Macbeth Analytical Essay
In an effort to achieve, it is often in literature that the protagonist learns to accept his or her currently
fortuitous circumstances and rather than ambitiously seek what he or she wants, the protagonist
acquires what they need. This is a way in which an author can teach a moral lesson about the ill fate
of those bridled by ambition, hubris, greed, etc., without being overtly sententious. Shakespeare,
whether by intention or coincidence, wrote in a similar sense in regards to some of his most famous
and renowned tragedies. Often his works reflect a sense of morality, though rather than the
protagonists realizing the mistakes, their flaws become fatal and only after their actions take their

Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's most beloved protagonists, shares character traits with well crafted
villains. Though he is supposed to be a tragic hero, he wittingly and cruelly hurts the people close
to him in his despair and thirst for revenge. Towards the end of the play he claims he loved
Ophelia more than her own brother did, a brother who did not play with her emotions and use her
for his own gain and bloody goals. Even if Hamlet did truly love Ophelia, he manipulated and
viciously abused her feelings, trust, and confidence, something one would find in a
power–imbalanced relationship where one is a villain and the other a victim. His downfall,
though, is his play at madness. He chooses to donne a facade of insanity in order to take revenge
for his father's sake, but meanwhile compromises his authority and ability to be taken seriously.
Had he rather been subtle and not abrasively distance himself from every potential ally, perhaps he
would not have met such a gruesome end. His own actions and selfish willingness to do anything to
satisfy his own lust for revenge was the direct cause of his death. His brash murder of Polonius, his
alienation of Ophelia, his disturbing confrontation and aggression towards his mother all lead to his

Theme Of Trust In Macbeth
One major shortcoming of King Duncan is that he trusts people very quickly. This is evident in 1.4
of Macbeth because Duncan says, "He was a gentleman on whom I build an absolute trust." This
shows that Duncan fully trusted Cawdor and Cawdor used his trust, which is why he is getting
executed.
In 1.5 we learn that Macbeth likes to boast and thinks very highly of himself. This is shown in the
letter to Lady Macbeth when he writes, "Hail, king that shalt be." He says that the witches have
special powers allowing them to tell the future and they told him that he will become the king soon.
Macbeth seems very soft and gentleman–like as told by Lady Macbeth. She says, "It is too full
o'th'milk of human kindness," meaning he is too kind to snatch the crown from the king.

Macbeth has many reasons for not killing the king, along with their consequences. The first one
is that he will have a harsh afterlife after being blamed for the murder. Also, killing the king will
result in a lot of violence directed towards him as he is a murderer and to be crowned king. Lastly,
he realizes that Duncah has done good as the king and has helped him and given him a lot of
respect. He has done so much for him that he gave Macbeth the title of Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth

Tragedy has most definitely influenced the viewer's thoughts on Macbeth within this play. In
Shakespeare's Macbeth, the audience sees a gradual breakdown in the character of Macbeth himself,
due to the tragic events that unfold during the play. This has a direct effect on the audience's views
and thoughts of Macbeth, thus creating pity and fear within the audience. Macbeth, being a man and

The events in which took place after this increase our pity of Macbeth. The audience sees a grown,
noble and mighty officer degraded into a pool of immense guilt.
Macbeth was, shortly after the murdering incident, driven insane by the immense guilt produced by
his withered conscience. The dagger that was used in the killing of King Duncan haunted him
before the murder took place. This tragedy in the play gives us both fear of where the sword came
from and pity for Macbeth's character that had degraded to such a point that he has become paranoid.
"Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch

In acts 1 and 2 of the play "Macbeth" by Shakespeare, the characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth
are presented to the audience through soliloquies and dialogue between the two. Macbeth is
presented as brave, ambitious and guilty in Acts 1 and 2 of the play through the way others describe
him, what he says and how he internally feels, and Lady Macbeth is presented as being determined
and driven.
In Acts 1 and 2, Shakespeare presents Macbeth as brave by the way that others describe him. Before
the entrance of Macbeth onto the stage, the audience learns how brave Macbeth has just been on the
battlefield in honour of his king. He is called 'brave Macbeth' because 'he deserves that name', we

