Essay On Tommy And Mr. Atkins
A British soldier is expected to stand firm, with a non wavering heart as the enemy approaches. They
are to protect the Queen and her beliefs at all costs. A gentleman and a fighter, that is a soldier of the
Queen s army. They expect to return home to the people of the United Kingdom s praise and respect
after their conquests, however they were met with mistreatment and sometimes scorn during the year
of 1892. On the surface, Tommy is a representation of the juxtaposition of how war is seen by those
that are being protected, but this creative piece is an example of what it is like when the people of a
country respect the toils of war but not the soldier. Kipling accomplishes this by changing what could
be good English to bad English so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

emptiness the soldier must have felt as he was forced to sleep in the hall in lieu of a

Excessive Force Research Paper
Introduction/Background
What is excessive force? Excessive force is when the force exceeds the required amount to deescalate
a situation or to safeguard themselves or others from any hurt, harm or danger from an individual.
United States constitutional rights are to be free from excessive force found under reasonable search
and seizure conditions in the Fourth Amendment and cruel and unusual punishment in the Eighth
Amendment.
The use of excessive force has been an ongoing problem and still exists to be a major concern for the
United States today. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible due to the matter; the police
officers are losing the people s trust in their communities which creates a dangerous environment for
law enforcement officers to operate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Excessive force is becoming more of an issue as society grows and crimes evolve. Some of the
problem stems from the illegal exercises of police power due to lack of funds for adequate training,
short staffing and resources. Law enforcement officers work is a very dangerous environment. Law
enforcement officers need to be equipped with the necessary tools to fight the war on crime, especially
when excessive force is needed. While on the other hand, there have been circumstances where law
enforcement officers used extreme measures that led to question if it was excessive force, brutality,
unauthorized force, wrongful force, unjustified force, misuse of force, and unnecessary force. Law
enforcement job is to serve and protect their communities, but without the proper tools in their tool
box, it will cause them more harm than good. Furthermore, there are known practices such as basic
defensive tactics training and de escalation of force strategies that could be utilized.

Pros And Disadvantages Of Bioterrorism
BIOTERRORISM
DEFINITION
Bioterrorrism comes the word bio and terrorism.Bio comes the word biological agent while terrorism
is violence and threats to intimidate and force people to follow some rules especially when it related to
politics. So bioterrorism means sudden outbreak of biological agent dissemination for violence and to
threats to intimidate people. They deliberate release these biological agent such as viruses, bacteria,
toxin or germs and cause death to innocent people. Viruses have several advantages when comparing
with bacteria. Virus is more resistant in antibiotics compared to bacteria. Furthermore, virus is more
dangerous compared to bacteria. Virus is very difficult to overcome and can cause severe illness and
sometimes lead to death. Biological agent can spread to world by many ways. They can spread
through food, air or water. So it makes terrorist`s work easier to force and intimidate innocent people.
United State is one of the country that is widely popular of bioterrorism but other developing countries
also have this bioterrorism because these developing countries usually attack other countries by
bioterrorism. Bioterrorism is the most commonly use because it is easy and can attack people silently
or softly because it is very hard to be detected.

Labor And The Collective Bargaining Process
1.1 The actors who are generally involved in the collective bargaining process are Management but
more specifically, the owners and shareholders, executives and managers and the industrial and human
resource people. In the collective bargaining process in labor it is the individual employees and the
labor unions which represent them. In local, state, and federal government agencies and the public. It
is the government agencies that act as representatives of the public interest and are responsible for
making policies. 2.1 Some basic assumptions about labor and conflict are society has an impact on
labor activities, that conflict is gong to happen between labor and management. This conflict is not
always unhealthy though. Another assumption is that conflict comes from labor and management
having different social and economic interests. There are multiple perspectives from labor and
management. 3.2 Some of the legal reaction toward unionization before the NLRA were that unions
were viewed as criminal conspiracies up until 1842. Unions were viewed as violating a worker s right
to bargain with their employer as they wish and was not until Commonwealth vs Hunt that unions
were not considered as criminal conspiracies. By 1935 Injunctions became used widely and unions
were no longer considered criminal conspiracies. If union activities were found illegal, Judges began
putting injunctions against these activities and was the judge s determination if a union s action

Civil War Turning Point Analysis
Before the Civil War, tensions between the North and South were rising. The North put protective
tariffs on the South for their own benefit and Lincoln planned on abolishing slavery in the expanding
territories. Those actions made the South angry and viewed them as a threat to their lifestyle. As a
result, this led to the Civil War. As the war went on, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to
Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. This was a colossal
turning point as this led to the end of the Civil War, making the North victorious. However, during the
attempts to unite the country back together, the attempt of the Radical Republicans trying to gain
support backfired. White Southerners were so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the North need a great leader the most, they had Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was an
effective leader during the war. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver.
Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than to
originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he should
leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army, the
leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many battles in
1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change leadership styles. He
became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders and used his power as
Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct instructions to his generals. Lincoln
placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied his suggestions, into strict military relation
to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker orders as he would have to obey them. In other
words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this
leadership style to a more dominant one, the Union army won important victories, notably at
Vicksburg and Gettysburg. Lincoln s leadership got the Union army moving and eventually got
General Lee to surrender at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia in 1865, winning the Civil

Plant Competition
Plant Competition
INTRODUCTION
This experiment was used to show the different types of competition between species. Competition
was defined as being a relationship between members of the same or different species in which
individuals are adversely affected by those having the same living requirements, such as food or space
(Competition 2010). There are two different types of competition that we will be observing during this
experiment. The first type would be intraspecific, which means competition between same species
(1976). The second type of competition is interspecific, which is defined as competition between
different species (1976). These two types of competition have helped us look at the different types of
interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first pot was filled with bean seeds and exposed to only high light. The second pot was filled with
radish seeds and exposed to only high light. The third pot was filled with bean seeds but exposed to
low light. The fourth pot was filled with radish seeds and exposed to low light. The fifth and final pot
was filled with bean and radish seeds. After allowing the plants to grow we then measured the length
of the largest leaf on each plant. We then cut the plants and weighed them. To measure the leaves we
used a standard ruler measuring the largest leaf on each stalk. We then cut the plants as close to the
soil as possible and weighed them individually on a scale.
RESULTS Radish Leaf Length | Radish High | Radish Mixed | Mean | 42.63245 | 31.7856 | Variance |

