George Orwell wrote the essay "Politics and the English Language" to critique the declining quality of English language usage, especially in political writing. He argues that political language has become stale, vague, and lacking in precision due to certain bad writing habits that have developed. - Structure: Arteries have thicker, more muscular walls than veins to withstand the higher blood pressure from the heart. Arteries also have a smaller lumen (inner opening) that is round, while veins have a larger, irregularly shaped lumen.
- Blood flow: Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to tissues and organs. The blood is under high pressure. Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart at a lower pressure, having to work against gravity.
- Valves: Veins contain one-way valves to prevent backflow of blood, while arteries do not have valves.

In conclusion, crafting such a comparison requires a nuanced examination of multiple interrelated factors while maintaining balance.
Film Analysis Essays. General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal ChurchTaina Myers
Writing a film analysis essay is a challenging task that requires critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and creative expression. It involves carefully watching the film multiple times to scrutinize elements like cinematography, sound, editing, and acting within their cultural and historical contexts. The writer must then interpret the film's meaning and the director's intentions, balancing subjective and objective analysis. They must structure the essay coherently with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, selecting evidence to support their thesis while maintaining a logical flow of ideas. Most importantly, the essay should offer a fresh perspective that enhances appreciation for the film rather than simply restating existing interpretations. Successfully analyzing and articulating insights about a film in a written format is a
Art Museum Essay. Minot State UniversityTaina Myers
Writing an effective essay about an art museum requires more than a superficial understanding and description of the artworks. It demands extensive research into the historical and cultural contexts of the pieces, a grasp of art history to analyze diverse styles and periods, and the ability to convey subjective interpretations and the emotional impacts of the art in an engaging narrative. Successfully navigating these challenges results in an essay that describes the physical space of the museum but also captures the essence of the artistic journey within its walls.

The passage discusses the Spanish conquistadors who conquered Cuba in the 16th century. It notes that while the conquistadors caused suffering among native populations through brute force, their actions were also responsible for Cuba's development into a flourishing colony. It provides some brief historical context, mentioning Columbus's initial discovery of Cuba in 1492 and the Spanish conquistador Diego Velasquez's conquest of the island in 1511 under orders from the Spanish crown.

The document discusses issues with lobbying and commercial/political interests influencing accounting standards. While some market benefits may arise, deciding those benefits falls to "real politic" where impartial people should make decisions free from pressure. The Enron collapse showed watchdogs like boards, auditors, banks and lawyers had close Enron ties and didn't question aggressive accounting, so reforms aim to prevent conflicts.

The document discusses analyzing Dorothy Parker's poem "One Perfect Rose" through three modes of discourse: structure, voice, and metaphor. It explores how the poem conveys themes of frustration and disappointment with romantic conventions. When adapting the poem to prose fiction, conceptual complications arise due to differences in how structure is used symbolically between poetry and prose genres. The symbolic significance of the original poem's structure must be substituted with narrative elements when translating it to prose form.

This document discusses the pros and cons of aneuploidy testing during pregnancy. Current testing methods like amniocentesis are invasive and carry risks, while cell-free DNA screening from maternal blood provides a non-invasive option but has limitations. False positive rates can range from 1-8% for cell-free DNA screening due to factors like maternal mosaicism or technical errors. Improved screening methods may help reduce false positives and improve the positive predictive value of non-invasive prenatal screening.

The document discusses the political, economic, and social reforms introduced in the South between 1864 and 1877 after the Civil War. There were three phases of Reconstruction led by Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and the Radical Republicans. The Reconstruction period aimed to restore the Union, transform Southern society, and enact legislation favoring freed slaves, though some reforms did not survive the Compromise of 1877. The Radical Republicans disagreed with Lincoln's Ten Percent Plan and instead implemented the Wade Davis Bill to guarantee black equality.

The document discusses the government's monetary and fiscal policy reactions during the Great Recession. It explains that Keynesian economics holds that a depressed economy results from inadequate spending and that government intervention through monetary and fiscal policy can help. Monetary policy uses changes in money supply to alter interest rates and spending, while fiscal policy uses changes in government spending and taxes to influence aggregate demand. The document goes on to discuss the Federal Reserve's and government's specific monetary and fiscal policy actions during the Great Recession.

