Introduction, Concept and Justification of Project :Amla (Phyllanthus Emblica) is one of the most valuable Indian Medicinal
plants with antioxidant properties and very rich sources of vitamin „C‟. Amla as fruit can
be used raw or in a processed form as juice, candy, pickle, chatni, murabba or in dried
form as powder. The versatility of its usage, therefore, makes it amenable to
consumption in different forms.
In view of the afore said properties the National Medicinal Plants Board,
Govt. of India has launched a new scheme “National Campaign on Amla”. This
scheme aimed to cultivate Amla in the available Public premises, Schools, Colleges,
Government and Private Institutions, Universities, Anganwadis, Prisons and Homestead
Garden by involving different stakeholders. State medicinal Plants Boards, Mizoram was
entrusted to prepare Road Map for the Amla Mission and submit Proposal for seeking
financial assistance from National Medicinal Plants Board, Govt. of India. This Scheme
stressed the promotion on the usages and consumption of Amla in any forms i.e. raw
4
5. form or in a processed forms as juice, candy etc. Processing Unit will be established for
processing the harvested fruits of Amla which will promote the consumption and use of
Amla not only to the students but also to the general public.
Wide publicity on the usage and consumption through electronic and print
media was also emphasized. It is proposed to prepared Leaflets / Brochures in the
vernacular language which will be distributed first to school students in the States, the
same will be given to all Public Libraries, Govt. and Private Hospitals, Guest Houses and
Tourist lodge etc. Hoarding will also be prepared under this scheme and will be
displayed in at least 20 places in the State. Display Advertisement in the local newspaper
will also be published and allocation in district wise in the State will also be made for
wider publication on Amla.
Seedlings (grafted) will be distributed to all Govt. and Private Schools,
Anganwadis, Prisons, Colleges, University, NGOs and Registered stakeholders under
State Medicinal Plants Board. These Institutions will be responsible for site identification
pegging, pit diggings, planting and weeding etc. for Amla cultivations. As there is a
provision of Rs. 2/- per seedling for maintenance cost per year, this fund would be given
to the Institutions and Stakeholders according to their Nos. of seedlings planted at the
premises and garden respectively.
Awareness Campaign and Competition amongst student will be organised
by the School Education Department and Higher & Technical Education Department.
The allocated fund for this activity will be released to the above Departments. The
calendar of activity for this part has been prepared. This activity will be carried out on
Sub – Divisional and District wise. The concerned Sub-Divisional Education Officer and
District Education Officer will implement the campaign based on the calendar on the
activity for Awareness Campaign and Competition among student. Accordingly Higher
& Technical Education Department will also implement the Amla campaign by
conducting Awareness Campaign and Competition amongst student.
For the effective implementation of this Scheme it is proposed to impart
one day Training of Trainers – Training. All the Sub – Divisional Education Offices,
District Education Offices and Colleges shall nominate one participant i.e. Officer/
Science Teacher for such training who would be trained to have ability, knowledge and
apprenticeship to conduct Awareness Campaign and Competition amongst student under
their jurisdiction, which would have beneficial impact for the wide publicity on the
campaign.

with support staff for the effective implementation and monitoring of the activities taken