The significance is to show that this is an example of interspecific competition and which radish is the
better competitor. Based on this chart, the radish high is the better competitor because it produced the
most observed sprouts. However, the radish mixed had a higher variance and larger leaves so this
would mean that the radish mixed would be a better competitor the for leaf length. Bean Leaf Length |

Google and Its Innovative System
Google, as an internet based company founded in 1996, which has done a tremendous progress in the
past 13 years, is particularly successful and innovative. In 2007, Google surpassed Microsoft as the
most visited site on the Web (Kopytoff V, 2007). The company s influence on the Web is undeniable.
Many would ask: How did Google manage to grow up from a nobody to a giant of internet based
companies in such a short time? The answer has much to do with one of the most important elements
of Google s organizational culture Innovation. This paper will begin by discussing the innovation
ecosystem built by Google, it will then show how Google works under this innovation ecosystem and
why Google deploy this type of management, finally, it will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allows Google to create a large volume of new ideas and innovations, any engineer in Google
could freely work across teams to create a new product or feature without transferring to the specific
department. An evidence shows that more than 50 new products resulted from Google engineers‟ 20%
time investments accounting for half of all new products and features(including Gmail, AdSense, and
Google News)developed during that period (Lyer Davenport 2008 pp.64). The reason Google invested
substantively to create such an innovation ecosystem is due to the highly competitive market and
Google‟s ambitious mission. As a young internet based company, Google‟s leaders realized that
without enough innovation, it is extremely hard to compete with companies such as Microsoft and
IBM, after Google‟s Online search engine became its solid and profitable infrastructure, Google is not
satisfied of what this backbone has brought to itself anymore. Thus, leaders of Google pay much
attention to their ultimate mission, organizing the world s information and making it universally
accessible and useful. It is a such imperial goal that could take Google over hundred years of time to
achieve it, but the leaders of Google are strategically patient, as CEO Eric Schmidt said at 2007 Bear

The Weary Blues
Lindsey Blasé Brown The Music of Sadness The Weary Blues, by Langston Hughes, tells a story of an
unnamed narrator recalling an evening of listening to a man sing the blues one night in Harlem.
Hughes uses a somber tone, depressed voice, syntax and imagery as language styles to convey a great
deal of suffering that was occurring in Harlem during the mid 1900 s. In The Weary Blues Hughes
uses imagery to communicate to the reader what the narrator is experiencing while listening to blues.
The reader can feel the slow and steady beat of the music: He did a lazy sway.../ He did a lazy sway...
(4 5). The flow of the two lines mimics the beat of the music. The reader can hear the pain in the voice
of the musician: In a deep voice with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Down on Lenox Avenue the other night ... O Blues! ... Sweet Blues! (3 4,11,14) When the narrator
says this, it tells the reader that he has a strong attachment to this memory and may be empathizing
with what the musician is singing. The rest of the poem is simply an account of the events that take
place that evening. Due to the lack of emotion from the narrator, the reader must look towards the
second character, the musician, for emotion that is behind the depressed voice. While the musician s
voice is only seen in the song lyrics, his voice plays the largest role communicating emotions to the
reader: I ain t happy no mo /And I wish that I had died (29 30). From this lyric the reader understands
that the musician is sad and appears to be depressed. At the end of the poem the narrator describes
what he believes the musician does: And far into the night he crooned that tune. The stars went out
and so did the moon. The singer stopped playing and went to bed While the weary blues echoed
through his head. (31 34) Due to the fact that the narrator could not actually know what the piano
player is thinking, the reader can say that the narrator is actually describing his own actions after
hearing the musician sing. Based on the lack of emotion given from the narrator and the blending of
the narrator and the musician s actions at the end of the poem, the speaker, has a common voice with
the piano player, both of whom are

Comparing Language In The Cask Of Amontillado And The Lady
A writer s craft of the English language, is like a spiders web, beautiful and unique. It is necessary so
the story can be woven in to create a masterpiece. The author can change the story entirely by
changing the way the narrator speaks. In The Cask of Amontillado , The Scarlet Ibis , and The Lady,
or the Tiger , each craft of language provides a vivid background for the story to unfold. The way each
writer provides certain vocabulary, and way of speaking enhances the reader s experience by giving
the reader a chance to guess the time period. Readers also guess the area the story is taking place by
using their knowledge that different regions in countries have different slang. The way the narrator

Near the beginning of the story, the narrator talks about their neighbor Miss Leedie, who was in love
with President Wilson and wrote him a letter every day (416). While talking about Miss Leedie, the
author seamlessly tells the setting of the story. President Wilson served in America from 1913 to 1921
and it is mentioned that he was the president during this short story. Later in the story, the narrator
mentions the barn loft was covered with a film of Paris green (418). Paris green was used by
Americans around the 1900s. The tone of the story starts out nostalgic, telling events that happened
when the narrator was younger, but then later the tone turns into a more regretful and guilty voice, for
pushing the younger brother past his limit. You can tell this by looking at the beginning, and seeing
how the narrator was so happy when his brother was born. The narrator then gets greedy and selfish,
making the younger brother feel bad about himself. Aw, come on, Doodle, I urged. You can do it. Do
you want to be different from everybody else when you start school? Does it make any difference? It
certainly does, I said (422). The determination to have a normal brother grows, and you can see this
when the narration is more about the wants of the narrator instead of how happy he is to have a
brother. Time was short, and Doodle still had a long way to go if he was going to keep up with the
other boys when he started school (422). The whole story evolves when the author makes the narrator
s heart harden and saying that the younger brother was more and more flawed. The author crafts his
story so that you have to think, instead of just telling you the purpose of the story, enhancing the
experience of the

