2. Pull-out quote – The pull-out quote in this
double page uses a two combined colours
white and yellow to attract the target
audience which I believe is done successfully
because the more colourful the text is, the
more it would appeal to a human eye. I
would probably use this idea of colouring for
my pull-out quote and even my
headline, but the text is too big so the
audience would find easier to envisage the
pull-out quote rather than the headline
which makes the headlines less important.
Headline – The headline for this double spread is
on the first page of the spread and states “FIASCO
@ 9:30” which links to the main image (a picture
of Lupe Fiasco) and informs the reader who the
article is going to be based on. The audience are
drawn towards the headline only because it’s the
largest piece of text in the spread larger than the
body copy so the audience are notified about
what the topic of the magazine is going to be
about.
Byline – The byline credits the article
claiming who it was written by. The size of
the byline is the same size as the body copy
but sits right beside the headline which
could mean that when the audience are
reading the headline they could see who the

3. This double page spread consists of
two articles which are both linked
meaning the two pages would be
packed with loads of information.
The image on the first page of Ja
Rule and others shows a good
degree of composition which is rare
comparing this double page spread
to the last one I’ve researched
containing Lupe Fiasco.
Since both pages are bombarded
with photos (including the photo of
Chris Gotti), the audiences would
easily be attracted to reading the
articles which is topped off with the
headlines on both of the pages
relating to jail. The headline on the
second page which is based on
Chris Gotti is quite alarming as it is
filled with bright colours, yellow
and white with the article being of
the same colour.
The layout of the article consists of
three columns on the first page and
three on the second page, but
because the articles is supposed to

4. Like the DPS which features Lupe
Fiasco, the designer of this DPS has
made an image of the rapper
Birdman sit on the first page by itself
with the pull-out quote of the article
being the only text in that page. The
reader would pick up on this and
would read the pull-out quote as its
an isolated piece of text and if they
find it interesting they would read
the article to see what the pull-out
quote actually means.
We know because of the picture and
the heading that this article is all to
do with Birdman and it seems as
though the writer is focusing the
article on his life, hence the pull-out
quote stating “THE YOUNG WORLD
LOOK AT ME HOW I USED TO LOOK AT
THE ONES WHO DID IT BEFORE ME”.
The pull-out quote is narrating how
Birdman’ life was when he was young
and we know that the article could
