Kitakata Ramen Business
Kitakata Ramen is a small, family owned restaurant that just opened up about a month ago. I
worked in a resale shop next door and was privileged with the task of quality assurance a few weeks
before they open officially. Business seems to be booming for them and people are always packed
into the entrance. They only serve ramen, as the name would suggest, and the plaza the shop is
located at is quite busy. The store itself stands out in stark contrast to the other restaurants
nearby. The plaza that the shop is located in also is home to a local Jewel Osco which, by itself,
already sees hundreds of shoppers daily. Lining the giant parking lot is a number of other
businesses that also tend to be busy. An optometrist office, a beauty shop, a real estate office, and
even a Burlington Coat factory. Needless to say, it got plenty of foot traffic in the months leading
to its opening. Another great aspect of its location it s the only ramen shop nearby. Right on the
edge of the suburbs, it has a massive pool of consumers that see its unique storefront and giant menu
on its window every day. Most Jewel Osco customers will live very nearby and will know that
there really isn t a substitute for a quick bowl of handmade, authentic Japanese ramen. In effect,
Kitakata has carved itself a niche in the restaurant industry by offering cheap foodin the suburbs that
matches the quality of a restaurant one might find in the city for twice the price. The restaurant
itself is very well

The Sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic
On April 14th April 15th the R.M.S. Titanic struck a 2,000 ton iceberg off the coast of
Newfoundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are many questionable reasons to as why the
Titanic sank, but there are always the basic ideas. Scientists have theories, but not everything has
become proven facts except that the ship did hit an iceberg. The R.M.S. Titanic was affected by
weather, design of the ship, or even simple human mistakes. Some speculation about the weather
has existed ever since the R.M.S. Titanic has sunk. Some believe it was tides, temperature, or
even mirages across the ocean, but let s dig a bit deeper and find what makes these conclusions
become reasonable explanations. On January 4, 1912, three months before the Titanic set sail, a
solar eclipse occurred. The moon came closer than it has ever been to Earth in 1,400 years, and
Earth made its annual close distance to the sun. The last time this had ever happened was in 796
A.D., and the next time this will occur is the year 2257. When this eclipse happened, it made the
tides change in drastic measures. On the banks of Greenland floated a 2,000 ton iceberg. Due to
the tide changes, this 2,000 ton iceberg split in half, resulting in a 1,000 ton iceberg that gets sent
off southward. Coincidentally, the iceberg ends up off the coast of Newfoundland in about 3
months. Usual travel time for icebergs that far is 5+ months. Where this iceberg ends up, is right in
the Titanic s path on April 14th. Was this fate, or

Failures Of Indira Gandhi
Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures.
Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of
emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate
failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira
Gandhi had no gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would
want to address so many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in
Indiaduring the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she
was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within
India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately
lead to her demise.
While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes
as well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had
a hard time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made
her ill prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of
India; however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style.
Rajiv Gandhi s rise to power was even more abrupt than his mothers. He was even less qualified
than his

Raising Capital in the Financial Markets
CHAPTER 14
Raising Capital in the Financial Markets
CHAPTER ORIENTATION
This chapter considers the market environment in which long term capital is raised. The underlying
rationale for the existence of security markets is presented, investment banking services and
procedures are detailed, private placements are discussed, and security market regulation is
reviewed.
CHAPTER OUTLINE
I.The mix of corporate securities sold in the capital market.
A.When corporations raise cash in the capital market, what type of financing vehicle is most
favored? The answer to this question is corporate bonds. The corporate debt markets clearly
dominate the corporate equity markets when new (external) funds are being raised.
B.From our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2.The capital market consists of the institutions and procedures that provide for transactions in long
term financial instruments. This market encompasses those securities that have maturity periods
extending beyond 1 year.
D.Organized security exchanges can be distinguished from over the counter markets.
1.Organized security exchanges are tangible entities whose activities are governed by a set of
bylaws. Security exchanges physically occupy space and financial instruments are traded on such
premises.
a.Major stock exchanges must comply with a strict set of reporting requirements established by the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These exchanges are said to be registered.
b.Organized security exchanges provide several benefits to both corporations and investors. They
(l) provide a continuous market, (2) establish and publicize fair security prices, and (3) help
businesses raise new financial capital.
c.A corporation must take steps to have its securities listed on an exchange in order to directly
receive the benefits noted above. Listing criteria differ from exchange to exchange.
2.Over the counter markets include all security markets except the organized exchanges. The
money market is a prominent example. Most corporate bonds are traded over the counter.
a.NASDAQ, a telecommunication system providing an information link among brokers and dealers
in the OTC markets, accounted for 43% of the

Black Males Able To Vote Essay
Ever since the first African Americans came to Jamestown in 1619, getting along has never
been easy. Even though there was 200 years of slavery until the prevail of the civil war and the
abolition of slavery, most people forget that some African Americans were free during that time,
but how free were they? Free African Americans in the Northern states were free, but had no
rights based on the voting chart, Charles Mackay s excerpt, and Charles Andrews excerpt. Out of
the three regions in the North, black males could only vote in one of them. Mackay recognizes
their freedom , but denies African Americans of their rights. Finally, Andrews who was the top
of his class explains how there s no place for his talent. Free African Americans may have had
freedom, but not the freedom that white males had, and certainly not the rights they needed to
fully function in society. In the voting chart, it shows if black males could vote or do jury duty
in each state in the North in 1860. The data it shows says that in the Mid Atlantic and Midwest,
most black males were either not permitted or were restricted to vote. Only in New England
could black male suffrage have any chance, even if it s only a little. Even when being free, black
males could only vote in five states, and do jury duty in one. They might have been free, but most...

Sacagawea was kidnapped when she was twelve years old by an enemy tribe of her people the
Shoshones Indians. She was then sold by the Hidatsas to a French Canadian named Toussaint
Charbonneau who claimed other women from the Shoshones as his wives as well. She gave birth
to Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. She proved to be very helpful in the Lewis and Clark expedition. Her
and her husband were hired as translators. They needed horses from her tribe so she was very
helpful in that factor. She made the team seem friendlier as they were carrying her, an indian

Role Of Phosphorylation Of Second Messenger Dependent On...
1. What is the role of the phosphorylation of GPCRs in the process known as receptor
desensitization? First describe the process, or what is meant, by the term receptor desensitization.
What does it mean when we say that the receptor is uncoupled versus down regulation of the
receptor? Define and contrast the roles of the second messenger dependent protein kinases versus
the G protein coupled receptorkinases in the process of receptor desensitization. What do the terms
homologous versus heterologous desensitization refer to? (Ferguson, Pharmacological Reviews
53:1 24, 2001; Gainetdinov et al., Annual Review of Neuroscience 27:107 144, 2004; Vasudevan et
al., Cell Cycle 10:3684 3691, 2011).
Receptor desensitization: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process called the uncoupled . Down regulation means the receptor mRNA and protein
synthesis decrease and the preexisting receptor degradation. The uncouple and down regulation are
both involved in the receptor desensitization, but in different steps. These steps are following
described. First, the receptor uncouple from heterotrimeric G proteins; Second, cell surface
receptors internalize into intracellular membranous compartments; Third, receptor mRNA and
protein synthesis decrease result in the down regulation of the total cellular complement of
receptors, as well as both the lysosomal and plasma membrane degradation of pre existing receptors.
There are two generally kinases which are G protein coupled receptor kinase GRKs and second
messenger dependent protein kinases(e.g., PKA and PKC). The G protein coupled receptor kinase
only act on the phosphorylate agonist activate receptor. For example, GRK family members work
on activated receptors, and then promote the binding of cytosolic arrestins, which sterically
uncouple the receptor from heterotrimeric G protein. In contrast, second messenger dependent
proteins kinases act on both phosphorylate agonist activated GPCRs and other phosphorylates
receptors that have not been exposed to agonist. Thus, agonist independent phosphorylation can
only happen with the second messenger dependent protein kinases, but GRKs cannot do it. When
we recognize the

