Understanding the CCBA™ Designation Helping Business Do Business Better July 2010
Michael Gladstone Michael Gladstone is Vice President, Certification & Chief Information Officer (CIO) of International Institute of Business Analysis.  In his Certification role, Michael is responsible for the vision, development and management of Certification programs for IIBA. As CIO, Michael is responsible for IIBA IT Applications and Infrastructure.   Previously, Michael was Senior Manager, Business Analysis & Quality Assurance at Meridian Credit Union, responsible for developing the BA and QA practices and overseeing BA and QA activities across the organization.   Michael is a graduate of York University with a BSc. in Computer Science and the Schulich School of Business with an MBA. 3 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Suzanne Bertschi Suzanne is the Product Manager of Certification for IIBA . In this role, Suzanne is accountable for the operational management of the certification and re-certification         programs.  Previously, Suzanne was a Sr. Business Systems Consultant at Sun Life Financial, responsible for business analysis and, for business analysis process improvement, training and coaching. Suzanne has over 14 years of experience in the financial services industry and in IT.  Suzanne has a BComm degree from Carleton University.  4

CCBA™ Designation – New  Currently Under Development For individuals who are proficient in some aspects of business analysis, are in the process of developing business analysis skills and expertise, and apply business analysis to smaller scope and less complex tasks. CCBA™ Designation – New  Currently Under Development Stepping stone to obtaining the CBAP® designation Provides recognition for individuals who have business analysis experience but do not meet the requirements for the CBAP® designation. CCBA™ Designation – Benefits  For the Individual Recognizes individuals who have invested in their BA careers and encourages them to keep doing so. Provides individuals with personal satisfaction of accomplishing a milestone in their BA careers. Improves overall performance, removes uncertainty and widens market opportunities. CCBA™ Designation – Benefits  For the Organization Provides advancement and recognition opportunities for staff Demonstrates to customers, competitors, suppliers, staff and investors the use of industry-standard practices. Demonstrates to stakeholders that the business is run effectively. CCBA™ Designation Requirements Minimum 3,750 hours of BA work, aligned with the BABOK®  Guide, in the last 7 years. These hours must include EITHER: 900 hours in 2 out of 6 BABOK®Guide Knowledge Areas, 	OR 500 hours in 4 out of 6 BABOK®Guide Knowledge Areas Minimum 21 hours of Professional Development in the last 4 years Minimum high school diploma or equivalent Two professional references  Signed Code of Conduct Successful completion of the CCBA™ Exam 16 © International Institute of Business Analysis
CCBA™ Designation Expiry There is no recertification for the CCBA™ designation.  The CCBA™ designation expires 5 years from the certification date IIBA expects most CCBA™ recipients will seek the CBAP® designation by the time their CCBA™ designation expires CCBA recipients will need to reapply to write the latest version of the CCBA™ exam. 17 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Certification Process Candidate submits an application for certification. The application must include: Application form and application fee References Code of Conduct form Application is reviewed in accordance with the Certification Body guidelines to determine if the candidate meets all the requirements If approved, the candidate pays the examination fee and registers to take the exam Candidate takes the exam Candidate is notified of the result 18 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Certification Fees Initial fees $125 USD application fee that is non-refundable $325 USD exam fee for IIBA members $450 USD exam fee for non-members Rewrite fees $250 USD for IIBA members $375 USD for non-members Candidate must wait 3 months before rewriting the exam 19 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Work Experience Business Analysis activities must be aligned with the BABOK®Guide. These include: Hands-on business analysis activities Coaching or mentoring of business analysts with respect to business analysis activities Development of business analysis methodology and/or best practices 20 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Work Experience Activities that are not part of the BABOK Guide® definition of a business analyst do not apply. These include: Supervisory management of business analysis activities e.g. resource management, status reporting, performance management Teaching business analysis training courses Selling requirements tools/software Project management Testing Programming 21 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Professional Development Must be personal professional development, not time developing others (e.g., taking a course qualifies, teaching a course does not)  Content must be aligned with the BABOK® Guide Knowledge Areas or Underlying Competencies (e.g., leadership and communication qualifies, but testing, project management and programming courses do not) 22 © International Institute of Business Analysis
Professional Development Criteria for inclusion: Moderated session with a facilitator/instructor who leads the individual/group through the material Measurable learning objectives directly applicable to the role of the Business Analyst (i.e. in terms of either changing behavior, or improving skills)  23 © International Institute of Business Analysis

  • 16. CCBA™ Designation Requirements Minimum 3,750 hours of BA work, aligned with the BABOK® Guide, in the last 7 years. These hours must include EITHER: 900 hours in 2 out of 6 BABOK®Guide Knowledge Areas, OR 500 hours in 4 out of 6 BABOK®Guide Knowledge Areas Minimum 21 hours of Professional Development in the last 4 years Minimum high school diploma or equivalent Two professional references Signed Code of Conduct Successful completion of the CCBA™ Exam 16 © International Institute of Business Analysis
  • 17. CCBA™ Designation Expiry There is no recertification for the CCBA™ designation. The CCBA™ designation expires 5 years from the certification date IIBA expects most CCBA™ recipients will seek the CBAP® designation by the time their CCBA™ designation expires CCBA recipients will need to reapply to write the latest version of the CCBA™ exam. 17 © International Institute of Business Analysis
  • 18. Certification Process Candidate submits an application for certification. The application must include: Application form and application fee References Code of Conduct form Application is reviewed in accordance with the Certification Body guidelines to determine if the candidate meets all the requirements If approved, the candidate pays the examination fee and registers to take the exam Candidate takes the exam Candidate is notified of the result 18 © International Institute of Business Analysis

  • 20. Work Experience Business Analysis activities must be aligned with the BABOK®Guide. These include: Hands-on business analysis activities Coaching or mentoring of business analysts with respect to business analysis activities Development of business analysis methodology and/or best practices 20 © International Institute of Business Analysis
