There are over 4.5 million dog bites each year About 10-20 are fatal each year It represents a very small number statistically and should not be considered as a basis for sweeping legislative action . http://critteristic.com/dogs-and-puppies/introducing-harmony/ -- http://www.brendasblogfromparaguay.com/2008/05/pit-bull-came-to-church-today.html -- http://pets.webshots.com/photo/1048667002011970576OwCYNv
10. In the United Kingdom, the Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Braziliero are banned dog breeds. However, a study by the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Department of Accident and Emergency has revealed dog bites have not gone down since the initiation of the ban (Australian Social Monitor, Vol.2, No.2, May 1999.) 11. In 2003, Prince George's County, Maryland, formed a task force to “evaluate the effectiveness” of its vicious animal legislation, including its pit bull ban, and make recommendations for improvements and amendments. The task force recommended repealing the ban and strengthening the city's dangerous-dog law. The recommendation was based on numerous cost concerns: (1) The cost of maintaining a single pit bull throughout the entire determination and appeals process was approximately $68,000; (2) fees from pit bull registrations over a two year period generated only $35,000 while the cost to the Animal Management Division for maintenance of pit bulls over the same period was about $560,000; and (3) the costs did not include expenditures such as payroll, cross-agency costs, and utilities. Baltimore, MD estimated in 2001 that it was costing over $750,000.00 a year for their BSL and they were still unable to enforce the law effectively. They chose to repeal the law as did Saginaw, Michigan and other locations based on ineffectiveness and cost. The Real Statistics...