The Events Of The 1942 Bataan Death Essay
The events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March reflect the Japanese views on surrender
and explain the reason why a mass execution followed their enemy s surrender. Japan s forced,
unconditional surrender to end World War II demonstrates the beginning of a Japanese cultural
evolution. The following excerpts from an uncovered journal written by Joseph Daniels, an
American soldier stationed in the Philippines, document a survivor s perspective on the events
of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March. December 8, 1941 Joseph Daniels, Pvt. U.S.
Marine Corp It was a bright, sunny morning in the Philippines. I woke to the sound of birds
chirping and the quiet chatter of my fellow soldiers who had begun to prepare for the long day
ahead of us. I rubbed my groggy eyes, attempting to relieve the constant effects of insomnia and
to force myself to get moving. Sleep for a soldier was a highly revered pleasure, but when it
came, it didn t come in abundant amounts and it often left us feeling even more tired than we
were before. Nevertheless, I had a country to defend and duties to fulfill. This was one of the
many sacrifices of an American soldier a position which I served with absolute honor and pride. I
laced up my combat boots and made my way out of the tent to greet the other soldiers at camp.
After a typical, bland breakfast of oats and mystery meat, we spent the morning cleaning up camp
and organizing ourselves for the long journey

Utilization Of Water Ethical Issue
Hi Aldi and Jenna, I appreciate that you shared about different ethical and legal issues relating to
п»їwater as a resource. This is really an important point that if the State is inefficient in proper
utilization of water, Federal Government should either find some alternative for proper utilization
of water or declare State of Emergency. The argument strongly support different water ethics
concept. But, this might create a situation where it changes from ethical issue to the political issue.
The whole idea to implement this requires to work on certain prerequisites. Regulating the
equivalent use of water at domestic level is a major ethical issue. Agricultural sector and industries
requires high level of water per day as compared to domestic

How would you like to spend 20 to 30 minutes every day building one new relationship a day that
will double, perhaps even triple your income?
I m going to toss a new wrinkle into the relationship building game. I want you to think about two
words could have dramatic affect on your life and your income.
Those two words are on purpose.
What do you think might happen if you started creating new relationships on purpose? And what if
you attached an immediate dollar amount value to each of those new relationships?
That s what I did several years ago and my results have been nothing short of amazing. I know it
might sound cold and calculating to think like this, but bear with me.
It all started one evening as I was doing an Internet business seminar for a local S.C.O.R.E.
chapter. I was talking about how to increase the value of email in your business. I looked down
and, by chance, in my materials, I had one of those thousand dollar bill bookmarks you can buy at
your local bookstore. Hold

Set up against the rampant industrialization of the 18th century, Charles Dickens classic novella A
Christmas Carol endorses the notion that all people have a responsibility to ensure the safety and
welfare of every member of society. By taking his seemingly irredeemable protagonist Ebenezer
Scrooge on an other worldly journey. Dickens intends to convey to the complacent classes of the
age, the necessity of various traits that are essential in life, such as the responsibility for those
whom are less fortunate and other vital traits such as charity, generosity and simply caring for
others. Dickens warns the reader of the consequences that will follow if these lessons are not taken
into consideration.

Ovariohysterectomy In Dogs
Problem: Spaying a dog is a far more invasive surgery than neutering is, due to the need to enter the
abdominal cavity to remove the uterus and the ovaries in a ovariohysterectomy. The act of opening
the abdominal cavity increases the risk of infection in dogs due to exposing inner tissues and organs
to a potentially non sterile environment. To counteract the risk of infection, many doctors
preemptively prescribe antibiotics to the dogs, however, Shiloh Veterinary Hospital does not. The
antibiotics usually serve the purpose of keeping the dogs infection free, but it also contributes to the
evolution of antibiotic resistant diseases that are far more dangerous to the animals.
Knowing which dog breeds are the most and least susceptible to infection

BT strategy is founded on broadening and deepening its customer relationships.
To deliver sustainable profitable revenue growth, BT needs stronger relationships with its
customers. That means making sure the company stay relevant to them as markets, lifestyles and
technologies change.
The three pillars of BT s strategy help the company to do that: delivering superior customer service;
transforming our costs; and investing for growth. The better our customer service, the more the
company sells and the less time and money is spend in putting things right. And the better the
company manages its costs, the better value for money BT can offer to its customers and the more

Joshua The Odyssey
Joshua was the successor of Moses chosen by God, and God definitely knew what he was doing
with Joshua! While Joshua is not the most famous part of the Bible, most people know he fought
the Battle of Jericho. Thanks to his devotion and obedience towards God, he won the battle and
claimed the Promised Land. Joshua did great things for the glory of God, so he should always be
remembered as the hero he was. Joshua was born in Egypt prior to Exodus, in the year 1355 BC.
Joshua was very similar to Mosesthroughout his life. When he was born, he was hidden to hide
from Pharaoh s law that the newborn Hebrew men must be put to death. He also tried to bring the

last attempt to claim the Promised Land, while they were led by Moses, the Israelites did not

again in claiming the Promised Land. This time however, Joshua was determined to follow God
s directions perfectly, despite the Israelites not agreeing with him. He was well rewarded for his
obedience towards God, because due to everyone s obedience, they won the Battle of Jericho (
Joshua Summary )! After the victory, the Promised Land was officially the Israelites land for
the taking. Joshua later led several other victories for the Israelites before he died in the year 1245
BC. Thanks to him, the Israelites now could peacefully live in the Holy Land. If he had not obeyed
God, the Promise Land would still be in the hands of the wrong people for another long forty years.
His obedience is later referenced in the book of 1 Samuel. To obey is better than sacrifice. ( 15:22 )

The statement Developments in popular culture in post war Australia and their impact on society

Analysis Of Les Six
Les Sis
The 1920 s were an extraordinary time in Paris. The war had ended. Musicians, artist, writers,
poets, film makers and choreographers were friends and influenced one another. There was a sense
of optimism and excitement. Composers were finding inspiration in popular sources, circus music
and jazz which was being heard for the first time. Les Six were a group of six young French
musicians during this time; Arthur Honegger, Darius Mihaud, Francis Poulenc, Georges Auric,
Louis Durey and Germaine Tailleferre, the group s only woman. They were brought together by
their adverse reactions to the impressionism of French composers such as Debussy and Ravel. The
music critic Henri Collet coined the group s name in 1920. Inspired by the more abstract and
unadorned compositions of Erik Sate and the writings of Jean Cocteau they sought to write in a
style that was more simple and sophisticated. Their friendship brought them together, however they
maintained their own distinctive styles.
Francis Poulenc
The finest choral composer of Les Six his works are known for their melodic invention and
originality. Because Poulenc s family intended for him to have a career in the family business he
was largely self taught. His music often juxtaposes humor and irony with the sentimental and
melancholy. After the death of a close friend in the 1930s he rediscovered Catholicism and
composed many religious works. He was particularly fond of woodwinds and planned to write a set

The Effect Of Shallow And Deep Levels Of Processing On...
Abstract
This was a study conducted at IUP on undergraduate students to see if processing information at
certain levels would improve memory recall. During the study, we presented the participants with a
PowerPoint of information on a made up country. The participants was randomly assigned to a
shallow, medium, or deep processing instruction, which explained to them how to take notes
throughout the presentation. After, students recieved a distractor task for 15 minutes, and after
given a multiple choice test on the information showed on the slides. The results showed that there
was no significant difference between note taking instructions and the number of correct answers.
All three task instructions in the study showed similar means on the recall test.

