REPORT TEXT
•Report Text is included in descriptive text which has the function of describing something,
whether an object, living creature or general phenomenon in general. Meanwhile, descriptive
text explains more specific phenomena. For example, you will discuss someone. So in
descriptive text, you refer to a certain characteristics of man/woman, such as a appearance
and character
What is the purpose of report the text?
The function of report text is to describe the way things are, with reference to arrange on
natural, manmade, and social phenomena in our environment
What is generic structure of report text?
The structure of Report Text is General Classification followed by Description
General Classification :the first part which contains various general information based on
the results of observations made by the author. The results of these observations can
include animals, natural phenomena, plants and other topics in detail.

REPORT TEXT
•In the second part, we are required to write a description that explains the phenomenon and
situation in the report text. The explanation in the report text structure also includes the
nature, characteristics and various other things about the object being discussed. The
classification description is made in more detail and explained scientifically.
Language features:
1. General nouns – report text uses words that refer to something in general, for example
dog, cat, or other animals in general (my cat is a specific name for an animal).
2. Relating verbs or linking verbs - for example is, am, are, look, seem, taste, and so
on.
3. Timeless present tense – report text uses Simple Present Tense time markers, for
example usually, often, always, and so on.
4. Technical terms – report text uses terms related to the topic or discussion. For
example, if we make a report text about animals, then in the report text there must be
a term or mention of the animal in question, for example cats (Felis catus).
5. Introducing group or general aspect – report text uses language that introduces the
discussion or research object in general.
