Our Mandate & Purpose
Action Speaks Loudest: Act Up!
We are champions of inspired action. Encouraging all members of the public, to take a
stand for and against something they care about. We believe there is a time to wait and a
time to act, and the only way to make Impact is to Act Up! Be an ‘upstander’ not a
bystander. We believe in the invincible power of the next generation of change makers.

We explore, the roots of change by raising the public consciousness to understand the
importance of culture, community, charity, creativity and change. We strive to offer
thoughtful exhibit work that is democratic in its forms, aims, and outcomes; focused on
the interrelationships between people, power, society and nature. It is our aim to
consistently open dialogue that adds vibrancy and embraces arts & heritage as a
cornerstone of communities. We allow our ‘Upstanders’ to curate, create and debate at
MOI advancing culture and commentary in our communities and beyond.
Our Brand Statement
The Museum of Impact is about celebrating the change makers spirit – especially the
innovators who outwit societal challenges and oppression. We honor everyday people who
are making a difference in our world, and we are about inspiring those who will improve
our future. We serve as a dynamic center for shared discovery, consistently bringing new
ideas and disruptive / design thinking to continue finding solutions to social issues.
The personality of the museum is clever, witty and smart with a fresh, contemporary,
tech- savvy vibe, and a grassroots heart. We’re passionate about the importance of service
and helping to change the world, but don’t take ourselves too seriously, or come off
preachy. We enjoy entertaining and educating our visitors at the same time and providing
the spark for community connections.
Our Rationale (UBUNTU: I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE)
During the founder’s thanksgiving mission trip to South Africa, she was struck by the
needs and resilience of people, and the way they overcame many obstacles & societal
oppression through community connectedness, music, art and natures beauty . During
this time she visited villages that had very little material gains but tremendous spirit and
hope. She tapped into the beautiful culture of South Africa, their belief in Ubuntu as their
collective path to healing. This mission of thanks inspired her to give birth to the Museum
of Impact!
Archbishop Desmond Tutu says this about the South African concept of ubuntu: “[It]
means my humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in yours. We belong in a
bundle of life. We say, “A person is a person through other people.” It is not “I think
therefore I am.” It says rather: “I am human because I belong.” I participate, I share.”
Individuals and communities are under stress and every museum must play its part in
improving lives, creating better places and helping to advance society, building on the
traditional role of preserving collections and connecting audiences with them. As
generations grow and community values are reconsidered through shifts in social
consciousness, Social sustainability drives the mandate that arts and cultural
organizations provide a place for opening important conversations. This is really the heart
of a sustainable community, a shared ethos illustrating the importance of cause, purpose,
advocacy and activism. This is why MOI exists. Our time is now!
