The Department of Posts comes under the Ministry of Communications and Information
Technology.
For providing postal services, the whole country has been divided into twenty two postal
circles.
In the recent past, Internet and e-mail have revolutionized the world of communications. At
the same time, accessibility to email continuous to be a major problem for many people,
especially in the rural areas. In its endeavor to make the benefits of e-mail available to
everyone and to bridge the digital divide, Department of Posts has introduced e post service.
Through e post customers can send their messages to any address in India with a
combination of electronic transmission and physical delivery through a network of more
than 1,55,000 Post Offices. E post sends messages as a soft copy through internet and at the
destination it will be delivered to the addressee in the form of hard copy. e-post costs just Rs
. 10 per page of A4 size.
E-post can also be availed by the corporate customers, by having a business agreement with
India Post. Corporate customers will get special e post rates and other value additions.
3. Vision:
The vision lies in focusing on those rural areas of India which face problems of
accessing internet facilities and therefore have to depend on “slow and unreliable”
postal service.
The e-Post System delivers their requests at their doorstep and that too, with the
flashing speed of internet.
It marks the eradication of the entire middle-ware of the postal transaction i.e. Transfer
from source to destination within no time.

5. TECHNOLOGY USED IN E-POST OFFICE IS
GIS:
In collaboration with the Department of Space, India Post has geo-tagged over
1.5 lakh post offices on the indigenous geo-portal Bhuvan, developed by ISRO,
to help people search the nearest post office and know about services and
timings.
More than 1,50,000 post offices have been geo-tagged and their exact location
on a GIS satellite imagery map along with photograph, services and office
timings ,tracking etc have been made available on the portal.
Bhuvan, developed by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), is
providing visualisation services and earth observation data to users in public
domain.

Bhuvan, started in 2009 with simple display of satellite data and basic GIS
functionality, now has more than 6,000 map services which are being used under
various applications.

E-post is the easiest way to send posts to the far with in less time
E-post has a certain procedure mentioned bellow as steps
Step-1: Sender needs to write the post and submit it to the nearest post office at his
Town/place.
Step-2: The post mentor will send the Softcopy of the post to the Receiver’s Post
office
Step-3: The Post is Printed as Hardcopy at Receivers post office and then it will give
to the area Postman.
Step-4: The area postman will deliver the post to the Receiver at their address
Mentioned on Post.
The above Mentioned procedure is for those who wants to send the Hard copy to
Someone.
If Receiver has an account in e-post then the Sender can easily Send the post directly
through the website.
Through the E-post website, User can send the posts/Messages in PDF format, Text
Format and Scan Format(Nothing but Scanned paper containing text or picture).
Charges will apply for the posts send by you according to the category of Post.
10. Picture Should be of 710×890 pixels.
PDF file should be of 1 MB and if you upload n pages then after uploading it
will be of ‘n+1’ pages. The Extra Page will be added by Servers Automatically.
For Sending Text Messages, We Should download Font Styles and Font sizes.
Through E-post we can send Scan Messages, PDF Messages, Text Messages.
We can Send greetings Through E-post.
The Cost is 10 rupees per each e-post.

13. INSURANCE
There are Mainly Two types of Insurances. They are: Postal Life Insurance (PLI)
and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI).
Eligibility: All Government and Semi-government Employees.
Less Premium and More Benefits.
Can Apply one Nominee.
Postal Life Insurance (PLI):
PLI was introduced on 1st February 1884 with the express approval of the
Secretary of State (for India) to Her Majesty, the Queen Empress of India.
In 1894, PLI extended insurance cover to female employees of P & T Department
at a time when no other insurance company covered female lives.
It is the oldest Life insurer in this country.
In the beginning, the upper limit of life insurance was only Rs 4000/- which has
now increased to Rs 50 lakh.
Over the years, PLI has grown substantially from a few hundred policies in 1884
to more than 6.4 millions policies as on 31.03.2015.
14. Government Employees are only Eligible for applying PLI.
No Private Sector are allowed to apply PLI.
PLI is only the Company with less premium and More Benefits.
One Employee can apply Policies for two children.
after Retirement or resigning, one can continue their Insurance policy from any
of 1.5 lakh post offices.
Rural Policy Life Insurance (RPLI):
In 1993, The Committee had observed that only 22% of the insurable population
in this country had been insured; life insurance funds accounted for only 10% of
the gross household savings.
On request of Malhotra committee, Government of India allowed Postal Life
Insurance to extend its coverage to the rural areas to transact life insurance
business with effect from 24.3.1995, mainly because of the vast network of Post
Offices in the rural areas and low cost of operations.
The prime objective of the scheme is to provide insurance cover to the rural
public in general and to benefit weaker sections and women workers of rural
areas in particular and also to spread insurance awareness among the rural
population.
As on 31.03.2015, we have more than 23.51 million RPLI policies.
15. Benefits of PLI/RPLI:
A PLI/RPLI policy holder also gets following facilities :
• Change of nomination.
• The insurant can take loan by pledging his/her policy to Heads of the
Circle/Region on behalf of President of India, provided the policy has completed
3 years in case of Endowment Assurance and 4 years in case of Whole Life
Assurance. The facility of assignment is also available.
• Assignment of Policy to any Financial Institution for taking loan.
• Revival of his/her lapsed policy. Policy lapses after 6 unpaid premiums if it
remained in force for less than 3 years and after 12 unpaid premiums if it
remained in force for more than 3 years.
• Issue of Duplicate Policy Bond in case of the original Policy Bond is lost,
burnt/torn/mutilation.
• Conversion from Whole Life Assurance to Endowment Assurance and from
Endowment Assurance to other Endowment Assurance as per rules.
16. MONEY ORDER:
• A minimum of Rs.1/- and a maximum of Rs. 5000./- can be sent through
eMO.
• eMO is a web based rapid money transfer service offered by India Post
between two individuals within India.
• Money booked through eMO can be disbursed within 24 hours.
• Money can be sent from any eMO center. A simple “To Remit Payment” form
is to be filled up and submitted along with the remittance amount and
commission at the eMO counter. A printed receipt is issued to the remitter.
• If the money is being sent through the e Post Office, then the remitter is to
go online, register the account and fill in the online booking form. After the
online booking form is completed the customer should press submit and this
will take him then to the payment gateway site where online payment will
be processed. Thereafter the receipt will be generated and the reference
number on the receipt can be used for further correspondence if required.

18. TO SEARCH PINCODE AND POSTOFFICE:
Online search facility to get post offices details by providing pincode and post office name
is given.
Users can enter the pincode or state name to get the post office name along with the
district corresponding to that pincode. Conversely users can enter a post office name to
get its pincode. One can also search for post offices by district or state name to get list of
all post offices situated in that particular state or district.
19. Track your postal consignments online:
Track your postal consignment and mail items online with the help of
consignment number as provided by the Indian Post. The tracking
system is updated periodically to provide you with the most current
information available about the location and status of your item.
Services come under this facility are speed post (domestic EMS),
international EMS, electronic money order, registered mail, express
parcel, electronic value payable parcel etc.
20. File your complaints online for postal services:
Lodge or file your complaints online for postal services of Department of Posts.
A complaint can be filed or lodged for cases of loss of parcels, non-delivery or wrong delivery
of article, non-refund of charges, non receipt of acknowledgement, etc. For lodging
complaints, users have to fill up an online form with particulars such as transaction type,
complaint type, date of transaction, details of transaction and destination post offices,
sender and addressee details etc. Search options for post offices across different states and
districts are also provided in the form to assist users while filing complaints.