Comparison of the Two Essays The Meaning of a Word and...
In The Meaning of a Word and Being a Chink , Gloria Naylor and Christine Leong examine words of
hatred that are meant to scorn, hurt and disgrace people. But these same words could also be used
without harmful intentions and in a fashion of endearment amongst the people those words were
created for. They each had a different word to discriminate their different culture and ethnicity. These
writers discuss the words nigger and chink , which are words in our language mostly ignorant people
use. Naylor and Leong are also both minorities who were raised in America. They talk about how
discrimination and hatred towards minorities is almost always inevitable in America, which is mostly
populated by Caucasians. Naylor and Leong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Living in America, it is again expected that these racial slurs are a part of our language. Leong writes
in her essay, Language is the tool used to define us and differentiate us from the next person.
Sometimes these things are innocuous, depending on the particular word and the context in which it is
used. Often they serve to ridicule and humiliate. Both of these writers explain how nigger and chink
are most commonly used in an offensive manner. But the people (chinks and niggers) that those words
were meant to hurt, are also used by the niggers and chinks in their daily conversations. It could be
applied to a man who had distinguished himself in some situation that brought their approval for his
strength, intelligence, or drive (Naylor,1986,p.470).
Naylor and Leong were both minorities raised in an area that was predominately populated by
Caucasians. Naylor writes, I was part of a large extended family that had migrated from the rural
South after World War II and formed a close knit network that gravitated around her maternal
grandparents. Her family knew what nigger meant (as all black people probably do), but was did not
let the dense true meaning of that word get in the way of living. Living in America, they took that
word of disgrace or shame and rendered it ineffective. They made it ineffective by ignoring and hiding
the word s true origins and meaning. Leong grew up in a suburban town in New Jersey populated

Political socialization the process in which people create and form new ideas that are mainly about

government makes can impact the way we do our daily routines. For example in the sociology

The Republic by Plato Essay
The Republic by Plato
At the beginning of Book I, we are introduced to the narrator, Socrates, and his audience of peers. We
are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of
Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and
modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s
unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the
ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in
by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he
knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who
knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other
than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a
philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual
exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation
toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints.
The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled
justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment.
He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his
own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then
successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the
best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his
crew.
Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and
benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Again, through a series of
examples, Socrates prevails the unjust man s pride and ambition are shown to be weaknesses,

Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade Essay
Equity of Trade Versus Free Trade
The U.S. has a huge trade imbalance with most trading nations. The imbalance is not in agriculture,
although many food products both raw and processed enter the U.S. at prices below those for
comparable U.S. grown foodstuffs. To a large degree the imbalance is in manufactured goods. One
reason is that many nations have lower costs of production based upon a lower standard of living,
cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have
moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds inexpensive manufacturing costs
and unlimited access to the world s biggest consumer market, the USA. Our laissez faire trade stance,

It s logical to believe that the foreign trading entity will not leave all the tariff money and accrued
interest to go into the U.S. Treasury by default. It will purchase a like amount of goods and services to

Analyze what happened: No one got taken advantage of. America got the imported goods. The foreign
entity received a like amount of American goods or services. The trade books are balanced. All monies
earned interest every step of the way.
The U.S. didn t allow inexpensive foreign goods to displace American goods on price alone. It made
the foreign goods compete on a quality basis with American goods. American consumers will make
the choice of which is better at a comparable price. If the foreign goods are really superior to the
American goods, then the foreign manufacturer will have earned an increased share of the world
market and the U.S. manufacturer or ag producer will have to get more competitive or go out of
business. The reverse is also true so the free market and the law of supply and demand still gets a
chance to work, but it works on the basis of quality and value, not upon inherent differences in world
standards of living.
Is it logical for the U.S. to unilaterally adopt Equity of Trade? It is logical if Americans want to
continue the nation s constitutional directive to protect the American

Charlie Gordon In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon
Daniel Keyes, in the story Flowers for Algernon , portrayed hope for a mentally disabled man, Charlie
Gordon. The operation that had the intention of helping Charlie to become a normal person had quite
the opposite effect. After the operation, Charlie became much smarter, at which point he realized how
different socially he was from his peers. His friends make fun of him, his coworkers want him to be
fired, made a saying that belittles him, and seeing a mentally impaired waiter at a restaurant leads him
to comprehend that he would never be the same as his peers. Another effect of Charlie s increase in
intelligence is that he knows how little Dr.Nemur and Dr.Strauss care about him. They did not tell him
about the potential dangerous side effects of the surgery, and thought of him as a lesser human being;
they went ahead with the surgery because they believed society ... Show more content on

Charlie wanted the doctors to choose him, because on some level he knew how atypical he was. From
the doctors perspective, the opportunity to make Charlie normal superseded his life; this is why they
neglected to tell him about the possible side effects of the operation. Disturbingly, the doctors knew
that Charlie could regress to his former state and possibly die; they decided not to inform him of this
fact because they wanted the recognition and praise that would be showered upon them if Charlie s
operation was a success. Charlie s impairment did not diminish his worth as a human being, but during
the experiment he was equated to a mouse, Algernon. The all encompassing reason for the doctors
wanting to fix Charlie was that they thought society would benefit. They wanted him to become, as
they perceived to be, normal, and to become a functioning member of society. At the expense of
Charlie s health and wellbeing, the doctors experimented on him, and treated him as if he was less of a

Evaluating Arguments For Film s Magic Essay
Evaluating Arguments in Film
Although films are a relatively new form of art, they have shaped the modern world more than any
other. It is true that visual art is equally compelling, but films appear as persuasive and capture the
viewer s emotions and interests. This effectiveness is on account of a movie s magic, which is simply
the cinematography techniques that filmmakers apply. These techniques are esoteric, and so hidden
from the eyes of an ordinary viewer. Only trained eyes can detect the filmmakers approaches and
judge whether or not they are relevant. When evaluating a film, one resort to two objects. As it were,
the first is to assess the film s magic, which refers to the ability of a film to capture and demand a
viewer s attention. Design, costumes, and lighting often appeal to this quarter. The second object is the
film s content. In other words, the story matters more than the representation. Through the story, the
filmmakers can postulate an argument, which the viewers can subtly engage (Winkler 13). In many
cases, the audience can forget the set designs and the costumes, but not the words and actions of the
characters. Troy is one of the movies with a powerful argument.
Indeed, Troy is an epic film, and would continue to entertain and educate for generations to come. It is
a great film because of the presentation and the economic use of words. Each phrase seems to be in a
perfect place. The film is an adaptation of Homer s Iliad, a great story of

