BALA MANIKANTA-16MIS0318
Introduction:
 The Department of Posts comes under the Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology.
 For providing postal services, the whole country has been divided into twenty two postal
circles.
 In the recent past, Internet and e-mail have revolutionized the world of communications. At
the same time, accessibility to email continuous to be a major problem for many people,
especially in the rural areas. In its endeavor to make the benefits of e-mail available to
everyone and to bridge the digital divide, Department of Posts has introduced e post service.
 Through e post customers can send their messages to any address in India with a
combination of electronic transmission and physical delivery through a network of more
than 1,55,000 Post Offices. E post sends messages as a soft copy through internet and at the
destination it will be delivered to the addressee in the form of hard copy. e-post costs just Rs
. 10 per page of A4 size.
 E-post can also be availed by the corporate customers, by having a business agreement with
India Post. Corporate customers will get special e post rates and other value additions.
Vision:
 The vision lies in focusing on those rural areas of India which face problems of
accessing internet facilities and therefore have to depend on “slow and unreliable”
postal service.
 The e-Post System delivers their requests at their doorstep and that too, with the
flashing speed of internet.
 It marks the eradication of the entire middle-ware of the postal transaction i.e. Transfer
from source to destination within no time.
AIM:
To Provide
Reliable parcel service.
Faster money transfer.
Trace and Track the post that you send.
Make payments online in a single click

Can Apply one Nominee.
Postal Life Insurance (PLI):
 PLI was introduced on 1st February 1884 with the express approval of the
Secretary of State (for India) to Her Majesty, the Queen Empress of India.
In 1894, PLI extended insurance cover to female employees of P & T Department
at a time when no other insurance company covered female lives.
 It is the oldest Life insurer in this country.
 In the beginning, the upper limit of life insurance was only Rs 4000/- which has
now increased to Rs 50 lakh.
 Over the years, PLI has grown substantially from a few hundred policies in 1884
to more than 6.4 millions policies as on 31.03.2015.
 Government Employees are only Eligible for applying PLI.
No Private Sector are allowed to apply PLI.
 PLI is only the Company with less premium and More Benefits.
 One Employee can apply Policies for two children.

Rural Policy Life Insurance (RPLI):
In 1993, The Committee had observed that only 22% of the insurable population
in this country had been insured; life insurance funds accounted for only 10% of
the gross household savings.
 On request of Malhotra committee, Government of India allowed Postal Life
Insurance to extend its coverage to the rural areas to transact life insurance
business with effect from 24.3.1995, mainly because of the vast network of Post
Offices in the rural areas and low cost of operations.
 The prime objective of the scheme is to provide insurance cover to the rural
public in general and to benefit weaker sections and women workers of rural
areas in particular and also to spread insurance awareness among the rural
population.
 As on 31.03.2015, we have more than 23.51 million RPLI policies.