3. Emotional Labor Among Paralegals By Jennifer Piere
Emotional Labor among Paralegals by Jennifer Pierce is centered around the phrase emotional
labor. After reading the article the reader discovers that the phrase emotional labor refers to
when an employee has to push their feelings aside in order to please or influence their boss or
clients. Emotional labor also consists of two components which are difference and caretaking.
According to Goffman, (as cited by Pierce) deference is a type of ceremonial activity which
functions as symbolic means by which appreciation is regularly conveyed to the recipient (129).
Nevertheless, care taking is when the paralegal attends to the attorneys needs and assumes a mother
role by being pleasant and giving reassurance. Emotional labor is conducted by both female and
male paralegals; nevertheless, male and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male paralegals are allowed to be neutral or polite which results in them putting a lid on their
emotions. For instance, Peirce mentions a paralegal named Bill who was always tactful,
courteous, and considerate of other people s feelings but never overly solicitous (135). This
means that even though Bill cared about other people s feelings he would never actually be
interested in them. On the other hand, female paralegals are expected to be actively involved. For
example, Peirce mentions a paralegal named Lisa who was warm, friendly, and outgoing... was
always cheerful. She tried to please people by remembering their birthdays and cheering them up
when they were down (135). This line shows that unlike Bill, Lisa was actually interested in other
people s feelings and tries to please other people. Furthermore. Male paralegals distance themselves
by using criticism and contempt. To illustrate, this Peirce mentions a paralegal named Tony who
criticized another paralegal for being

are a 29.5 day cycle there a four main phases; new moon (1st quarter), half moon (2nd quarter), full

Any phase of the moon, from the new moon to the full moon, is described as Waxing, whilst any

5. The Importance Of Intervention From The Arctic Council
The Arctic contributes a distinctive region which combines a unique biosphere and a wealth of
natural resources, which often become a source of controversy. This paper will argue that the
significant climate changes which are taking place in the Arctic Region open new pathways for
economic opportunism for Russia, which calls for radical intervention from the ArcticCouncil.
Firstly, this case study will give a framework of the main theory which will be used throughout in
order to justify the importance of intervention from the Arctic Council. The main theorist used is
Oran Young, who provides an agenda in how institutions such as the Arctic Council should function
effectively in the Arctic. Moreover, the climate changes which are taking... Show more content on

Furthermore, through institutionalism, one can understand that the lack of intervention from non
state actors contributes to this idea of economic logic over environmental sustainability. Arguably
based on institutionalism the European actors in the Arctic, which are familiar with intervention
from institutions, are influenced for instance by UNEP when it comes in to make a decision in the
specific area. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more
economically and military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of
the area over the natural resources in the Arctic.
Institutionalism is a theory which bases its principles of the idea that there is a need for stronger
global institutions and norms as well as sufficient state and local capacity to constrain and direct the
global political economy (Clapp and Dauvergne, 2011, 7). More specifically, the ideas of
institutionalism do not set aside ideas such as global economic growth and foreign investment in
areas of extreme wealth in natural resources such as the Arctic. Nonetheless, they simultaneously
underline the importance of environmental sustainability which is succeeded through the setting of
institutional norms which will channel a better environmental management in addition to
sustainable growth. As mentioned in the work of Oran Young, a political scientist

To conclude, we here at St john s are under the impression that this new policy needs major changes

The purpose of this investigation is to examine the extent to which the Chinese Cultural Revolution
impacted China s economy from 1966 to 1970. The main body of the investigation will focus on
the persecution and violence towards high level party officials and capitalists by the Red Guards
and the Destroy the Four Olds campaign. The Destroy the Four Olds campaign was significant
because it inhibited industrial and agricultural innovation and production of an entire country for
a decade as it placed the country s economy and industry into the hands of inexperienced
revolutionaries. Two sources that will be used will be China: A New History and Modern China:
The Fall and Rise of a Great Power, 1850 to the Present, and they will be evaluated in regards to

