that is happening now and has not
been solved.
 Your best option is something that
needs to be built as this gives the best
option to look at solutions
This achievement standard involves
analysing aspects of a contemporary
geographic issue.

3. Analyse comprehensively aspects of a
contemporary geographic issue involves:
• fully explaining how people’s values and perceptions of
the issue have led to their responses
• proposing a suitable course of action to address the issue
and providing a full justification of the solution showing
insight.
• The full justification is an in-depth response that uses
clarity of argument and holistic understanding to
demonstrate why one course of action is better than the
alternatives.

4. • Do some research –
• What is going on in the local area, in Auckland or
somewhere that I can get info on.
•Choose an issue to present
• Some ideas are;
• The Lake rd Cycle Lanes – stay or go ?, Queens
Wharf, The Container Terminal, The Masonic,
Takapuna Campground, Countdown
supermarket on Lake Rd, Milford apartments…
So what do I do now ?

5. • Research 2 solutions to the issue,
choose one as the best.
• Find Strengths and weaknesses of
each of the options – with specific
information eg costs, groups
affected, roads, lakes, rivers
affected.
Then

6.  Create a powerpoint to present the
information to one of the GeoTeachers
as your assessment, this will have NO
ANIMATION or noises on it.
 This is to back up what you are saying
you will not be marked on the quality of
your powerpoint, its what you are saying
that counts.
Now…

7. • Intro slide; background
• How its Geographic , concept, map, effects
• Options to solve - 1,2
• People’s opinions on the issue – 4 people or
groups, what their opinion is and why they feel
that way.
• Make a recommendation – why its better than
the other with comparisons of strengths and
weaknesses included
