The Role Of A Teacher In The 21st Century
The role of the teacher in the 21st century education consists of the teacher demonstrating leadership
among the staff and with the administration–bringing consensus and common, shared ownership of
the school's vision and purpose. It is important for the teacher to make the instructional content
engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students' lives; teach core content that includes critical
thinking, problem solving, addition to information and communications technology (ICT) literacy;
and facilitate instruction encouraging all students to use 21st century skills so they discover how to
learn, innovate, collaborate, and communicate their ideas. In addition, teachers are to ensure the 21st
century content (global awareness, civic literacy, financial literacy, and health awareness) is included
in the core content areas; make certain subjects and related projects are integrated among disciplines
and involving relationships with the home and community. Teacher are also to reflect about their
practice by including assessments that are authentic and structured and demonstrate student
understanding and demonstrate the value of lifelong learning as well as encourage their students to
learn and grow. The evaluation process for teachers includes the following components:

When I first come to Saint Cloud High School, I was uncertain of how I would fit into the world
of education as a teacher, in fact, this was my first teaching practice. After completing a few
observations, I changed my view and recognized my teaching abilities. I was able to learn many
different things that will be helpful to me when I become a certified teacher someday. Although I
could face many possible challenges in the classroom, I have many of the strengths it takes to be

My Dream As A Teacher
My dream is to become a Teacher so that I can encourage and influence young children to reach
their full potential no matter what circumstances they come from. When I started first grade my
family had just moved to Conroe Texas, so I started out with no friends coming to a new city and
new school. Thankfully I got the best teacher in the whole first grade at Geisinger Elementary.
Her name is Mrs. Thompson. She was the teacher that always greeted us at the door and when we
came into her classroom it felt like home. I was always comfortable in her classroom by the way
it was decorated and the way she made me feel. She always had something nice to say and never
put any of the students in the class down! She loves her students like her own. The next year she
moved to second grade and I got her as a teacher again. I was so thankful to have such a wonderful
first and second grade teacher and her mannerisms throughout those two years is what sparked my
interest in being that teacher, that inspires her students and makes them feel comfortable in the
classroom. The purpose of education to me is so that we are all knowledgeable in what we are doing
and saying. If everyone went around and talked about something without knowing true facts or
history we would be in trouble! The reason we learn about history is because it repeats itself. We
learn it so that we could stop the repeating factors before they happen!
The role of the teacher is to be a role model, someone to look up to. Young children always refer to
what their teacher says no matter if its Mom, Dad, or Grandma. That is because the students spend
all day for one hundred and eighty days with their teacher, of course the students are going to look
up to that person! Teachers are also the facilitator oflearning. The teacher should set up the
classroom to give the students a successful work environment and provide assistance, guidance and

As an educator you get faced with the task everyday whether or not it is your responsibility to
teach moral values and to develop good character traits in students in your classroom. What people
do not realize is that teaching is much more than just the information in the textbooks and for that
reason, I do believe that it is the educator's job to teach moral values and to develop good character

During my high school years, there were several teachers that I encountered. However, there was
one teacher whom I shall never forget. In fact, he would be very difficult to forget, even if he
were only remembered for his size, for he was an enormous man. His name is Anthony Sweeney
of "Sugar Butty" my third form math teacher. To this point, I never knew the exact reason for
such name but all students referred to him in such manner. He was six feet five inches tall and
towered over us like a giant and he weighed over three hundred pounds. I never discovered his
exact age, but, he must have been no more than forty, even though his hair had turned grey
relatively early on, and there was a smooth shiny bald patch on the crown of his head. But, it is not
just for his size that I remembered him. In fact, one of the things with I remembered distinctively
was his sudden change in temper. One moment he would be very jovial and pleasant to speak to in
class, and the next he would shout violently at some timid student who was merely looking through
the window or he would become very mean and impatient with his students. For these reason, he
became my absolute worst teacher.

generosity and kindness when he offered to buy breakfast or lunch for the less fortunate. However,
his constant anger and aggression was evident daily; and there was no need to make him angrier
than he already was. He also treated us as though we were incapable of learning and we were
absolutely terrified of him. Hence, the entire year of math class was a nightmare as it was filled with

Being that I plan to teach elementary school and deal with small children, I plan to be excessive on
classroom accessories. Children have a limited attention span and a dull, plain room would not be
appealing to them. The adjustment of leaving "mommy" will be hard enough for them anyway. I
hope to make the environment comforting and welcoming for them. Bright colored bulletin boards
and posters with needed information on them. I would like my students seated around the room in a
circle. From experience, I've found that children feel more at ease and apt to speak up when seated
this way.
I believe the teacher should be authoritative, especially in the lower grades. The students need to
know who is in charge and feel that there is someone of authority to look up to. Still yet, I want the
children to feel a sense of authority, to make decisions and play a leadership role. Possibly, let one
child be "leader of the day" each day; for example, lead the lines or pass out the papers.

My Dream As A Teacher
From a young age I have always wanted to teach and inspire others to learn. This was heavily
influenced by my upbringing as my dad has always taught me that you can never have too much
information and any new skill you learn is a new skill you can use. I enjoy sharing my knowledge
