3. Introduction
This lesson contains two parts. In part 1
it is told about the famous women
mountaineer who scaled Mt.Everest two
times that is Santhosh Yadav.
In the second part it is told about
famous women tennis player Maria
Sharapova.
4. PART -1 SANTHOSH YADAV
Santhosh was the only woman who
scaled the mt Everest twice.
She was born in a society where boy
child were considered as boon and
girl child were considered as a curse.
5. • One day a holy man was travelling in
the village and he came to Santhosh’s
parents house. He thought like other
families in the village Santhosh’s family
also welcome a boy child but to his
surprise they asked for a girl child. He
was surprised.
6. Family
• Santhosh was born as sixth child in a
family with 5 brothers. She was born in
small village of Joniyawas of Rewari
district in Haryana.
• The girl was given name Santhosh
meaning contentment. She was not
allowed to practice the traditional
customs of girl child.
7. Santhosh’s parents was a affluent
land owner. They could send
Santhosh to Delhi Public school
but dur to tradition and customs of
the village she went to village
school.
• She wanted to fight against the
customs of villages but she was
waiting for correct time and the
correct time arrived at age of 16.
8. Against Marriage
• The right occurred at the age of sixteen. At
the age of sixteen most the girls would get
married in that village and Santhosh was
forced by her parents for the same.
• But, she refused, the told she would not
marry until she get her higher education.
Her parents refused to pay the school fee.
So, she planned to work part time and
manage the fee. By seeing her
determination in her education her parents
agreed to pay.
9. Start of Carrier..
• After completing her school education she
thought to study more and went to
Maharani college in Jaipur and joined
Kasturba Hostel.
• The hostel faced Aravalli hill. She used to
watch the villagers climbing up the hill and
coming back in a while. One day she
thought join them she saw some
mountaineers and asked them and joined
them.
10. Start of mountaineering…
• She joined Uttarkashi’s mountaineering
Institute without her father’s permission.
There after she didn’t look back and went
forward. At the age of barely 20 she reached
the summit of MT. Everest and she the
youngest women in the world to climb.
• During 1992 in Everest mission she saved her
fellow climber by sharing her oxygen cylinder.
His name was Mohan Singh.
11. Second try…
• Within 1 year Santhosh found herself in
INDO-NEPALESE WOMEN’S EXPEDITION.
She then scaled mount evert twice. She
secured a place for herself and made
India proud.
• She was awarded Padmashri.
• She could not express her feeling.
• She was also a environmentalist she
collected 500kg’s of Garbage from
Himalayas.
