FRANCE ENERGIES MARINES is devoted to marine
renewable energies. The research institute supports the
growth of this new industrial sector and covers the
whole range of MRE, namely fixed and floating offshore
wind, tidal, wave power and ocean thermal energy
conversion.
Built around a large public-private partnership, FRANCE
ENERGIES MARINES enhances synergies between
academics and industrial players through multi-
disciplinary research projects and teams.
The institute involves 10 academic and scientific
entities, over 12 industrial players (including 5 large
groups), 2 maritime clusters and 6 regional authorities.

As an engineering and project management firm in the
field of tidal turbines, SABELLA installed in June 2015 its
Sabella D10 device, a 1 MW and 10 meter diameter
marine current turbine, in the Fromveur strait off
Bretagne’s coast.
Grid connected to Ushant remote grid since September,
SABELLA enhance its insular energy model and focus on
autonomous grid niche markets all over the world.

GUINARD ENERGIES, designer of tidal turbines
GUINARD ENERGIES was created in 2008, by a team of
French industrial sector managers, the aim being to
design MegaWattBlue®, a second generation ducted
tidal turbine.
GUINARD ENERGIES activities:
• Conceptual and modelling studies, testing of models
in a towing basin.
• In situ measurements to know the exact proportion of
the tidal resource that can be converted into
electricity.
• Construction, implementation, testing and
certification in real sites (sea and river).
• Industrialization and engineering services, costs and
competiveness studies for worldwide industrial
deployment.
