Academic Center of Metro Manila
Our school is located in Quezon City – the largest
city in Metro Manila in terms of land area. This city
prides itself in being not only the greenest area with
the cleanest air in the metropolis but also host to
the country’s premier universities: University of the
Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University.
The city is also home to a good number of modern
commercial establishments that offer shopping,
dining, entertainment, and leisure options.
Adequate Facilities
The school’s facilities feature sufficient one-on-one
class rooms ideal for individualized instruction,
rooms for group discussion and listening class, and a
multi-purpose room that can seat 40 to 50 students
for special events and activities.
Adaptable English Language Programs
We offer a wide range of English language programs
that can meet specific needs of individuals –
whether they are beginners wishing to learn to
speak English, students desiring to pursue academic
studies in English-speaking universities and colleges
or businessmen and professionals requiring
adequate English communication skills in their daily
transactions in our global economy.
Quality-assured Teaching
To ensure quality teaching, we set performance
targets for the teaching staff, evaluate their work
monthly, and conduct regular skills enhancement
trainings in response to students’ feedback and the
results of periodic teacher’s proficiency exams.
Monitoring Student’s Progress
On the first day, a student’s initial language skills are
measured. These serve as the base upon which the
student’s subsequent progress will be compared.
Performance in all classes is monitored weekly, and
in determining how much language skills have been
acquired, a standard monthly language proficiency
test is given. The test results are then discussed
thoroughly with each student through personalized
consultation sessions with our academic affairs
specialist dedicated for such task.

Basic Programs
ESL Programs
Our ESL Programs are designed to equip individual
learners with basic communication skills by
developing both their receptive (listening and
reading) and productive (speaking and writing)
language skills. The ESL programs are of three types:
Intensive A
A six hour daily course consisting of 2 hours one-on-
one instruction on reading and writing (MODULE), 1
hour one-on-one instruction on speaking (OPIC), 1
hour small group discussion, and 2 hour small group
listening class.
Intensive B
A six hour daily course comprised by 2 hours one-
on-one instruction on reading and writing
(MODULE), 1 hour one-on-one instruction on
speaking (OPIC), 1 hour one-on-one instruction on
vocabulary (WAP), and 2 hour small group listening
class.
Main Intensive
An eight hour daily course inclusive of 2 hours one-
vocabulary (WAP), 2 hours small group listening
class, and 2 hours small group discussion class.
Sparta RST Program
The aim of our Sparta RST Program is simple and
straightforward: to learn English in a much quicker
and more effective way through total immersion in a
fun, activity-filled English speaking environment, 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
The program is a total of ten hours daily study, eight
of which follows the Main Intensive curriculum,
concluded in the dormitory with 2 hours of nightly
remedial study time that focuses on vocabulary and
speech enrichment classes.
Students under this program may also choose
between two special modes of accommodation: 2+1
Premium where 2 students room in with 1 resident
teacher for continuous exposure to the language in
a practical setting; and 1+1 Exclusive where only 1
student rooms in with 1 resident teacher for a truly
focused exposure to the language for quickest
progress in speaking proficiency.

Junior ESL Program
We acknowledge the definite advantages of starting
English language education at a young age, which is
why we have a purposely designed ESL program
specifically for young students.
Managed and supervised under a separate Junior
ESL Department, the Junior ESL Program utilizes a
well-rounded approach at developing and
sharpening all the four macro skills of young
learners. Specially designed curriculum and
textbooks and stricter monitoring and supervision of
students ensure significant, sustained progress of
learners.
Junior Presentations and Events
Similar to the adult ESL Program, the Junior Program
also has activities that serve as means for young
students to apply what they have learned. These
are individual and group presentations, language
proficiency contests, speech and essay writing
competitions and many others.
To supplement the 6 to 8 hours of day time learning
in the school, additional 2 to 3 hours of evening
classes are conducted by our resident teachers, in a
separate dormitory for junior students, to maximize
their study time with us.

