I didn't want to revisit such a painful part of my past, much less do so in such a public forum.
However, I yearned for closure and understood I'd only find it by returning to the place where all
the wounds were inflicted. While I expected it to hurt, I could never have imagined just how much.
"It still looks beautiful from the air," I said to acclaimed talk–show host Alan Queen, as we flew
over what remained of the Jamestown settlement in Northwest Guyana. It was November 18, 2013,
thirty–five years to the day since my father, The Reverend John James orchestrated the mass murder
/suicide that lead to the deaths of more than nine hundred friends, comrades and family members.
Water raced down my cheeks as we made our final...show more content...
"I know it's an emotional topic, but try to keep it clean." "Sorry," Clifton replied. "Anyway, I
think this phony loved being Dad's little enforcer." I was dazed, like I'd been blindsided by an
uppercut from Mike Tyson. I was lied to, on the ropes and not prepared to counter. "All the
catharsis meetings," he said. "You know, when you, Mother, Dad and whatever mistress he chose
to showcase before the community and humiliated, even physically abused us." I couldn't argue. It
was all true, so I deemed it best to sit back, listen and continue to absorb whatever crap he wanted
to sling my way. I kept my head down, but that didn't stop Queen from prancing forward, kneeling
before me and shoving the mic in my face. "Seth?" he asked. "Care to respond?" What I wanted to
do was lunge forward, pummel Queen into a coma and string him up by his nuts for betraying my
trust, but managed to maintain enough self–control and instead, shifted my focus to Clifton. "Sean,
if you paid attention to any of those interviews," I replied, in a snarky manner. "I said my father
was a crazy, evil man. I admit, some of my actions were bad, but I don't think you could imagine
what it was like being his only biological child."

Okay, this is going to sound really cheesy and you probably won't agree with it but still please
read it. This afternoon, I had a 2km race and I ran really well, close to my PB but with 500m to
go, these people were walking by (It was at Stuart Park) and started swearing at me and the people
around me and yelling at us about why we would do such a thing as running (to put lightly) and
that only crazy people would do it. (To put even more lightly) and it kinda reminded me of you
guys and how you don't like running and think I' weird for doing it. I know you aren't mean about
it but I'm still just going to tell you why I like to run. Firstly, when you are out on the road alone,
especially when it is raining or at night, you feel like you are so strong, that everyone else is
sitting inside doing nothing and you are the only person actually pushing your body. When you
train, it hurts, but when you finish, you feel so good because you know you are getting stronger
and you are so proud because you know your body complained and told you to stop but you kept
on going and you fought yourself. It is true that you yourself are your worst enemy. Secondly, in a
race, you feel so nervous before and you live every moment. At nationals I was so nervous. I got
to the stage when I would have preferred to die than run. I was scared of what people would say
to me if I failed, if I didn't do as well as everybody expected me too, I was afraid of the pain
because I knew I was expected to push myself so hard to at least a vomiting stage. I was so
nervous because of the way I had trained. That whole year, I had trained nearly everyday, pushing
myself so hard all the time and ran competitions vomiting in most, all for this moment, everything
counted on this single race. And I was nervous I would stuff it up. Like I think I've mentioned
before, for a whole 2 years, almost every time I ran, I would finish and half an hour later i would
get a migraine that would last for at least 2 hours. You know how much I train and I was getting
this nearly every time. It sucks knowing that before a run, you are going to kill yourself and feel
even worse when you finish. There is no award, just pain. When I first started running, I hated it. I

Credit Card Debt
ATTENTION GAINER:
I am going to need some audience participation. Everyone take a $5, $10, or $20 dollar bill out.
How many of you are willing to rip your money up? You probably wouldn't do it and think this is
crazy, but we throw money away like this in the name of our car, television, or shoes every month.
Let me give you an example.
SIGNIFICANCE (ATLEAST 1 SOURCE):
Let's say you owe $1000 on your credit card and you have a minimum payment due of $25 and you
are being charged 19% interest. How long do you think it would take you to pay it off by just
making the minimum payments? The answer is 7 years according to the February 2005 issue of
University Wire. And for the first year you...show more content...

