The case report discusses an arbitrage opportunity in 2010 involving negative 30-year swap spreads. It describes a bond/swap trade where an institution would enter into a 30-year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating, long a 30-year government bond, and take short positions in 3-month T-bills. While the trade seems feasible, there are risks around LIBOR and bond price volatility that make it uncertain over the long run. The estimated internal rate of return is around 45% over 30 years if no transaction costs. Negative swap spreads may occur when fixed income investors demand the safety of government bonds.

The poem "The Skeleton Council" by Katherine Leyton uses symbolism and imagery to express the oppressive nature of family secrets. The skeletons symbolize secrets that plague the narrator. In the first half of the poem, dense language creates an oppressive atmosphere, while the second half simplifies with a more direct meaning, showing how secrets distort the narrator's feelings. The changing style reinforces the distorting effects of secrets on the narrator.

Theodore Roosevelt's 1909 speech at Mt. Holyoke addressed the changing balance of global power and the need for the US to adjust its foreign policy in response to Japan's growing strength. Roosevelt acknowledged Japan's modernization and victories over China and Russia, which elevated it to the status of a major world power. He also discussed issues related to Japanese immigration into the US and the tensions it caused. Roosevelt believed the US needed to recognize Japan as an economic and naval peer, manage immigration issues diplomatically to avoid conflict, and consider Japan's position when making foreign policy decisions impacting East Asia.

The document discusses two themes in education: 1) a "back to basics" approach that focuses on cultural restoration and subject-based curriculum, and 2) curriculum organization that is either controlled or topic-based. It analyzes these themes by comparing their impacts on teacher morale, the views of educational theorists like Montessori and Steiner, and social/political influences. While most UK primary schools use topic-based organization, some advocate for separate subject-based curriculum, believing topics cannot solely constitute the curriculum.

Restorative justice practices focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment. They aim to bring
people together to resolve conflicts in a way that satisfies victims, holds offenders accountable, and
reintegrates them into the community. Increasing restorative justice could help reduce recidivism
rates by addressing the underlying issues that lead to criminal behavior. It also provides an
alternative to the traditional punitive justice system and may be more effective at achieving longterm reconciliation between victims and offenders.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

2. The 1937 Constitution
Introduction
I propose to discuss in this paper the evolution of the 1922 Constitution followed by 1937
Constitution. I will briefly outline the political structure that was present at the time of the enactment
of both constitutions. This essay will then outline the main areas of difference between the 1922 and
1937 Constitutions and highlight the major influence that Eamon De Valera had on the creation of
Bunreacht Na hEireann. I believe the main areas of difference between the 1922 and 1937
Constitution were the religious beliefs, the powers of State and the fundamental rights.
Political background
On Easter Monday, 24th April 1916 the Easter Rising broke out. This was a Rebellion of the Irish
Nationalist against the rule of Great Britain. This rebellion marked the beginning of Ireland gaining
their Independence. Another attempt to gaining Independence of Ireland took place in 1919 when the
IRA fought the British Army in the war of independence which lasted over 2 and a half years and ...

A difference in both the constitutions is the replacement of the Governor General by The President of
Ireland. This shows the elimination of British influence in Irish politics. Another major change was
that the Prime Minister is now known as the Taoiseach and that the government of Ireland takes on the
role formerly known as the executive council of the Irish Free State. From a fundamental right
prospective the 1937 Constitution is deemed to be superior to any other source of law and regards to
making laws there is very little difference between both the 1937 and 1922

3. The Emotional vs. Intellectual Growth of Children in Hard...
In Hard Times, Charles Dickens explores the importance of the developments of both intellect and
emotions throughout a child s upbringing. However, to an extent, Dickens emphasizes on the greater
importance of emotional growth compared to intellectual growth; such as the much happier and more
compassionate human being Sissy is compared to Louisa and Tom, whom have had all fancy rooted
out of their childhood. Furthermore, although Bitzer may not be unhappy in any way, he still lacks
compassion and an understanding of emotions as a result of his education under Gradgrind s fact only
system. As such, the administrator of this system, Gradgrind, also lacks the ability to recognise
emotion, and hence was unable to acknowledge his children s ... Show more content on

Even though she is aware of the reasons behind the way that she is, such is the impact that Gradgrind s
education on her that she has no means of comforting herself or repairing the damages that she has
endured. Consequently, it has demonstrated the degree to which the failure of development of her
emotions has affected Louisa and caused her young life to be filled with misery. Nevertheless, if
Louisa hadn t possessed her desire of emotions, the detrimental effects, that she is aware of, would be
lessened a great deal.
Bitzer undergoes the same figurative and factual education as Louisa and Tom, hence he too lacks the
ability to identify with emotions. On the contrary, Bitzer did not possess the inner fire that Louisa had,
and as a result did not feel that he had been repressed or miserable. He develops into a cold and
heartless human being and has no compassion whatsoever for anyone or anything. Bitzer s heart is
only accessible to reason and he feels no need to thank his educator, Gradgrind, when is asked of him
during Tom s escape. Furthermore, Bitzer notes that his schooling was paid for and that when he
graduated, the bargain ended . This emphasizes how in Bitzer s mind, everything is determined upon
figures and reason, and has no room for any sort of compassion. It is through Bitzer that Dickens
demonstrates how even though on may not feel as though they are suffering from the lack of
emotional growth, it is plain to