Special Programs
English Language Test Preparation Programs
We offer programs that will develop specific test
taking skills of individuals to enable them to achieve
their desired scores when they take the various
English language proficiency exams administered
worldwide. These programs are as follow:
TOEIC Test Preparation Program
Originally conceived in Japan and created by the US-
based Educational Testing Service (ETS), the TOEIC
test is designed to measure the everyday English
skills of people working in an international
environment.
Our TOEIC Test Preparation Program is an 8 hour
daily class consisting of 4 hours one-one individual
instruction on reading and writing plus 4 hours of
small group study on speaking and listening.
TOEFL iBT Test Preparation Program
Also developed by ETS of the USA, the TOEFL iBT test
is a test administered via the Internet and measures
a person’s ability to use and understand English at
the university level. It is often an admission
requirement in most American and Canadian
universities for foreign students from countries
where English is not the native language.
This program is also an 8 hour daily class comprised
by 4 hours one-on-one tutorial on reading and
writing complimented by 4 hours of small group
study on speaking and listening.
IELTS Test Preparation Program
IELTS is an exam that assesses the English language
proficiency of speakers of other languages. The
assessment is recognized by most universities and
educational institutions in the UK, Australia, Canada,
the US, and New Zealand. This exam is most often a
requirement for admission into higher education
and vocational training institutions, and for
immigration to British Commonwealth countries.
Our IELTS Test Preparation Program is an 8 hour
daily class which consists of 4 hours one-on-one
small group study for speaking and listening. (For
those lower level learners who expect to take the
official IELTS exam in the near future, we offer also a
Pre-IELTS Program.)
We also have, at student’s option, a special
Warranty Term in which individuals enrolled under
such term are guaranteed a partial refund of either
their CNN tuition or IELTS testing fee, whichever is
applicable, if they fail to achieve a pre-determined
target band score. Such warranty term requires that
students are enrolled for a minimum of 12 weeks
and shall abide by all the rules under the warranty
term.

Business English Program
Our Business English Program is offered to business
and corporate professionals who need to
significantly develop and sharpen their business
communication skills and competence for an ever
globalizing business world.
Our extensive Business English Program consists of 4
hours of one-one-one individual instruction on
business conversation and vocabulary, reading and
writing business articles, letters and reports, plus 4
hours of group study on discussion, business
presentation, and listening.
Customized ESL Program
Our Customized Program is perfect for individuals
who need to study ESL but also wish to take special
classes to meet their other personal or professional
needs. This Program’s best feature is its
adaptability; students can choose from among our
various available special classes and the number of
hours they will devote to ESL and their chosen
special class.

In response to the growing demand for specialized
courses, we are proud to offer this line-up of English
for Specific Purpose (ESP) classes as additional
options to our Customized Programs:
 English for Accounting
This class aims to develop English language
skills in accounting and finance as well as the
ability to communicate in meetings,
presentations, and casual work chats.
 English for Engineering
This class builds skills to describe, and explain
materials, processes, designs, faults, and
problems common in engineering using
technical and non-technical vocabulary and
expressions.
 English for Hotel and Tourism
This class develops skills in speaking with and
understanding guests in various hotel
operations such as front desk, booking and
reservation, bar and dining room services,
guest requests and complaints, and others.
 English for Law
This class is for legal practitioners who need
legal English skills to communicate with foreign
colleagues or clients. This is also useful for
businessmen to help them better understand
commercial agreements and transactions.
 English for Marketing
This class develops the skills to describe and
discuss business ideas and concepts related to
marketing, advertising, and sales by using
vocabulary and expressions learned through
related articles and exercises.
 English for Medicine
This class develops the ability to communicate
with patients, their relatives, medical
personnel, and other hospital staff. The class
uses communicative, task-based activities that
simulate practical healthcare work situations.
 English for Nursing
This class aims to build language skills in key
areas of nursing work such as taking patient’s
history, giving instructions and advice,
communicating with doctors and other medical
staff, checking medication for accuracy, reading
reports and others.
 TESOL Principles and Practices
This non-certificate class is for teachers who
teach English language to non-native speakers.
The class gives an overview of the theories,
teaching methodologies, strategies and
materials preparation for the effective teaching
of English.

