Mental health has always been identified as one of the main areas for action in the National Health
Priority Areas (National Health and Medical Research Council 2016), and depression is one of the
most prevalent chronic conditions amongst the young Australians (Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare 2017). Depression is a debilitating condition that substantially impairs individuals' ability
to function and cope with their daily life due to the experience of negative feelings (NHMRC
2016). Also, depression and suicidality have a close correlation as eighty percent of reported
suicide incident was due to the burden of depression (World Health Organization 2017), and suicide
is the second leading cause of death in youths in Australia (Reddy 2010). Moreover, depression can

For my research project, I would like to show the evolution of gender equality that has occurred in
American society in the workplace. The disparity of status and privileges between men and women
has existed since the end of the World War II. Although America has made progress concerning the
acceptance of social issues such as same sex relationship and marriage, people are still unwilling to
acknowledge that gender inequality is still rampant among our society. Gender equality hasn't
been achieved yet, particularly in corporate America that has an insignificant number of women
in the upper ranks; fewer women occupy a post of chief executive officer, chief financial officer,

Jonathan Swift wrote a modest proposal to parliament. He addressed the problem of over
population and famine in Ireland. The solution was presented in a satire manner and rightfully
so. He proposed to eat babies to make them beneficial to the public. Swift used hyperbole and
sarcasm to justify his argument. Swift Uses a hyperbole in paragraph ten "...a child just born will
weigh twelve pounds..." in a tie when everybody is starving and poor it is almost impossible for

After years more of complaining, they decided to add a parking garage to their campus. Although
this garage eliminated 200 spaces, it added 613. The price of this garage was $5.5 million. Arkansas
State used the parking deck, as well as the reserved parking system to help alleviate their situation.
Many other campuses utilize the same systems, such as: University of Cincinnati, University of
Iowa, University of Louisville, University of Pittsburgh, University of South Florida, University of
Tennessee, University of Wisconsin, and many more.
There are currently only a handful of reserved spaces on campus, and the ground has yet to be
broken for the construction of the parking deck. In fact, Winthrop University does not even have
all the funds needed to build this parking deck. When I approached Jack Allen, of Campus Police,
with my idea of reserved parking spaces, he told me that he thought it was a good idea. Walter
Hardin, when given the same idea, seemed to think that the reserved parking system would not
realistically work out but was open to the proposal.
PROPOSED PROJECT
I am planning to find the funding needed to establish reserved parking at Winthrop University
through Campus Police and the current traffic and parking system. Hopefully, Winthrop University
and Campus Police will recognize the need and responsibility to fund these reserved parking spaces.

Homeless Assistance Programs, Populations, and Subpopulations, 2014).Wayside Christian Mission

the Journal of General Internal Medicine, a majority of homeless individuals surveyed stated that
they felt discriminated against or that they received lesser care because of their poverty or

from high rates of depression, psychiatric illness, alcohol and or substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, TB,

In Search Of A Modest Proposal Summary
In Fred Stenson's "In Search of a Modest Proposal" the author states, using his daughter's first essay
assignment as an example, that essays are inherently personal and should reflect the author's own
ideas, and that essay curriculums are flawed in their formulaic approach to teaching what is
supposed to be a creative form of writing. Stenson's essay uses a liberal amount of sarcasm to get his
point across, and coupled with a reliance on personal examples his overall argument loses some
efficacy. However, most of hisirony and sarcasm are effective in their emotional appeals, and when
coupled with more convincing examples and reference to authority that directly support his claim,
they make for a compelling debate that is hard to refute.
Stenson's essay begins fairly weak in terms of argumentative points, with him telling the story of his
daughter learning to write her first essay. The story does serve to establish Stenson's passion for
essays and the written form, which, along with his pre–established credibility as an author, helps to
support his claims by giving Stenson a recognizable figure of authority on the subject of writing.
However, Stenson then uses this credibility he has established to make sarcastic remarks throughout

LITERATURE REVIEW The general theory of crime is relatively new and controversial theory in
the realm of criminology. Micheal Gottfredson and Travis Hirschi published A General Theory of
Crime in 1990 and it went on to become the second most cited book in the entire 1990s (Pratt and
Cullen, 2000). Their theory is based on the argument, not unlike Hirschi's social bonding theory that
criminal activity is gratifying and the key to understanding participation in crime is discovering what
prevents people from breaking the law. They contend that committing crime and other analogous
behaviors (drinking, gambling, drug use, reckless driving, and unsafe sexual practices) start

Cody introduced in an introduction to A Modest Proposal. For the senior project I will be
introducing the topic of poverty and class issue during A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. In
1729, Ireland was poverty–stricken and well under the impression that there wasn't people who
were able to provide for themselves. The writer portrays a sense of sympathy and the need for a
solution during the 18th century. As a result, Jonathan Swift wrote A Modest Proposal claiming an
indication that in order for families in Ireland to live a standard, comfortable life style they would
have to kill the children of the poor and feed them to Ireland's rich land–owners. This idea was
brought up to view the fear of overpopulation, limiting rights of the Irish and the effect of penal laws
during the 18th century and in A Modest Proposal.
As Swift is satirically writing, he introduces an idea that brings up a religious aspect as well as a
fear of over population in Ireland. Immediately, Jonathan Swift conveys a plain argument that is
supposed to help the people of Ireland; with the intention of killing the Irish's children so that they

issues but does so in a well–constructed and carefully composed manner. A closer reading of the
text reveals a deeper critical analysis of the social perceptions of the poor at the time. Through
Swifts' use of irony, he creates a proposal that is so extremely absurd that some may believe the
piece to be genuine. By taking an issue and providing a corrupt and merciless solution, the writer
uses a unique approach to catch the attention of the people of Ireland and presents them a proposal
they cannot ignore. Through the use of irony, Swift creates a poem that not only criticizes social
perceptions of the poor but also remarks upon the issue without directly addressing the reader.
Beginning with an examination of the subtitle, the stance of the narrator and his views of the poor