8. Cultural Sensitivity In Healthcare
Cultural sensitivity is being aware of different cultures and customs and beliefs of other people and
having the skills to interact with others on a daily basis without hindering their cultural beliefs and
traditions. As health care professionals, it is very important to have cultural sensitivity and
competence so that we can overcome the barriers to communication as well as providing adequate
treatment to a patient. In healthcare facilities, we may come across many people who are from
different backgrounds, social classes, race, and ethnicity. In order to provide proper care, a health
care professional must be competent enough to recognize and respect patients who come from
different culture than their own. In a pharmacy work setting, pharmacists... Show more content on

One was Humalog, which is a human insulin analog and the other was porcine derived insulin.
Some populations like the Muslim culture have a taboo against porcine products and hence they
would refuse to get treated if the doctor prescribed a porcine derived insulin. The physicians thus
needs to be aware and be able to meet the patient s preferences or be able to provide alternative
drugs so that they can improve the health of their patient. Such minor details like preference for
bovine derived insulin or a human insulin analog can only be known if the health care professional
establish a good relationship with the patient and get to know the patient and their background.
Another example of a situation where cultural sensitivity applies is during patient counseling. It is
not okay to assume that a patient s health literacy is high just because they have a college degree
and not offer a proper counseling. Especially in the case of a patient who was born and brought up
outside the United States and migrated here, they may have expert knowledge about their field of
study, and do not know anything about taking medications. It is important to gain the trust of the
patients by acknowledging and respecting their culture. At a hospital pharmacy setting, we may not
come across a lot of patients, but a clinical pharmacist will be interacting with patients from
morning till evening and therefore it is very important for them to have cultural sensitivity in order

9. The Emergency Medicine Physician Essay Essay
On a busy Monday evening, the emergency medicine physician I was working with started to get a
history from our 52 year old male patient who presented asking for a refill on his pain medication.
As more information was gathered, it was revealed that the patient had run out of his medication
two months earlier and had yet to set up an appointment with his primary care physician. The
physician bluntly cut the patient off, informing him that he needed to make an appointment with
his primary care physician, as he would not be refilling the prescription due to the department s
policy of not refilling narcotic prescriptions. The patient became very enraged at this news. The
physician then promptly left the room as a result. As we exited, the patient began spitting at us, then
he quickly left the department while loudly swearing at the doctor. Personally, this patient provider
interaction was one of the first interactions that made me truly start to critically analyze what the
term medical professionalism meant and what the responsibilities of a medical professional
consisted of.
At first, I started contemplating whether the patient was right to be upset or if my physician was
correct with his treatment toward the man. Immediately, my first thought was that obviously the
physician was right as this patient was just enraged because he could not have his narcotics.
However, as I recalled the event in my head, it just did not sit right with me. Since no one left the
situation happy,

people have been arguing whether or not Throgs Neck has two GG s or one. The name Throgs
Neck originally comes from an English man named John Throckmorton who was able to stay as
the Dutch had allowed him to, in 1642. Ultimately, the American Indians drove out the Dutch.
By the 19th century, land and developers started to appear. Many landowner sold their

Throgs Neck is that it was once a summer resort that would explain why as of today beach clubs

Ben Garner Mr.Tapie Social Studies Period 7 21 May 2015 The Life of President Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, is often spoke of in a
serious manner, being that during his presidency a civil war took place, slaves were freed, a
president openly wanted blacks and women to have rights, and many other things that seem
utterly ridiculous, for the time period in which they took place. However, there is another side
of Lincoln that is rarely focused on, who Lincoln was as a person. His personality, his life. This
is the story of Abraham (No middle name) Lincoln. To begin, some background knowledge and
information about Lincoln should be discussed. First, Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in
rural Kentucky. Now, some interesting facts about Lincoln, he battled depression most of his
life, Lincoln although never really stated what he identified as, it was believed that he was an
agnostic or at most a deist, but did not identify to any particular religion, and he did not drink,
chew tobacco, or smoke. To begin Lincoln s early life, he had a poor relationship with his father
after his mother died. He believed his father lacked ambition and regarded him as anti intellectual.
His father represented the things Lincoln wanted to get away from. In spring of 1831 Lincoln left
his parents (father and stepmother) to try to make a life for himself. He was a popular young man,

