2. Weeks Ideas Pros/Cons Outcomes
First week
……………………………. …………………………. Form the group of 6 members
Second week
Microwave Communication.
Security Alarm for shop.
-Enhancing communication but it is a
big project.
-Alarm system alert the police but
locks the shopkeeper with burglar in.
lack of innovation and big
drawbacks.
Third week Security in Car System
Smart Iron
-Security system is good but the
weight parameter is always varied.
-Enhance home safety while working.
Dropped car safety idea
because car project is very
massive.
Fourth Week Smart Iron
Smart Helmet
- There is a lot of smart iron around.
-provide more safety to cyclist when
cycling.
Eliminate the smart Iron
Fifth week Smart Helmet
-No big drawback encounter. Smart Helmet
Finally we choose the “Smart Helmet” and complete the 1st diamond.

o Alerts the cyclist via voice control, of drivers coming closer from behind and sideways.
o Alerts drivers coming closer from behind and sideways of the cyclist via flashing lights.
6. According to annual report of 2012 following is the list of cyclist accident reported to
police and majority of death is by head injury (3 quartet according to statement) such
as fatal skull fractures and brain damage.
Cyclist Casualties, 2012
Child Adult All
Killed 13 105 118
Seriously Injured 311 2,911 3,222
Slightly Injured 1,874 13,877 15,751
Total 2,198 16,893 19,091

7. Reason for choosing GIRO Bishop:
Very popular.
Large enough.
Very comfortable.
It has 22 vents for keep cool.
Adjustable fit.
Lightweight and Stylish.
Affordable.

8. Sensor and Different types of proximity sensor:
hardware device that detect the presence of object without physical contact.
suitable sensor and approve one
We will be using an ultrasonic piezoelectric sensor which is basically an acoustic proximity sensor.
Advantages:
Detect small object over long distance.
No physical contact needed.
Cycles operate unlimitedly. http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/9702/1b02ee115b6590448653dc8.jpg
The detected target can be from different form such as solid, granule, liquid.
Inductive sensor Capacitive sensor
Magnetic sensor Photoelectric sensor
9. - Device which transmit high frequencies
ultrasound wave to a target and which measure the
time for the echo to return to the sensor and
computes the distance to the target using the speed
of sound in the medium.

-Based on the speed of sound 341m/s in the air the
ultrasonic sensor calculate the distance to an object
using the time between when a wave its emitted
and received multiplied by the speed of sound
divided by 2. because the wave travel to the object
and come back to the sensor.
L= T x (speed of sound) / 2
L( distance)
T(reflection time)
Speed of sound( 341m/s)
10. Adruino Uno
The Arduino is a circuit board comprised of a microcontroller, which is able to receive sensor inputs
and control many electrical outputs such as buzzers, motors and leds. The microcontroller is
programmed using programmable language and there are various types of circuit board, each suited to
specific applications.
Principle of working ultrasonic sensor with Arduino Uno circuit
When I/O trigger at 10us (high-level signal) Arduino Uno board sends eight 40 kHz and detect whether
there is a Pulse signal back, when the signal back through high level, time of high output IO duration
is the time from sending ultrasonic to returning.

14. Worrying about the safety of cyclists on the road, we designed the “Smart Helmet” in order
to reduce accident related to cyclists by using a distance sensing technology to increase the
awareness of the cyclist and drivers next to him. The smart helmet will therefore be more
intelligent than the common types of cyclist helmet on the market as those mainly protect
from head injuries.