Craik and Lockhart (1972) conducted a study where they first introduced the theory of depth of
processing, also known as levels on processing. They said that memory processing had levels
ranging from shallow to deep. They said that people processed words at a shallow, moderate or
deep level. Shallow processing, also known as structural encoding, is when physical features of the
information is analyzed. They found that information is usually forgotten because the processing
does not involve meaning, so it creates memory that is weak, resulting in information being harder
to retrieve. One way to define moderate processing, also known as

Faint Memories Of My Birth Certificates
Starting this assignment, I do no feel overwhelming emotion to see my birth certificate. Faint
memories of my certificate linger within my head. In the past, I examined my birth certificate for
reasons I forgotten. Through these past examinations, I m certain that nothing out of the ordinary
pertaining to this document exist. I believe that my parents carry truth in their words and that my
motherbrought me into this life. All though, I suppose checking this document serves well to
familiarize myself with this legal document. Asking my parents for this document, they questioned
why I desired to see it after such a long time. I explained to them that it correlates to a writing
assignment for my critical thinking class. My parents overwhelmed with confusion to what kind of
assignment correlates to ones birth certificate, but I insisted that they would be better off not asking
questions. Confused and a bit off, they take me upstairs to a locked filing cabinet where all
important documents that correspond to my familybelong. Rummaging through the section of my
documents, they pull out my birth certificate. A minuscule amount of excitement runs through my

Power And Corruption In A Tale Of Two Cities
Throughout all of human history, many influential beings have exploited varying forms of human
nature s prominence, as well as its true darkness. There have been many cases to humans acting out
of pure righteousness by standing by and supporting their true and sincere morals, whereas others
have revealed the deep evil within us through acts of brutality, savagery, or manipulation. Percy
Bysshe Shelley one wrote, Power, like a desolating pestilence, Pollutes whate er it touches . This
quote expresses Shelley s opinion that power does not come without corruption. I support Shelley s
assertion because her belief can be proven not only through examples from the book, A Tale of
Two Cities , but can also be found in historical event, as well as human nature in general.... Show

On the other hand, however, those who were consumed by the corruption possessed weaker minds
with not as righteous morals. One may conclude that, because humans are not born with
immediate mental fortitude, it may be a part of human nature to be corrupted by power. In
Charles Dickens famous novel, A Tale of Two Cities , many situations that have involved
corruption through power revolved around an individual that uses that power for a selfish reason,
such as entertainment or revenge. An example of this would be when the Marquis of France
abused their royal titles. By having a high rank in the social class, the Marquis used their titles to
live lives of luxury while the rest of society suffered in extreme poverty. This example from the
book depicts a darker characteristic of selfishness in human nature, which contributes to

Merck s Case Ethical
Merck Case Study
October 14, 2008
Relevant Facts:
Merck was one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Merck was about to lose
patent protection of two of its best selling drugs, which had been a significant part of their $2
billion annual sales. Merck began putting millions of dollars into research (up to $1 billion) and
within three years, Merck was able to discover four powerful medications. Profits weren t all that
Merck cared about; Merck s founder believed that medicine is for people. It is not for the profits.
He also believed that following the medicine is for people philosophy would lead to profits and had

In application, people might view Merck s duties in different ways. For example, one might argue
that as a company Merck only has responsibilities to release effective and safe medications and to
make a profit to stay in business. On the other hand, it could be argued that as a pharmaceutical
company Merck has special obligations to follow leads (like ivermectin) because they may greatly
benefit human beings or save lives despite being unprofitable.
Utilitarianism is relevant to the Merck Co. case in that it would have been important for Merck to
predict whether researching the drug further, or playing it safe with other research, would produce
the greatest benefit for the largest number of people. One side would argue that while river
blindness patients are poor, treatment would be of great benefit to those infected (and their
families/communities), so research is warranted. On the other hand, one might argue that it would
be of equal or greater benefit to research medications for more common diseases where patients
can afford medication. They may also argue that if the company went out of business as a result of
ivermectin research that more people would be harmed from the loss of Merck s other research and
medications.
Also, the Rights theory is appropriate in this case, because one might argue that basic human rights
are involved. Merck might be responsible to do research with ivermectin if it s decided that some
basic right is being broken.

Essay about Transformation of Homewood West Community
Homewood West is located on the eastern side of Pittsburgh and is one of the three neighborhoods
that make up the Homewood community, along with Homewood North and Homewood South.
Homewood West was once a thriving neighborhood with an abundance of upper class families and
an economy that depended heavily on the city s railroad system, that made economic opportunities
readily available and housing that was affordable and convenient (Allegheny County DHS 2010).
African Americans were the first to inhabit Homewood, However many whites moved into the
neighborhood, causing tension within the community, during a time period where racism was still
a major factor in society. According to the Allegheny DHS (2010), by 1910, Homewood s

Now, Homewood West has a total population of 818 people, which has steadily declined since the
1950 s (U.S. Census 2010). This transformation has had some major effects on this neighborhood,
making economic opportunities hard to find. A lack of quality education, and high crimerates have
caused businesses to leave the area, creating vacant buildings and broken down homes, lowering
the value of properties and the hopes of bringing businesses back to the community. Residents in
Homewood are affected by all these things and have the community at a standstill, looking for ways
to fix them.
Demographics and Crime
My first perception of Homewood made me a little nervous about the idea of going into a
neighborhood with such a high crime rate, especially being a kid from a suburban area with
mostly white middle class families. Going into a neighborhood that was 95.6 percent black was
definitely out of my comfort zone (U.S. Census 2010). My perception of Homewood quickly
changed however, once I started to talk to people there. To my surprise, many were well educated
and very welcoming, and ambitious people, striving to make the community better. Many of them
noted the issues in the neighborhood, and stated that they had a lot of work to do but they made me
leave Homewood West with hope.
As I started my journey into Homewood, I made my way down Franktown Avenue past the
YWCA I started to see differences from the city and why a lot of residents are struggling to make

Cyber Security And Security Of The Users
Abstract
Vehicular networking technology is no more a futuristic concept it is becoming a reality with the
aim of providing services related to traffic safety, traffic efficiency and infotainment [1]. When these
kinds of services are introduced, they also bring in the vulnerabilities associated with them,
resulting in increased number of security threats and attacks. Hence, it is very important to ensure
that these services do not compromise the safety and security of the users [2]. This paper aims to
provide a brief overview of cyber security in vehicular networks by analyzing its vulnerabilities,
challenges and solutions.
I. Introduction
Vehicular networks consist of in vehiclenetworks and vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The in
vehicle network consists of several Electronic Control Units (ECUs) connected to each other using
different communication protocols like Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect
Network (LIN), etc. [3]. The in vehicle network helps in implementing applications like climate
control, engine management, transmission etc. VANETs include vehicle to vehicle (V2V)
communication and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication; the combination of which
enables in making driving safer and better.
Keeping the safety applications in mind, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) announced in 2014 that it will start crafting a new rule which would require cars to talk
to each other [4]. While this is a major step in making

Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher
Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory
would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American
man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland,
but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues,
upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that
was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood
issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his
very own.
Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive
understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately
drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look
into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their
preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy
sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the
process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the
relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from
with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone,
once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of
months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the
circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and
one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure,
Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother.
When talking about his relationships with his foster family, Antwone eventually discusses how his
foster mother s cousin, Nadine, raped him when he was just six years old.
A counselor, such as Davenport, can parallel Antwone s past

Free Trade and the Economy of Canada Essay
Free Trade and the Economy of Canada
Free trade is the act of exchanging goods or services between countries for minimal tariffs or fees.
Between countries, this is a method of exchange that is gaining more and more popularity. By
importing and exporting for low fees, free trade is an efficient way to cover up weaknesses in the
country and gain on strengths. Free trade is a very controversial topic that is viewed upon

The comparative advantage for computers, then, would go to Japan because they are more efficient
at making them. They produce more computers and give up less than Canada does.
Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free
trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing
computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the
products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free
trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both
countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they
are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by
trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country
and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they
receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative
advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55).
In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and
producers. First, by establishing trade connections with other countries, it allows Canada to
specialize in producing what it is best in producing. No longer does

