Shipping bill/bill of export is the main documents required by the customs authority for
allowing shipment. Usually the shipping bill is of four types :-
Export duty
Free of duty
Entitlement of duty drawback
Entitlement of credit of duty under depb scheme
Re-export of imported goods
The format presented for the shipping bill are as given below :-
White shipping bill in triplicate for export of duty free of goods.
Green shipping bill in quadreplicate for the export of goods which are under claim for
duty drawback.
Yellow shipping bill in triplicate for export of dutiable goods.
Blue shipping bill in 7 copies for export under depb scheme.

2. It is important that exporter insure that the merchandise is :-
Packed correctly so that it arrives in good condition
Labeled correctly so that it arrives in good condition
Documented correctly to meet foreign government requirement as well as proper
collection standard
Insured against damage,loss,pilferage and delay
Reserve necessary space on vessel, aircraft, train and truck. The cost for their service is
legitimate export cost that should be induced in the price charged to the customer .
Checking all documentation and ensure that everything is in order.
After shipment they will return all the documents to the seller , buyer and to a paying bank.

Checking of( import and export ) container packing :-
We were checking :
Breakage
Moisture
Pilferage
Excess weight
Buyers are often familier with the port system overseas, so they will often specify
packaging requirement. If the buyer doesn’t specify this , be sure the goods are
prepared using these guide line:-
Pack in strong container , adequately sealed and filled when possible.
To provide proper bracing in the container , regardless of size , make sure the weight in
evenly distributed.
Goods should be palletized and when possible containerized.
Checking of labeling of (export and import) shipment :-
Specific marking and labeling is used on export and import cartons and containers
Meet shipping regulation
Ensure proper handling
Conceal the identity of the contents
Help receives identity shipment
Insure compliances with environmental and safety standards.

4. Exporter need to put the following marking on cartoon to be shipped:-
Shipper ‘ s mark
Country of origin
Weight marking
Number of packages and size of cases
Handling marks
Port of entry
Documentation:-
Bill of lading :- is a control between the owner of the goods and the carrier . for vessel
,there are two types :staright bill of lading which is non negotiable and a negotiable or
shipper’s order bill of lading.latter it can be bought ,sold or traded while goods are in
transit.
Commercial invoice:-is a bill for the goods from seller to the buyer . these invoice are
often used by government to determine the value of goods when assessing customs
duties.
Certificate of origin :-is a documents that is required in certain nations.it is signed
statement as to the origin of the export item. Certificate of origin are usually signed
through a semi official organization such as a local chamber of commerce.
Inspection certificate ;-is required by some purchases and countries in order to attest to
the specification of the good shipped.
Dock receipt:- and a warehouse receipt are used to transfer accountability when the
export item is moved by the domestic carriers to the port
Packing list:-
An insurance certificate is used to assure the consignee that insurance will cover the loss
of or damage to the cargo during transit.

5. AFTER THE IGM DUTY DELIVERED THE UNLOADING TAKE PLACE UNDER THE SUPERVISOR OF
PREVENTIVE OFFICER OF CUSTOMS.THE PREVENTIVE OFFICER ARE AUTHORIZED TO BOARD THE
VESSEL/AIRCRAFT TO TAKE SUITABLE DECLARATION,CREW PROPERTY LIST ETC. AND TO CHECK
WHETHER THERE ARE ANY GOODS WHICH ARE NOT DECLARED FOR UNLOADING AT A
PATICULAR CUSTOMS STATION IN THE IGM WITH INTENTION TO SMUGGLE THEM WITHOUT
FOLLOWING THE PRESCRIBED FORMALITIES AND PAYMENT OF DUTIES.
CUSTOMS CLEARANCE OF CARGO:-
BEFORE ANY GOODS IMPORTED CAN BE CLEARED BY FOR HOMECONSUMPTION OR
WAREHOUSING FOR SUBSEQUENT CUSTOMS CLEARANCE.