The History of the U.S. and Cuba
The United States is known for being one of the greatest and strongest countries in the world looking
at past events and in this day and age. What might strike some people as shocking is that the U.S.
would not be as strong without close ties with other countries or allies. Examples would be France,
England, and Canada, plus many more. What people don t talk about is the U.S. s rivals or countries
that the U.S. has had trouble with in the past leading up to now. One of the most renowned countries is
only ninety miles away from the southern tip of Florida and that is Cuba. Cuba is known for the
fantastic beaches, some of the most well known baseball players around, and, of course, Cuban cigars
and rum. But, the past with Cuba is not as bright as the U.S. wants it to be because of historical events
such as the embargo, the Bay of Pigs, and the Cuban missile crisis during World War II that caused the
two countries to separate as allies and close tied nations. Over the past year the U.S. and Cuba have
been trying to put the past behind them and have diplomatic and cultural relations once again. The last
president to visit the nation of Cuba was President Calvin Coolidge in 1928. Since then there has
many problems between the two nations. Fourteen months ago President Barrack Obama announced

6. Taking a Look at Myasthenia Gravis
People go to doctors offices with a lot of different conditions everyday. A lot of those conditions
happen to share the same symptoms which could make it hard to determine what is truly wrong with a
patient without a diagnosis. A diagnosis is a methodical evaluation of symptoms and complaints
through interview, observation, testing instruments and/or procedures taken to determine if an illness
is present (1). It is important that a person be diagnosed thoroughly and properly so that they can
receive the right treatment (if available) to make the patient better. A patient with symptoms like Susan
s would need a full diagnosis to determine exactly what he/she has, which is what her doctor did. Her
doctor s diagnosis made it easy for us to determine whether her illness is myasthenia gravis or
myotonic muscular dystrophy. Here s how.
We learned through research that myasthenia gravis and myotonic muscular dystrophy are two
common forms of muscular disorders. Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder that usually
occurs in the arms, head and chest (2). Its symptoms include limb weakness, drooping eyelids,
impaired vision, difficulty chewing and swallowing, slurred speech, difficulty breathing and
abnormality of the thymus gland (3). Myotonic muscular dystrophy is one of many forms of muscular
dystrophy that is characterized by muscle wasting and myotonia or the inability to relax muscles (4).
Its symptoms include, but are not limited to drooping eyelids, cataracts,

7. Symbols In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
Friedrich Nietzsche once said, Words are but symbols for the relations of things to one another and to
us. According to dictionary.com, a symbol is something used for or regarded as representing
something else. There are many important symbols represented in The Lord of the Flies by William
Golding. These include the beast, the conch, and the signal fire. The beast, the conch, and the signal
fire are important symbols because they teach a lot to the boys and make them who they are on the
island. Who is the beast?; what is the conch?; and why is it important to keep the fire? There is a beast
in The Lord of the Flies. The beast is a figure of speech. It represents the evil in all of us. The beast
also stands for the devil in The Bible. Simon realizes this after Jacks becomes obsessed with hunting
and after he leaves to make his own tribe. All of the boys on the island start to turn on each other; two
of the boys are killed. Jack keeps referencing to a beast on the island every time he hunts or kills a pig.
There isnt a real, physical beast. The actual beast is Jack himself. He shows no mercy to what he

The signal fire stands for survival. Ralph uses the fire as a smoke signal so that when a ship passes by,

using Piggy s glasses in the sun. They boys could only find that one way to start a fire so Ralph s main

8. Alexandria In Justine
The representation of Alexandria in Lawrence Durrell s Justine In his novel, Justine, Lawrence Durrell
gives his readers a new version of Alexandria, claiming that this is the real city . The novel would
arouse many questions to an Alexandrian reader s mind; does Durrell factually represent the
Cosmopolitan city of the time? Do his characters reflect the kind of life which the Alexandrian
inhabitants had back then? Or is he giving, throughout Justine, a parallel mythical city which he
created out of his imagination? The book clearly reflects Durrell s viewpoint regarding Alexandria; he
exhibits it as an erotic city that enforces a state of total indulgence in sensual pleasures upon its
inhabitants. Moreover, he tackles the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Durrell presents two Alexandrias; the Arabic Alexandria which is always related to negative
descriptions and always looked at with resentment and disgust, and the European Alexandria which
comes along with the clean streets and the civilized characters. Durrell exhibits the Arab Quarters as
an undefined mass; he does not name their streets or their cafes; he gives them no identity. In contrast,
the European streets are named, for instance; Rue Foaad, Rue Sherief and Naby Daniel. The voice of
the Arabs is shut; we do not get to see any Egyptian characters except for Nessim, whom we know
lately in the Alexandria Quartet about his national treason; a person who has no sense of belonging
towards Egypt. Nessim also is so westernized; the fact that Nessim s voice is heard in the novel goes
back to his wealthy state and his high social rank that did enable him to neglect his Egyptian
nationality and have a European lifestyle. Hence, Nessim does not represent the real Egyptian
Alexandrian inhabitant of the time. Durrell s claim that only the city is real is questionable; you cannot
write a novel as a representative of Alexandria and its inhabitants while choosing to foreground only
the western voices and background the Arab ones. So Durrell s colonial ideology is shown in his
writing; his tone is racial and biased against the Egyptians. Moreover, Durrell depicts Muslim Arabs
as racist violent people who persecute

10. Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie Essay
Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie
In horror films, there is always one scene that opens up the perceived realm of normality to that of fear
and confusion. Directors and authors alike use these scenes to show the change in the pace of the film.
In both the movie Psycho (1960) and Carrie (1976), shower scenes are used to mark this epic turning
point with sexuality, blood and voyeurism; the most important ingredients to horror.
The idea of sneaking around and peering into forbidden places gives just about everyone a thrill.
Voyeurism is used strongly in both Psycho and Carrie due to its ability to entice thrill in the viewer. In
Carrie, we start the scene by looking into a girls high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are then given an extreme close up of Norman s eye, staring wide into the room; the view we have
gives us the thrill of actually being there, watching Marion undress. This method of filming, giving the
audience the sight of the forbidden, adds thrill to the important scenes. Thrill only encourages us to
watch the movie more intently, on the edge of our seats.
Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe to
the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. Once in the shower, we are given a point of view shot of
the showerhead, a huge showerhead covering her entire body with clean, warm water, cleansing her of
her sins in an almost baptismal way. We are allowed only collarbone up shots of her in the shower,
only hints to her nakedness. We can only imagine what she looks like, giving the audience the same
thoughts that raced through Norman s mind as he looked in on her through the peephole. Carrie is also
highly sexualized, more so given the fact that more nudity was allowed with the changing times. As

Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C. Her research mainly focuses on the expression of interpersonal relationships in
conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural
differences. In her essay Tannen uses gender to reveal the differences between male and female
conversational styles in classroom discussions. She formulates the theory that males naturally prefer
and dominate contributions to these debate like discussions while females incline to contribute to less
hostile conversations. Tannen presents her argument effectively using simple vocabulary and
appropriate literary devices however, as the essay progresses she ... Show more content on

However, Tannen does not consider it in her research. What makes a male or a female dominate

innumerable personalities that contradict each other and similarly those who do not participate in
debating at all, regardless of sex. It all depends on the personality of a person while Tannen ignoring
this aspect proposes a clichéd approach where males tend to dominate females in discussions and then
provides vague and insufficient supports to justify her

12. The Functions of a Medieval Castle Essay
The building of a castle was a monumental task; it required many laborers and took many years to
complete. When a lord had decided to build a castle, he would hire a Master Builder to design and
build the castle. He would choose a design for the castle. The castle was meant to be the fortress of the
lord so it had to be strong. Castles had many different types of defense to protect the Lord and his
family. The many types of defense that castles had meant that those attacking had to develop ever
more strategic and powerful ways to attack the castle. When the King or Lord had decided to build his
castle, he would hire a Master Builder to design the castle and to hire the laborers for the building of
the castle. Construction of the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also protected by wooden Palisades (walls) and a moat (14 15). The wood would eventually rot
and have to be replaced. The wood could also be burned during attacks (16). Later they began to build
castles using stone. These stone castles took many years to complete (13). In the beginning only the
keeps were changed to stone and kept the same square layout (18). Eventually it was found that the
square corners were a weak spot in the design and changed to a rounded profile (Jarrow 29). Later the
wooden walls were changed to stone. The new curtain walls were much larger. They were often
between fifteen and thirty five feet tall, and six to nine feet thick. Though some were built much larger
(19). Third, the castle was also the home of lords, nobles, and kings. This is why castles had to be built
strong enough to with stand days of constant battering, or months of blockade. The strongest part of
the castle was the keep. The lord and his family lived in the keep that was usually on top of a motte
(Jarrow 15). In the keep is where the lord and his family would eat, sleep, and store supplies and
weapons (Jarrow 15). As castles were built stronger with thick stone walls the keep lost its importance
and was often unused. This allowed the lords and their families to have a much roomier living area
that was still well protected from attack (Jarrow 19). Keeps had everything that was needed. They
usually had storage on the lower levels or in the

While the show doesn t characterize everyone at the same level, it s interesting to see how their lives

1. The #MeToo and Time s Up social movements organize around the issues of sexual violence,
harassment and abuse, with an emphasis on women in the workplace. For decades, incidents like these
have always occurred, yet they were not spoken about. The main reason being, the harassment is
incited by a person of power and authority in the majority of the cases, and them taking advantage of
these qualities. These issues coincide with themes such as democracy, inequality, social justice, and
decent work, as they violate the foundation of human rights that these themes were built upon. In the