Satisfied employees make for satisfied customers, and satisfied customers make for an ongoing
stream of revenue and profits for SAS. SAS s leaders recognize both the benefits and costs
associated with keeping employees satisfied. One of the most significant benefits for SAS is a
very low annual turnover rate. The company s turnover rate is less than four percent, as
compared to approximately 25 percent for the industry as a whole. This low turnover saves the
company about $70 million annually in employee replacement costs. (14) On the cost side, of
course, is the company s monetary outlay for the various programs. David Russo, the human
resources director, argues that the employee replacement cost savings more than pays for the
company s generous benefits. That s the beauty of it, says Russo. There s no way I could spend
all the money we save. (15) Perhaps of more concern on the cost side is the potential for
employees failing to perform. In commenting on the company s performance expectations for
employees, Goodnight says: I like to be around happy people, but if they don t get that next
release out, they re not going to be very happy. (16) Pondering the likelihood that SAS employees
would take advantage of the company s relaxed atmosphere, John Sall, co owner of SAS,
observes: I can t imagine that playing Ping Pong would be more interesting than work. (17) David

Federalist Paper Essay The Federalist Papers are a collection of eighty five articles that explain
the United States Constitution, written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.
The Federalist Papers were written in response to the Anti Federalist attacks on the ratification of
the newly written U.S. Constitution in 1787. Federalist Paper 10 was authored by James
Madison and published on November 22, 1787 under the pseudonym Publius. In Federalist Paper

Madison believed that a republic could protect liberties better than a democracy. Madison
explains that if it s a minority faction, voting can fix this, so a democracy can work here, but if it
s a majority faction, a large republic can fix this. Firstly, Madison states that a direct democracy
cannot control the conflict of factions because the largest faction dominates and there would be
no solution to protect the smaller factions against the actions of the overpowering majority
faction. Therefore, a direct democracy wouldn t be able to protect personal security or the rights
of property. Secondly, Madison argues that a large on the other hand would establish a
government where representatives are selected to rule the people in order to protect the minority
from the tyranny of the majority. Madison feared that a direct democracy was bad because he
thought the people weren t informed enough which could lead to corruption. This is why Madison
yearned for men with intelligence, passion and patriotism towards their country so they won t
make folly decisions, but he explains that the inverse may yet occur. Men of factious tempers,
prejudice, and of sinister designs may as well betray the interest of the people through corruption or
intrigue. He argues a contradiction by explaining that the possibility of this occurring in a

19. Essay on The Tell-Tale Heart
Andrew Fiddler Professor Esquivel English 1020 15 February 2013 Themes of The Tell Tale
Heart Edgar Allen Poe explores the similarity of love and hate in many stories, especially The
Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator confesses a love for an old man whom he then
violently murders and dismembers the body and hides the pieces below the floorboards in the
bedroom. When the police arrive, the narrator appears normal and unshaken by the murder. Later
on, the man gives in to the guilt and cannot withstand knowing anymore and not telling anyone. The
narrator reveals his madness by attempting to separate the person of the old man, whom he loves,
from the old man s supposedly evil eye, which triggers the narrator s... Show more content on

The narrator reveals his inability to recognize that the eye is the I, or identity, of the old man. The
eyes symbolize the essence of human identity, which cannot be separated from the body. The eye
cannot be killed without causing the man to die. According to the narrator, For it was not the old
man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. (Poe), the eye not the old man haunted him and had to be
eliminated. Characterization also helps the reader understand the theme. I think that the narrator is
unnamed to give the reader another sense that this whole story could happen to them, or anyone
they know. It shows the theme that everyone has an evil side, and although it is hard to admit, all
humans are capable of committing a murder such as this. But just like everyone is capable of
committing this kind of crime, everyone also feels the guilt after the deed is done. As the story
goes on, the readers can see the madness growing in the narrator. At first, he tells the story quite
calmly. He even explains that after the murder, he was completely calm with the police officers.
The narrator then states The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. (Poe),
thinking he could get by with the murder but he could not stand the guilt that came along with it.
By the end of the story when he hears the heartbeat, his whole mannerism changes. He is stressed
and his words and thoughts come out in a panicked tone. Interestingly, there is only one set of

