10. Methods of marketing / advertising
I have decided to distribute my
magazine nationally because as the
new duo that are promoted in the
magazine are from the north east of
the UK this will firstly help with the
promotion of the magazine as friends
and family and other people from the
UK specifically in the North East will
purchase the magazine to support the
artists. If this is successful I would then
distribute internationally because a
large proportion of rap music fans are
located in America as this is where this
specific genre of music thrives.
• Social media – Research taken from:

10years/2015_Adults_media_use_and_attitudes_report.pdf (2007- 2014).
States that 93% of people aged 16-24 use social media.
• Public transport
(Adverts)
11. What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why ?
• Digitally publish magazines:
- Some public transport allows you to have free WIFI
therefore allowing readers to access my magazine
easier.
• Published (Wordplay – all about Hip-hop , style
and graffiti culture )
12. What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why ?
• The media institution that would be best to distribute my magazine if my magazine manages
to go internationally, is XXL, there are many other positive factors surrounding using Harris
publication as a distributor.
• One of these are that the company already distributes 10 music magazines , therefore this
will give me an advantage, as they will already be experienced in marketing , and will have
knowledge and strategies for distributing to appeal to a target audience similar to my target
audience.
13. Existing media products of Harris Publication (XXL music magazine)
• Similar artists
• Similar representations
• Similar use of Mise en scène
• Similar structure (more image)
14. Who would be the target audience for your media product?
• Males – This is because of the fact that with in this particular genre of music the
majority of fans are males, therefore I have chosen this target audience so that the
magazine has the maximum chance appealing to fans of this music genre.
(Research )Black Masculinity in the Obama Era: Outliers of Society: Found that 87%
of males has a positive attitude towards rap where as 93% of females had a negative
attitude to rap.
• (age) 16- 25 years old – I have chosen this particular age range , due to the fact that
people of this age , generally have more time to be able to read these magazines ,
also more of a disposable income on things such as clothes , magazines , food.
• Middle class / working class – I have decided to chose to aim the magazine at both
working class and middle class. I have decided to chose to aim the magazine at
working class. Due to research conducted 1,595 telephone interviews with people from
a range of backgrounds , found Music by rappers like 50 Cent tends to be most enjoyed
by the lower classes. Furthermore I have chosen to aim the magazine at middle class
due to the fact that the clothing I have used in my magazine are high end brands such
as Stussy , Ralph Lauren. So by using these brands it allows the target audience to
engage with artists through similar interests.
15. How did you attract / address your target audience ?
• Informal language: To allow the audience to feel more included in the close knit community
of rap as slang is essentially another language.
• Mise en scène: (brands of clothing) Helps to close the gap between the artist and audience
through making the audience feel like the artists image is easily obtainable.
• Incorporated references from semantic field associated with rap: For example drug
references, I have done this because it allows the music to be incorporated in the magazine
as these are popular references that are also used in the music.
• Popular artists – I researched my target audiences favourite artists and added in the artist’s
that were chosen more than 5 times. The magazine promotes new artists , by adding in
consistent popular artists , it is more likely that people will purchase the magazine by feeling
like it is not much of a gamble on whether or not they will be interested in new artist’s.

The main thing that helped me to
construct my music magazine
better than my school magazine
was following more conventions /
research.
Notes de l'éditeur
– magazine branding and also the contents page title unique which would help the brand to grow and be easily recognisable, taken the same approach of having the text colour white and the background dark in order to create a high contrast so that the text is highlighted and so that it is legible.- Rule of thirds( my magazine has been laid out so that
I have used the convention of having quotes directly from the artist , I have also taken the convention of having informal language such as taboo language and also using words that belong to semantic fields that are associated with rap music culture : drugs I have also taken the conventions of having the artists looking directly at the camera
More text to allow for the magazine to be more serious and because my magazine is a new magazine I would have to start of by imputing a lot of text so that peopl
Ethnic minority groups – my music magazine is not particularly aimed at any ethnic minority groups , however it is swayed over to black people in terms of the use of models as only one of them is from a white ethnicity , however I have done this because it allows for a more realistic view approach on rap music as the majority of famous rap artists are black and also the target for rap music is predominantly also black. I have represented people of a white ethnicity and of a black ethnicity as being very confident and aggressive , as you can see I have done this through the Mise en scene of the models , because the stance of the models Gender- My magazine is very gender specific through both the target audience of the magazine and the models appearing in the magazine
(Firstly nationally with Issuu then internationally)Wordplay – In my magazine I have insured that I use popular brands to close the gap between the artist and audience through making the audience feel like the artists image is easily obtainable. Focus’s on my music genre.
I have learnt that it is better to use natural lighting rather than artificial lighting so that the photos are of an higher quality and therefore more detailed , also I have positioned the duo so that there is natural shadowing in the photo to allow
