5. Summarise the previous teaching week
Last week’s teaching notes offer an introduction to the listening component of the IELTS
Academic exam. The IELTS Academic and IELTS General listening exams use the
same official exam preparation materials. The structure and format of the IELTS
Academic and General listening exams is identical. You may confirm this claim at the
web link below.
You should always consult official IELTS sources to confirm details about the content
and format of this exam. This is a good habit to form early. Please be warned that some
details about the IELTS exam that are stated on non-official IELTS web pages are
incorrect.

Our presentation this week aims to arrange paired speaking/listening sessions with your
tutors via Skype and/or the telephone. This includes general meet-and-greet discussion
as well as practicing official IELTS listening questions.

Please watch at least one of these YouTubes presentations before you proceed to the
next subsection of these notes (i.e. part 8., below). These YouTubes presentation are
replicas of the IELTS listening exam. If you listen to both full practice sets, you will be
able to notice the core structures that recur in the IELTS listening exam.
8. Topic discussion - further detail
You will have access this week to three tutors. This include a mix of male and female
voices as well as different accents.

The interaction with your tutors shall be semi-structured and partially spontaneous. Your
tutors shall work with you to identify your strengths and areas that you need to develop.

You will also be emailed homework based on the outcome of each meeting. This advice
shall be sent within the chatboard email system.

the skills required to successfully take part in the IELTS Academic listening
assessments.

How many official IELTS speaking test replicas videos do you count?
Take notes of which parts of the exam you found difficult. List the reasons that you
found each component/skill difficult. Inform your tutor of your practice tests scores and
the issues in your list.