Apostle Paul, using his Jewish heritage as clout, employs his Jewish education throughout his
epistles to further establish a personal connection with the community. He was trained as a
Pharisee, which indicates that he, at one point, spent a considerable amount of time in the city of
Jerusalem. Additionally, Pharisees were the most respected religious group and political party of
the Holy Land. The Pharisees were committed to the accurate interpretation of the [Jewish
Scripture] and to scrupulous obedience to its commands...[and] they aspired to a [high] level of
purity (Trebilco 4). After Paul s conversion to Christianity, it is clear that he regularly consulted
and had extensive knowledge of both the Greek and Hebrew Old Testaments. Paul s ability to cite
Old Testament passages in the Jewish native language displays his familiarity with their theological
framework, creating a religious connection and proving himself to be a trustworthy source of
information. In addition to applying his deeply rooted Jewish background to create kinship among
the Jews, Paul was heavily influenced by his Greek surroundings, and his Hellenistic background
fostered Paul s ability to deliver a new message to a new community, the Gentiles. Born in the Greco
Roman city of Tarsus, Paul received a traditional Greek education along with his conservative
Jewish education. Greek education consisted of grammatical instruction, rhetorical training, and an
introduction to Greek literature, all of which

Romeo states in Act 1, Here is much to do with hate, but more with. By analyzing the many forms

Romeo and Juliet, the tragic play by William Shakespeare, centers around the love story between
Romeo, the young heir of the Montagues, and Juliet, the daughter of the house of Capulet. Because
of an on going feud between the two families, Romeo and Juliet are forced to keep their love a

Friar Lawrence s place in the play is in between these two opposites, as is the nurses. In Act 2,
scene 5 after returning from her first mission to Romeo, Juliet s Nurse tells her impatient
mistress, I am the drudge, and toil in your delight . At this point, we are inclined to take the
Nurse at her word. When we first encounter her in Act I, scene 3, the Nurse of Romeo and Juliet
appears to be a comic character given to bawdy humor and innuendo, but this coarse character is
softened by her fondness for Juliet. In Friar Lawrence s case I think when he agrees to marry
Romeo and Juliet It is a desperate attempt to fuse together two opposites to end the skirmish
between the two families. County Paris is juxtaposed with Romeo throughout the play, and by
doing so; Shakespeare highlights the extraordinary nature of Romeo s love for Juliet. Paris is
completely ignorant of the romance between Romeo and Juliet, and so while his own suit for
Juliet threatens the lovers plans, he is not a blocking character. Moreover, in the tomb scene,
Paris acquits himself well, displaying a depth of affection for Juliet and earning Romeo s praise.
Juliet on the other and has absolutely no interest in Paris, this is another illustration of unrequited
love. Taking this into consideration I believe that Paris does not only love Juliet out of lust
because in the tomb scene Paris puts his own life on the line to save the one he claims to love. Alas

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth
age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not
include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents
anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most
importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing
the challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the
homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they
are forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care
leave their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards
(Margolin, 2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection
after rejection to leave home of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth
sometimes have fewer than $250 in cash, only one third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one
quarter have the basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the
tools (Krinsky, 2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding

The Aurora Borealis
Despite a distance of 93 million miles, the sun provides us with heat, energy, and the mystical
Aurora Borealis. There are many beliefs for why the Aurora Borealis exists; the Inuit believe that
the spirits of their ancestors can be seen in the Aurora Borealis. Norse Mythology states that the
Aurora Borealis is a fire bridge to the sky built by the gods. But because of science, we now know
that the sun causes the Aurora Borealis.
What Causes the Aurora Borealis?
The surface of the sun is worlds away. But on that surface, immense storms rage across the surface.
These storms hurtle gusts of charged solar particles across the abyss of space. If the Earth happens
to be in the path of the particles, the particles collide with molecules and atoms in the Earth s
atmosphere. These atoms become stimulated by the sun s particles and light up. But what happens
to cause the atoms to light up is where things start to get interesting. Atoms are made up of a
nucleus and a cloud of electrons circling this nucleus. When the sun charged particles hit the atoms
in the Earth s atmosphere; energy is transferred to the electrons, causing them to move further away
from the nucleus. But as those electrons lose energy, they move closer to... Show more content on

