Christmas gave us a gift that
changed everything . . . hope!
During this time of year, I can’t help but remember those living in the most
extreme conditions—those trapped in a world of hopelessness.
Poverty, disease, oppression . . . they steal everything away from you,
including the ability to hope. Without the fundamentals of healthy living—
food, clean water, medical care, education, opportunity—lives are robbed of
dignity . . . reduced to simply surviving.
But we were created for so much more than just surviving. We have been
given the promise of hope. And it’s a promise that was meant to be shared.
This Christmas, will you and your family consider sharing the gift of eternal
hope with those who desperately need it? Gifts of Hope was created to
strategically meet physical needs so doors can be opened to meet spiritual
needs. Simply put, providing help for today means giving the gift of hope
for tomorrow.
We’ve been given a gift that has the power to change everything. How can
we not share it?
Merry Christmas,

AID
In order to bring development, we must first ensure
that basic needs are met. Providing physical aid is our
approach to establishing long-term care. How can a
community thrive if its children lack even the basics:
food, clean water, shoes, or medicine?
Only when their most essential needs are met
can families and villages begin to move toward
sustainable health. We must invest in resources
that meet immediate physical needs while
simultaneously building toward a stronger, healthier
tomorrow for individuals caught in a cycle of despair.
Together, we can build the foundation for lasting
well-being. Clean water, food, medicine, and
physical protection are where the real strength
of a community begins.
And do not forget to do good and to share with others,
for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Overwhelmed by poverty, Fernando’s
mother left when he was barely a year
old and already malnourished. While
his father worked during the day, his
12-year-old sister did the best she could
to care for Fernando and his twin
brother. But they had been sick for
months. Their tiny bodies seemed to
shrink by the day. It would take a
miracle for them to survive . . . a miracle
that came in the form of life-saving
medical supplies at one of World Help’s
rescue centers.

Poverty turns preventable conditions into death sentences . . . but we believe

EDUCATION
Education is the pathway out of sickness, gender
inequality, underdevelopment, and the perpetual
cycle of hopelessness generated by extreme poverty.
The benefits of successful schooling are enough to
transform entire families . . . and that impact reaches
the next generation. Primary education and skills
training are directly related to lower infant and
maternal mortality, higher incomes, and better
protection against disease. We must treat it as a
priority if we want to see successful development
and sustainable growth.
Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

SUSTAINABILITY
Extreme poverty eliminates the most basic resources
needed for long-term health. But how can a family or
community build and grow if each day is lived out
with the goal of simply surviving?
Through Gifts of Hope, we invest in practices that will
yield health and hope-filled futures year after year.
Breeding livestock, growing gardens, selling milk,
harvesting wool—these are all results of sustainable
solutions. And they will continue to meet needs . . .
generation after generation.

SmallHomes
Countless households in impoverished
South American communities are headed
by single women, and their homes are often
defenseless against intruders and extreme
weather. In many of these rural communities,
a typical home is constructed of salvaged
materials like tin and plastic. The majority
consist of only one room with dirt floors
and no running water. But together, we can
build safe places to live for vulnerable single-
parent families struggling to survive.

The lack of professional medical care in
sub-Saharan Africa is astounding. Thousands
die needlessly because they rely on tribal
remedies or witch doctors. For others,
medical attention is simply too far away

where emergency care is readily accessible.

Community
& Spiritual
Development
Holistic health begins with a strong infrastructure—
physical, social, and spiritual. These elements
allow a community to move forward with dignity
and competence.
Yet so many villages and regions lack these
unifying fundamentals. As a result, forward
progress remains nonexistent.
Building a strong infrastructure means ensuring
a community has access to clean water, shelter,
medical facilities, schools, and churches. Together,
they build a foundation for sustainable growth
and long-term health. They also pave the way
for new standards of development, allowing a
community to thrive.

Waterborne diseases kill more than 3.4
million people yearly . . . claiming the
lives of 4,500 children every day. In
fact, dirty drinking water is at the root of
malnutrition, infant mortality, preventable
diseases, low school enrollment, and
ultimately, the cycle of poverty.
By building clean-water wells and
implementing water systems around
the world, we can prevent water-related
illnesses, save lives, and build healthier
children, families, and communities.

