6. Creating your library
You can add references in many ways:
• Add single files or an entire folder
You can also:
• Add existing EndNote/BibTeX/RIS databases
• Use the Mendeley Web Importer to add from
online databases
• Add from the Mendeley Research Catalog
7. Adding your papers
Best of all, you can drag and drop PDFs into Mendeley
Desktop (it’s magic!) & Mendeley will try to extract
the document details automatically.
9. Filling in the details: lookup
Enter the DOI, PubMed, or ArXiv ID and
click on the magnifier glass to start lookup
Missing info is added automatically
10. Using the Web Importer
On the web page with
the reference(s) you
want to capture: click on
the bookmarklet,
then click on “Import” to import
the reference to your Mendeley
library. If available, the associated
PDF will be imported also.
11. Synchronize and manage your library online
You can add
references &
edit & manage your
library online.

Click on “Insert Citation” in Word
Highlight the paper(s) you want to
cite

Citation will appear in the style you selected.
To create a bibliography, just click at the end
of your document!
20. Share references with Mendeley Groups
Groups can be private or public (invite only or open)
Public groups only have the reference details – no
full text. Private groups contain the full text,
including notes & annotations.