In the 7th chapter of the book Drawn to change, it draws attention to the Service, Office, and Retail
Workers Union of Canada, in which it was a militant attempt to revitalizing a feminist movement and
changing the gender makeup of the labour force post WWII. It was able to gather locals of female
workers to dedicate their workplace to the success of this organization, however it faced many
obstacles as they promoted unions, and employers drastically opposed union organizing around this
time. Unfortunately, this organization no longer exists but it is a vital part of the past that consists of
feminism and power to women in the workplace. It was only a stepping stone to where we are on
women s issues today. Similarly, to the #MeToo/Time s Up movements, they advocate for the equality
of women in the workplace, as it is prevalent that females still do not make up of much of the
workplace back in the 1970 s and now. In contrast, this organization is deceased under the wrath of the
government. However, the #MeToo/Time s up movement is only growing, and this time with the
tactics this organization has succeeded in, the government will not have the same power they did over

15. Neur s Resting Membrane Potential
The neuron s resting membrane potential is usually 70 millivolts. This charge comes from the fact that
there are more negatively charged sodium ions outside the cell than there are positive potassium ions
inside the cell. These ions are arranged by the sodium potassium pump: for every 2 potassium ions it
pumps into the cell, it pumps out 3 sodium ions. The membrane is also riddled with ion channels,
large proteins that provide passage when their respective gates open. Most are voltage gated channels,
which open or close at certain membrane potentials. Ligand gated channels that only open when a
specific neurotransmitter or hormone attaches to it. Finally, mechanically gated channels open in
response to physically stretching the membrane. When the gates open, ions diffuse across that
membrane down the electro potential gradient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dendrites pick up the signal and activate the neuron s action potential that shoots an electric
charge down the axon to its terminals and towards neighboring neurons. Neurotransmitters are stored
in vesicles inside the terminal button of the axon; the vesicles are transported to the edge of the button
and the neurotransmitters released into the synaptic gap. In the synapse, neurotransmitters can bind
with a receptor site on the next neuron if the receptor site is the right type and is vacant. This is often

One of a few female soldiers stationed at an American outpost in Iraq, Sergeant Macy runs the unit s
accounting office. She is obsessed with balancing the books to the penny. She discovers an entry for
some weapons that are not accurate. The weapons were ordered and delivered but some are missing.

Macy makes a strong moral choice and decides to investigate. It works. Action films, however, depend
on strong action and a fast pace.
FRIENDLY FIRE would benefit from picking up the pace. Given the overture and the missing
weapons, it s clear what is at stake. The viewer is waiting for the story to start and for her to find the
murderers. However, the script drags out Act I.
It s understood Macy is a bean counter; it s an interesting take on military action hero. The DaVinci
Code and the TV series The Librarians have academic driven heroes, too. They work because the story
isn t weighed down by day to day activities, paperwork and emails. FRIENDLY FIRE would benefit
from less paperwork and more action.
In a 90 page action script, the set up needs to move quickly. Stronger, condensed structure would help
pick up the pace. Consider moving the Act II break up, maybe closer to page 15 or 20. Look for a
break that is visual and shows the viewer what Macy is up against.
Strong Act II breaks need to show a change from the hero s ordinary world to the new world. It s hard

17. The Disaster Of Nuclear Generating Station Essay
Abstract:
In the early morning hours of 28th March 1979, the worst disaster in the history of nuclear energy
production in the US took place. Unit Two of the Three Mile Island had a meltdown releasing some
amount of radioactivity into the surrounding area. The meltdown led to the possibility of Unit 2 of the
reactor facility to explode. The ramifications of the accident revealed the conceptual difficulties of
assessing social risks and the political difficulties in managing them (Nelkin, March 1981).This paper
aims at describing the accident, the post accident setup and clean up and the various losses which have
been attributed to the disaster. It also intends to develop an understanding of the various complex
issues and social vulnerabilities and risks that caused the disaster. The paper raises a very important
question about the safety of the nuclear power plants in the world and the risk the reactors pose to the
people and environment as a whole.
Introduction:
The Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station (TMI) is located in the Susquehanna River flowing
in the south of Harrisburg Town in the state of Pennsylvania, U.S. The generating station comprises of
two generating units TMI 1 and TMI 2. TMI 1 has a generating capacity of 852 MWe and the

On graduation day, do you focus on being happy? Thinking that you are done and forgetting about
how much student debt you have? Nate Beeler, the artist of the cartoon Graduation Selfie captures
how that exciting day truly is. Beeler is an editorial cartoonist for the Columbus Dispatch. His work
has appeared in an abundance of news programs and other publications. Beeler has also won many
awards for his cartoons, such as the Fischetti award in 2014, and the Thomas Nast award in 2010 (The
Association of American Editorial Cartoonists). The cartoon is arguing that debt is suffocating to
recent college graduates through multiple rhetorical appeals. On college graduation day you tell
yourself, I m finally done! but are you really done?
The cartoon has a solid light blue background. In the top left corner there is purple box, inside the box

Beeler uses symbolism, labeling and exaggeration. The snake symbolizes evil because he is trying to
eat the man. Labeling is used on the snake, there is a bold and clear white label that says debt . The
size of the man s cellphone, his face, and the snake are exaggerated. The snake is much bigger than the
man. These elements bring depth to the cartoon and give you more to look at than just a snake eating a
man. The use of exaggeration on the snake shows that debt is bigger than you and it can be
suffocating. Beeler also uses a rhetorical appeal in this cartoon. I believe that the snake wrapping itself
around the man and getting ready to eat him shows you pathos, which is appeal to emotion. It is a very
relatable topic and by doing this he makes it so that other people can see this and think about how it
applies to their own lives, or if they are in the same boat as the man in the

