Background   International travel is a rapidly growing activity entailing   cross-cultural communication   between hosts and guests from different linguistic background. ( Blue & Harum, 2003)
Background   Fluent use of English   is the key to assuring the success the hotel service to international visitors. (Shieh, 2009)

Statement of the Problems Students had been trained their tourism English at colleges, however, they do not perform well as expected.
Purposes of the Study 1.   to investigate whether college students’  English skills are prepared to meet  industrial needs and well prepared for the  future jobs. 2. to investigate whether industrial employers  are satisfied with college students’ English competence and knowledge toward tourism.

[object Object],Tourism English Tourism English – refers to language and communication for hotels, restaurants and catering transportation, tours, ticketing and itineraries, report facilities, and various support retail services as well as handing money, giving or dealing with complaints. English was ranked as the ‘most important’,  clearly ahead of the other languages.   (Leslie & Russell, 2006) Importance of Tourism English in Taiwan English & Tourism
  English is an important language to    constantly be used in hotels and leisure    clubs. (Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism, 1995)     English & Tourism Importance of Tourism English in Taiwan
  Relationship between employees’ English capability & business of hotel industry  Competency in English brings a range of benefits to the organization as well as the tourism sector.  (Kennett, 2002) Importance of Tourism English in Taiwan

ESP & Tourism English  One of the fundamental academic subject taught is English for Tourism, an English for occupational purpose (EOP) course of study which  is one of many types of (ESP).   (Robinson, 1991) Importance of Tourism English in Taiwan
TE Courses needs for the job A couple of students mentioned that the real situation on site did not allow them to fully display their knowledge and skills to the visitor.    (Lo & Sheu, 2008) Satisfactions with Tourism English
A student of a tourism management degree should graduate with FL skills in order to enhance employment opportunities within tourism industries. (Leslie & Russell, 2006) Acquired English competency for Future Job
