Environmental sustainability is the process of making sure current processes of interaction with the
environment are pursued with the idea of keeping the environment as pristine as naturally possible
based on ideal–seeking behavior (Wikipedia, 2010). What makes environmental sustainability so
important is that it demands that society designs activities to meet human needs while indefinitely
preserving the life support systems of the planet (Wikipedia, 2010). Human consumption can only
use the nature's resources at a rate that can be replenished naturally.

Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if
our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many

I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce
(includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate the cornfields that feed the cows, and the

consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to
air pollution, the ozone layer is also being consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the
various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels causes
a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other
high–energy radiation from penetrating to the earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified.
The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would

Sovereignty over natural resources and the environment in general In modern international law,
permanent sovereignty over natural resources has come to entail duties as well as rights. There has
been an evolution of permanent sovereignty from a political claim to a principle of international law.
This principle led to debates on people's rights, nationalization, and environmental conservation. The
right of peoples and nations to permanent sovereignty over their natural wealth and resources must
be exercised in the interest of their national development and of the well–being of the people of the
State concerned. The promotion of this principle was the natural manifestation of the ever–present
fear of the developing countries, that the Western World would continue exploiting their natural
resources without conceding them a just and equitable share. This principle[2] was implemented in
our law and is found in both sections 3 and 4[3]. The principle states that the environment is a res

source. Media often rely on information sourced from governmental and private entities rather than

"The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth. In many
parts of the planet, the elderly lament that once beautiful landscapes are now covered with rubbish,"
said Pope Francis, to political leaders (Encyclical Letter Laudato Si, 2015). This statement has
brought the world's attention to the serious problems of pollution and climate crisis, especially
communities in poverty. In 2017, there were six hurricanes worldwide, three of which became major
hurricanes as a result of climate change. Despite the natural disasters that resemble climate change,
anti–environmentalists continue to advocate the idea of slashing funds for the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). These events and environmental justice course challenged the way I saw
the earth and environmental justice. Given these points, this paper presents my reflection of the
course in the following topics, environmental destruction, Trump's decision on cutting the funds for
EPA, and a book that I read called Women and Nature.
Environmental Justice course, consisted of many activities that enhanced my understanding of

Taking a holistic approach to saving the earth, many of today's modern day conservationists focus on
everything from pollution and energy usage to ecological health and peaceful coexistence with the
animal kingdom. In other words, the same ideals are being shared by what is commonly deemed the
ecology movement, green movement, peace movement and environmental movement. It's no
coincidence that one of the most famous groups working in the name of these ideals calls themselves
Green Peace.
Water conservation can be defined as (a) any beneficial reduction in water loss, use or waste as
well as the preservation of water quality, (b) a reduction in water use accomplished by
implementation of water conservation or water efficiency measures or, (c) improved water
management practices that reduce or enhance the beneficial use of water. A water conservation
measure is an action, behavioural change, device, technology, or improved design or process
implemented to reduce water loss, waste, or use. Water efficiency is a tool of water conservation.
That results in more efficient water use and thus reduces water demand. The value and
cost–effectiveness of a water efficiency measure must be evaluated in relation to its effects on the
use and cost of other natural resources (e.g. Energy or chemicals). Water can be conserved in a lot
of ways and most of us are aware of those means. It is our duty to actually implement those in our
daily life.

Statement Of Purpose: AP Environmental Science
I signed up to take AP Environmental Science this year because I was more interested in taking it
than expanding on solely biology or chemistry. This course includes several different fields of study
which is why I thought it would be very interesting and I would learn about several subjects
compared to just one. Before completing any work for this course, my definition of environmental
science would have been, the study of elements of the environment such as climate, soil, and water. I
also would have thought that the term environmentalism meant simply protecting the environment.
The difference between environmental science and environmentalism is that environmental science
is the study of the environment which runs more tests and experiments

Case Study for Environmental Protection
Environmental protection and health concerns are a very important issue in today's world as
humans are corroding the environment at a very high pace. Each individual has a responsibility
towards the environment, as we all are an integral part of the nature. The ethical issues we are facing
towards the nature and environment will depict our future and our future generation's potential. The
ecological and the human health concerns should be the top priority as the extreme use of fossils

PLA proves to be high performing and cost effective substitute to many toxic chemical harmful to the
environment and humans. The ethical dilemma facing the company is whether to export the PLA
from china or continue using the toxic substances like phosphate and polyethylene terephthalate.
The company's principle is to provide natural and least harmful product and in this case exporting
from China would be the right decision as outsourcing cost of PLA would be far less in the long
run. The product is inclined to possess genetically modified organisms and consumer would be made
full aware of this information as they have right to correct information about the product. The
product with PLA material would specify the substance and content for the customer satisfaction.
There are all kinds of retailers and buyers and considering the reputation of the company in such a
short time, the people will tend to accept the product. Looking at the pros and cons of the product it
seems far more favourable to use the PLA, than using the harmful and toxic chemicals and going
against the company's principles.
The use of PLA in the cleaning product may generate many ethical dilemmas to an individual or a
community. Every different individual and community will hold a different opinion about the use of