There is no technology and David describes the world as someone in the 18th century would see it,

to set up atmosphere in the novel. I still to this day, after years between readings remember images I
formed while reading the novel. Grass between the toes, the nuclear wastes, the way the children

fresh air, clean and smooth. There are no frilly edges and there is no attempt by the author to make the
book flashy. This makes the book pure and adds to the impact of the story. As an overview, there are a
group of children who are living in Eastern Canada after some type of holocaust (this is never much of
a point in the book... no one has memories of it). Their society is strongly anti mutant with a very
strict set of rules as to what is normal and what isn t. All of this children are normal looking but are
telepathic and form a click of just a small number. The book is their story of growing up and existing

Official Narrative Essay Examination for Professional Certification in Packaging
Member Name: Nick Giesse
IoPP Member ID: 19982
Submission Date: August 4th, 2014
This question is taken from Narrative Exam Code 2NEC C7: 4. Package design projects usually start
with a Package Design Brief document which will describe in some detail what the package is
suppose to achieve, with what product, targeted at what group, in what marketplace, against what
competition, by what means, and in conjunction with what other activities. Draw up a design brief for
a product of your choice. Include a sketch of the likely packaging system, and some general
assumptions regarding material performance requirements.
INTRODUCTION
Packaging engineers are tasked with collecting input from various functional areas in a business to
determine the best structural package for a project. Oftentimes, this project will start in the hands of
marketing or project managers, who determine the criteria the package must meet to fulfill the needs
of the project.
The packaging engineer can get this list of criteria in an organized format, usually in the form of a
package design brief, which is a document the project manager can use to get the right inputs to the
packaging engineer to start developing packaging concepts. Without this set of boundaries to design
against, it is difficult for the packaging engineer to begin any designs, because otherwise there are too
many possibilities that could be considered.

22. Congress Must Reform Current Legislation Restrict...
Affirmative Case Congress must reform current legislation to restrict bioprospecting on federal land,
and regulate the amount of monetary gain that landholders can receive from bioprospecting companies
that use their resources. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency within the
Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict
bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing
bioprospecting companies to use their resources.
Observation I Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by the
federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding how the
federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the United
States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how bioprospecting
can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as scientific research.
It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The
Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by
bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these
resources (Adair, 1997). National parklands are owned by the federal government. Therefore, our
national parks have the legal right to share in the financial benefits that

26. A Star s Temperature And Luminosity Analysis
According to the book, If you know a star s temperature and luminosity, you can determine its radius
(Seeds 151). The luminosity of a star is related to its absolute magnitude, and its spectral class has a
relation to the star s temperature. So, in order to estimate the size of Betelgeuse, we would need both
its luminosity (in which we can substitute its absolute magnitude) and its temperature (spectral class),
which we have been provided. The absolute magnitude refers to the brightness of a star if it were 10
pc away (Seeds 145), and the lower the number the brighter the star (and vice versa). According to the
spectral sequence, which goes O, B, A, F, G, K, then M, O stars are the hottest...M stars, the coolest
(Seeds 148), with M stars being orange/red in color.
From here, one would use the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram, which compares luminosity and spectral
class in order to estimate a star s size. A H R diagram possesses ... Show more content on

So what does this mean in regards to Betelgeuse s size? Well, there is only one explanation: Although
they are cool, they are luminous, and that must mean they are larger and have more surface area than
main sequence stars of the same temperature (Seeds 154). This means that Betelgeuse is a red giant,
which are roughly 10 to 100 times larger than the sun (Seeds 154). In fact, according to the H R
diagram on page 155, Betelgeuse is even considered a supergiant, which are over a thousand times the
sun s diameter (Seeds 154). In conclusion, one can estimate the size of roughly any star if the absolute
magnitude (or luminosity) and spectral class (or temperature) is known using the H R diagram! In
Betelgeuse s case, we can estimate that it is an extremely large supergiant star based on its position on

4. ANALYSIS
Comparing the term sheet of the offer from RSC and TCV consortium to that of CellTech, RSC and
TCV s PCPT had a much more dilutive impact to Metapath upon exit.
Under liquidation, the term sheet stipulates that the Series E investors is entitled to claim its initial
investment of $10.75 million plus any accrued but unpaid dividend. Any proceeds after this claim will
then be distributed to all common and Series E Preferred shareholders on an as converted pro rata
basis. This double dipping means that RSC will not only recover its initial investment of $5 millions,
but also enjoys the convertible benefits.
As a result, if the sale occurs before 2000, the profitability for A D tranches will be negatively
impacted by the preferred characteristic in the Series E. However if the sale occurs after 2000, A and
B tranches will be gradually redeemed on an annual basis, which will leave C and D tranches to be
mostly impacted adversely by the preferred characteristic in the Series E stock.
Under the circumstance of an IPO, tranches C, D and E will convert to common at their negotiated
prices while A B will be redeemed.
However, on the flip side, the price offered by RSC and TCV consortium was $6, which was
significantly higher than the first three rounds of financing (tranches A,B and C) at

