"Tell us about the last days of Jesus Christ," was the inquiry put forth to the aged man, who
stroked his beard with his head bowed.
Slowly raising his head, the corner of his mouth curled up slightly to reveal a bit of amusement
with the question; yet, his eyes expressed his tenderness and his genuine desire to answer that
question unto God's greatest glory. He spoke slowly and deliberately, having a face like weathered
granite and voice like gravel, "Were you referring to His last days prior to His crucifixion?"
Preparing to answer affirmatively, the young man barely opened his mouth to speak when the old
man spoke again, asking, "Or did you mean His last days on earth, after His resurrection and
before His ascension into heaven?" The surprised look on the young man's face did not hinder the
old sage for a moment, as he continued, "Or, were you referring to the 'last days' spoken of by the
New Testament apostles, meaning the days of the building of Christ's church until Jesus Christ
returns?"
Many people consider that the last days of Jesus Christ only deals with His last days prior to His
death upon a Roman cross. Yet, the Bible presents that the "last days" of Christ may refer to a
number of things, as the old man implies above. Is the old man crazy or correct? What does it
mean when we refer to the last days of Christ?
We will have to consider this article an introduction of sorts; a teaser, if you will, because in order
to approach the topic of "The Last Days of Christ," we must also consider these particular issues:
Is Christ God? Or rather, was Jesus of Nazareth merely a man who was a good teacher? The
answers to those questions will determine whether Jesus Christ of Nazareth is eternal deity or not.
If He is eternal God, His eternal nature will certainly have implications on Christ's "last" days.
Are the sixty-six books of the Bible God's inspired revelation of Himself to humanity; or is the Bible
written by man as poetic expressions of primitive philosophies? Perhaps it is something else
entirely different. Whether or not the Bible is very truth will also determine how we interpret the last
days of Christ.
We also need to explore our own personal salvation as it pertains to Christ. If Christ came to save
men from their sins, if one has faith in Christ, he or she will have quite a different outlook from one
who has no faith in Christ at all.
My prayer is, as we dig into these particular issues, that the truth of Christ will be revealed, and as
it is, we may grow in grace and be strengthened in faith for God's greatest glory.
