2.  The following slide presentation is about the evolution in the designing of
materials for second language instruction based on Evolution of
Instructional Materials Design by the Florida Department of Education
(retrieved on August 2010). It deals with the components of the
instructional package, some guidelines list on the content of the
instructional materials and the elements that would not be forgotten
related to legislation, format, organization and resources.

components such as
 Teacher’s Manual
 Test Items or Resources
 Study Guide
 Activity Guide

4. Effective materials also include the following
features
 Adaptable instructional goals
 Accurate, relevant, well organized, coherent up to date and unified flow
information.
 Effective layout, visual presentation and physical features
 Appropriate level and vocabulary
 Development of insight and thinking skills
 Real world application
 Inclusion of supplemental material and references
 Absence of stereotypes

5.  The designing of instructional materials has to follow certain formats to
fulfill the legislation requirements.
 Challenges in reviewing the content are varied and numerous such as
evaluation of content, written by anonymous authors and misleading.
 The resources must be complete enough to address the targeted learning
outcomes. They must include teachers and students resources.
 Alignment and organization: all components of the instructional package
must align with each other and the curriculum. The structure and format
must have enough order and clarity for both, teachers and students.