Of the 16 million AIDS orphans globally,
nearly 15 million live in sub-Saharan Africa. In
the aftermath of the epidemic, families were
ripped apart, virtually destroying the familial
system and creating an entire generation
of orphans.
At the height of the crisis, World Help began
building Homes of Hope for those left
behind. These unique facilities are caring
for children and young adults directly
impacted by the devastation of AIDS. Each
child receives nutritious food, education,
medical attention, and is raised in a safe and
loving environment. These homes make up

Impact
Last year’s Gifts of Hope campaign was the most successful to
date, and World Help couldn’t be more grateful for the lives
forever changed as a result.
Through vocational training, you empowered young women
previously enslaved to prostitution. You gave the gift of God’s
Word to villagers in rural Bangladesh who had never heard the
name of Jesus. You equipped AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe with
an education that allowed them to excel in their national exams.
You helped starving families regain their footing by providing
livestock and agriculture opportunities.
With every gift and every act of compassion, you instilled dignity
and a sense of hope for those who needed it desperately.
And this year, we want to do it again. There are still entire
Chinese congregations studying from one Bible. Hundreds
of low-caste Indian communities are waiting for clean water.
Mothers in the slums of Uganda still rely on their bodies to make
money for their families.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a
brother or sister in need but has no pity on them,
how can the love of God be in that person?
— 1 John 3:17-18

World Help has offered help for today and hope
for tomorrow for more than 20 years.
World Help is a faith-based, humanitarian organization that exists
to serve the physical and spiritual needs of people in impoverished
communities around the world.
We do this by partnering with compassionate individuals who
have the vision to make a lasting difference. We rely heavily on
international partners who personally know the needs of their
countries. These faithful men and women not only help us identify
needs on the ground, but also carry out the physical details of
project implementation and follow up.
Currently, World Help directs 87 percent of all resources to our
global projects, using only 10 percent for administration, and 3
percent for fundraising. Every gift is maximized in order to bring the
greatest amount of aid to those who need it most around the world.
We have received the highest ratings from the Evangelical Council
for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and the independent donor
advocate organization, MinistryWatch.com.
In order to experience true health, a
child must have access to clean water,
nutrition, education, medical attention,
and love. Yet millions of children are
without those foundational needs.
They are living every day just to
survive. World Help believes everyone
deserves a healthy childhood. With the
help of compassionate sponsors, we’re
giving the gift of health and hope to
thousands of children globally.
Sponsorship isn’t simply a monthly gift of $35,
it’s an investment in future leaders, parents,
doctors, teachers . . . world changers. It unlocks
the potential of impoverished children and sets
them free to not only dream about their futures,
but pursue them. Become a sponsor today and
equip a child with the love and resources needed
to change the world.
$35/Month
Provides financial support
to sustain one child.*
Item #4553
* To specify gender, age, or
request a child from a specific
country, please call toll free

online sponsorship portal at

“I am so
thankful to God for
giving me good parents,
like you, when my earthly
parents are not there for me.
May God bless you all.”
– Sponsored Child from India

Sponsorship Who We Are...
Make a Commitment. . .
Transform a Life
He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,
and he will reward him for what he has done.
– Proverbs 19:17
And do not forget to do good
and to share with others, for with
such sacrifices God is pleased.

Gifts of Hope Catalog - Christmas 2013

  • 1.
  • 2. Christmas gave us a gift that changed everything . . . hope! During this time of year, I can’t help but remember those living in the most extreme conditions—those trapped in a world of hopelessness. Poverty, disease, oppression . . . they steal everything away from you, including the ability to hope. Without the fundamentals of healthy living— food, clean water, medical care, education, opportunity—lives are robbed of dignity . . . reduced to simply surviving. But we were created for so much more than just surviving. We have been given the promise of hope. And it’s a promise that was meant to be shared. This Christmas, will you and your family consider sharing the gift of eternal hope with those who desperately need it? Gifts of Hope was created to strategically meet physical needs so doors can be opened to meet spiritual needs. Simply put, providing help for today means giving the gift of hope for tomorrow. We’ve been given a gift that has the power to change everything. How can we not share it? • 3. AID In order to bring development, we must first ensure that basic needs are met. Providing physical aid is our approach to establishing long-term care. How can a community thrive if its children lack even the basics: food, clean water, shoes, or medicine? Only when their most essential needs are met can families and villages begin to move toward sustainable health. We must invest in resources that meet immediate physical needs while simultaneously building toward a stronger, healthier tomorrow for individuals caught in a cycle of despair. Together, we can build the foundation for lasting well-being. Clean water, food, medicine, and physical protection are where the real strength of a community begins. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. – Hebrews 13:16 CONTENTS 5 Aid 11 Education 16 Sustainability 22 Community & Spiritual Development 28 Merchandise 33 Year in Review 35 World Help Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2 4 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 5

While his father worked during the day, his 12-year-old sister did the best she could to care for Fernando and his twin brother. But they had been sick for months. Their tiny bodies seemed to shrink by the day. It would take a miracle for them to survive . . . a miracle that came in the form of life-saving medical supplies at one of World Help’s rescue centers.