He is Duncan's 'kinsman and his subject', he reminds himself that what he is doing is wrong and
that he has the duty to protect the king, not murder him. In an interaction with Lady Macbeth
prior to the murder of Duncan, he says they 'shall proceed no longer in this business', this shows
that he has a moral compass, and he knows that what he is about to do is wrong. Also, previous to
the murder he hallucinates a 'dagger', it is a figment of his imagination because he is very
anxious, and is already feeling culpability. This part in the play is key in showing that Macbeth is
consumed by guilt and anxiety, so is not in the best mindset to commit a murder. Despite this, he
still kills Duncan. His guilt returns after the murder when an 'Amen [is] stuck' in his throat, he
knows that he has sinned against God, and he is too anxious to say Amen. Immediately after killing
Duncan he is 'afraid to think of what [he has] done', he has immense regret and feels a lot of guilt.
In Acts 1 and 2, Lady Macbeth is presented as being determined and driven, for example in her first
entrance, when she shows her quick–decisiveness upon reading Macbeth's letter. The letter tells of
how Macbeth could be King, and Lady Macbeth, who comes to the conclusion instantly that that is
what must happen, then goes on to highlight the problems of this in her first soliloquy, in which she
says: "Yet do I fear thy nature, it is too full o'th'milk of human

In the play, phrases of fear escape from her lips even in her sleep. She believes darkness to be the
place of torment. Within the whole drama, the sun seems to shine only twice. Firstly, in the
beautiful but in the passages when Duncan sees the swallows flirting round the castle of death.
Another time, when the avenging army gathers near Dunsanane. Therefore, the reader can
conclude that Shakespeare portrays darkness to establish the evil parts of the play; whereas, the

Coronation Day Today was the day I so patiently had been waiting for, coronation day! As a
commoner it was almost unheard of to be able to visit the castle amongst the royals. I walked up
to the tall door and entered the grand dining hall. The dining hall was dark and cold sending a
shiver up my spine. The sound of laughter and conversation bounced off the walls overpowering

In life, there are two types of people: those who do the right thing and those who don't. In the play
Macbeth, by Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is given a prophecy by three witches that
says he will become king; however, there is no descending line of kings of his own blood. With the
knowledge of the Witches' prophecy,Macbeth's ambition, and manipulation from his wife, Lady
Macbeth, Macbeth is quickly dragged into a never–ending, bloody murder rampage to obtain the
crown and get rid of those who stand in the way of obtaining it as well. Macbeth constantly battles
with his moral dilemmas; however, he easily falls victim to influences that go against his morals.
Influences on major characters emphasize how easily one's decision making can be negatively
affected, resulting in one going against his or her morals/integrity.
The influence of the Witches' prophecy used by Shakespeare, change Lady Macbeth's and Banquo's
decision making which goes against their integrity. After Lady Macbeth receives a letter from
Macbeth describing his experience with the three witches' and their prophecy, she speaks about
Duncan's fatal death. She says to herself, "Fill me from the crown to the toe top–full of direst
cruelty. Make thick my blood. Stop up th' access and passage to remorse, that no compunctious

behind so that he could get Malcolm to come back and be king. When he left to get Malcolm,
Macbeth killed his entire family. He felt guilty for living his family alone in Scotland without
protection. Similarly to ambition, his guilt drove him to kill Macbeth. Another example of guilt
is Lady Macbeth sleeping walking towards the end of the play. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth killed
the king of Scotland (Duncan) and she is feeling guilty for what she has done. Also, she doesn't
like what her husband has done like killing Macduff's whole family. She feels as if she was
responsible for that. In a result of that she ends up sleep walking and eventually killing herself
because she couldn't live with the guilt anymore. The guilt of killing Duncan literally ate at Lady

the human race. Even in modern times, society relates to Macbeth as people are consistently

Macbeth is confused as he is arguing with himself on what he should do. He states reasons not to
kill Duncan, because Macbeth is his noble kinsmen and the act would bring dishonor. However,
he also states reason why he should kill him, because Macbeth will then become king and fulfill

murder of King Duncan, also develops internal conflict. At first, Lady Macbeth seems to be a

Literary Analysis of Macbeth Having a lust for power can cause a loss in many things. It's as if
you're in a win–lose situation. In this case, the play Macbeth written by Shakespeare has scholars

