2. Choosing Technology for the PLUNGE
How do we embark on selecting technology that can really maximise learning
yet make our lives easier?
We have to choose technology that is:
Versatile and flexible
Easy to use
Offers opportunities for varied online interaction – blog, discussion forum
Reliable
Cost – Schoology is a true open source software and offers a robust BASIC
version that is totally FREE and functional to a large extent.
3. What is Schoology?
Schoology is a social networking service and virtual learning
environment that allows educators to create, manage and share
academic content. It can be an LMS or a CMS but it is a cloud –
based platform that provides tools that are essential for managing
an online classroom.
Visually and functionally similar to Facebook the service
includes attendance records, online grade book, tests and quizzes,
and homework drop boxes. The social media features facilitate
collaboration among a class, a group, or a school. What is most
impressive about schoology is that; it is monitored by educators
and it is almost always functioning.