The Themes Of Insomnia
The setting of the film is one of the many central characteristics in filming, as it creates, provides and
heavily influences the theme, mood and sense of the movie. The Scandinavian region comprises the
kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden which offers a scenery such as deep dark forest, silent
landscapes, freezing and challenging waters, long and chilly winters and midnight sun. These create a
perfect setting for the three Scandinavian films: Insomnia (1997), Let the Right One In (2008), and

It tells a story of a bullied twelve year old boy, Oskar, who met and developed a deep friendship with
the vampire, Eli. Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm in Sweden is a place that has winter landscapes,
deep forest, icy lakeshore wherein people experienced long and cold winter nights. This sets a
benchmark in a Scandinavian crime fiction where it creates an atmosphere where dangerous things
and murder can happen. The gloomy, the grey and the cold nights greatly impact the mood, theme, and
sense of the film, as the wintry setting creates a creepy atmosphere. Just like in a scene where Hakan
threw the dead body of Jocke in an ice cold lake, when Hakan kills a passerby in a forest and when Eli
tried to murder Jocke and Virginia under the dark bridge. Moreover, this kind of scenery explores the
isolation and exclusion from the social group of the two main characters, Oskar and Eli. Oskar not

he experienced at school and Eli who is isolated from human society, not knowing yet that she is a

Everyone Wins
Have you ever performed the worst that you could, but still got rewarded for it? Me either. In society

How will that affect our society when these participation winners get to the real life, and realize they
don t win no matter how hard or not how hard they work? It has become a huge argument when
coming to this topic all around America, especially in school activities with ages from 3 18. If

When rewarded with something that a child doesn t deserve, they often feel as though they are
superior to all of the others that did not receive what they had, even if they deserved it more than the
child that did receive it. Participation awards give children a surreal kind of confidence that they are
the best and get whatever they want in life because they have never had the harsh moments of not
being the best, because they never get told that they aren t the best, even when that is the case. We will
end up giving children the perception that they do not deserve of themselves if we let them win when
in reality they do not. In the article above, Turner again states, In spite of that, at the end she got a
giant trophy and would have been devastated had she not . What he means by this statement is that a
kid that clearly did not try at all in the sport that she was in expected an award because she knew she
was going to get on either way. That is the type of perception that we need to avoid in order to have a
successful and stable future with the current generations. I do on the other hand think that winning all
of the time could be a confidence booster to young children, because they do not yet have confidence
nor know how to deal with losing. I do not think that a child needs a confidence boost at the age 17, in

Liquidity Risk, Distinctions Between Asset Liquidity And...
Excusive summary
This report is designed to investigate liquidity risk, distinctions between asset liquidity and liability
liquidity management, as well as the main features of an effective liquidity management. In order to
gain insight of liquidity, there is a graph based on the liquidity ratio to analyze the liquidity risk of
four major banks in Australia and the advantages and disadvantages of the liquidity ratio.
Furthermore, it outlines how Basel III effects the banking liquidity management.
Introduction
In recent years, liquidity risk has become the public problem to the commercial banks. Bank for
International Settlement (2008) indicates that the most of bank failures happened with the reason that
the liquidity can not satisfy the demand, therefore, the liquidity risk is the most basic aspect of risk
management. Moreover, the production and implementation of Basel III is able to address the liquidity
risk effectively by applying two ratios which are LCR and NSFR.
1.0 Liquidity risk and liquidity management
1.1 define liquidity risk
Liquidity risk refers to the bank s ability to meet maturing obligations as deposits come due and quick
processing the assets into cash with minimum loss or being able to get enough funds when necessary
and processing profitable securities trading by using available funds (Gup, 2007, p19). The reasons for
liquidity risk occurs can be concluded in two aspects, which are asset side and liability side. On the
asset side, the loan commitments

Impaired serotonin function has clearly demonstrated to be linked to clinical depression, because low
levels of serotonin may negatively affect mechanisms involved in maintaining recovery from
depression. However, there is evidence the serotonin pathways may not directly influence mood but
may be important mechanisms in depression due to an indirect consequence of shifts in autonomic
emotional responses, i.e., the impaired function may simply cause emotional responses to become
unstable contributing to depression. Therefore, Prozac, which acts as an inhibitor of the mechanism
that reduces serotonin, can help to reduce this emotional imbalance. However, serotonin alone is often
not sufficient in treating depression, as there are many mechanisms involved that are associated with
depression.

When thought of how Holden Caulfield came to be, pieces fall into place. John Green explains it
smoothly, stating he [does not] think it is that interesting to use a novel to analyze its author; however,

and [they have] seen concentration camps and [they have] lost innocence in a way that most [people]

Salinger saw more combat in World War Two than almost any other American...And yet Salinger
returned home and wrote not about war, but about Holden Caulfield bumming around New York City.
(Green). It is odd that only about one or two of Salinger s short stories mentioned war at all. It
becomes clear, however, when questioning how Holden Caulfield came to be in the first place. He was
created by a loss of innocence that Salinger suffered in the war. He does not wish for anyone else to
lose that innocence as well. This is just how Holden Caulfield feels. He is reaching that point of
adulthood, and he is scared. He wishes for time to stop and he wants to be a protector of innocence, as
he believes it is a primary virtue to life. When bringing up the theme of innocence, Holden Caulfield
represents how Salinger felt about the war one hundred percent. Salinger did not write about war after

Comparison Of The Project Who s To Blame In Romeo And Juliet
DBQ Project Who s to Blame Blame is a word used to describe those who have some type of fault in a
situation. Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. When your love is strong
enough it can also be dangerous, Romeo and Juliet caused the death of six people in a course of three

the increasingly common factions during one of the most pivotal times in American history. The
largest associated problem with the pre constitutional government was its lack of authority. The
Continental Congress had no authority to compel, only recommend. Moreover, the states had
increasingly become noncompliant with congressional requests over time. Shays Rebellion (1786 87)
truly highlighted this lack of judicial enforcement. Thenceforth, the state leaders genuinely understood
their vulnerability and need for an able bodied central government. The Constitutional Convention
was quickly called to order and the resulting Constitution proposed a cardinal authority to govern
American citizens. However, as stated above, the Constitution was met with copious resistance
especially from a group of diverse, but like minded Americans deemed as the anti federalists. Many
anti federalists feared that a consolidated nation would abolish state republics and infringe upon their

Cadillac, the second will win himself a set of steak knives, and the others will be out of job (Glengarry
Glen Ross, n.d.). In response to the given prizes, four agents react in different ways.

