2. DEFINITION
Scientific Temper is the state of mind which does not
accept or believe anything but the truth and think
logically and rationally.
3. FEATURES OF SCIENTIFIC TEMPER
• Development of science knowledge is a continuous
process.
• Scientific Temper is the application of scientific method
in day to day life which includes questioning,
observing, analysing etc.
• Scientific Attitude is the reflection of Scientific Temper.
4. • The term Scientific Temper was coined by India’s first
Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru in ‘The Discovery of
India’.
• He believed that Scientific Temper would play crucial
role in nation’s socio-economic develop.
• Scientific Temper is mentioned in our Constitution’s
Article 51 A.
5. • August 20, 2018 – the 5th death anniversary of
rationalist Narendra Dubbulkar will be marked as
National Scientific Temper Day.
• In case of Mathematics, Euclid collected theorems
existed then and proved one theorem on the basis of
previous one.
• People believed that Astrology is the main branch of
science.
6. • People believed in superstitions. Superstitions are 3
types such as Religious, Cultural and Social.
• Scientists formulates a theory which be repeatedly test
to confirm that it is correct.
• Scientific Temper is frame of mind which has a thirst
for knowledge, knowledge can be acquired by
observation, experiments etc.
