The Service Request SR-rm-012 is to establish a financial and accounting system for Riordan Manufacturing. Ultimately, the system should consolidate the general ledger, income statement, and balance sheet sooner than 15 to 20 days. The system will also complete audits that will cost less and less labor intensive. In addition, it is essential that the government receive reporting requirements in a consolidated manner and is in compliance. The Riordan Manufacturing needs update the existing finance accounting system that will work with the business systems and subsystems.
Riordan Manufacturing is broken up in three operating areas in Georgia, Michigan, and California. A joint venture is located in the People’s Republic of China. Each area has its own Finance & Accounting System. Uploads are sent to the corporate office in San Jose for consolidation. The components of the system are: General Ledger. Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable,Order Entry, Procurement, Sales and Purchasing History,Invoicing and ShippingPayrollFinancial ReportingEDIBar Code ReadingEDSS (Executive Decision Support System)Needed Business SystemsThe F & A systems located in Michigan and Georgia compatibility issues have not been addressed. The F & A System will need either to be replaced or to find a way to be able to consolidate all systems. Another issue is San Jose has a Windows based ERP manufacturing, Michigan has a software application and the code is for the F & A and process application, the application also runs on a pair of DEC Alpha’s on a VMS OS, VAX4000 workstations, and programmed in C. Now to top it off Georgia has a different vendor from the one in Michigan and this system runs on a pair of AS400’s, utilizing UNIX operating system, PC’s (Windows) as workstations and its program is RPG400
The retention of Litteral & Fink works well since the firm has representation all over the world. All decisions funneling through one person could eventually lead to a bottle neck should he not be available at a critical moment.
Riordan can achieve their goals by increasing their sales to their existing customers by providing sales force promotions, price discounts, and customer user group services. They should extend their sales to new customers by expanding public relations activities, trade shows, brand development and sales force promotions.
All of the systems that Riordan utilizes are effective for the growth of the company; however, the need for a customer relation system is required in order to continue growth of the efficiency of the company.