Whole Foods Market ( Wfm ) Essay
Whole Foods Market (WFM) is a leading natural and organic food supermarket founded in
Austin, Texas by four local business people: John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy, owners of
Safer Way Natural Foods, and Craig Weller and Mark Skiles, owners of Clarksville Natural
Grocery. WFM opened its first store in 1980, they staffed their first store with only 19 workers,
the store was an immediate success partly because at the time there were less than half a dozen
organic stores in the entire country. The original WFM store opened on September in 1980 after
Safer Way and Clarksville Natural Foods partnered, the 10,500 square feet location was quite
larger than the standard health food store of the 80 s. The business had its first hiccup a year
after they opened their doors, their entire inventory was lost and most of the equipment was
damaged by a historic flood that devastated the city of Austin. The owners did not have
insurance but they were able to quickly get back on their feet due to the volunteered help of
neighbors and customers as well as the help of creditors, vendors, and investors who provided
breathing room for them. The store reopened just after 28 days of the flood. The expansion of
the business happened quickly in the late 80 s. New locations appeared in Houston and Dallas,
then New Orleans. In 1989, WFM expanded to the West Coast and opened a store in Palo Alto,
CA. WFM started acquiring several different natural foods chains such as Wellspring Grocery of

Women s Views On Women
In the United States, study after study continues to show that women have fewer opportunities to
advance in the workplace than men. These disadvantages are a result of society s views of women
in leadership positions and how women may view themselves in these roles. Women have been
making progress in terms of equality in pay and job positions, but significant gaps remain. Women
who strive to be promoted into higher levels of responsibility in their companies often meet
resistance that prevents them from achieving the goal of a senior or executive level of management.
This barrier is referred to as the glass ceilingand it is a controversial issue in our country today. The
glass ceiling called this because women are able to see the higher level positions, but can reach
them because of an intangible barrier. One can look at the Fortune 500companies, which are the
most successful companies in the U.S. in terms of revenue to see how few women are in
leadership positions. Clearly, women are significantly underrepresented in these companies, as less
than 5 percent of these companies have female chief executive officers (CEO) today (Dockterman
105). Providing the opportunity for women to move into management positions, like CEOs, would
bring a unique talent and a new perspective on how the company can operate to perform better
(Buckalew 147). The glass ceiling is a real obstacle that creates an intangible barrier that puts
women at a disadvantage in advancing in a company.

The Drought Conditions Of The Great Plains Region

Variations in the Prediction of Semipermanent Drought Conditions in the Great Plains Region and
the Methods Used to Derive These Predictions
Introduction
During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and
agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl,
was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper
understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme
dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching
the east coast.
Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the
Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was
experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be
much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their
paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In
their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that
have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and
temperature in the Great Plains area. The models and methods discussed include the Palmer
Drought Severity Index, the Coupled Model

Pablo Picasso s Guernic Close Visual Analysis

A large mural, Guernica is an example of Synthetic Cubism painted by Pablo Picasso (1881 1973).

The War Between America And America
During the time from 1800 1900 America had gone through a series of some tough growing
pains. It was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this
newly formed country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small
country s birth. Within the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to
prove its worth by each one. You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself,
what effects these battles had on America, and the battles that scared America the worst.
America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave
them the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land,
America had to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was
being groomed by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he
said in a letter to John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1)
Jefferson portraying to Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to
the crown. The thought that would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to
fight for the freedom they had earned. Unlike the French that fought and lost its revolution and
went back to a monarchy. (2) With this great nation it knew it needed great warriors, and the call to
arms would be answered by the United States Marine Corps.

The By Daniel Quinn s Ishmael, And Plato s Allegory Of...
Captivity is a subject that has been discussed thoroughly by many people. Captivity is the main
concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes
the compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements
Plato s allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to
distinguish the truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmaelwere both able to
indicate that there are two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with
human beings living in it, they cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and
the prisoners there is a raised way.. (DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who
were left to believe that the shadows casted before them were the real truth. But the second
group was people out of the cave. Similarly, Ishmael described that there were groups of people
in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is one vast prison, and except for a handful of
Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael has defined these two groups as Takers
and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the cave believing the world was made
for their conquering shadow. To further explain the difference between people in the cave and
people out of it, Quinn uses modern culture. You call yourselves civilized and all the rest
primitive...the people of London and Paris and Baghdad

Lodz Ghetto Thesis
LODZ GHETTO
The Lodz Ghetto was located in Poland. During its time throughout the events of World War II, it
was the second largest concentration camp in construction, only to Auschwitz Birkenau located in
southern Poland and opened up in 1940. We also saw the railroad tracks that were at the
concentration camp during the tour at the Holocaust museum. The Lodz Ghetto was started one
week after capture on the date of September 14th, 1939. It was as well one of the first camps to be
started under Germanic reign during World War II as well. Over 160,000 Jewswere stuffed into to
the poorly sanitized area. On November 7, 1939, Lodz was incorporated into the Third Reich and
the Nazi s changed its name to Litzmannstadt, named after a German general who died while
attempting to conquer Lodz in World War I.
The next several months were marked by daily round ups of Jews for forced labor as well as
random beatings and killings on the streets. It was easy to distinguish between Pole and Jew
because on November 16, 1939 the Nazi s had ordered Jews to wear an armband on their right arm.
The armband was the precursor to the Star Of David which was soon to follow on December 12,
1939. On December 10th, 1939, the Govenor of the Lodz area Friedrich Übelhör. He wrote a
secret memorandum, basically a memorandum is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Schizophrenia Is A Heterogeneous Illness
Schizophrenia is a heterogeneous illness that may involve several pathophysiological gender
differences. For men and women incidence risk peaks between 20 29 years of age, and women
also have a second risk peak between 30 39 years of age. Negative symptoms including low
motivation and withdrawal are more frequent in men and appear up to six years before diagnosis
(Hafner, 2005; Hafner et al., 1993; Morgan et al., 2008). Women exhibit greater levels of
depression and positive symptoms including sexual inappropriateness, impulsivity and delusions
(Mendrek et al., 2015; Van der Werf et al., 2014). Sex
differences in either age of onset or
prevalence of negative symptoms are not as evident in patients that have a family history of
schizophrenia (Bergen et al., 2014; Hafner et al., 1998).
Estrogen has been proposed to have a possible protective role that may account for a later age of
disease onset in women, when levels are lowest during post response rates to antipsychotic drugs
are also higher in women menopause (Allen et al., 2013; Hafner, 2005; Leung M.D. Chue M. R.
C. Psych., 2000; Ochoa et al., 2012). Obstetric complications have also been connected with an
increased risk of developing schizophrenia, an earlier age of disease onset, poorer outcomes and
ventricular enlargement. Such complications appear to be more frequent and severe in males than
females. (Allen et al., 2013; Dalman et al., 1999; Kelly et al., 2004). Prenatal exposure to influenza

Heroin Addictions
Ring, Ring, Ring... every time I hear that sound in the middle of the night, I am terrified to
answer my phone; I am waiting for the call where someone says Andy has died from an overdose.
Andy is my stepbrother, he has been battling his heroin addiction since we were fifteen years old,
and I have seen firsthand how this disease can rip a family apart. Andy s addictionhas inflicted such
tremendous stress and hurt on my parents and watching them try to help him recover from this
addiction is heartbreaking. It is heartbreaking because I am powerless to help heal our family; I
would not wish this pain on my worst enemy, because my stepbrother s addiction has been one of
the greatest trials of my own life.