more and more money. Once his limits grew he was able to spend more, which caused his
payments to increase as well. Why did he have so many credit cards? Well, what he was doing was
taking out new cards in order to pay off others. As time when on, he started receiving numerous
letters and telephone calls threatening legal action. Unfortunately he didn't see a way out of this out
of control debt and decided to end his life as evidenced by the February 2005 issue of Daily Mail.
TRANSITION:
Now that you have a better understanding of the risky business of owning credit cards, let us
examine who is to blame?
CAUSE (ATLEAST 2 SOURCES):
First, we must blame ourselves for letting this debt build up. It's so easy to just say "charge it"
and deal with the money later. It's so much more convenient to use a credit card then using our
cash. In the April 2005 issue of University Wire, Dr. James Roberts conducted a study about the
spending habits of students around the country. He found that students who used credit cards to
pay for their books weren't able to tell within $30, $40, or even $50 dollars of how much they spent
compared to the students who used cash and were able to tell within a few dollars how much they

Topic: Organ Donation
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to
act upon their decision to donate.
Thesis Statement: The need is constantly growing for organ donors and it is very simple to be an
organ donor when you die.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Attention material/Credibility Material: How do you feel when you have to wait for something
you really, really want? What if it was something you couldn't live without? Well, my cousin was

2) The reason is that there are only on the average 6,000 donors nationally per year (Life Source:
Statistics).
c. You can choose to donate any needed organs or you can specify which organs or tissues you wish
to donate.
2. Organ donation is very important.
a. The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ
donation.
"Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a
woman. Give my heart to a person whose heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain... Take
my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child
walk...Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at
the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window
b. Not only is this a problem nationally but also it is a big problem right here at home in Colorado.
1) Nationally, there are over 120,000 people waiting as of November 1, 2011. As of November 7,
2011, there are 1,142 people from Colorado that are on the organ waiting list (Life Source: Statistics).
2) The sad part is that there have only been 137 donors in Colorado so far from January 2011
through November 2011 (Life Source: Newsnotes).

There are three types of persuasive speeches. There are speeches of Value, Fact, and Policy. The
first one speeches of Value are when speaker tries to convince listeners that their personal value
judgment is true through the way they use their words or tone. In speeches of value, we argue
about whether something is right or wrong and moral or immoral. Just like you would do with
questions of fact, you can create your main points by asking a strategic question in your thesis of
"Why is this good?" or "Why is this moral?" The answers to this question will give you the speech's
main points. We will use "Euthanization of dogs is inhumane" The organization will be Topical

For example, in a "Euthanization is inhumane" speech, you might make your first main point to
define when an it can be considered inhumane or what makes it inhumane. In most cases though it
would be made clear what you mean by inhumane or moral or good. But in cases where it isn't you
can include what you mean by it, or saying inhumane, in your introduction or in your first main
point. You will want to take in consideration what type ofaudience you're speaking to. Whether it be
a animal rights group, PETA, people who don't even know what euthanization means, approach this
subject with some sensitivity. You as the speaker are not asking the audience to do anything about
it but just to believe that it's not a humane thing to do. The next type of persuasive speech is the
speech of fact. With any of these speeches you will need a thesis. Begin with a thesis that states that
something can be proven, that it happened or didn't happen. Usually the material used in the speech
should be and will be presented with an organization of topical order. It's very important to consider
the evidence being presented cautiously. Ask if it is even possible that the observations actually

Regardless of whether Nationwide "Victoria" was covering the costs for O.E.M parts for my lost

abundant amount of time that passed before liability was accepted and a rental car bill almost
exceeding the amount of damages. Once the repair order was prepared Friday, I immediately visited
"Jackie Mauldin's" to retrieve some personal items from my vehicle, and to discuss the repair work.
In doing so I made the staff (2 clerks, one office gentleman, and an older lady) aware that I had
purchased most of the needed parts myself. The older lady walked me to my car, and while doing
so I made her aware I only needed to wait on my headlight and discussed with her my concerns for
the bumper being replaced instead of repaired. Monday 3/14/16 I dropped off my bumper cover.
While doing so, I asked for a revised estimate which resulted in my estimate receiving notes from