The good leads are locked in the office manager s room and they will not be distributed until the end
of the contest. (Glengarry Glen Ross, n.d.). After he realizes that no matter how hard he work, his
sales performance will barely improve, he becomes desperate. At that point, the cost of effort for him
is too high which makes the prize unachievable, and thus provides no incentive for him to exert effort
anymore. With those old leads, luck becomes relatively more important to the final success and effort
relatively less important. In such case, workers will try less hard to win because effort has a smaller
effect on whether or not they win (Lazear amp; Oyer, 2009, p. 10). This is why he soon gives up
working on the old leads but to flatter, threaten, and bribe the office manager to get good leads which
can reduce the cost of his effort and diminish the importance of luck. However, the result is quite
unexpected His attempt to get good leads does not work out so he finally helps Dave to steal and sell
the good leads to another company. This result may not be explained by tournament theory but can be
explained by economic theories Homo economicus all want to maximize their own profit or utility at
the lowest cost (Homo economicus, n.d.). Stealing and selling the leads may be a risky move but the
profit it brings to Shelly exceeds the risk plus the profit he may gain from working on the old leads,
and that

Analysis Of I Carry My Heart
A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin the man
would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some would question
why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one
in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who
brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of people in the world today,
it is so well known that it could be considered a universal theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very
similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that
the unity of love is dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this
happen through using metaphors, personification, and repetition.
Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E.
Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i carry it
in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always
be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost
immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor
he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be nothing
without them. The final

Basque Society, Language and Culture
There are many groups of people throughout the world, who have either managed to keep their system
of values and traditions relevant or have been forced to conform to the modern ways of the region they
inhabit. The Basque people are a group of indigenous that claim the foothills of the Pyrenees
Mountains around the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain and southern France for thousands of years.
Indigenous people are originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native. By analyzing and
interpreting their language, communication, religion, transition to modernity, differences between
french and spanish borders, and their history we will be able to better understand them. Throughout
the years, advances in international thinking and action has been significant on indigenous rights and
issues including the adoption to the UN declaration on rights of indigenous people in 2007.
There are several Basque provinces along the french and spanish border. Northern provinces include
Labourd, Basse Navarre, and Soule are in france, while the southern provinces are Navarra, Alava,
Vizcaya, and Guipuzcoa which lie in spain (Ott 5). During the later half of the nineteenth century the
Basque population was well over 1,000 people but currently consists of 376 people. Most people of
this indigenous group like their forefathers are pastoralist and cultivate small farmlands scattered
across the valley. . Although much of this tribes history is unverified it is said that they are

The Violence of Japanese-American Internment Camps
The Violence of Japanese American Internment Camps
Setting
During the late 1930s and early 1940s the world was in disarray, the Germans attacked the Polish
igniting World War II. The Japanese General of the Imperial Army allied with the Axis, and was
directly responsible for the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. This completely altered
American citizens outlook on Japanese Americans and led to President Franklin D. Roosevelt s retort
of signing the Executive Order 9066.CITATION Wor12 l 1036 (World War Two Japanese Internment
Camps in the USA) This order placed all citizens of the United States of Japanese descent into

It would be considered Man vs. Society or more precisely, Society vs. Society. This form of external
conflict had harsh effects on both parties. The non Japanese Americans were mistreated; over 120,000
of them were rounded up and placed into one of ten internment camps, or as the government liked to
call them due to its more pleasant sounding name, relocation centers . The conditions in these camps
were subpar. They were overcrowded and had poor living conditions. It was an unprivileged life living
in these camps; internees shared large barracks with many other internees, similar to what you would
see in an army boot camp. (Siasoco and Ross) While the America government considered it necessary,
using the excuse that it was for their own protection, the Japanese Americans were not allowed to
leave these camps, showing that it was much more than protection . The conflicting side, were the non
Japanese Americans. Anti Japanese propaganda became abundant and instilled fear and paranoia into
their hearts. Take, for example, Figure 1, propaganda similar to this one terrified non Japanese
Americans, putting pressure on the relationship between races. Non Japanese Americans became
paranoid, believing that the enemy was living among them. This resulted in violence such as hate
crimes, discrimination and segregation.

Seven! shouted the teacher. Or did he shout Four ? I shrank down in my seat. Math class was an
absolute nightmare. The teacher scared me so much that my hands got sweaty, and my fingers slipped
on the abacus1 beads. I was in the second grade when I discovered that I suffered from abacus anxiety.
The trouble was that I was going to a school where the teacher spoke a different dialect. I grew up
with Mandarin, the dialect spoken by the majority of the Chinese. When the eastern part of China was
occupied by the Japanese, our family moved inland, to a region where I could barely understand the
local dialect. Writing was pretty much the same in any dialect, so in language and history classes I
didn t have trouble with what was on the blackboard. My problems started in the math class, where we
had to learn the abacus. Before the days of the calculator, the abacus was the main tool for adding and
multiplying. It still is, in many parts of China (as well as in countries like Japan and Russia). The
abacus teacher would shout out the numbers he wanted us to add or multiply. My ears didn t always
understand what he said, so seven, for

Sitting Bull Research Paper
Behold, my friends , the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we
shall soon see the result of their love! December 15, 1890 Sitting Bull was shot and killed while being
arrested by U.S and Indian agent. The Sitting Bull was one of the best known Indian chiefs because of
his determination, leadership skills, and spiritual aspects.
Sitting Bull s determination was something amazing. He always made sure that everyone believed
they could do it and was determined not to live on a reservation. His determination and leadership of
the Lakotas extended beyond policy and into spiritual realm as well. He never gave up or signed the
treaty for the Indians to live on the reservation. When the tribes went to battle ... Show more content

had a vision of sorts, he saw soldiers on horseback falling into their camp upside down. A voice told
Sitting Bull I give these to you because they have no ears. the Lakotas translated this to mean that they
were soon to have a great victory against the bluecoats. Many have said that this was similar to the
battle that happens a few short weeks later at the Battle of the Bighorn. Sitting Bull was supposedly
killed over his involvement of the Ghost Dance movement. Beginning in 1889, many reservation
tribes were on the Ghost Dance movement. This would bury the white man s world a layer of soil and
allow the Indians to return to their old ways. Sitting Bull was at the forefront of preservation the
Lakotas culture. It wasn t long before authorities became convinced that he might use the Ghost Dance
movement to form a resistance. On the morning of December 15, 1890, reservation agent James
McLaughlin dispatched a party of Lakotas policemen to arrest Sitting Bull and bring him in for
questioning. The men successfully dragged him from his cabin, the commotion brought his followers
to gather at the scene. One Ghost Dancer fired a shot at the police, setting of a gun battle. Dozens were
killed in the confusion.