Our Customized Business English Program is
designed for businessmen and professionals who
want to acquire competence in Business English
communication in general supplemented by
additional skills on a specific aspect of business
which the individual has a special need or
preference for.
This program features 6 hours of the core Business
English Program with a supplement of 2 hours of
CNN-prescribed ESP classes as detailed below:

One-on-One Rooms
To facilitate effective learning through individual
instruction, we provide one-on-one rooms where a
student can enjoy the undivided attention of one
instructor whose teaching tasks in turn remain
centered on the student’s learning responses.
Small Group Discussion Rooms
Small group discussion rooms promote focused and
sustained interaction among a maximum of five
students and one teacher who moderates the
discussion with the aim of eliciting responses and
active participation from the group members.
Listening Rooms
Not all English language schools feature listening
classes as an integral part of their basic curriculum.
In CNN, we do. We have a total of four, decent-
sized listening rooms that can comfortably
accommodate a maximum of 12 students. The
rooms are sound insulated to block outside noise.
Study Room
We acknowledge the importance of quiet, self-study
time and believe it reinforces all lessons students
have learned from their instructors in the
classrooms. We provide a room precisely for this
purpose, and it can seat as many as 32 individuals.

Through the years, our Multi-Purpose Room has
been the venue of countless activities that give
students valuable opportunities to apply what they
have learned - from individual and group
presentations, cultural appreciation exhibitions,
language proficiency competitions, public speaking,
and many others.

chat with friends and classmates, the canteen is just
the right place for individuals who wish to relax and
recharge in between classes.

Dormitory Location
Conveniently located at a walking distance from the
school, the dormitory is designed exclusively for
CNN students to make their stay a truly comfortable
and pleasant experience. Even with the dormitory
in such close proximity to the school, we still provide
shuttle bus and vans for our students as part of our
value-added services.
In the vicinity less than a kilometer away are several
banks all with ATMs, a supermarket, fast food
restaurants, coffee shops, a hotel, hospitals, health
spas, 24/7 convenience stores, a 65 hectare wildlife
nature park, the city government center and its
impressive 23 hectare public park.
Amenities and Services
Each dormitory room is equipped with a
refrigerator, air conditioner, cable television, water
heater, DVD player, and electric fan. For services,
the dormitory provides 3 meals a day, 24/7 security,
wireless internet access, laundry, room cleaning,
regular change of beddings, and out-of-town trip
planning and assistance.

For junior students, we have a separate dormitory at
par with the comfortable facilities and convenient
amenities of the adults’. It even has its own study
halls and mini library for the evening classes.
Health and Medical Assistance Service
CNN has an existing health care and support
partner, The Blue Ground Incorporated - Japanese
Help Desk. Provider of health and medical treatment
assistance and affiliated with the country’s ultra-
modern hospitals, the Japanese Help Desk ensures
the physical well-being of Japanese nationals staying
in the country. The Desk’s medical staff conducts
free medical check-ups on students in our school
and arranges admission and medical treatment in
affiliated hospitals if necessary.

Activities
Presentations and Special Events
CNN promotes active participation of students in
individual and group presentations. Aside from
developing students’ confidence, these provide a
great opportunity for them to put their acquired
language skills to practice – from writing down their
own ideas into scripts based on a given theme to
actually delivering their presentations in front of
teachers and fellow students.
Special events foster cross-cultural appreciation and
friendships. They also serve as a fun venue for
students who like to share their creativity, humor,
talent, and personal insights and opinions on given
social and cultural issues.
Public Speaking
The ultimate challenge to students is the Public
Speaking event. As part of the final speaking test for
willing students, the Public Speaking event is a
formal activity where a student prepares a speech
and delivers it without the aid of multi-media tools
like slide shows or MS-PowerPoint©. The event is
attended by fellow students, teachers and, most
important of all, a panel of select instructors who
give their reactions, evaluations and practical advice
to the student-speakers at the end of their
speeches.

metropolis and out-of-town serve both as a time to