These nets are illegal but still used quite often. A drift net is towed behind the boat and captures
anything that swims or floats into it. This often results in by catch, which is the unintentional
capture of certain species, such as bottlenose dolphins (Dolphin p. 2). Another damaging
technique used is long line fishing. Hundreds...of baited hooks can hang on one line. Bait can be
squid, fish... The lines can be set with anchors or left drifting with the current for 12 to 24 hours
(Long Line para. 1). These long lines are harmful to many different animals. Birds are often found
on the lines, having drowned while trying to eat the bait. Loggerhead turtles, which are
endangered, are found also. Sharks are the most common casualty of long lining. (Long Line para.
2). These are just a few of the consequences of common fishing techniques. This Reduced Catch
plan should have the ability to strike a balance between the environmentalists and fisherman.
Commercial fisherman will be able to keep fishing but will have to reduce the size of their
catches. Surely, they will not agree with the reduction in their catch size but they cannot argue the
necessity of replenishing the fish populations. It is summed up best by marine biologist Sylvia
Earle: ...what is not realized is that when the fish have gone, the way of life will come to an end

Electric Vehicles For many years car companies have been developing fully electric vehicles to
help reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses. There are many benefits and drawbacks to using
electric vehicles. Also, Europe and China are offering incentives to car companies that are
developing on electric vehicles and citizens who purchase an electric vehicle, but electric vehicles
will also affect the automotive industry. When people hear the words electric vehicles they often
focus on the drawbacks instead of the benefits to owning an electric vehicle. It is stated in the

offering incentives to companies that are developing electric cars car companies will start
working on developing electric cars more than they did in the past. This will lead to a decrease in
unemployment because companies will have to hire more people to work on developing electric
cars, so that the current developers don t get overwhelmed. In the article by Masiero it is

The Thin Line between Dreams and Reality in The Great Gatsby Differentiating between reality
and dreams can be difficult in a world of wealth, lies, and alcoholism. The characters of The
Great Gatsby seem to live the lives of Greek gods, believing that they are immortal and immune
to the perils of common people. They party all day and all night, dressed in evening wear (as
opposed to a work suit) sipping on expensive liquors. They have no sense of the lives led on the
other side of town (or down Mt. Olympus). Living in a world of uncertainty, influenced by

Gatsby s reality, after his initial encounter with Daisy, was to work hard and become wealthy so
that he could win her heart. The reality was that Daisy was now married and too comfortable in
her lifestyle to leave Tom and move on with Gatsby. Mrs. Myrtle Wilson s reality was that she
was a lower class, somewhat undesirable woman who dreamed that she could somehow elevate

and reality hit her mercilessly. Her desire to be a part of the elite class compromised her
integrity; she was so desperate to fit in that accepted whatever treatment Tom was giving her.
Chasing a painful dream and allowing herself to be abused, reality still had not sunk in for
Myrtle when Tom broke her nose when she said what he did not want to hear (Fitzgerald, 41). She

38. Siddhartha Lessons
Lessons are best learned through experience. This holds true in Hermann Hesse s Novel
Siddhartha. On his path to enlightenment, Siddhartha experiences many different circumstances
that shape the way he becomes by the end of the novel. He encounters trials and tribulations,
such as affection, self exploration, and sadness, much like I have. Through these experiences,
both Siddhartha and I were not only guaranteed knowledge of our situations, but eternal wisdom
through our experiences. Siddhartha ignores the ways of other spiritual groups, and goes on his
own path, and I break away from mean spirited people. In part one, Siddhartha decides after
trying the way of the Samanas, that it is not for him, and Govinda follows. In this quote,
Siddhartha explains to Govinda, that although Govinda believes that the samanas will help them
attain wisdom and enlightenment, he has noticed that all of them are old and frail, even
unhappy. He has lived for sixty years and has not reached the nirvana. He ll turn seventy and
eighty, and you and me, we will grow just as old and will do our exercises, and will fast, and will
meditate. But we will not reach the nirvana, he won t and we won t. (Hesse 20). This leaves
Siddhartha to believe that although they may have pushed away their desires for human contact,
and ousted their needs for food and shelter, they have still not reached enlightenment, even as old
men. They then try to make way with the Buddha. Siddhartha is bewildered by the fact

