● Born on August 29, 1958 in Gary Indiana
● Michael Jackson was the youngest of the 5 jackson boys.
● Brothers: Tito, Jermaine, Jackie, and Marlon.
● Father- Joseph Jackson was a big influence on The
Jackson 5. Michael joined when he was five becoming
the lead vocalist.
3. Jackson 5
● The group opened for Gladys Knight, Pips, James Brown, and Sam
and Dave.
● Gladys Knight was credited for introducing the group to Berry
Gordy.
● Berry Gordy- Motown founder, signed the group to his label in
1968.
● Throughout the years his Joesph Jackson and Gordy argued about
songs, production, and the children's well being.
● Jermaine left the group to start his solo career and younger brother
Randy joined changing the group name to the Jacksons
4. Solo
● Michael Jackson started his solo career at the age of 13.
He was still working with Jackson 5 at the time as well.
● 1972- his first No. 1 hit single “Ben”
● He then produced more solo hits as well as hits with his
brothers as well.
5. Genre/ Style
● Critics described his sound as R&B, Pop, and Soul
● Jacksons music style was different from others at his time. He
wouldn’t write down his lyrics. He sang them from memory. He
would make instrumental sounds with his mouth instead of using
the actual instruments. He believed that this was easier.
● Songs like Thriller, where classified as pop dance songs.
● Some of his songs also showed a darker, paranoid side of him such
as Billie Jean.
● Jackson also introduced a new style of dancing with his music

10. The Death of Michael Jackson
Jackson died of Propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication.
He was found at home with a faint pulse and then later
pronounced dead in a hospital. His music has lived on.
With the technology of holograms, fans were able to
experience his performance without him actually being
there.
11. My Opinion
Michael Jackson introduced a new style of music to the world. He took
risks and made masterpieces that will live on forever. Not only did he change
the music world, he also changed the performance world. He also influenced
many people in their music careers as well. Although Jackson had some ugly
moments, he contributed a lot to pop culture. I do enjoy Michael Jacksons’
music, but I wouldn’t call myself a mega fan.