Church Camp Counseling
Church Camp Counseling
For community service I worked at Lake Lucerne Camp Wisconsin United Methodist Church for two
weeks, one week of training and one week of assistant counseling. The first week of training consisted
of all the adult councilors and everyone (high schoolers) who signed up for the Leaders In Training
(LIT) Program. The LIT group was the only group there besides the church group Rizing Sun, a group
of children from kindergarten to twelfth grade who all have one or more parents in incarceration. The
second week I went back to assistant council was for a horse camp for middle schoolers. Doing

Values Of Christianity And Paganism In The Wanderer
Most scholars think The Wanderer first appeared as a piece of oral poetry during the 5th or 6th
century, a time when the Germanic Pagan culture of Anglo Saxon England was undergoing a
conversion to Christianity. It contains traces of both traditional Germanic warrior culture and of a
Christian value system. The speaker for much of the poem is a warrior who has had to go into exile
after the slaughter of his lord and relatives in battle. Now, he contemplates what the experience of the
exile teaches him about life.
For most of the poem, the speaker expresses traditional Germanic beliefs about how a wise man
should act, the inevitability of death, and mankind s inability to change his fate. The poem is
bookended, though, by the Christian idea of the possibility of God s favor and grace, which the
speaker holds up as the only possible refuge from all the misery he witnesses. The relationship
between fate in Old English, wyrd and God s grace is not clear in the poem; the presence of both
might be evidence of The Wanderer s position at the meeting point of Christianity and Paganism.
The Wanderer is both a lament for all the things the speaker and people more generally have lost, and
also a reflection on what wise men learn from their life experiences. With this dynamic duo, The
Wanderer combines parts of two traditional genres of Old English poetry: the elegy, or lament, and the
wisdom poem. These two genres aren t unrelated, since Anglo Saxon poets believed that

U.S. Foreign Policy Toward Taiwan Essay
Introduction The American foreign policy affects everyone in some type of way, shape or form. After
all, all actions and decisions made by our nation have both positive and negative consequences on its
citizens. A controversial issue or nation so to speak that the United States has been dealing with and is
currently dealing with today is Taiwan. Taiwan, also known as the Republic of China, faces several
elements implicated by the U.S. foreign policy. The first element of American foreign policy is that
the United States only recognizes one China. Whether it s the China to the left of the Strait or the
Taiwan to the right, it is up to both sides. The second element of American foreign policy is that

The Shanghai Communiqué
The Shanghai Communiqué was signed on the 27th of February in 1972 between our country and the
Chinese. The communiqué was drafted by Henry Kissinger the National Security Adviser at the time
and Chou En lai the Chinese Prime Minister. Ultimately the communiqué pledged China and the
United States to work towards normalizing their relations, expanding people to people contacts and
trade opportunities. This is where Taiwan came into play. Neither side wanted to broach the subject of
Taiwan, but this tiny island was a massive block throughout the negotiations. However, neither China
nor the United States was going to let China hinder the start of their developing new relationship.
The Normalization Communiqué The Normalization Communiqué was announced by President
Jimmy Carter and went into effect on January 1, 1979. Prior to this announcement, Western nations
had been selling military equipment to Beijing permitted by President Jimmy Carter. However,
President Carter vetoed a proposal to see 50 F 4 fighter bombers to Taiwan. Taiwan took this as a slap
to the face and interpreted this action as a

National Health System ( Nhs ) Essay
National Health System (NHS) England (1800words) The National Health System began in 1948 with
the aim to provide free health care for the English thus removing health access inequities. This essay
considers two strengths of the NHS, being free health and locally responsive health care and two
weaknesses being the financial burden and unprecedented pressure on health care resources. One of
the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all
medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and
optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system
is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number
two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). Free healthcare supports Ham s (2010) claim that
being free at point of entry is a characteristic of a high performing health care system. The benefits of
free healthcare were that everyone was able to get the same medical treatment. The delivery of health
care through Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG s) is another strength. CCG s were created in
2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in
2013(NHS England, 2013). Their strength lies in their authority and purpose to provide health care
that is responsive to a geographical area and set patient number. They are clinically led, often by local

training I began to realize that the physical training was meant to develop the qualities self