Provide new sports equipment and invest in healthy childhoods. $100 Provide sports equipment for a community Item #4577 BooksforKids Recreational reading doesn’t just develop critical reading skills—it gives children a greater world to dream in. Give to provide books and help children read better and think bigger. $5 Provide a child’s book Item #4581 Street gangs and violence are an ever-present influence on children living in Honduran suburbs. Not only do we help keep them off the streets through an afterschool program, we’re providing school uniforms for the “poorest of the poor,” giving children a sense of dignity. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. – Hebrews 13:2 12 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 13
  • 8. VocationalSchoolScholarships A chance for secondary education is rare for young adults living in poverty. However, by providing training for in-demand skills, we empower these individuals with competence, dignity . . . and the ability to break free from the cycle of poverty. Invest in healthy families through a vocational school scholarship. $300 Provide one year of vocational school Item #4556 Hair-StylingTools andProducts Hair care is a reliable skillset for many in developing communities, but often they lack proper resources and tools. Every year, these tools allow them to begin using their training instantly, making an immediate difference. 14 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 15 Tools of the Trade Vocational schooling is an excellent alternative for individuals unable to pursue higher education. In-demand skills training not only ensures reliable incomes, but means a healthier way of life for entire families. ... and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills. – Exodus 35:31 “Ever since I got enrolled in this school, I managed to discover that I have great talent. But how can a family or community build and grow if each day is lived out with the goal of simply surviving? Through Gifts of Hope, we invest in practices that will yield health and hope-filled futures year after year. Breeding livestock, growing gardens, selling milk, harvesting wool—these are all results of sustainable solutions. And they will continue to meet needs . . . generation after generation. 16 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 17 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. – Proverbs 13:12

  • 11. The benefits of a livestock bundle are enough to save lives and transform entire communities. Combined, they mean superior nutrition, resources for clothing and bedding, the ability to breed, and produce to sell . . . transforming an entire community. $3,000 Provide 2 cows, 2 pigs, 2 sheep, 2 goats, and 2 dozen chickens Item #4565 Cows Cow’s milk is a fantastic source of calcium and protein for a child in need. Additionally, the milk from one dairy cow is enough to sustain a small family with a steady source of revenue. It’s an investment that meets multiple needs while building toward a healthier tomorrow. $1,000 Provide one dairy cow Item #4558 Sheep One sheep can yield 30 pounds of wool every year, providing a family with clothing, bedding, and an abundance to sell. • 12. 22 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 23 SmallHomes Countless households in impoverished South American communities are headed by single women, and their homes are often defenseless against intruders and extreme weather. In many of these rural communities, a typical home is constructed of salvaged materials like tin and plastic. The majority consist of only one room with dirt floors and no running water. But together, we can build safe places to live for vulnerable single- parent families struggling to survive. $7,250 Provide a home for a family in need Item #4560 $100 Provide one share of the cost of a home Item #4562 ClinicsofHope The lack of professional medical care in sub-Saharan Africa is astounding. Thousands die needlessly because they rely on tribal remedies or witch doctors. For others, medical attention is simply too far away to access in time. But we can preserve countless lives by building Clinics of Hope where emergency care is readily accessible. Give to build a medical clinic and improve childhoods, restore futures, and save lives. $30,000 Provide one clinic Item #4571 $300 Provide one share of the cost of a clinic Item #4576 Community & Spiritual Development Holistic health begins with a strong infrastructure— physical, social, and spiritual. These elements allow a community to move forward with dignity and competence. Yet so many villages and regions lack these unifying fundamentals. As a result, forward progress remains nonexistent. Building a strong infrastructure means ensuring a community has access to clean water, shelter, medical facilities, schools, and churches. Together, they build a foundation for sustainable growth and long-term health. They also pave the way for new standards of development, allowing a community to thrive. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. – Romans 12:13 “God has remembered us.” – Villagers of Kirinda, Uganda, after hearing they would receive their first medical clinic.