We all grow up differently. We have different parents, siblings, houses and experiences that shape us

Everyone can impact our life but it is you who chooses who. Everyone is different and I am no

I am one of the few people that get to experience having a twin. We were born in Springfield,
Missouri on October 14th. I was 5 pounds and my sister, Mariah, was 4. We were a month premature
so we had a few health problems. Mariah and I were both born with holes in our hearts. As we grew,
the holes fixed themselves. Unfortunately, this was not the end. Mariah was kept in the ICU for a few
months after we were born. When I was about 6 8 months old, I came down with whooping cough. I

Organizational Behavior and Leadership Style
Abstract: This paper examines the leadership position I would occupy in the fictional Commerzbank
and details the leadership style I would take on as their VP of Development. As VP, I would
emphasize a transformational leadership style, as that style would encourage my members of staff and
the company at large to evolve to their highest potential. I would also encourage an atmosphere of
transparency for the good of the company at large. I would also incorporate emotionally intelligent
leadership, so as to foster an environment of acceptance and teamwork. These factors would no doubt
bolster the development of the company, driving it into the next century. If I were working for a
company such as Commerzbank AG and were able to select the position that I felt best suited me, I
would select the job as VP of development. Such a position would give me more power and autonomy
than a manager, but would still allow me to oversee and supervise the members of staff in my
department as managers do. The biggest draw of this position would be its ability to direct the
company towards innovation and expansion. Just as Steve jobs and his think tank of engineers were
able to make Apple into one of the most creative, profitable and desirable companies that this century
has ever known, a strong VP who s prepared to take risks and think in a distinct and original way, will

Portland property taxes are evaluated by an appraiser that can raise your taxes by simply looking at the
value of the surrounding homes. Another thing that may raise your taxes could be improvements to
your neighbourhood like a max line being installed near your street. One of the most surprising factors
is that your taxes can be raised without the appraiser ever looking at your home directly. They don t
have to enter your property or take into account the economic status of the tax payer. Another
surprising find in the article was the dramatic difference in tax rates between neighbourhood.

33. The Effects Of Methyl Isocyanate On The World s Worst...
It was the night of December 2, 1984. It was the night that would change the lives of nearly 500,000
citizens in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, forever. It was the night that at least 30 tons of the highly
toxic gas, methyl isocyanate, was released from the Union Carbide factory in Bhopal, India. It has
been recorded as the world s worst industrial disaster. But how did such a disaster take place? The
Union Carbide plant dated back to 1969 where it was a formulations plant. The original purpose of the
plant was to produce pesticides for use in India in an attempt to fix India s growing food demands
according to the Union Carbide Corporation. The use of carbamate pesticides and insecticides, more
specifically methyl isocyanate, or MIC, was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were dangers with using such insecticides however. Organophosphate poisoning, the result from
exposure to insecticides, was a potential threat in addition to the numerous risks associated with
methyl isocyanate. The United States Environmental Protection Agency mentions that there are many
chronic effects as well as short term effects from acute exposure from MIC such as reproductive and
developmental effects, decreased fertility, blindness, difficulty breathing, respiratory tract infections,
and fevers. MIC was not only being produced to incorporate into herbicides and insecticides, but also
so carbamate pesticides could be used for medical purposes. Human pharmacotherapy, therapy using
pharmaceutical drugs, uses the chemicals regularly, for example, HIV treatments contained carbamate
groups. One of the most toxic carbamate pesticides is carbofuran. It is very popular for use in
controlling insects in field crops such as potatoes, corn, and soybeans. It is also known as a systemic
insecticide, a plant absorbs it through the roots and then distributes the insecticide through the organs.
It is highly toxic to vertebrates with an oral LD50 of 8 14 mg according to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. The CDC also mentioned that carbofuran causes alterations in hormone
concentration, an endocrine disruptor, and has one of the highest acute toxicities to

34. Response To Fear Research Paper
Fear is a survival mechanism. Our brains are able to detect when there is a source of stress that might
be a threat, it then activates a series of events that enable us to be ready to fight or escape. This
reaction is scientifically known as fight or flight. When stress activates that part of the brain, known as
amygdala region, it overrides conscious thought which allows the brain to contribute all of its energy
into facing the threat.
Most people are scared of what can hurt them such as heights, wild animals, spiders, etc. One of our
body s response to fear, is to create chilling goosebumps, which makes the hair on your arms stand up.
This is actually a mechanism that our ancestors adopted. They were covered in hair, so when they

searching for local varieties with new tastes. Among the cities spotlighted were Asahikawa in
Hokkaido, Wakayama and Tokushima. Since the mid 1990, however, the focus has shifted from
localities to individual chefs. And now there are over 200 thousands raumen restaurants in Japan.
Raumen became Japanese national food. 2

