2. Costas Karyotakis was born in Tripoli in
Arcadia in 1896. Due to his father's job his
family had to move frequently. After
graduating from high school in Chania, Crete,
he went to Athens to study law.

3. At first he tried to work as a lawyer, but since
he had no clients he was forced to work as a
public servant while at the same time dealing
with poetry. His first poetic collection, "The
Pain of Humans and Things," was published in
February 1919, and in December 1927 he
published his latest poetic collection, entitled
"Elephants and Satires“.

4. In addition to his poetic work, Karyotakis also
wrote a lowercase, leaving us with translations
of foreign writers. His poems have been
composed by composers and bands such as
Mikis Theodorakis, "Underground Streams"
and others. Karyotakis writes poems about the
petty, and the ridiculous, arriving at sarcasm.

5. He died in 1928 at the age of 31 with
his second attempted suicide on a
beach in Preveza. In his pocket the
police found a note explaining the
reasons for his suicide