CHAMBERLAIN AND APPEASEMENT
When studying Arthur Neville Chamberlain, it is at least as important to understand his
personality, as well as his political achievement. The Prime Minister of Great Britain between 1937
and 1940, he was an intensely idealistic man, one who believed that he alone could bridge the gap
between Germany and the rest of the World. His subsequent policies of appeasement towards Nazi
Germany, a policy based upon pragmatism, fear of war, or moral conviction that lead to the
acceptance of diplomatically imposed conditions in lieu of warfare, forever characterized
Chamberlain as a most central figure at the diplomatic crossroads leading towards World War II.

We cannot foresee the time when our defences will be strong enough to safeguard our territory,

threat of German aggression grew when the Anschluss between Austria and Germany was finalised
in March 1938. However, Chamberlain did not want to form alliances in Europe, as this kind of
collaborative could result in supporting a conflict which Britain did not want, and could not afford
at the time. Many, including Chamberlain, were of the opinion that the Treaty of Versailles had
been unduly harsh on Germany. Consequently, Chamberlain was prepared to give Hitler a fair
hearing as he viewed such treatment as potentially advantageous for both countries.
One of the main areas that Chamberlain is criticised over is his acceptance of Hitler s assertion
that the only reason Germany was interested in the Sudetenland was his desire to unite all
Germans. After his first meeting with Hitler in Berchtesgaden on September 15th 1938,
Chamberlain wrote in a letter to his sister that I got the impression that here was a man who could

In this essay I am going to focus on how Alison Wright has photographed women affected by war
and conflict and how she has approached, created the story and how she has achieved this.
Wright is known internationally, from California, based in New York, a documentary
photographer, author and public speaker who works for National Geographic and travels the
world for the purpose of documenting endangered cultures, exile countries, people in poverty,
and issues that concern the human condition. After she survived an accident in 2002 in a Jungle
remote road in Laos where a bus she was on at the time was hit by a truck, Wright featured in
Outside magazine , Yoga Journal and National Geographic Adventure which showed her story of
survival. Alison set up Faces of Hope Fund what helps provide medical care and education for
children in the world who are in crisis or poverty.
Wright was influenced by work of photographers such as Lewis Hine, Eugene Smith, Dorothea
Lange, Sebastio Salgado and Henri Cartier Bresson. However, Wright s own documentary style
showed where she has worked on personal work projects, working for aid organizations such as
Unicef, BRAC, CARE and Women for Women, working close to the victims in war terror countries.

Throughout the entire story, Miss Maudie serves to directly contrast Aunt Alexandra, being
more eccentric and caring less about upholding standardvalues. For instance, while Aunt
Alexandra is stiff and traditional, Miss Maudie is a chameleon lady who worked in her flower
beds in an old straw hat and men s coveralls (Lee 42). Despite having some different values, Miss
Maudie has no problem resuming life in a dress, and does not step out of line. In this way, she
shows Scout the possibility of being a lady without giving up individuality and values. Miss
Maudie also provides Scout a place where she can enjoy herself, welcoming the latter into her
own home, especially when Jem and Dill exclude her. Scout describes their neighborly
relationship, We could play on her lawn, eat her scuppernongs if we didn t jump on the arbor,
and explore her vast back lot, terms so generous we seldom spoke to her, so careful were we to
preserve the delicate balance of our relationship, but Jem and Dill drove me closer to her with
their behavior (Lee 42). With no real friends other than Jem and Dill, this place is essential to
her wellbeing, and Maudie not only becomes a positive role model for Scout, but a friend. Miss
Maudie also shows Scout how to live more freely by not caring about what others think.
According to Miss Maudie, Footwashers believe anything that s pleasure is a sin. Did you know
some of em came out of the woods one Saturday and passed by this place and told me me and my
flowers were going to hell? (Lee 44). Here Miss Maudie shows Scout that enjoyment is more
important than others opinions. The foot washing Baptists make it clear that they do not approve
of Miss Maudie s ways of life of indulgence, but she doesn t let the disdain affect her. Miss Maudie