Hitchcock Deserves His Status as an Auteur
Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was born August 13, 1899, Leytonstone, England, and died in 1980 in Los
Angeles, USA, of liver and heart problems. He went to Ignatius College in London, to the School of
Engineering and Navigation, and then to the University of London. He started his film career in 1919
illustrating title cards for silent films at Paramount s Famous Players Laskey Studio in London. There
he learned scripting, editing and art direction and rose to assistant director in 1922. By 1925, he had
directed his first finished film, The Pleasure Garden shot in Munich. His breakthrough film, The

The film begins with Marion, who steals $40,000 so she can afford to get married. She drives from the
city to her lover and, on the way, stops at the Bates Motel where she meets the owner, Norman, a very
nervous but friendly young man. After hearing over tea with Norman about his relationship with his
mother, Marion retreats to her room where she has a shower before bed. While in the shower she is
brutally murdered by what seems to be Norman s mother. Later, when a private investigator goes
looking for Marion, he is also horrifically murdered by the mother and only when Marion s sister,
Leila, accompanied by Marion s lover, Sam, comes looking for her do we discover that the mother is
actually Norman. He had been dressing up as his mother since killing her, along with her second
husband, many years earlier.
The Parlour Scene =================
A key scene in Psycho is the parlour scene. Nothing horrible happens in this scene but it provides the
audience with clues that something is not quite right. In particular, it begins to reveal the darker side of
Norman s personality and his pathological obsession with his mother. Hitchcock uses camera work,
lighting and mise en scene, particularly birds, to create a sense of menace.

38. President Nixon Vs. Nixon In The 1960s
The 1960 presidential campaign showed to be historic in the invention of television for
advertisements, news interviews and policy debates, something that would occupy Kennedy s youthful
hands. Four debates were created between Nixon and Kennedy, and Nixon had his tactics helping him
from the beginning of it. During them, he was slowly getting better from the flu and looked exhausted,
and then when he came to the TV studio, Nixon decided to not wear much TV makeup, scared that the
press would accuse him of trying to copy Kennedy s fresh looks of his tan skin. Even though he
shaved, Nixon s five o clock shadow showed on the cameras, and his gray suit blended into the gray
background which was a difference from Kennedy s well fitted dark suit. Nixon was still trying to ...

By 1968, the nation was openly struggling over the war in Vietnam, not only on college campuses but
in mainstream media. In February, newscaster Walter Cronkite took an almost unprecedented (for him)
position, offering commentary on his recent trip to Vietnam, stating that he felt victory was not
possible and that the war would end in a stalemate. President Lyndon Johnson lamented, If I ve lost
Cronkite, I ve lost the nation. As the antiwar protest continued, Nixon s campaign stayed above the
unravel, showing him as a figure of stability and appealing to what he referred to as the silent majority
of social conservatives who were the steady foundation of the American public. Nixon was able to
create a union of Southern and Western conservatives during the campaign. In exchange for their
support, he promised to appoint strict constructionists to the federal judiciary and selected a running
mate acceptable to the South, Maryland governor Spiro Agnew. The two waged really affected media

39. As Defined By Merriam-Webster, Insanity Is “A Severely
As defined by Merriam Webster, insanity is a severely disordered state of the mind usually occurring
as a specific disorder . The stories A Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and A Long Day s Journey
Into Night by Eugene O Neill revolve around the development of their deeply flawed characters with
severe mental instabilities. The damage done to the characters around them is matched only by the
mental disturbance of each of the characters. The perversion of the character s minds is so severe, that
each has convinced themselves that throughout most of each story, their actions are not the root cause
of the turmoil around them. (ADD A BETTER TOPIC SENTENCE????) A Tell Tale Heart begins

drive people to commit crimes as morally corrupt as murder without understanding how terrible their
actions are. To the narrator, to attack the blind eye that disturbs him so and murdering the old man are
two separate events. In A Long Day s Journey Into Night by contrast, the mother in the story, named
Mary, begins a normal woman concerned with the wellbeing of her son who was recently been
diagnosed with what was commonly called consumption, but is now referred to as tuberculosis.
Because she is so anxious about her son s worsening health, Mary withdraws, via morphine, into a
happier past (Text 2). As the play progresses, Mary s worsening mental state is reflected by her
worsening appearance, climaxing near the end of the work, when she ends the night, eyes glassy,
wedding gown half worn, high on morphine regressing back to her happiest day, her wedding day. In
her state she has completely disassociated herself from her surroundings, so much so that she forgets
to ask her son, returning from the doctor what the diagnosis was. Her addiction causes her state to
worsen throughout the play, damaging the relationships of those around her, culminating in a complete
disconnection from reality. Each of these characters suffer from mental instabilities resulting in
damage to the people

