3. Introduction:
Tiznit city is located in the south of
Morocco, only 90km away from Agadir,
and 15km away from Aglou Beach.
It’s difficult to define chronologically the
history of Tiznit, since most of its
population only know some memories
and mysterious information, but it is well
known that it was founded in 1881 by
Hassan I.
Tiznit is a sister city with Somerville,
Boston, The USA and Saint-Denis in

The location of Tiznit was chosen
thanks to its being close to the Atlantic
ocean, and the fact that the place was
already inhabited by Azaghigh
population.
The city is surrounded by an historical
wall of 7km length, and 8m height,
which took 2 years to build. It has 5
doors, and 56 tower.

7. Tourism in Tiznit:
Our city receives many tourists going
to different destinations and cities, for
it is located in the crossroad to
Tafraout, Geulmim, Agadir. Also Tiznit
is rich with many great historical
monuments such as El-Ein Al Zarqua
‘The Blue Fountain’, Al Quasr Al-
Khalifi, The Big Mosque…
But yet it needs more modern
facilities, so it can be more known.

9. Tiznit and Somerville:
The CPE is an ambitious mutual exchange
program which links the communities and
people of Somerville and Tiznit with the
goal of developing avenues of collaboration
and partnerships that benefit youth
development and employment in both
communities.
The first phase of the CPE took place
between April 18 and April 24, 2011 with 20
Somerville residents from different social
backgrounds and professions traveled to
Tiznit to meet and collaborate with their
professional counterparts in Tiznit with the
focus of youth development, employment,
and the cultivation of 21st century job skills.
