This shows that my readers will be mainly aimed at 11-19, with a slight
emphasis on the 11-15 age range. The 20-24 age group is a minority
and will reflect less on the results, so while I will take into consideration
their age group briefly, they will not be a major target age for my
magazine.
These results show that the responses to my questionnaire will be
heavily focused on the female interest. Together with the age
groups I can conclude that my magazine will be focused on the
interested of girls aged 11-19.
Most people who took my survey buy magazines 1-5 times a month – I
don’t think this question is very effective, and I didn’t think about it a lot
which I should have done. The values are actually kind of ridiculous, and
it would have been better if I’d done single units, like 1 times a month, 2
times a month, 3 times a month etc. I feel like this won’t be very useful as
the range between 1 and 5 is quite large.
Kerrang! is the most popular magazine with the people who took my
survey, which is a magazine I have analysed. It is an alternative/rock-
based magazine which tells me that this is the music my readers are most
likely to be into. I can use the information from my survey to decide on
which content to use in my magazine. Alternative Press magazine is
another magazine specified very frequently in the ‘other’ category, so if I
could get a copy of that then maybe that would be quite useful, too. I don’t
know much about it but I know it often includes bands like Paramore, All
Time Low and Hey Monday.
The results rank the genres of music in the following order – Punk,
Rock, Pop, RnB, Hip Hop. Pop punk and alternative frequently come up
in the ‘other’ replies, so I will more than likely include these in my
magazine. This reinforces the fact that my magazine will be an
alternative/rock magazine.
This shows that posters are the most popular element with my
demographic. I will include this in my magazine. A free CD may be good
for every few months, but overall it is not that important to my readers.
The majority, around two thirds, of my readers appreciate a simplistic
layout, whilst the other third prefer a busy one. I will use a simplistic
general theme, but will possibly include a few pages with a busy kind of
layout.
Overall, an equal split between pictures and text is preferred, though a
large portion prefer pictures. I will probably split the magazine between
pictures and text equally but with a slight emphasis on pictures.
In terms of advertising, this shows that Converse, Vans and Glamour Kills
are of main interest for my readers. Features on these brands and
possible advertising would be appreciated by the readers. It also gives
another insight into which bands I should include in my magazine
because these brands often sponsor bands to wear their clothing/shoes.
Although gig reviews and lists may be a potential feature for my
magazine, it will not be an important part. With the majority of people
attending 5 or less gigs a month, I feel that this shows that gig reviews
and lists are not a majorly important factor for my readers but still would
be a good thing to include.
