The study evaluated different question styles and integration of a computer-assisted learning (CAL) program called CAL Scribe into a general pathology course for medical students. Students completed questionnaires at the end of the course. The purpose was to determine how students reacted to the different question styles in CAL Scribe and how well it was integrated into the course.

The present study sought to determine the extent to which participation in a post-secondary honors program affected academic achievement. Archival data were collected on three cohorts of high-achieving students at a large, public university. Propensity scores were calculated on factors predicting participation in honors and used as t he covariate. The Johnson-Neyman technique was used to determine the values of the covariate on which the groups differed. The effect of participating in honors was greater for smaller covariate values. The findings offer a positive outcome associated with participation for students at the lower end of the propensity score continuum, providing evidence to conclude that such programs are beneficial to a sub-set of high-achieving students.

Aptitude of students entering into Post graduate courses in INDIA is an aspect to be studied. Entrance Examinations do test the aptitude but to a certain extent. Post graduate students are expected to have a certain level of aptitude and this aptitude should be sustained till the end of their course and beyond. Therefore, it is a necessity to examine to what extent their aptitudes are getting tested. The marks scored by the students in the entrance examination is an indicator of the aptitude but does not speak of the ability of the students in all the aspects or the subject of their specialization in the post graduate courses.It has been observed that a causal dependency exists between the degree marks and the entrance test marks. This paper tries to investigate this dependency with linear regression techniques. On the whole , categories of students are identified by studying the distribution of marks. A mapping between the marks and the questions are being studied. Linear regression technique is being used to identify the groups of students and to predict the expected marks that the future students would score.

Accurate prediction and early identification of student at-risk of attrition are of high concern for higher educational institutions (HEIs). It is of a great importance not only to the students but also to the educational administrators and the institutions in the areas of improving academic quality and efficient utilisation of the available resources for effective intervention. However, despite the different frameworks and various models that researchers have used across institutions for predicting performance, only negligible success has been recorded in terms of accuracy, efficiency and reduction of student attrition. This has been attributed to the inadequate and selective use of variables for the predictive models. This paper presents a multi-dimensional and an integrated system framework that involves considerable learners’ input and engagement in predicting their academic performance and intervention in HEIs. The purpose and functionality of the framework are to produce a comprehensive, unbiased and efficient way of predicting student performance that its implementation is based upon multi-sources data and database system. It makes use of student demographic and learning management system (LMS) data from the institutional databases as well as the student psychosocial-personality (SPP) data from the survey collected from the student to predict performance. The proposed approach will be robust, generalizable, and possibly give a prediction at a higher level of accuracy that educational administrators can rely on for providing timely intervention to students.

The effectiveness of skills laboratory training is widely recognized. Yet, the transfer of procedural skills acquired in skills laboratories into clinical practice has rarely been investigated. We conducted a prospective, randomised, double-blind, controlled trial to evaluate, if students having trained intravenous (IV) cannulation in a skills laboratory are rated as more professional regarding technical and communication skills compared to students who underwent bedside teaching when assessed objectively by independent video assessors and subjectively by patients.

The study investigates whether the study skills can be summarized in a single universal score that measures how hard a student works. The sample consists of 418 undergraduate students of an international university. The presented scoring was method adapted from the domain of risk management. The proposed method computes an overall score that represents the study skills, using a linear weighted summation scheme. From among 50 questions regarding to learning and study skills, the 30 highest weighted questions are suggested to be used in the future studies as a learning and study skills inventor. The proposed scoring method and study yield results and insights that can guide educators regarding how they can improve their students’ study skills. The main point drawn from this study is that the students greatly value opportunities for interaction with instructors and peers, cooperative learning and active engagement in lectures.

The purpose of this Programme Exit Survey (PES) was to provide data to gauge perceptions of various aspects of programmes and services offered and to identify areas where improvements may be needed in the Department of Electrical Engineering (JKE), Politeknik Kota Kinabalu (PKK). This PES was conducted on 43 final semester students, graduating from Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) (DEP). They were the first Cohort whose intake was in June 2010. The survey questionnaire had five main sections: respondents’ profile; assessment of overall quality; assessment of skills and knowledge; assessment of Lecturers and Academic Advisor; and assessment of academic resources and facilities. The assessment of the overall quality, attribute for teaching and learning experience was rated 94% with “very good” and “good”. Skills and knowledge section was evaluated by relating the statements with nine items as stated in the Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO). All the PLOs’ were marked at least “adequate” by 99.8% of the students. Assessment on lecturers and academic advisor were rated 46.53% as “very good” and 49.78% as “good”. In terms of academic resources and facilities, the access to Wi-Fi had the highest unsatisfactory concerned from the respondent whereby 30.2% rated the item as “marginal”.

