Micronaut, introduced in early 2018 by Object Computing, is a full-stack JVM-based framework for creating microservices-based, cloud native, and serverless applications that can be written in Java, Groovy, or Kotlin. This new framework provides a simple compile-time, aspect-oriented programming API that does not use reflection. Micronaut supports GraalVM-native images and offers compile-time support for Swagger, validation, and mapping annotations. With its own nonblocking web server built on top of Netty, reactive clients can be built declaratively and are implemented at compile time. This session provides an overview of Micronaut, followed by a live demonstration of an application with microservices written in Java, Groovy, and Kotlin, respectively.

When mentioning about DI framework on Android, in addition to Dagger2, there is actually another alternative, Koin. Koin is a lightweight dependency injection framework written in pure Kotlin. As a DSL, Koin provides a pragmatic API that significantly simplifies the injection process. This session will talk about how easy to set up the dependencies in Koin and how easy to inject instances. Besides, We will demonstrate how to integrate Koin with Model-View-Presenter (MVP) and Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM). Lastly, we will talk about testing with Koin.

What percentage of your web-app is written in JavaScript? Don’t be surprised if it’s more than half of your codebase. With the advent of HTML5 and single-page-applications driven by RESTful backends, the amount of JavaScript keeps growing. On the Java side, OSGi allows us to create modular, flexible applications. But how does this translate to the client-side? Isn’t a ‘single-page-application’ fundamentally at odds with modularity? In this session we take a look at the currently available tools for modularity in JavaScript. There are several ways you can combine existing JavaScript module systems with OSGi-based development on the backend. We discuss tradeoffs between these different approaches based on real-world experience with large JavaScript front-ends and OSGi back-ends. In particular an example combining OSGi, RequireJS and AngularJS is presented. Along with practical advice based on current technology, we also look forward at relevant upcoming standards such as Web Components. After this session you’ll have a solid grasp of modular JavaScript development in an OSGi world. Currently he works as Senior Software Engineer for Luminis Technologies, specializing in modular Java and JavaScript development. Additionally, data analysis and machine learning are part of his ever growing list of interests. A micro frontend architecture is an approach to developing web applications as a composition of small frontend apps. Instead of writing a large monolith frontend application, the application can be broken down into domain-specific micro frontends, which are self-contained and can be developed and deployed independently. Each micro frontend can be owned by verticalised domain specific teams. Micro frontends do have advantages and disadvantages and they are not suitable in many cases.
