Geotechnical engineers test soil and get samples from the soil (core
samples) so that when earthquakes come the skyscrapers won't fall and
break.

Similar
The model represents how they build the skyscrapers and how
they use the pier foundations.
Different
When we shook our models it looked like a earthquake but in real life
hands don't just come out of no where and shake the earth.

EARTHQUAKE
1.Topsoil was unstable during the earthquake
2.Sand was unstable and fell during the earthquake
3.Clay was unstable and fell during the earthquake
4.Bedrock was stable and did not fall during the earthquake
5. ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES OF BEDROCK
Advantages
The structure won't be damaged.
It'll be stable in the bedrock and not
shake a lot.
Disadvantages
It takes a long time to dig that deep
It'll take a lot of money
And it's going to be hard to repair
6. WHY DID THE PIER
FOUNDATIONS HELP?
The pier foundation help cause the skyscraper to be stable since it goes
down deep in the layers. Also, they help the skyscrapers from falling
and breaking into pieces everywhere.
7. WHAT LAYER I WOULD
RECOMMEND
I would recommend bedrock
because even though it takes
a long time to dig, the building
will not fall down and break,
so you wouldn't have to
rebuild it all the time.
