Training: Reducing Fall Risk in Older Adults
Fall Prevention
Introduction:
Training for health professionals and caregivers of older adults help
to eliminate falling or perhaps reduce the risk of falls. Whether you are
a family member or a health care provider, trainings teach, and provide
information in this area to bring awareness to some safety measures
for the purpose of prevention in older adults.
Description and Purpose:
The purpose of this training is to update, and educate nurses, physical therapists, and
other healthcare providers on safety practices to prevent and reduce harm to patients.
Also, to provide strategies, and steps they can take to prevent falls while patients are
hospitalized or in the home.
Target Audience:
Training is designed for nurses, physical therapists, and healthcare providers. The audience should possess good communication skills,
have patience, and be able to clearly explain treatment, and care to patients. The audience should also be compassionate, a good listener to
listen to patients and their concerns. Time management skills and being resourceful are both good characteristics of this audience.
Length of Training:
The training required is an 8 hour training. The design for the presentation is scheduled for 2 days of training, for 4 hours each day.
Goals for the Training:
A. To increase fall prevention knowledge in healthcare workers.
B. Introduce some steps or strategies that can be used to reduce the
risk of falling.
C. Help healthcare providers improve the well-being of the patients
they care for.
D. Provide some resources that can be used with the patients to
reduce the risk.
Resources:
*A Toolkit packed with strategies that can be implemented when working with patients.
* Videos for instruction and reviews on what to do, when to do, and how to do when advising patients.
*Computers, iPads
*Hand-outs such as copies of Power Point
Individuals Involved:
Training coach/facilitator, nurses, physical therapists, home health aides. The facilitator will guide the learners through the entire training, motivating,
and engaging them in the training from the beginning until the end.
Implementation of the Plan:
First I will make sure the audience understands the purpose, goals, and
objectives for the training. Space in the training will be made for interactive
learning, rather than just listening to the facilitator, All the tools, and
materials will be utilized for peer interactions, and the power point will be
used by the audience to guide them with each part of the training session.
Hands-on activities will be done to measure how well the audience is
understanding the material and also, a question and answer time. The
question and answer time, will allow for feedback which is a good indicator
of how well t he learner is processing the information. As students talk to
each other, I will assess the learning process.
Evaluation Instruments:
The evaluation instruments must align with the objectives of the training. Observations, Questions, and Interviews will be used to
determine whether the participants meet the learning goals
Observations: Observe the participants’ body language, interaction to determine whether they are learning.
Questions: Using questions to extract information from the learner can be used to test the knowledge of the participants.
Interviews: Interviewing the participants can judge the extent of their understanding of the training material.