  • 2. Essay On Tommy And Mr. Atkins A British soldier is expected to stand firm, with a non wavering heart as the enemy approaches. They are to protect the Queen and her beliefs at all costs. A gentleman and a fighter, that is a soldier of the Queen s army. They expect to return home to the people of the United Kingdom s praise and respect after their conquests, however they were met with mistreatment and sometimes scorn during the year of 1892. On the surface, Tommy is a representation of the juxtaposition of how war is seen by those that are being protected, but this creative piece is an example of what it is like when the people of a country respect the toils of war but not the soldier. Kipling accomplishes this by changing what could be good English to bad English so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Civil War Turning Point Analysis Before the Civil War, tensions between the North and South were rising. The North put protective tariffs on the South for their own benefit and Lincoln planned on abolishing slavery in the expanding territories. Those actions made the South angry and viewed them as a threat to their lifestyle. As a result, this led to the Civil War. As the war went on, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. This was a colossal turning point as this led to the end of the Civil War, making the North victorious. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the North need a great leader the most, they had Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was an effective leader during the war. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver. Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than to originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he should leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army, the leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many battles in 1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change leadership styles. He became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders and used his power as Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct instructions to his generals. Lincoln placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied his suggestions, into strict military relation to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker orders as he would have to obey them. In other words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this leadership style to a more dominant one, the Union army won important victories, notably at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. There are two different types of competition that we will be observing during this experiment. The first type would be intraspecific, which means competition between same species (1976). This allows Google to create a large volume of new ideas and innovations, any engineer in Google could freely work across teams to create a new product or feature without transferring to the specific department. An evidence shows that more than 50 new products resulted from Google engineers‟ 20% time investments accounting for half of all new products and features(including Gmail, AdSense, and Google News)developed during that period (Lyer Davenport 2008 pp.64). The reason Google invested substantively to create such an innovation ecosystem is due to the highly competitive market and Google‟s ambitious mission. As a young internet based company, Google‟s leaders realized that without enough innovation, it is extremely hard to compete with companies such as Microsoft and IBM, after Google‟s Online search engine became its solid and profitable infrastructure, Google is not satisfied of what this backbone has brought to itself anymore. Thus, leaders of Google pay much attention to their ultimate mission, organizing the world s information and making it universally accessible and useful. It is a such imperial goal that could take Google over hundred years of time to achieve it, but the leaders of Google are strategically patient, as CEO Eric Schmidt said at 2007 Bear Stearns conference: Ubiquity first, ... • 10. The Weary Blues Lindsey Blasé Brown The Music of Sadness The Weary Blues, by Langston Hughes, tells a story of an unnamed narrator recalling an evening of listening to a man sing the blues one night in Harlem. Hughes uses a somber tone, depressed voice, syntax and imagery as language styles to convey a great deal of suffering that was occurring in Harlem during the mid 1900 s. In The Weary Blues Hughes uses imagery to communicate to the reader what the narrator is experiencing while listening to blues. The reader can feel the slow and steady beat of the music: He did a lazy sway.../ He did a lazy sway... (4 5). The flow of the two lines mimics the beat of the music. The reader can hear the pain in the voice of the musician: In a deep voice with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Down on Lenox Avenue the other night ... O Blues! ... Sweet Blues! (3 4,11,14) When the narrator says this, it tells the reader that he has a strong attachment to this memory and may be empathizing with what the musician is singing. The rest of the poem is simply an account of the events that take place that evening. Due to the lack of emotion from the narrator, the reader must look towards the second character, the musician, for emotion that is behind the depressed voice. While the musician s voice is only seen in the song lyrics, his voice plays the largest role communicating emotions to the reader: I ain t happy no mo /And I wish that I had died (29 30). From this lyric the reader understands that the musician is sad and appears to be depressed. At the end of the poem the narrator describes what he believes the musician does: And far into the night he crooned that tune. The stars went out and so did the moon. The singer stopped playing and went to bed While the weary blues echoed through his head. (31 34) Due to the fact that the narrator could not actually know what the piano player is thinking, the reader can say that the narrator is actually describing his own actions after hearing the musician sing. Near the beginning of the story, the narrator talks about their neighbor Miss Leedie, who was in love with President Wilson and wrote him a letter every day (416). While talking about Miss Leedie, the author seamlessly tells the setting of the story. President Wilson served in America from 1913 to 1921 and it is mentioned that he was the president during this short story. Later in the story, the narrator mentions the barn loft was covered with a film of Paris green (418). Paris green was used by Americans around the 1900s. The tone of the story starts out nostalgic, telling events that happened when the narrator was younger, but then later the tone turns into a more regretful and guilty voice, for pushing the younger brother past his limit. You can tell this by looking at the beginning, and seeing how the narrator was so happy when his brother was born. The narrator then gets greedy and selfish, making the younger brother feel bad about himself. Aw, come on, Doodle, I urged. You can do it. Do you want to be different from everybody else when you start school? Does it make any difference? It certainly does, I said (422). The determination to have a normal brother grows, and you can see this when the narration is more about the wants of the narrator instead of how happy he is to have a brother. In The Meaning of a Word and Being a Chink , Gloria Naylor and Christine Leong examine words of hatred that are meant to scorn, hurt and disgrace people. But these same words could also be used without harmful intentions and in a fashion of endearment amongst the people those words were created for. They each had a different word to discriminate their different culture and ethnicity. These writers discuss the words nigger and chink , which are words in our language mostly ignorant people use. Leong writes in her essay, Language is the tool used to define us and differentiate us from the next person. Sometimes these things are innocuous, depending on the particular word and the context in which it is used. Often they serve to ridicule and humiliate. Both of these writers explain how nigger and chink are most commonly used in an offensive manner. But the people (chinks and niggers) that those words were meant to hurt, are also used by the niggers and chinks in their daily conversations. It could be applied to a man who had distinguished himself in some situation that brought their approval for his strength, intelligence, or drive (Naylor,1986,p.470). We are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he knows. Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints. The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment. He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his crew. Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. The imbalance is not in agriculture, although many food products both raw and processed enter the U.S. at prices below those for comparable U.S. grown foodstuffs. To a large degree the imbalance is in manufactured goods. One reason is that many nations have lower costs of production based upon a lower standard of living, cheap labor, inexpensive raw materials, protective government policy, etc. Multinationals who have moved their plants to foreign locations enjoy the best of both worlds inexpensive manufacturing costs and unlimited access to the world s biggest consumer market, the USA. The foreign entity received a like amount of American goods or services. The trade books are balanced. All monies earned interest every step of the way. The U.S. didn t allow inexpensive foreign goods to displace American goods on price alone. It made the foreign goods compete on a quality basis with American goods. American consumers will make the choice of which is better at a comparable price. If the foreign goods are really superior to the American goods, then the foreign manufacturer will have earned an increased share of the world market and the U.S. manufacturer or ag producer will have to get more competitive or go out of business. The reverse is also true so the free market and the law of supply and demand still gets a chance to work, but it works on the basis of quality and value, not upon inherent differences in world standards of living. It is true that visual art is equally compelling, but films appear as persuasive and capture the viewer s emotions and interests. This effectiveness is on account of a movie s magic, which is simply the cinematography techniques that filmmakers apply. These techniques are esoteric, and so hidden from the eyes of an ordinary viewer. Only trained eyes can detect the filmmakers approaches and judge whether or not they are relevant. When evaluating a film, one resort to two objects. As it were, the first is to assess the film s magic, which refers to the ability of a film to capture and demand a viewer s attention. Design, costumes, and lighting often appeal to this quarter. The second object is the film s content. In other words, the story matters more than the representation. Through the story, the filmmakers can postulate an argument, which the viewers can subtly engage (Winkler 13). In many cases, the audience can forget the set designs and the costumes, but not the words and actions of the characters. Troy is one of the movies with a powerful argument. [They have] seen combat and [they have] seen concentration camps and [they have] lost innocence in a way that most [people] thankfully never will. Salinger had a very traumatic experience in the war, and it can proven that J.D. Salinger saw more combat in World War Two than almost any other American...And yet Salinger returned home and wrote not about war, but about Holden Caulfield bumming around New York City. (Green). It is odd that only about one or two of Salinger s short stories mentioned war at all. It becomes clear, however, when questioning how Holden Caulfield came to be in the first place. He was created by a loss of innocence that Salinger suffered in the war. He does not wish for anyone else to lose that innocence as well. This is just how Holden Caulfield feels. He is reaching that point of adulthood, and he is scared. He wishes for time to stop and he wants to be a protector of innocence, as he believes it is a primary virtue to life. When bringing up the theme of innocence, Holden Caulfield represents how Salinger felt about the war one hundred percent. Salinger did not write about war after returning from WWII, but he rather wrote about Holden Caulfield, a protector of innocence and a catcher in the rye. This comparison is the best one to help link the bridge between Salinger and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are transverse, longitudinal, and surface waves. The transverse waves are a mechanical wave which means that the wave travels like an S wave sideways. Longitudinal waves travel parallel to the direction the wave travels. When the longitudinal wave travels it compresses through the particles in the medium that it passes through. Longitudinal waves are like contractions because they can compress together really high, and or low which could make the pain hurt more, or hurt very little. • 38. Comparison Of The Project Who s To Blame In Romeo And Juliet DBQ Project Who s to Blame Blame is a word used to describe those who have some type of fault in a situation. Love can cause great emotions, yet it can also cause tragedies. When your love is strong enough it can also be dangerous, Romeo and Juliet caused the death of six people in a course of three days just so they can be together. In Romeo and Juliet there are many to blame for the cause of each death, but the most responsible for this situation are those who follow: Juliet, Nurse, and Friar Lawrence. Juliet could have stopped the death of six people if she only told the truth. The Nurse, also one to blame, could have spoke out and helped out in the situation. At last, Friar Lawrence, he could have made the choice not to marry Romeo and Juliet, yet all he wanted was for the Capulets and Montagues to be in peace. After the Constitutional Convention, the Constitution still required the ratification of the states. In order to convince the people of New York to ratify the Constitution, Madison, joined by like minded John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton, set out author a series of eighty five essays entitled The Federalist. James Madison s The Federalist No. 10 took into account recent events and therefore addressed the increasingly common factions during one of the most pivotal times in American history. The largest associated problem with the pre constitutional government was its lack of authority. The Continental Congress had no authority to compel, only recommend. Moreover, the states had increasingly become noncompliant with congressional requests over time. Shays Rebellion (1786 87) truly highlighted this lack of judicial enforcement. Thenceforth, the state leaders genuinely understood their vulnerability and need for an able bodied central government. The Constitutional Convention was quickly called to order and the resulting Constitution proposed a cardinal authority to govern American citizens. However, as stated above, the Constitution was met with copious resistance especially from a group of diverse, but like minded Americans deemed as the anti federalists. Many anti federalists feared that a consolidated nation would abolish state republics and infringe upon their individual rights. At that point, the cost of effort for him is too high which makes the prize unachievable, and thus provides no incentive for him to exert effort anymore. With those old leads, luck becomes relatively more important to the final success and effort relatively less important. In such case, workers will try less hard to win because effort has a smaller effect on whether or not they win (Lazear amp; Oyer, 2009, p. 10). • 41. Analysis Of I Carry My Heart A young man is currently in the thicket of love with his significant other. At the drop of a pin the man would get her anything she could desire, regardless if it is a need or a want. Some would question why, but it is because it is he who has fallen head over heels for her. For she is the love his life, his one in a million, the irreplaceable. She is the one who keeps his heart in a steady rhythmic beat, who brightens his day like the early morning sun. This is relatable for millions of people in the world today, it is so well known that it could be considered a universal theme. E. E. Cummings explains a very similar meaning in the poem [i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)] . The theme of the poem is that the unity of love is dangerously powerful when it is between two in love. Cummings makes this happen through using metaphors, personification, and repetition. Cummings uses metaphors throughout the poem to show how much care he has for her. E. E. Cummings starts the first line of his poem with a metaphor saying i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart) . He uses this metaphor to show that even if he and his lover are far apart, she will always be on his mind, in his heart, and close to him. E. E. Cummings uses another metaphor almost immediately after in line 6 saying, for beautiful you are my world,my true . In the use of this metaphor he is emphasizing that she is that someone you hope to never lose, because you would be nothing without them. The final ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Values Of Christianity And Paganism In The Wanderer Most scholars think The Wanderer first appeared as a piece of oral poetry during the 5th or 6th century, a time when the Germanic Pagan culture of Anglo Saxon England was undergoing a conversion to Christianity. It contains traces of both traditional Germanic warrior culture and of a Christian value system. The speaker for much of the poem is a warrior who has had to go into exile after the slaughter of his lord and relatives in battle. Now, he contemplates what the experience of the exile teaches him about life. For most of the poem, the speaker expresses traditional Germanic beliefs about how a wise man should act, the inevitability of death, and mankind s inability to change his fate. The poem is bookended, though, by the Christian idea of the possibility of God s favor and grace, which the speaker holds up as the only possible refuge from all the misery he witnesses. The relationship between fate in Old English, wyrd and God s grace is not clear in the poem; the presence of both might be evidence of The Wanderer s position at the meeting point of Christianity and Paganism. The Wanderer is both a lament for all the things the speaker and people more generally have lost, and also a reflection on what wise men learn from their life experiences. With this dynamic duo, The Wanderer combines parts of two traditional genres of Old English poetry: the elegy, or lament, and the wisdom poem. One of the strengths of the NHS England is residents receive free fully funded medical care that includes all medical treatment, screenings including antenatal, dental, prescriptions, specialist referrals and optometrists (NHS England, 2016). Furthermore, while being free at point of access, the NHS system is an efficient, effective, care, safe, coordinated and patient centred system that was ranked number two worldwide on equity (NHS England, 2016). CCG s were created in 2012 following the passing of the Health and Social Care Act, to replace primary care trusts in 2013(NHS England, 2013).