Buprenorphine and methadone, both being opioids, activate the opioid (mu) receptors on nerve
cells. And both drugs have long half life s, meaning that they re long acting medications (Reuter,
Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). The chief difference between the two detoxifiers is the idea of
a partial agonist versus a full agonist; methadone and heroin are full agonist where as
buprenorphine is only a partial agonist (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). Methadone, as a
full mu opioid agonist, continues to produce effects on the receptors until either all receptors are
fully activated, or the maximum effect is reached (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser).
Whereas buprenorphine is a derivative of thebaine, an extract of opium. The drug is an opioid
partial agonist and thus can produce euphoria, analgesia, and sedation associated with opiates (US
Department of Justice). Essentially methadone has been proven to be more dangerous and addictive
than buprenorphine, but buprenorphine has also been proven to create dependency and death. It is
by their actions on opioid receptors that opioids achieve their analgesic (pain killing) as well as
their addictive effects (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). In layman s terms the partial
agonist of buprenorphine and the full agonist of methadone determine the effects and side effects of
the drug, buprenorphine is deemed milder than methadone

The Impact Of Gandhi On American Society Through Martin...
Most Americans know little about Hinduism and few imagine that the values of Hinduism had any
influence on the development of American society. But what little they do know of Hinduism is
most likely derived from their knowledge of Mahatma Gandhi. Few Americans realize that Gandhi s
teachings and life s work had a tremendous impact on the development of American society during
the Civil Rights Movement.
Mohandas K. Gandhi, known to the world as The Mahatma, or the Great Soul , brought a great
gift to the modern world. That gift was the light of Non Violence, of Service to the Community
and of Social Justice. His life served as an example and this light became a torch which illuminated

Moses VS Abraham Essay
In the Old Testament, Abraham and Moses were two very prominent leaders chosen by God to do
his will. Throughout Genesis and Exodus, both men play important roles in fulfilling God s will.
They are put to many tests, given covenants, and communicate constantly with God. Although they
have many similarities such as being leaders and men of God, there are also many differences
between the two.
In terms of leadership, Abraham was a noble leader. Although he grew up in a camp where the
notion of one God was not accepted, he eventually manages to become the leader of a tribe and
make the people believe in his faith. He leads them around endlessly from Ur to Canaan, to Egypt,
then back to Canaan. His tribe followed him around without much ... Show more content on

When they got on the top of the mountain, God saw that Abraham truly had faith in him, thus he
sent a ram instead so that Abraham did not have to sacrifice his son. Abraham never had a doubt
in God s will and was offering even to sacrifice his own flesh and blood to prove his undoubting
faith. Moses on the other hand, questioned God. When he first encounters God in the form of a
fiery bush, Moses questions God s will by asking, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring
the Israelites out of Egypt? (Exodus 3:11). Although he meets God in a physical form, he still
questioned him with doubts of his own abilities. Unlike Abraham who had unquestioning faith,
Moses started out his relationship with God with a lack of faith. Eventually, Moses does develop
the same undoubting faith that Abraham processed. Only initially did he have doubts about his
relationship with God.
Finally, they both received similar covenants, however they communicated with God in a
different way. God told Abraham, Leave your country, your people and your father s household and
go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make
your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses
you I will curse; and all people on earth will be blessed through you (Genesis 12:1 3). These

Sholeh Wolpe s I Was Sung Into This World
Sholeh Wolpe has written two poems that both explore death. During a question and answer
session with poet, Sholeh Wolpe, I was informed that her poem I Was Sung Into This World was
written from personal experience. Therefore, following the session, I was able to form connections
and draw a contrast between two poems. I Was Sung into This World was inspired by personal
experience where she contributes her own thoughts about death. However, She Forgot is written
from third person point of view where she reveals other s feelings towards death. Beds often stand
as a metaphor or visual aid for events such as life and death. Sholeh Wolpe focuses on these two
events in I Was Sung into This World and She Forgot and uses these events with

Symbolism In Virginia Woolf s Rope
As mentioned above, Porter s writings were influenced and shaped by the literary works she
read in her childhood, in particular, her usage of symbolism is greatly due to the influence of
Lauren Sterne, Jane Austen, Billy Bronte, Virginia Woolf s habitual usage of symbolism. This
element of writing is widely seen in Rope , as Katherine Porter prominently uses several items as
ways for manifesting the themes laid deep in her mind. First of all, the rope itself might be seen
as symbolic, because it is used to tie things up,or bound people if considering the implementation
of rope in the story. At the beginning of the story, a quarrel sparks out due to the husband buying
rope, and while it hasn t been yet decided whether the rope is going to stay with them, the quarrel
continues/goes on. This can be interpreted as the rope being a tying force of the couple, an since
the wife doesn t want the rope, there is no way for them to bound or unite. However, at the
moment the rope was been decided to be left with them, harmony prevails and the couple is
connected again. Thus, the retainment of rope results in the couple s reunion, being symbolic of
the rope tying people together. While the starting off pessimistically, there is a scent of optimism
by the end of the story. In addition to the rope, coffee can also be considered as a symbolic item in
Rope . Coffee can be seen as a representation of warmth and affection in their relationship. The
wife s drastic need for coffee can be

The term The Little Black Dress, the fragrance Chanel No. 5, the Chanel suit with its soft,

Chanel was a businesswoman who became successful by adopting fashion to the evolving role of
women in a rapidly changing wartime society; her vision that left a legacy which endures to this

The way regular people buy clothes today, choosing designs that are manufactured by the millions

Women of the twenties invested in lavish clothes from the most prestigious dressmakers they could

Examples Of Metonymy In The Quran
The Quran is the masterpiece of Arabic language from many standpoints such as linguistics and
stylistics. The vocabulary, style, eloquence, effectiveness, and the rich poetic rhythm of this
masterpiece, which lead to its linguistic and stylistic uniqueness, are the miracles of a Miracle, i.e.
the Quran. As Arberry in the introduction of his book the Koran interpreted states, the Quran is
neither poetry nor prose but a unique fusion of both (x).
Among the various rhetorical devices used in the Holy Qur an, metonymy is the one which is the
prime focus of this paper.
Metonymy, etymologically speaking, comes from the Greek word metonumia which means a
change of name (Li 1998). Instead of referring to something directly, we can use some other ...

This substitution is conditioned by the existence of a contiguity relation between the literal and
figurative meanings and the existence of an implicit clue indicating that the literal meaning is not
intended.
The notion of contiguity is at core of most definitions of metonymy. Traditional approaches locate
contiguity relationships in the world of reality, whereas cognitive approaches locate them at the
conceptual level. Lakoff and Johnson (30) think of contiguity in terms of the whole range of
conceptual associations commonly related to an expression. Lakoff (65) was the first who
accounted metonymic contiguity within the framework of idealized cognitive models (ICM). The
ICM concept is meant to include not only people s encyclopedic knowledge of particular domain
but also the cultural models they are part of.
The view of metonymy reflected in standard definitions tend to describe metonymy as a figure of
speech that consists in using the name of one thing for that of something else with which it is
associated. The cognitive view of metonymy makes different

Estrangement In Waiting For The Barbarians By David Malouf
The Post colonial genre in litterature deals with several themes such as opression, violence, and
diffrences between civilized folks and uncivilized folks. The two novels understudy are, Waiting
for the Barbarians by J.M Coetzee and Remembering Babylon by David Malouf, each published in
1980 and 1993. It principally deals with the feeling of estrangement a man can feel when he is torn
apart between his nature and his community. It is legitimate to question what leads men to wonder
about the deeds that his community pushes him to do. To what extend a community or a power can
bring a man to a complete estrangement towards his community?
Throughout the novels there are several leitmotive that conduct the two protagonists to a complete
estrangement, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Malouf s novel, Gemmy is often deshumanized. Gemmy is described as being part of the
other, he is a scarecrow (3). A black ! That was the boy s first thought. We re being raided by
blacks. After so many false alarms it had come. (2). The reader is brought to see the scene
through the eyes of a child, which also emphasizes the fear. Gemmy is also referred to as it ,
which shows how much he is unworthy of being referred to as a human.
Back to Coetzee s novel with the killing and tortures of an old barbarian man and his brutalized
grandson. In the book they are referred as frank and filthy (10) by the magistrate even though the
reader perceives the growing estrangement of the magistrate towards the Empire and their
inhuman deeds. There is also the scene in the book when Colonel Joll beats naked barbarians in
front of the crowd not hatred, not blood lust, but a curiosity so intense that their body are drained
by it and only their eyes live, organs of a new and ravening appetite. (115). Here the magistrate
estrangement towards the event and the empire is at its climax. Describing the scene as an act of
atrocity proves that the magistrate is completely estranged to