15. Persuasive Speech On English Language
Ever since the dawn of mankind, some form of language has been used to communicate with one
another. Language and the ability to speak to one another to get things done is what I believe makes
humankind the most sophisticated species on the planet. However, over the last few hundred years,
one language in particular has become one of the most universally taught subjects: English. With
several hundred, or maybe even thousands of languages being spoken by nearly seven billion people
today, English has become the method of communication across several different countries and
cultures. If, for example, English wasn't adopted as a globally respected language, then it would
make communicating with other cultures very difficult. Don't get me...show more content...
Whether we are trying to communicate across several countries or simplifying documents and

believe instilling a global language can help us achieve all of the above. Both my mother's and
my father's side of the family migrated from Cuba to Miami in the late 50's, early 60's. When I
was born my parents had to work during the day, so my grandmother, Aba, used to always take
care of me, and since she migrated from Cuba, she mainly spoke Spanish with knowledge in only
a few English words. When Aba passed away in 2001, I went to a family friend who also
prominently spoke Spanish. Today, at the age of 18, I can proudly say that those five first years of
life did not prepare me enough for Spanish, since I am mostly an English–bred Hispanic. Sure, I can
start a simple conversation and maybe talk Spanish for a little, but overall, I am known as the
family "gringo," which is a harsh way of saying I can't speak Spanish. This hasn't just happened to
me. Phillip M. Carter, a professor of linguistics at the FIU Department of English, has found that
Miami is undergoing what is known as a "language shift." The shift means that Miami is becoming
less in touch with its Spanish–speaking roots and is turning to more English–based communication.

17. Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech in America is defined by the right to express any opinions without any
censorship or restraint. But it isn't just defined by the words people speak aloud. It's the actions
they take part in to support the words they express. The writing of books and essays, creating
artwork, giving speeches to grand crowds, voting, protesting. But do all people have the right to
speak their mind? Should people be able to speak freely, to express opinions and thoughts, as
promised in the United States constitution? A controversial topic, with many different opinions
weighing in from around the world.

With all these truths, and the freedom to speak them, comes the question of who should hold the
power and ability to speak their minds. In the United States, our society believes everyone should
have the right to freedom of speech, to voice thoughts and opinions. Written down in the
constitution is the promise to citizen rights, to all peoples who want to exercise those rights. "It
was we the people; not we, the white male citizens," who built up our nation and society, and the
promise to freedom of speech (Anthony, par. 4). Women, children, teens, those of color should all
be able to speak freely, to give shape to the opinions they hold like all the empowered men that
speak freely. Not all governments and nations feel the same about this. In Singapore, they have their
"own standards of social order as reflected in [their] laws" (Reyes, par. 3). Different nations feel
differently about human rights and laws as presented by the United States, including freedom of
speech, whether it is safe for everyone to speak their minds or just best to keep it to those who are
fed lies from those of a higher position.
With freedom of speech can come violence, a common reason for nations and governments to deny
this right. Some societies, such as Singapore, agree that by enforcing certain laws that abide the
government keep said nation "orderly and relatively crime–free" (Reyes, par. 3). Freedom of speech

Beginning in 1984, a nonprofit called TED was started with a mission to spread ideas. The most
important way this nonprofit spreads ideas is through short and powerful talks conducted by

Each speaker when talking about their topic uses different elements to make their speech effective.
Some speeches are more effective than others because of the elements they utilize. Lizzie Velasquez
is a TED talk speaker, who tells the story her life to inspire others. In Lizzie Velasquez's talk, "How
to define yourself?" she captures the audience's attention using many strategies and provoking them

During Lizzie Velasquez's talk, her main claim is that people can be successful using the

Lizzie Velasquez talks about how defeated and frustrated she felt with her identity during her
