2. Case Overview
 Chris and Alison Weston , a successful , well educated and
ambitious couple ended up in prison for mail fraud.
 Due to the non fulfillment of the expectation from the company
, he purposely try to steal whole bunch of money and felt that
his actions were justified by the company’s culture.
 Chris’ former employer sued both Chris and Alison for more
than a million dollars.
 After serving 20 months and 18 months in prison, they
committed themselves to live a transparent and simple life.
 They learnt that an individual's identity is greater than his/her
job.

 Both Chris and Alison were found guilty of white collar crime.
Committed fraud by overbilling the company for the padding
services
 This issue was highly situational , as Chris wasn’t rewarded
for the sacrifices he made for the company on part of his
family.
 Chris and Alison Weston sentenced for 30 and 24 months
respectively. But it was later reduced to 20 and 18, which
included 6 months of community custody.
 Chris’s aim to GET THE JOB DONE BY HOOK OR BY
CROOK was the main reason which persuaded Chris to
perform this felony.

What happened?
Instock trading scandal, early 2000’s
 Martha Stewart sold $230,000 shares a day before an
experimental cancer drug failed to gain FDA approval.
 She was found guilty of obstruction of justice, conspiracy and
lying about a stock sale.
 Served 5 months in prison
 Founder Samuel Waskal found guilty of insider trading, pled
guilty to charges of Bank Fraud, securities, obstruction of
justice and perjury.
 Sentenced to seven year three months prison in the year 2007.

5. In your view, what were the most
difficult moments the Westons
faced? Why?
 Chris was sentenced for 30 months and Alison for 24 months
in prison
 Chris was assigned to prison’s cafeteria and had to do clean
toilets , scrub walls.
 Later Chris moved to the food serving line.
 Their request for prison sentence being staggered was
rejected.
 They had to shut down their business and were out of
finances.
 They had to leave their daughter to their relatives and it was
difficult for her to cope up with this situation.
 Had to pay the restitution amount of $1,204,000.