40. Performance Related Pay ( Nics ) Links Reward Or Salary...
Performance Related Pay
Performance related pay (PRP) links reward or salary progression to some form of performance rating.
This could be part of a performance management or appraisal system, or it could be based on an
entirely separate appraisal of performance exclusively for pay purposes (Armstrong 2001). PRP often
requires a number of procedures in order to work including: regular target setting (establishing
specific objectives for the individual), annual appraisals of the worker s performance against pre set
targets and paying each worker a bonus according to the degree to which the targets have been
exceeded (Stimpson 2014). PRP has been used for a long time in the private sector, traditionally being
used as a more of a reward for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The change has provoked considerable public debate about whether private sector pay systems are
appropriate for public employees, and it is one that is still not resolved (Brown 2002). Performance
related pay can be of two types: individual PRP and team PRP (Bhattacharya 2009). Individual PRP is
often determined by the employee s own performance, in most cases by sales, customer feedback and
the amount of set goals they have met. Team based pay links team rewards to predefined performance
targets that can only be achieved at the team level (Dewettinck 2012) which in many cases, especially
in sales showrooms I believe it is easier to assess a teams performance by looking at their customers
experience as a whole.
Having looked at what PRP is and how it is used, I have then chosen to research a number of
contrasting opinions on whether it is actually effective and if so which businesses are more suited to
the scheme. When looking at motivation in the workplace, the basis for PRP is the rather controversial
view that money is a motivator (Nelarine 2001) and a number of researchers have differed in their
views on whether PRP really does motivate employees. Although Barnes (2008) suggests that at one
level a well designed and managed performance appraisal system should enable operations managers
to improve the motivation of individual employees, others have suggested otherwise. Price who
believes that pay for performance is

42. The Gastrointestinal System
Digestion occurs mainly in the gut, formally known as the gastrointestinal (GI) system. Organs in the
GI system include the stomach, small and large intestines as well as accessory organs such as the liver,
gall bladder and pancreas. Accessory organs are known to provide secretions into the GI tract. These
secretions include digestive juices that enter the gut by glands, including salivary glands, gastric
glands in the stomach wall, pancreas and wall of the small intestine. Gastrin is a peptide hormone that
stimulates secretion of gastric acid by the parietal cells of the stomach and helps gastric motility
(Dimaline and Varro, 2014). It is important due to acid production in the stomach for dissolving and
digesting some foods and is essential for normal cell growth in the stomach lining, walls of small
intestine and colon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cholecystokinin (CCK) is an important hormonal regulator of the digestive process by contracting the
gallbladder and stimulating pancreatic juice secretion. Based on rodent data, the pancreas is
considered to be regulated physiologically by CCK, but not by gastrin (Fourmy, Gigoux, Reubi,
2011). CCK cells are concentrated in the small intestine, where the hormone is secreted into the blood
following ingestion. Primary functions of CCK also include stimulation of pancreatic secretion and
gallbladder contraction, regulation of gastric emptying, and induction of satiety (Liddle, 1997). Thus,
CCK is first in rank due to its contribution in regulating ingestion, digestion, and absorption of

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: A Seismic Shift in How People Eat In Hans Taparia and Pamela Koch s
New York Times online article A Seismic Shift in How People Eat, posted on November 6, 2015, the
current struggle that big food companies are experiencing in relation to increased consumer awareness
is discussed. Prompting this article is the overwhelming movement to healthy eating by the general
populace and the havoc it is wreaking on corporate companies. Highly popular among health
enthusiasts of all ages, the topic of this paper appeals to a wide audience. Although easily missed at
first due to the beautiful flow and structure of the paper, the opinions and claims by Taparia and Koch
are primarily based in logos where facts and statistics are quoted, and a fair amount of pathos where
vivid imagery is utilized to paint a picture of the scenario for the reader. Differing slightly from the
normal presentation, the ethos of the paper is not so much enforced through personal titles or
anecdotes, but rather through the combination of presenting the ideas and facts clearly and
persuasively, all adding to the author s credibility. When the paper comes to a conclusion, the reader is
left with a solid understanding of how big food companies are finally being forced to share their dirty
secrets and clean up their act in order to compete with the small scale, organic based companies and
the jeopardy they are facing unless they change their ways drastically. As the paper begins,

45. Memory Retrieval Essay
Memory retrieval is likely to be good after repeated testing of that material. In fact, practising retrieval
has a larger effect on memory than revising the information (Hockley, 2009).
Another factor that influences the quality of retrieved information is the way one studied the material.
As such, material that was studied over a number of sessions and contexts has more chance of being
retrieved correctly after a period of time than the material that has been studied over one long session
(Bjork, 2001). The spacing between the sessions should not be too big or too little, as in case it is too
big the person might simply forget the material he already studied, and in case it is too little the
spacing effect would not work. Overall, spacing is important for long term retention, whilst cramming
over one long session works for short term memory.
Another thing that matters is the information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Context cues play a major role in memory retrieval, and might vary from the room, smell, or sounds
(Eich, 1980). Academic implications of this finding might be studying in a silence, as exams are
usually conducted in a silence. One of the important context cues is if a person consumed some
substances while studying and while taking an exam. According to Carter and Cassady (1998) that is
true for caffeine, as well as other substances such as nicotine for example, if one was smoking while
studying, injection of nicotine in the system might later trigger the memory. It is also true for cocaine
and amphetamines. Additionally, Adan and Serra Grabulosa (2010) found that a combination of
caffeine and glucose helps memory consolidation; therefore, studying that is combined with
consuming of those substances would lead to a better information recall. Obviously, one has to think
of health consequences and avoid drugs, as well as limit his caffeine, nicotine and glucose