Use laptops instead of bags that weigh weights strain our children as well as the ease to download the curriculum according to each level 3. The use of laptop computers to facilitate the process of Internet connectivity and to keep pace with scientific development. 4. The survey questionnaire had five main sections: respondents’ profile; assessment of overall quality; assessment of skills and knowledge; assessment of Lecturers and Academic Advisor; and assessment of academic resources and facilities. All the data were analysed using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) software version IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0. For the assessment of the overall quality, attribute for teaching and learning experience was rated 100% with “excellent”, “very good” and “good”. Skills and knowledge section was evaluated by relating the statements with nine items as stated in the Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO). All the PLOs’ were marked at least “good” by 98% of the students. Assessment on lecturers and academic advisor were rated 33.3% as “excellent” and 57.1% as “very good”. In terms of academic resources and facilities, the access to Wi-Fi had the highest unsatisfactory concerned from the respondent whereby 28.6% rated the item as “weak”.

Many experiments have been conducted on Pair Programming (PP) by constructing small-scale programs of a few hundred lines of code, using correctness, duration, and effort metrics. In this paper a group of students were selected on basis of major group as Computer Science and non-major group as Physics. Measurements were made on the basis of lines of code, creativity, presentation, time, number of variables used and efficiency. After gathering data the analyses were made with the requirements and plotted in graph to check their grade and statistic level between major and non-major group. Finally results are given such as major students possessed successive and non major students possessed partially successive.

The learning model developed in this study is a whole series of presentation of teaching material that covers all aspects before being and after learning conducted by lecturers by including teaching materials in the teaching and learning process. The learning model developed is called QI MODELS with the syntax: Goals, Observation, Project, Discussion, Task, Practice, Meaningful, Justification, and Evaluation. Teaching material contains a set of material from the course "Instructional Media Design" that is arranged systematically so that lecturers and students can use it in the learning process in an atmosphere and a comfortable environment for learning. To see the effectiveness of the product an analysis of the learning outcomes of the 26 students taught using the Instructional Media Design textbook developed, and compared with the learning outcomes of students in the class taught with presentation material. Based on the analysis, the average value of basic competencies using instructional materials for Indonesian National Qualification Framework (INQF)-based Instructional Media Design is higher than the average value of students who use presentation materials. Testing the hypothesis used is a different test. From the calculation results obtained tcount = 7.63 while ttable = 2.01. Because tcount = 7.63>ttable = 2.01, it was concluded that there was a significant difference in students' learning achievement using Instructional Media Design textbooks and using presentation material. The effectiveness of the use of Instructional Media Design textbooks is 79.09%.

Evaluation criteria for different disciplines vary from subject to subject such as Computer science, Medicine, Management, Commerce, Art, Humanities and so on. Various evaluation criteria are being used to measure the retention of the students’ knowledge. Some of them are in-class assignments, take home assignments, group projects, individual projects and final examinations. When conducting lectures in higher education institutes there can be more than one method to evaluate students to measure their retention of knowledge. During the short period of the semester system we should be able to evaluate students in several ways. There are practical issues when applying multiple evaluation criteria. Time management, number of students per subject, how many lectures delivered per semester and the length of the syllabus are the main issues. The focus of this paper however, is on identification, finding advantages and proposing an evaluation criterion for Computer based testing for programming subjects in higher education institutes in Sri Lanka. Especially when evaluating hand written answers students were found to have done so many mistakes such as programming mistakes. Therefore they lose considerable marks. Our method increases the efficiency and the productivity of the student’s and also reduces the error rate considerably. It also has many benefits for the lecturer. With the low number of academic members it is hard to spend more time to evaluate them closely. A better evaluation criterion is very important for the students in this discipline because they should stand on their own feet to survive in the industry.

Educational data mining (EDM) is one of the applications of data mining. In educational data mining, there are two key domains, i.e. student domain and faculty domain. Different type of research work has been done in both domains. In existing system the faculty performance has calculated on the basis of two parameters i.e. Student feedback and the result of student in that subject. In existing system we define two approaches one is multiple classifier approach and the other is a single classifier approach and comparing them, for relative evaluation of faculty performance using data mining Techniques. In multiple classifier approach K-nearest neighbor (KNN) is used in first step and Rule based classification is used in the second step of classification while in single classifier approach only KNN is used in both steps of classification. But in proposed system, I will analyse the faculty performance using 4 parameters i.e., student complaint about faculty, Student review feedback for faculty, students feedback, and students result etc. For this proposed system I will be going to use opinion mining technique for analyzing performance of faculty and calculating score of each faculty.

The study was conducted to improve the low vocabulary mastery of technical terms appeared in English for mechanical engineering purposes at STT Adisutjipto. The students are required to master the technical terms of the three offered concentrations; energy conversion, aircraft maintenance, and manufacture. A blended learning was chosen to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery through an action research study. It was divided in two cycles and the data were collected through the journal log, observation sheet, questionnaire, test, and interview. The result indicated that the students enjoyed and improved their vocabulary mastery. The blended learning was seen effectively improving the vocabulary mastery.
