The Prime Meridian passes through Greenwich, England and was established in 1884 as the standard reference line for longitude and determining east-west positions globally. It extends 20,000 km from the North Pole to the South Pole, passing through several countries in Europe, Africa, and Antarctica. The Greenwich Meridian was chosen at the International Meridian Conference due to many ships already using charts based on it.