In fact, dirty drinking water is at the root of malnutrition, infant mortality, preventable diseases, low school enrollment, and ultimately, the cycle of poverty. By building clean-water wells and implementing water systems around the world, we can prevent water-related illnesses, save lives, and build healthier children, families, and communities. 24 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 25 HomesofHope Of the 16 million AIDS orphans globally, nearly 15 million live in sub-Saharan Africa. In the aftermath of the epidemic, families were ripped apart, virtually destroying the familial system and creating an entire generation of orphans. At the height of the crisis, World Help began building Homes of Hope for those left behind. These unique facilities are caring for children and young adults directly impacted by the devastation of AIDS. Each child receives nutritious food, education, medical attention, and is raised in a safe and loving environment. These homes make up “Villages of Hope.” $25,000 Provide one Home of Hope Item #4586 $100 Provide one share of a Home of Hope Item #4587 ————————————————————— $100,000 Provide one Village of Hope Item #4588 $400 Provide one share of a Village of Hope Item #4589 “Everyone’s health has improved. • 14. worldhelp.net/gifts 27 “We used to attend church in a small hut with 150 believers, and it was very difficult. People began to show less interest in attending. We prayed for a church building and God answered our prayers. Believers are increasing now.” – Gyanchand, from Guarat, India DigitalBibles As the digital age dominates how we know communications today, we must be prepared to evangelize in the same way. In China, we currently format USB drives with copies of the Bible, Christian literature, Bible study resources, worship music, and more. The contents of each USB can be easily shared with others. Give to support this strategic project and help to impact the next generation of China’s leaders with the life-changing message of the Gospel. $20 Provide one USB Item #4585 Bibles For thousands of persecuted believers around the world, a Bible is a cherished gift they can only dream of owning. One copy of God’s Word can bring incredible encouragement and has the potential to be shared with dozens of individuals. When you give the gift of a Bible, you give a source of hope and impact countless lives. $5 Provide one Bible Item #4573 ChurchPlanting World Help believes one of the most effective ways to share the Gospel is by empowering nationals to reach their peers through church planting. By supporting biblically trained leaders who are committed to sharing the love of Christ, we invest in strategic methods of spiritual development. Reach into the very heart of a nation by giving to plant churches in some of the least-reached areas of the world. $1,000 Plant one church in one community Item #4563 ChurchBuildings Church buildings are a refuge for persecuted Christians around the world. They are a source of spiritual and emotional care and, in many cases, even physical protection. Give to build a church for a persecuted congregation and provide a place of refreshing encouragement and support. $7,500 Provide one church building Item #4570 After receiving his first Bible, one young Bengali boy couldn’t keep its contents to himself. He shared what he had read with his family, who then shared with their entire community. Today, 1,000 people in this village are waiting to declare their faith through baptism! I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. – Psalm 119:11 26 worldhelp.net/gifts “The people are responding to the preaching of the Gospel. Lives are being transformed and healed.”– Church Planter

  • 17. 32 worldhelp.net/gifts worldhelp.net/gifts 33 Impact Last year’s Gifts of Hope campaign was the most successful to date, and World Help couldn’t be more grateful for the lives forever changed as a result. Through vocational training, you empowered young women previously enslaved to prostitution. You gave the gift of God’s Word to villagers in rural Bangladesh who had never heard the name of Jesus. You equipped AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe with an education that allowed them to excel in their national exams. You helped starving families regain their footing by providing livestock and agriculture opportunities. With every gift and every act of compassion, you instilled dignity and a sense of hope for those who needed it desperately. And this year, we want to do it again. There are still entire Chinese congregations studying from one Bible. Hundreds of low-caste Indian communities are waiting for clean water. Mothers in the slums of Uganda still rely on their bodies to make money for their families. PhilippineNecklace Colorful necklaces, beaded by hand, with a variety of stones from the Philippines. World Help is a faith-based, humanitarian organization that exists to serve the physical and spiritual needs of people in impoverished communities around the world. We do this by partnering with compassionate individuals who have the vision to make a lasting difference. We rely heavily on international partners who personally know the needs of their countries. These faithful men and women not only help us identify needs on the ground, but also carry out the physical details of project implementation and follow up. Currently, World Help directs 87 percent of all resources to our global projects, using only 10 percent for administration, and 3 percent for fundraising. Every gift is maximized in order to bring the greatest amount of aid to those who need it most around the world. We have received the highest ratings from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and the independent donor advocate organization, MinistryWatch.com. In order to experience true health, a child must have access to clean water, nutrition, education, medical attention, and love. Yet millions of children are without those foundational needs. They are living every day just to survive. World Help believes everyone deserves a healthy childhood. With the help of compassionate sponsors, we’re giving the gift of health and hope to thousands of children globally. Sponsorship isn’t simply a monthly gift of $35, it’s an investment in future leaders, parents, doctors, teachers . . . world changers. It unlocks the potential of impoverished children and sets them free to not only dream about their futures, but pursue them.