The Sun Also Rises Relationships
Love and friendship are a major theme in the course of the book, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest
Hemingway. As an expatriate himself, Hemmingway paints a realistic picture of life in 1920s
Paris, France through his protagonist Jake Barnes. To show the importance of his characters, the
lost generation, Hemingway writes of Jake and his friends, the places he visits, and the events he
enjoys. Due to postwar times, the relationships between Jake and his lover Brett, his friend Bill,
and antagonist Robert enhance the plot and do not represent the typical healthy relationships. The
type of love portrayed between Jake and Brett is not the typical fairy tale story due to the
disillusioned state of the characters in a self indulgent time. The war affected

How Did Industrialization Affect The Economy After The 1800s
After the 1800 s, the United States economy began to change drastically through industrialization,
big cities, and factories. All of these changes greatly affected daily life, labor norms, and trade.
There were new technologies in people s lives that helped the way they communicated and
travelled. Factories produced items faster and big cities led to more money, and more
opportunities. The government gave support to the market revolution in the ways they were
capable of doing so to help facilitate economic progress. Industrialization culturalized the economy
and the social life in the country at this time. This progress created new and improved jobs that
boosted the nations economy, which also allowed for more technological advancements. Better

Chicago, which was swampy at first, had no mountain barrier; this allowed easy traveling for trade.
Chicago was also economically linked to New York because the moneymakers like William Butler,
helped developed Chicago. Butler brought money to Chicago to help it become the booming city it
eventually did. The new city became an industrial powerhouse, which linked the entire United States
from the Erie Canal down to the Mississippi River. Connecting Chicago to these canals and rivers
allowed it to turn into enormous global trade area. The Lowell Mills also created a new type of
work life. The hours were dependent on the clock, not on sunrise, women were working in the
factories and it created the putting out system. The Lowell Mills had the girls working all day,
producing clothing for little pay and in tough working conditions. The girls had to sleep in the
boarding houses if they worked at the mills. The boarding houses were closely supervised, they
had to attend church, the doors locked at 10:00 p.m. and they had to work and eat on the bell

Identifying with Alexei in Dostoevsky s The Gambler
The literary character that I most readily identify with would be
Dostoevsky s Alexei, The Gambler. I can relate to him because like me, he is a man of many
passions. He is also all but helpless against his addiction to gambling. I have also felt helpless to
certain circumstances in my life, as have we all. He is capable of much more than what his society
allows him to be.
That is to say he may be a lowly tutor, but he care s about justice and the atrocities committed by
the high born class. I, through faults of my own and
Injustices of my school s administration, also was limited, as Alexei was as to what people thought
of me and how they treated me.

Instead, she realized that his one true love was not her but gambling. Whenever I read this story, I
think of how much this character that
Fyodor Dostoevsky created is similar, in a lot of ways, to myself. I find myself the object of
addictions in general. I used to smoke cigarettes and feel helpless against it. Sure, I d stop for a
day or two here and there but once I forgot about the misery cigarettes brought me, I would light up
another. I feel better now that I stopped smoking but I am scared that it won t last.
Like Alexei, I have been interested in the same girl for many years.
Just of late, something that I thought would never happen, is happening. I have the chance to be
with this girl and I think I m messing it up. She has been my friend for many years and now it s
moved past friendship into something better and worse. Even though this is happening in the
present and I know what to look for, I find myself powerless to the seemingly definite ruin that I
feel is coming. It s so frustrating knowing all these things and not being able to change them, or at
least feeling as though you can t change them.
In my junior year in high school, I took up a personal crusade against what I called the evil
administration at my school. I repeatedly got in trouble for things I deemed acceptable but were
still against the rules. For instance, one morning I decided that I didn t want to salute the flag. I

