introduction catalysis is:
Is the increase in the rate of a chemical reaction of two or
more reactants due to the participation of an additional
substance .
When using a catalyst it is possible to replace a polluting
chemical reaction with a more environmentally friendly
alternative.
1st Activity: The decomposition of H2O2 using yeast as
a catalyst
1- yeast 2- water 5- hydrogen
peroxide
3- soap 4- color dye
Our material:
1- we mix the yeast with water.
2- put the color on soap.
3- after that we should mix the
mixture of yeast with soap
4- add the hydrogen peroxide
To produce oxygen by using
hydrogen peroxide with soap
and yeast reaction.

Heterogeneous Acid Catalysis
Label 3 beakers
1- Add catalyst beads to beakers labeled with
catalyst
2- Add hot tap water into 3 foam cups.
3- Add hot methyl acetate solution to the beakers
labeled methyl acetate.
4- Add hot distill water into the beaker labeled
distilled water.

Act.4:Using a Metal Catalyst to Degrade an Air
Pollutant
Procedure: (Hydrogen nitride=Ammonia)
1.Obtain the metal catalyst: copper granules, copper
turnings, and iron fibers.
2. Set up apparatus as show.
3. Place catalyst into the reaction tube to make a 2.5 cm
length in the center of the glass tube. Use glass wool as
stoppers if copper granules are used.

because it uses light energy and converts it chemical
energy (photosynthesis).
• Students investigate the breakdown of methylene blue
in the presence of a catalyst and light. The solution
goes from deep blue to light blue or clear at short or
long times, depending on the light source.

  • 3. introduction catalysis is: Is the increase in the rate of a chemical reaction of two or more reactants due to the participation of an additional substance . When using a catalyst it is possible to replace a polluting chemical reaction with a more environmentally friendly alternative.
  • 4. 1st Activity: The decomposition of H2O2 using yeast as a catalyst 1- yeast 2- water 5- hydrogen peroxide 3- soap 4- color dye Our material:
