How to
Remember
Tips usedin how to remember
1. Repeat the information
2. Study it loud
3. Study of LOCI
4. Chunking
5. Mnemonics
1. Repeat the informationRepeat the
Information
• If you want to remember what you studied,
you have to review and repeat the information.
e.g. advertisement
• The German psychologist Hermann
ebbinghaus who was pioneered the
experimental study of memory and is known
as discovery of the forgetting curve and
spacing effect.
• He was the first person who described the
learning curve.
Space interval
First review Immediately
Second review 24 hours later
Third review 1 week later
Fourth review 1 month later
Fifth review 3 month later
2. Study it loud
Study it loud
• Identify the key words that you have to
remember .
• Now read few 4-5 sentences silently after that
Read 4-5 sentences loudly
• Compare which one was better ?
• Do you think the ones you read loudly was
better ? If it was better why ?
• When we are studying or talking or
pronouncing the words loudly we will here
the words in our own voice. This is an audio
input. then we will make a visual connection
as well as audio connection to that
information.
Studyof LOCI
(location/place)
• If you want to remember the list and
answer in sequence this is very useful tips
in that.
• In this method, you have to use location,
places, and spots that you are very
familiar to that place, you have spent a lot
of time in and you know very well about
that place. E.g. home
Study of LOCI
Grocery list
1. Tomatoes
2. Breads
3. Shaving cream
4. Mangoes
5. Pen
Study of LOCI
Location and sub location of home
1. Entry – sub location is doors
2. Drawing room – sub location sofa
3. Kitchen – sub location stove area
4. Bedroom – sub location lamp
5. Wash room – sub location bath tub
Study of LOCI
Putting the words at sub location
Doors – tomatoes
Sofa – bread
Stove area – shaving cream
Lamp – mangoes
Bath tub – pen
• If the list is very high then we have to be used
this method because of our short term
memory.
e.g. muscle, bone, ligaments and list of foods.
• So you have to chunk or divide the list into
different categories as according to the nature,
characteristic, and points.
e.g. list of animals
List of animals
Rabbit Octopus Hippo Cat
Warthog Crow Elephant Shark
Dog Tuna Dolphin Giraffe
Pigeon Peacock
List of animals
Rabbit Tuna Crow Warthog Hippo
Dog Shark Peacock Octopus Elephant
Cats Dolphin Pigeon Crocodile Giraffe
List of animals
Pets Water Birds Ugly Huge
Rabbit Tuna Crow Warthog Hippo
Dog Shark Peacock Octopus Elephant
Cats Dolphin Pigeon Crocodile Giraffe
Examples:
• Phone numbers 8605554589, but rather 860-
555-4589.
• Birthdates are typically not recalled by
11261995, but rather 11/26/1995.
5. Mnemonics
It is of three types –
A. Acronyms
B. Acrostics
C. Rhymes
Acronyms
In this method the first alphabet of that words,
separate it and make a words.
E.g. – Rainbow color - ROY G BIV
R – red
O – orange
Y – yellow
G – green
B – blue
I – indigo
V – violet
Acronyms
• ADL - Activities of daily living
• CBC - Complete blood count
• CPR - Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• ECG - Electrocardiogram
• EEG - Electroencephalogram
• ICU - Intensive care unit
• NPO - Nothing by mouth
• ROM - Range of motion
• TPR - Temperature, pulse, respiration
Acronyms
If you want to remember the qualities of
NURSE then use
N – Nobility
U – Understanding
R – Responsible
S – Sympathy
E – Empathy
Acrostic
In this if you want to memorize the 12
cranial nerves, you can use this method
because that words are meaningless so we
have to make a meaningful line to
remember it.

forms, so increase the chances to memorize it.
e.g. in 1942, quit India movement hua shuru