  • 2. Kitakata Ramen Business Kitakata Ramen is a small, family owned restaurant that just opened up about a month ago. I worked in a resale shop next door and was privileged with the task of quality assurance a few weeks before they open officially. Business seems to be booming for them and people are always packed into the entrance. They only serve ramen, as the name would suggest, and the plaza the shop is located at is quite busy. The store itself stands out in stark contrast to the other restaurants nearby. The plaza that the shop is located in also is home to a local Jewel Osco which, by itself, already sees hundreds of shoppers daily. Lining the giant parking lot is a number of other businesses that also tend to be busy. An optometrist office, a beauty shop, a real estate office, and even a Burlington Coat factory. Needless to say, it got plenty of foot traffic in the months leading to its opening. Another great aspect of its location it s the only ramen shop nearby. Right on the edge of the suburbs, it has a massive pool of consumers that see its unique storefront and giant menu on its window every day. Most Jewel Osco customers will live very nearby and will know that there really isn t a substitute for a quick bowl of handmade, authentic Japanese ramen. In effect, Kitakata has carved itself a niche in the restaurant industry by offering cheap foodin the suburbs that matches the quality of a restaurant one might find in the city for twice the price. The restaurant itself is very well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic On April 14th April 15th the R.M.S. Titanic struck a 2,000 ton iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are many questionable reasons to as why the Titanic sank, but there are always the basic ideas. Scientists have theories, but not everything has become proven facts except that the ship did hit an iceberg. The R.M.S. Titanic was affected by weather, design of the ship, or even simple human mistakes. Some speculation about the weather has existed ever since the R.M.S. Titanic has sunk. Some believe it was tides, temperature, or even mirages across the ocean, but let s dig a bit deeper and find what makes these conclusions become reasonable explanations. On January 4, 1912, three months before the Titanic set sail, a solar eclipse occurred. The moon came closer than it has ever been to Earth in 1,400 years, and Earth made its annual close distance to the sun. The last time this had ever happened was in 796 A.D., and the next time this will occur is the year 2257. When this eclipse happened, it made the tides change in drastic measures. On the banks of Greenland floated a 2,000 ton iceberg. Due to the tide changes, this 2,000 ton iceberg split in half, resulting in a 1,000 ton iceberg that gets sent off southward. Coincidentally, the iceberg ends up off the coast of Newfoundland in about 3 months. Usual travel time for icebergs that far is 5+ months. Where this iceberg ends up, is right in the Titanic s path on April 14th. Was this fate, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Failures Of Indira Gandhi Week Ten: This weeks analysis on Indira Gandhi helped me unpack her successes and failures. Some of the major failures that my group talked about was the forced sterilization, state of emergency, religious divide, censorship and corruption. The mass forced sterilization was ultimate failure in my eyes and as I talked about prior a major human rights violation. Interestingly, Indira Gandhi had no gender policy during her reign. One would think that a women politician would want to address so many of the problems that plague women on a daily basis. If I was a women in Indiaduring the time where Indira Gandhi came to power, I would have been devastated that she was not interested in improving women s rights. Indira also reinforced the religious divide within India, especially for the Sikhs. She ended up exacerbating tensions in the region, which ultimately lead to her demise. While she did have a lot of failures, this weeks class helped bring to light some of her successes as well. Prior to this class I only really thought of her failures and even during class my group had a hard time coming up with anything. I think her lack of credentials and her short sidedness made her ill prepared to be a ruler. Throughout this class I began to admire Nehru and his leadership of India; however, with Indira I felt myself being angry and disappointed with her ruling style. Rajiv Gandhi s rise to power was even more abrupt than his mothers. He was even less qualified than his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Security exchanges physically occupy space and financial instruments are traded on such premises. a.Major stock exchanges must comply with a strict set of reporting requirements established by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These exchanges are said to be registered. b.Organized security exchanges provide several benefits to both corporations and investors. They (l) provide a continuous market, (2) establish and publicize fair security prices, and (3) help businesses raise new financial capital. c.A corporation must take steps to have its securities listed on an exchange in order to directly receive the benefits noted above. Listing criteria differ from exchange to exchange. 2.Over the counter markets include all security markets except the organized exchanges. The money market is a prominent example. • 6. Black Males Able To Vote Essay Ever since the first African Americans came to Jamestown in 1619, getting along has never been easy. Even though there was 200 years of slavery until the prevail of the civil war and the abolition of slavery, most people forget that some African Americans were free during that time, but how free were they? Free African Americans in the Northern states were free, but had no rights based on the voting chart, Charles Mackay s excerpt, and Charles Andrews excerpt. Out of the three regions in the North, black males could only vote in one of them. Mackay recognizes their freedom , but denies African Americans of their rights. Finally, Andrews who was the top of his class explains how there s no place for his talent. Free African Americans may have had freedom, but not the freedom that white males had, and certainly not the rights they needed to fully function in society. In the voting chart, it shows if black males could vote or do jury duty in each state in the North in 1860. The data it shows says that in the Mid Atlantic and Midwest, most black males were either not permitted or were restricted to vote. Only in New England could black male suffrage have any chance, even if it s only a little. Even when being free, black males could only vote in five states, and do jury duty in one. First describe the process, or what is meant, by the term receptor desensitization. What does it mean when we say that the receptor is uncoupled versus down regulation of the receptor? Define and contrast the roles of the second messenger dependent protein kinases versus the G protein coupled receptorkinases in the process of receptor desensitization. What do the terms homologous versus heterologous desensitization refer to? (Ferguson, Pharmacological Reviews 53:1 24, 2001; Gainetdinov et al., Annual Review of Neuroscience 27:107 144, 2004; Vasudevan et al., Cell Cycle 10:3684 3691, 2011). Receptor desensitization: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This process called the uncoupled . Down regulation means the receptor mRNA and protein synthesis decrease and the preexisting receptor degradation. The uncouple and down regulation are both involved in the receptor desensitization, but in different steps. These steps are following described. First, the receptor uncouple from heterotrimeric G proteins; Second, cell surface receptors internalize into intracellular membranous compartments; Third, receptor mRNA and protein synthesis decrease result in the down regulation of the total cellular complement of receptors, as well as both the lysosomal and plasma membrane degradation of pre existing receptors. There are two generally kinases which are G protein coupled receptor kinase GRKs and second messenger dependent protein kinases(e.g., PKA and PKC). The G protein coupled receptor kinase only act on the phosphorylate agonist activate receptor. For example, GRK family members work on activated receptors, and then promote the binding of cytosolic arrestins, which sterically uncouple the receptor from heterotrimeric G protein. In contrast, second messenger dependent proteins kinases act on both phosphorylate agonist activated GPCRs and other phosphorylates receptors that have not been exposed to agonist. Thus, agonist independent phosphorylation can only happen with the second messenger dependent protein kinases, but GRKs cannot do it. When we recognize the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Events Of The 1942 Bataan Death Essay The events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March reflect the Japanese views on surrender and explain the reason why a mass execution followed their enemy s surrender. Japan s forced, unconditional surrender to end World War II demonstrates the beginning of a Japanese cultural evolution. The following excerpts from an uncovered journal written by Joseph Daniels, an American soldier stationed in the Philippines, document a survivor s perspective on the events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March. December 8, 1941 Joseph Daniels, Pvt. U.S. Marine Corp It was a bright, sunny morning in the Philippines. I woke to the sound of birds chirping and the quiet chatter of my fellow soldiers who had begun to prepare for the long day ahead of us. I rubbed my groggy eyes, attempting to relieve the constant effects of insomnia and to force myself to get moving. Sleep for a soldier was a highly revered pleasure, but when it came, it didn t come in abundant amounts and it often left us feeling even more tired than we were before. Nevertheless, I had a country to defend and duties to fulfill. This was one of the many sacrifices of an American soldier a position which I served with absolute honor and pride. I laced up my combat boots and made my way out of the tent to greet the other soldiers at camp. It all started one evening as I was doing an Internet business seminar for a local S.C.O.R.E. chapter. I was talking about how to increase the value of email in your business. • 20. Analysis Of Les Six Les Sis The 1920 s were an extraordinary time in Paris. The war had ended. Musicians, artist, writers, poets, film makers and choreographers were friends and influenced one another. There was a sense of optimism and excitement. Composers were finding inspiration in popular sources, circus music and jazz which was being heard for the first time. Les Six were a group of six young French musicians during this time; Arthur Honegger, Darius Mihaud, Francis Poulenc, Georges Auric, Louis Durey and Germaine Tailleferre, the group s only woman. They were brought together by their adverse reactions to the impressionism of French composers such as Debussy and Ravel. The music critic Henri Collet coined the group s name in 1920. Inspired by the more abstract and unadorned compositions of Erik Sate and the writings of Jean Cocteau they sought to write in a style that was more simple and sophisticated. Their friendship brought them together, however they maintained their own distinctive styles. Francis Poulenc The finest choral composer of Les Six his works are known for their melodic invention and originality. Because Poulenc s family intended for him to have a career in the family business he was largely self taught. His music often juxtaposes humor and irony with the sentimental and melancholy. • 23. The Effect Of Shallow And Deep Levels Of Processing On... Abstract This was a study conducted at IUP on undergraduate students to see if processing information at certain levels would improve memory recall. During the study, we presented the participants with a PowerPoint of information on a made up country. The participants was randomly assigned to a shallow, medium, or deep processing instruction, which explained to them how to take notes throughout the presentation. After, students recieved a distractor task for 15 minutes, and after given a multiple choice test on the information showed on the slides. The results showed that there was no significant difference between note taking instructions and the number of correct answers. All three task instructions in the study showed similar means on the recall test. Effects of Shallow to Deep Levels of Processing on Memory Recall Sources Craik and Lockhart (1972) conducted a study where they first introduced the theory of depth of processing, also known as levels on processing. They said that memory processing had levels ranging from shallow to deep. They said that people processed words at a shallow, moderate or deep level. Shallow processing, also known as structural encoding, is when physical