematic scale are also important to geographers. Temporal scale deals with the size of time units, thematic scale with the grouping of entities or attributes such as people or weather variables. Internment of Japanese Americans in World War II Essay On December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, bringing the United States into World War II (Prange et al., 1981: p.174). On February 19, 1942, United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 authorizing the Secretary of War and Military Commanders to prescribe areas of land as excludable military zones (Roosevelt, 1942). Effectively, this order sanctioned the identification, deportation, and internment of innocent Japanese Americans in War Relocation Camps across the western half of the United States. Not only was WWII a war about political alliances and geographical sovereignty, but it was also a war about race and racial superiority throughout the world. Propagating this idea, Dower (1986) argues, World War Two contributed immeasurably not only to a sharpened awareness of racism within the United States, but also to more radical demands and militant tactics on the part of the victims of discrimination (War Without Mercy: p.5). In elucidating the racial motivations and fallout from WWII, Dower helps one realize the critical role that race and racial politics played during the war and are still at play in our contemporary world. An analysis of this internment process reveals how the ultimate goal of the U.S. internment of Japanese Americans and the United States subsequent occupation of Japan was to essentially brainwash the Japanese race into demonstrating allegiance to America. Startled by the surprise attack on their naval base at Pearl Harbor and anxious about a full fledged Japanese attack on the United States West Coast, American government officials targeted all people of Japanese descent, regardless of their citizenship status, occupation, or demonstrated loyalty to the US.