With the visit to King Duncan, the King announces that his son Malcolm will be heir to the
throne. In Macbeth's mind, all he can think about is murdering the King and all that will come
along with it. Macbeth sends a letter to his wife telling of all that has happened and to prepare for
the King's visit. In order to keep the murder in her mind she doesn't want anything to get in her way,
so she even goes to the point of seeking evil and not wanting to be a women–afraid of the feminine

Macduff, planning his journey to England, with a map in one hand and shadow of guilt in his
other, acknowledging the fact that leaving his family behind is a bad idea but a good idea at the
same time because he is an imminent threat to Macbeth. Macduff, a noble and strong character turns

In William Shakespeare's Macbeth, changes happen. At the beginning of the play, Macbeth is a well
liked and good man of Scotland, who turns into an evil, cold hearted, murderer by the end. His

Banquo won't support Macbeth if he get to crown immorally. Macbeth didn't listen to Banquo. He
listened to the evil instead of following his conscience. The witches also told Macbeth to fear
Macduff. After Macbeth heard this, he killed Macduff's whole family. He believed everything that
the witches told him, instead of overriding their prophecy and following his morals. Instead of doing
the right thing, he committed multiple murders to try to cover up the previous ones.
He attempted to bury the past by killing more and more people to try to cover up that he was the
one who killed Duncan. Once Banquo started getting suspicious of Macbeth, he decided to kill him.
"But to be safely thus. Our fears in Banquo/ Stick deep, and in his royalty of nature/ Reigns that
which would be fear'd. 'Tis must he dares/ And, to that dauntless temper of his mind" (III.i.52–54).
Macbeth fears Banquo because he was starting to realize that Macbeth was the one to kill Duncan,
and because of this he decided to kill Banquo. Macbeth committed over nine murders throughout the
play, all revolving around the fact that he let others manipulate him.
Some people might argue that Lady Macbeth got into Macbeth's head because she wanted power,
and the only way she could do so, was to have a husband of high authority. Lady Macbeth may have

Macbeth Essay "Macbeth" is a tragic play that was written by William Shakespeare in the early
1600's. It revolved around the character Macbeth and his urge to become king of Scotland. Macbeth
had to do anything possible to become the king including murder, lying, and deception. However,
Macbeth committed these evil deeds due to some influential people in his life. Between Macbeth's
wife persuading him to do anything to become king and the witches prophesying over him causes
Macbeth to try and bury the past and control the future. Lady Macbeth can be the blame for

based on what she wants from him, which most of the time are dangerous choices that could get
Macbeth in serious trouble. If Macbeth does not go along with what she wants, she begins to

making Macbeth take a present fatalistic approach on time because he is unhappy with the
present since Lady Macbeth is calling him a coward. This generally leads to risk taking and in
this case it does because Macbeth goes on to kill King Duncan due to the persuasion from Lady
Macbeth. This is perfect for Lady Macbeth because she now gets to have a royal status and cannot
get in trouble because she did not kill the king. The killing of King Duncan led Macbeth to
murder many more people that could possibly stop Macbeth from being king. Anyone who could
have had any knowledge of Macbeth killing King Duncan or could have taken the throne from
Macbeth was a threat, who needed to be murdered in his eyes. "Our fears in Banquo stick deep,
and in his royalty of nature reigns that which would be feared. 'Tis much he dares, and to that
dauntless temper of his mind he hath a wisdom that doth guide his valor to act in safety."(Act III,

Macbeth Analytical Essay In an effort to achieve, it is often in literature that the protagonist learns to accept his or her currently fortuitous circumstances and rather than ambitiously seek what he or she wants, the protagonist acquires what they need. This is a way in which an author can teach a moral lesson about the ill fate of those bridled by ambition, hubris, greed, etc., without being overtly sententious. Shakespeare, whether by intention or coincidence, wrote in a similar sense in regards to some of his most famous and renowned tragedies. Though he is supposed to be a tragic hero, he wittingly and cruelly hurts the people close to him in his despair and thirst for revenge. This is evident in 1.4 of Macbeth because Duncan says, "He was a gentleman on whom I build an absolute trust."