features of the information is analyzed. They found that information is usually forgotten because the processing does not involve meaning, so it creates memory that is weak, resulting in information being harder to retrieve. One way to define moderate processing, also known as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There have been many cases to humans acting out of pure righteousness by standing by and supporting their true and sincere morals, whereas others have revealed the deep evil within us through acts of brutality, savagery, or manipulation. Percy Bysshe Shelley one wrote, Power, like a desolating pestilence, Pollutes whate er it touches . This quote expresses Shelley s opinion that power does not come without corruption. I support Shelley s assertion because her belief can be proven not only through examples from the book, A Tale of Two Cities , but can also be found in historical event, as well as human nature in general.... One may conclude that, because humans are not born with immediate mental fortitude, it may be a part of human nature to be corrupted by power. An example of this would be when the Marquis of France abused their royal titles. On the other hand, it could be argued that as a pharmaceutical company Merck has special obligations to follow leads (like ivermectin) because they may greatly benefit human beings or save lives despite being unprofitable. Utilitarianism is relevant to the Merck Co. case in that it would have been important for Merck to predict whether researching the drug further, or playing it safe with other research, would produce the greatest benefit for the largest number of people. One side would argue that while river blindness patients are poor, treatment would be of great benefit to those infected (and their families/communities), so research is warranted. On the other hand, one might argue that it would be of equal or greater benefit to research medications for more common diseases where patients can afford medication. They may also argue that if the company went out of business as a result of ivermectin research that more people would be harmed from the loss of Merck s other research and medications. Also, the Rights theory is appropriate in this case, because one might argue that basic human rights are involved. Merck might be responsible to do research with ivermectin if it s decided that some basic right is being broken. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Residents in Homewood are affected by all these things and have the community at a standstill, looking for ways to fix them. Cyber Security And Security Of The Users Abstract Vehicular networking technology is no more a futuristic concept it is becoming a reality with the aim of providing services related to traffic safety, traffic efficiency and infotainment [1]. When these kinds of services are introduced, they also bring in the vulnerabilities associated with them, resulting in increased number of security threats and attacks. Hence, it is very important to ensure that these services do not compromise the safety and security of the users [2]. This paper aims to provide a brief overview of cyber security in vehicular networks by analyzing its vulnerabilities, challenges and solutions. I. Introduction Vehicular networks consist of in vehiclenetworks and vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The in vehicle network consists of several Electronic Control Units (ECUs) connected to each other using different communication protocols like Controller Area Network (CAN), Local Interconnect Network (LIN), etc. [3]. The in vehicle network helps in implementing applications like climate control, engine management, transmission etc. VANETs include vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication; the combination of which enables in making driving safer and better. • 31. Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland, but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues, upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his very own. Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone, once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure, Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother. Because Japan has the comparative advantage in producing computers in that example, free trade would maximize both country s production by having Japan specialize in producing computers and Canada specialize in producing cars. Then, both countries could trade the products they specialize in for the other, at a fair rate to be determined separately. Without free trade, each country had a bigger limit on what good they could produce. With trade, both countries still have a limit to what the countries can produce, but since they are trading what they are best at producing, they are maximizing the total numbers of goods in the country. Thus by trade at a fair, un taxed rate, they are capable of having more goods and services in their country and any given time. Both countries are able to produce the best they can and thus from trade, they receive the most of the other good as they possibly can. This is known as the law of comparative advantage (Mankiw, Kneebone, McKenzie Rowe 55). In Canada, the law of comparative advantage produces enormous benefits for both consumers and producers. Whole Foods Market ( Wfm ) Essay Whole Foods Market (WFM) is a leading natural and organic food supermarket founded in Austin, Texas by four local business people: John Mackey and Renee Lawson Hardy, owners of Safer Way Natural Foods, and Craig Weller and Mark Skiles, owners of Clarksville Natural Grocery. WFM opened its first store in 1980, they staffed their first store with only 19 workers, the store was an immediate success partly because at the time there were less than half a dozen organic stores in the entire country. The original WFM store opened on September in 1980 after Safer Way and Clarksville Natural Foods partnered, the 10,500 square feet location was quite larger than the standard health food store of the 80 s. • 34. Women s Views On Women In the United States, study after study continues to show that women have fewer opportunities to advance in the workplace than men. These disadvantages are a result of society s views of women in leadership positions and how women may view themselves in these roles. Women have been making progress in terms of equality in pay and job positions, but significant gaps remain. Women who strive to be promoted into higher levels of responsibility in their companies often meet resistance that prevents them from achieving the goal of a senior or executive level of management. This barrier is referred to as the glass ceilingand it is a controversial issue in our country today. The glass ceiling called this because women are able to see the higher level positions, but can reach them because of an intangible barrier. One can look at the Fortune 500companies, which are the most successful companies in the U.S. in terms of revenue to see how few women are in leadership positions. Clearly, women are significantly underrepresented in these companies, as less than 5 percent of these companies have female chief executive officers (CEO) today (Dockterman 105). Providing the opportunity for women to move into management positions, like CEOs, would bring a unique talent and a new perspective on how the company can operate to perform better (Buckalew 147). The Drought Conditions Of The Great Plains Region Jordan, Zachary Variations in the Prediction of Semipermanent Drought Conditions in the Great Plains Region and the Methods Used to Derive These Predictions Introduction During the 1930 s, a period of severe dust storms caused great damage to the ecology and agriculture of the Great Plains region in the United States. This period, known as the Dust Bowl, was caused by severe drought conditions and poor farming practices put into place without proper understanding of Great Plains ecology. The erosion of topsoil during this time produced extreme dust storms that could reduce visibility down to one metre and had some dust storms even reaching the east coast. Today, the threat of human induced global warming has caused some scientists to speculate that the Great Plains region is set to experience semipermanent drought conditions similar to what was experienced during the Dust Bowl. However, other scientists have claimed that conditions will be much tamer by comparison.. This inconsistency of results is discussed by Hoerling et al in their paper Is a Transition to Semipermanent Drought Conditions Imminent in the U.S. Great Plains? In their paper, it is suggested that the variance in results is due to the fact that the primary studies that have been conducted have used different methods and models to predict drought conditions and temperature in the Great Plains area. The essay will also argue that Guernica s meaning has changed to include becoming a symbol of peace and continues to fulfil its purpose as a form of protest. A large mural, Guernica is an example of Synthetic Cubism painted by Pablo Picasso (1881 1973). Created using the medium of oil paint on canvas with a narrow palette consisting of the neutral hues: white, grey and black; the formalist qualities of Guernica can have harrowing effects on the spectator, But to see it in real life, in its full size, is an even stronger emotional experience. Some people have said they experienced an instant rush of many powerful, fearful emotions (The Open University, 2016, Block 3, 2.2.2). It was recovering from its first war with Britain and would not be its last battle, for this newly formed country. The over whelming onslaught of war was just the start of this small country s birth. Within the 1800 s there were 35 wars in America s history and it was needing to prove its worth by each one. You will see reasons why a young country had to fight to save itself, what effects these battles had on America, and the battles that scared America the worst. America was a young country that had just beaten the British nation, that same power that gave them the opportunity to become America. Recovering from its wounds with the mother land, America had to tighten the reigns as the battles with other nations were about to start. America was being groomed by its founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson to become something greater as he said in a letter to John Adams, to establish each ward with reading, writing, and arithmetic. (1) Jefferson portraying to Adams that he wanted this country built on free thinkers and not slaves to the crown. The thought that would linger in every American during the 1800 s was that they had to fight for the freedom they had earned. Captivity is the main concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmaelwere both able to indicate that there are two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way.. (DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows casted before them were the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly, Ishmael described that there were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is one vast prison, and except for a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael has defined these two groups as Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the cave believing the world was made for their conquering shadow. Negative symptoms including low motivation and withdrawal are more frequent in men and appear up to six years before diagnosis (Hafner, 2005; Hafner et al., 1993; Morgan et al., 2008). Women exhibit greater levels of depression and positive symptoms including sexual inappropriateness, impulsivity and delusions (Mendrek et al., 2015; Van der Werf et al., 2014). Sex differences in either age of onset or prevalence of negative symptoms are not as evident in patients that have a family history of schizophrenia (Bergen et al., 2014; Hafner et al., 1998). Methadone, as a full mu opioid agonist, continues to produce effects on the receptors until either all receptors are fully activated, or the maximum effect is reached (Reuter, Nicholas, and Reckitt Benckiser). When he first encounters God in the form of a fiery bush, Moses questions God s will by asking, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? (Exodus 3:11). This element of writing is widely seen in Rope , as Katherine Porter prominently uses several items as ways for manifesting the themes laid deep in her mind. First of all, the rope itself might be seen as symbolic, because it is used to tie things up,or bound people if considering the implementation of rope in the story. At the beginning of the story, a quarrel sparks out due to the husband buying rope, and while it hasn t been yet decided whether the rope is going to stay with them, the quarrel continues/goes on. However, at the moment the rope was been decided to be left with them, harmony prevails and the couple is connected again. Thus, the retainment of rope results in the couple s reunion, being symbolic of the rope tying people together.
