What is salvation
1. Where are you?
Are you at that point where you just know that the things of the world aren’t
enough. That you can’t be good enough not to get worn out, you can’t be
kind enough not to get attacked and hurt, can’t make enough money and
can’t save the world. It’s the place where you get tired depressed ,sad ,broke
, sick and you have tried everything but you just know all you have known is
not enough. There’s more He’s not a religion. He’s the God who loves you
and convicts you so you may turn and receive salvation.
2. It’s not about self effort it’s at the end of that. It’s a seeking for the more that
somewhere deep inside you long for. It’s that depth in you that just knows
there has to be more. It’s the yes this world is ugly. According to God it’s a
fallen place. So why are we here? What is turning from it? Let’s start with
why we’re here. I never understood it. I thought my worldly life was the
answer. It wasn’t and blessed be God there is more.
3. Why are we here?
Adam and Eve represent us. God wanted to give them everything , bless them
and favor them and spoil them. Well what did they do? They didn’t appreciate it.
They didn’t understand how good it was, until they lost it. He gave them the
good first.
4. They walked away from God
From the relationship with him, to rule their own lives. Where we are now
is that fallen world. It seems good. We like things of it. We feel like it is the
reason to be but we learn by being here it’s all empty without God . That’s
when we feel in trouble and start turning to that which whispers in us there
is more. Turn to it it’s the truth. It is the way and the way to turn around
the time here towards your real purpose. That is a relationship with God
through Jesus Christ. Jesus took our sin so we can be restored to the
relationship God planned.
5. The bible says we have all turned from him.
Romans 21: For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave
thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were
darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged
the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being
and birds and animals and reptiles.24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful
desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one
another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served
created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
6. So why Jesus
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son that
whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
God loves you so much that despite the punishment we deserve he sent his son to
take our beatings, our persecution. He became our payment by suffering, as we
should have suffered. He is the only way to our perfect father , who cannot look on us
in our sin. When we believe Jesus and are Baptized with him, we are restored through
him, and him only, to that relationship. If you are not a sinner lost and having fallen
short of God then this is not for you.
7. You need Jesus
You have a past that you can’t go back to correct but his love heals that past. He can
go back and wipe that slate clean and make you new.
How are you going to get a new start on your future without Jesus. Jeremiah 29:11
says I know the plans I have for you ….. Plans for good and not for evil, to give you a
future and a hope . In those days when you pray I will listen.
8. So what is turning from that world ?
It’s in faith turning and calling Jesus and receiving him as your lord and
savior.
Hear Jesus
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy
burdens, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
9. We all make Mistakes
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23
10. Everyone Can Call Jesus
And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
Acts 2:21
11. It’s time to call Jesus
“The time promised by God has come at last!’ “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of
your sins and believe the Good News!” Mark 1:15
12. Confess Him in faith
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is believing in
your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your
mouth you are saved. “ Romans 10:9-10
13. Born Again
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they
are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they
cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless
they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives
birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born
again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell
where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
John 3:3-8
14. BORN AGAIN IS PART OF SALVATION
So Salvation brings you to be born again. I see it like this Adam and Eve were
given perfection and they still wanted their own way. So God reversed his plan
for redemption rather than us just taking his good and obeying we needed to
see what self without him is like. Hence the fallen world = self without God.
That’s where we are when we turn and call Jesus. Just like Jesus said you’d
never know some of us are headed that way when he spoke about the new
spirit that will live inside us. Being Born Again makes us new but new babies.
As we grow we learn and just like the spirit you may not see what we will look
like but keep looking it get’s better.
15. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. “
Phillipians 4:6“
Continue in prayer and watch in the same thanksgiving;”
Col 4:2
“The Lord is near to all them that call on him”
Psalm 145:18
16. Read your Bible
Many do not think they will understand it but after you turn to follow Jesus ask him for
help he will help you understand it .
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.’ Psalm 119:105
In the word you will find the instructions for this new life. Your life will change, for the
good. Fear not he is with you.
17. The Holy Spirit
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt
from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1st Peter 3:21
18. Salvation
So that is salvation. Being born again, it’s not of our own power, but in the power of
the conviction God sends us to turn to Him. It’s not a religious thing. It’s just a turning
from your own ways. to see it wasn’t what you were meant for. Want to say the
Salvation Prayer. Well there is no perfect one. None biblically anyway, however the
next page will lead you in a heartfelt confession to turn from sin and what’s happening
in your life. to God’s way , through Jesus, who is your only way to God. He shed his
blood for the forgiveness of your sins as your Lord and Savior.
19. Salvation Prayer
Lord Jesus I repent of my sins. I confess that I have sinned against you and the fathers
plan. I ask your forgiveness and ask you to teach me a new way to turn from my ways
and learn yours. I receive the sacrifice you made for me that I be made new. Thank
you Lord Jesus that I am saved. I make you the Lord and Savior of my life.
20. Salvation Scripture
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:8
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all
things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
Romans 6;23
21. Celebrate
In Samuel 13:3 the shofar was blown (a ancient horn) by the Jewish people to
celebrate victory. If you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior heaven is
celebrating. Blow this shofar that you too may celebrate.