43. Social Movement Literature Review
Introduction:
Throughout history, social movement organizations (SMOs) or small groups, loosely connected
by a shared purpose have created transformational change. Charles Tilly defines social movements
as a series of contentious performances, displays and campaigns, by which ordinary people make
collective claims on others (Tilly 2004:3). Examples of these movements are the Women s suffrage,
civil rights and the LGBTQ movement. Similar forces are transforming businesses, military affairs
and religion. SMOs have become an important part of society because these movements provide a
forum for grievances and demands to be heard. These movements also provide citizens an
institution outside of the traditional political system.
The purpose of this paper is twofold: 1) to better understand the potential connection between the
old and new movements and 2) determine if a certain theory, strategy, method or goal makes a
social movement more or less successful compared to others as it takes more than feelings of
frustration to persuade an individual to sacrifice time, money, relationships on these grievances. As
will be indicated in the literature review, there are several arguments concerning the success of
social movements.

movement theory. McAdam, McCarthy and Zald (1996) offer a framework intended to explain

The idea that one can improve the human race by careful selection of those who mate and

improve human society. The term eugenics is from the greek, meaning well born . The idea of
eugenics is to have a society be abundant with many wanted traits, during a movement called the
melting pot where people tried to solve their problems with the use of technology. Inquiries into

The way eugenics will be used is by correcting genetic problems in embryos. Soon enough a
parent will be able to find out the accurate view of their child s genes, allowing any defects to be
seen. If the child seems perfectly healthy no changes will be made. On the other hand if a
problem is spotted the parents may choose to go through with gene therapy, also known as
eugenics. This process will not only be able to identify health problems, but also personality
traits. It allows the baby to be deigned to the parents desire. There are many pros and cons to this
concept, which is a reason why there are questions to whether the situation can be resolved or
not. One of the greatest benefits of eugenics is the possibility of fighting illnesses and curing
types of cancer. The chances of cancer or genetic illnesses is when the persons genes are altered
and the traits are passed on to their children. A way to prevent genetic illness is when the doctor
injects an artificial human chromosome into the fertilized egg, which will cause the child to
cancel the effects of the illness as the child grows. A result of this would be that people will be
able to live longer and healthier lives. By using this method, there is a possibility to creating the
perfect child as it can possibly alter the behavioral and physical traits as well. Although there are
positive effects there can also be many drawbacks. In a way eugenics can be compared to

50. Use and Abuse of Benzodiazepines
Use and abuse of Benzodiazepines
Introduction
Sedative hypnotics, including benzodiazepines, are a group of drugs used to treat the symptoms of
anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia.
Benzodiazepines are one of the most prescribed drugs which have abuse potential.
There must be special attention toward the patient s addiction history before these agents are
prescribed. An understanding of the toxicity and side effects of benzodiazepines, abuse patterns
and alternative anxiolytic and hypnotic agents may help clinicians to be safe from issues of medico
legal case.
Mechanism of action
It acts by following ways
Benzodiazepine receptors are linked mainly to Оі amino butyric acid (GABA) receptors, which
sensitize benzodiazepine receptors to the neurotransmitter GABA, the most prominent inhibitory
neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.
Enhance the affinity of the recognition site for GABA by inducing conformational changes that
make GABA binding more efficacious.
Activation of the benzodiazepine GABA chloride ionophor complex is responsible for producing
the therapeutic anxiolytic effects of benzodiazepines and for mediating many of the side effects
and, possibly, dependence and withdrawal from these drugs.
Clinical use
Following are the use of benzodiazepines

Abraham, who is also in heaven, then explains to the rich man why he is in hell; Remember that
